You can get a rebuild kit from Rick at Buckeye Performance about as cheap as eBay plus you get a VentureRider discount as well as being able to call him with questions. Rick is very knowledgeable on our bikes. If you do rebuild it go ahead and order the oil seal for the push rod! No point having to go back in a few thousand miles later (like I had to do)!

Broken first gen, accident pics

You're bike is in worse shape than mine was, but Fly-N-Lo is right, I gained too much experience with the bent fairing inner frame! If you're interested, click here for the post on my crash. Click here for the link to my other post talking about the fix. I tried to straighten that frame but it was a little too much. There were too many attachment points to be able to get it right. you may have better luck than me, but I ended up replacing mine. (I still have the old frame if you want it! ) I found a member here that had one from a loaner bike that he sold me. -
Did you continue to rebleed it every few weeks, George? How long did it take to get it right? And about how much fluid did you bleed each time?

Guess I better get some chains for the bike! I think that, as a race, we are extremely conceited to think that we , little ants to mother nature, have so much impact on the earth! The pollution levels have gone down every year for the last 30+- years! Oh yeah, we're the only life forms in the universe too.

I'm afraid that if I put mine on the crash bar or by the kickstand I would drag it off in a turn!

I got the new master cylinder kit from Buckeye Performance in the mail today, I pulled the master off and took it apart (I'm getting really good at that now!) and put the new guts in it. I put it back on the bike and put fresh fluid in it from the bottom bleeder until it filled the reservoir. A lot of air came out the little hole in the master. I held my breath and pulled the lever back and guess what?!? NO PRESSURE! Geez louise! I bled it at the banjo bolt, but got no air there. I started bleeding it the old fashioned way and noticed that it did push out more fluid than before. I went through 4 or 5 reservoirs full and still nothing. I went off and did some other stuff and fumed a while. I thought about leaving it until tomorrow. Decided to try bleeding a little longer. It felt like it was getting a little firmer; or was my wrist getting a little weaker? Then two big air bubbles popped out! Kept going and got more and more air! Finally got it real firm but the lever still is not out as far as it should be. I can put it in gear, on the center stand, hold the clutch in and I can't spin the rear wheel with my foot. I put it back on the ground put it in gear, held the clutch in and started it. It jumped just a little but was easy to hold. It feels about the same as when I rebuilt the slave and had to bleed it. I figure I'll ride it for a few days and bleed it some more. But heck, I've already been through 1/2 jug (the BIG jug) of Valvoline synthetic fluid!!! I'm still not sure exactly what was wrong, maybe it was air all along, maybe it still has air in it, but at least it's ridable again! Thanks to all for the advice, emails and things to look for.

When I try to open the exec, it brings up PowerDesk but before it brings up an icon it tells me "PowerDesk has encountered a problem and needs to close".

It turns out that I do have Excel. I went to POI Factory and when I opened this file on mc roads it asked if I wanted to open with excel. I saved the file but now I have to figure out what to do with it?! Looks like some good roads all over the country.

Nice shot Al! It didn't seem that orange here, I guess due to the thin clouds that were scuttling across the sky.

Thanks Bill. I'm not sure if I have excel, but I do have open office, I've just never used it for more than a word processor.

I'm not real computer literate, so I have a couple of questions. How much memory will these programs take up in my laptop? Will they work for a Pioneer GPS? (I think it is an AVIC 2)

I don't know if that is such a good idea, Nathan. I don't think they do BBQ'd ribs in Canada! Heck, I learned from having Swifty here last year, they don't even know from biscuits-n-gravy!?!?!

My 86 has a front axle from a pre 86 so it has a hole for a cotter pin that I don't need to use, so I used a ring like for keys and fed it thru that hole and the handle of bell.

Man that sounds like a great trip! I've always wanted to ride Alaska. In fact it was my great-great-great-great grandfather that bought Alaska for the US. And his surname is my middle name. I figured I would own Seward Alaska for a day! I had to turn down a free ride to Alaska for myself and the bike a few years ago. I had to turn it down because it was offered 3 days in advance, money was tight, I would need a new tire in Alaska and I had to pay a $300 gas bill . That wiped me out. I hope to live it vicariously through you, Gary!

Hey, Sarge!!! This is a PG site!

The Moon started into hiding about 15 minutes ago and it's pretty cool! The lower left quarter is now missing. We have broken clouds here so it kind of comes and goes, disappearing a little more each time; it lends a bit of Lon Chaney feel to it! It's only supposed to last about 50 minutes and be a dark orange at it's peak.

Lots of prayers from Georgia, Lyle.

I helped a friend mount a trunk rack on his Ultra Glide. It mounts with 4 screws. I told him if we had to drill 4 holes I'd charge him 100 bucks, if we drilled 6 it would be $50 and If we had to drill 8 it was free!

Down and out!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the broken and dislocated body parts. I have been fairly lucky in my unscheduled get-offs. Only woke up once in the hospital. Nothing broken but with a concussion and dislocated shoulder. I do know how you feel about the bike. You know you will heal but the bike can't heal itself! As far as fixing up a first gen, you are with the best people you could be with. For moral as well as physical support! Hang in there Kurt, we're with ya. You're Down But Not Out!!! -
I have to agree on the tire wear. I've had an Avon on my Intruder that looked good every time I looked at it walking up behind the bike. Then suddnly it was in the cords like your's! I think the Venom is deceptive because the way the tread is cut, it looks good because you can't always see the groove that goes all the way across the tire , your mind tells you it's still good. The only safe way to check that tire is inspect it all the way around and check the tire wear indicators. As for not being able to spin the back tire on a 1st Gen.....
