I wasn't jumpin' on you, Joe! I just get tired of PC Names and hyphenated-names! I had a friend years ago that was pure Navajo, I asked him once if he preferred Native American, Indian or American Indian?! He said "We don't care what you call us, we know who we are. We are Deenah (sp)." Which, in Navajo, simply means The People.

If you are hesitant because that is a cheaper helmet, you need to look at this article from Motorcyclist Mag. They found that the cheaper helmets, and especially the Z1R, are safer than a lot of the big name brands. I also heard that this report cost them a bunch of advertising from companies like Shoei and Arai! I ride with a Z1R 3/4 helmet and really like it. I think it cost me $39 or $49.

Sorry Forrest, I didn't see a car tire on that Triumph. Maybe had one maybe not. I won't say any more...I probably shouldn't even post tonight...I'm not in a real good mood!

I don't remember anyone giving me any money! And I am a Native American. I was born in Denver Colorado. Granted I'm not an American Indian but I am a Native American, born and bred. I also fail to see how any American Indian Tribe would have any right to money from the Indian Motorcycle Co! No more so than a Martian deserves a kickback from the Mars Candy Company! OK, I'm gonna stop here before I get myself in trouble! Rant over!!!

I remember meeting you Chuck. It was too nice to cage it but that traffic really sucked! I tried to raise you on channel 29, but I guess you didn't have the cb on. When I was trying to call you the guy I was riding with said "Has that ever worked?" I had to say no! So far I haven't had any luck reaching anybody on a Venture unless it's on the way to a M&E. Thanks for the condolences. I hope you can make it Saturday.

That's an interesting video that fib_78 put up. Pretty cool mounting for the camera! And although it didn't look like the bike was leaned over too far, I was impressed with the scraping noises I was hearing. It must have been over at least to the pegs. Then I realized that I was hearing those scraping noises while the bike was straight up too!!! I think maybe that was the squelch on the CB! I would like to see (or hear) that bike leaned all the way over! I don't think I would trust rubber that hard, or tires with that profile, with the way I ride the twisties (or highway off ramps for that matter).

I'm thinking that the cardboard wouldn't hold up too well in the rain. I think that a piece of plastic from a coffee can lid or the likes would hold up better, and be a little stiffer in the wind. It might be a little more expensive though. Maybe cost 14 cents.

I wish I could help you Bob! I even did a search on eBay and only came up with an "83 XVZ1200 Venture Master Cylinder Front" and a "98-07 Grand Prix Impala Venture Master Cylinder" Don't reckon either of those will help you!

Barry, once you get your headlight fixed you might want to get in touch with WildHair39 (LA Pryor) to find out how he protects his headlight. He has a piece of Plexiglas that fits over his headlight. I've thought about doing something like this on mine. I just haven't taken the time to figure out the best way to form it and how to attach it to the headlight. (I've also kind of forgotten about it until I saw this post!)

Yeah! What he said!

I was thinking about starting a post about a silver 2nd gen that I saw yesterday. I was riding with a friend, south on I75 out of Marietta, Ga. at about 9:45am. There was heavy traffic and he was a couple of cars ahead of me in the left lane. Then he moved to the right a few lanes and I waved as I went by. Was that anyone here?

Sure can, Chip! Any chance you will make the Breakfast on Saturday? We could talk about it. A friend of mine is the welder on my stuff. He has the equipment and fixes what I screw up! Or you can give me a call and we can work something out. My # is in my bio. -
Greg Darling is a friend that I met a few years ago. He followed me into a restaurant and asked "Was that you that just rode up on a Venture?" I replied "That depends on why you want to know!" That was the beginning of a friendship. He had just bought a 92 and we sat and talked Ventures, I turned him on to this site and we began to ride together. Later he moved it to his house in Florida and bought an 83 to keep here in Roswell. On this site he went by GOYO, and although he didn't post, he did check in periodically. He has been battling cancer for some time and, after going through treatments last year, was in remission and doing well; getting both his strength and hair back. I called him a few weeks ago and he was in the hospital. He told me the cancer was back with a vengeance and he said he had a lot of family there, but would call me in a few days. I talked to him a little over a week ago and asked how he was doing. He said "Not too well, I am in hospice now and don't have very long. But I've had a good life and am happy with it." I told him that I expect him to ride over my shoulder and he agreed. I didn't get a chance to see Greg before he passed on Sunday (3-2-08). I am very sorry for that but after talking to his mother-in-law today, he was not really aware of much for the last week. Greg is survived by his wife Valerie and 2 young children. There is to be a memorial service on the Tuesday after Easter which is the 25th. I'm not sure where it will be held but it will be in the N Atlanta area and I intend to ride to it if at all possible. As the time draws near I will post the time and place for any that care to join me on the way to or at the service. Don, I will try to get you info and a picture for the Memorial Page. You will be missed, Greg. Ride with God.

That sounds just like everything else in this post to me! Squeeze, I'm using Windows XP (Pro, I think) on a Gateway Laptop that is about 4 years old. I mainly use Firefox, sometimes I use IE7.

Hey Cliff! I'd like a little more info on this technique! How did you balance the bike on the jack stands to keep it up there? I did the same with mine, Chip. I hadn't noticed it rattling (I keep the radio pretty loud!) but I took it off to find an oil leak and it rattled in my hands so I decided to go for it. It's stainless steal but it welds ok with regular wire. There were also some other cracks that had developed so we welded them up too. As you can see, I took it one step further, welded a flat plate on it and painted the whole thing high temp black, (to prevent rust). I then painted the plate with high temp paint in orange. Then, using stick on letters, I painted it with high temp black. Peeling off the letters revealed what you see. If I'm leaned way over in a hard turn, that is visible! Which way I'm leaned determines what you can read! Now I just need to get back up on the Dragon and get some photos! -
So how do you increase the virtual memory, Condor? I looked at the Wikipedia link below and didn't see how to increase, just what vitual memory is. :confused24:

Probably too simple, but.........Kill Switch?

I don't know much, Bob, but I know that a first gen won't run well with the airbox off, or the top of the airbox off, for that matter. It needs the restriction of the air for some reason. With the top of the box off you can cover it with your hand and it should smooth out. Good luck, buddy!

This is one of the better videos on the net (that I could find) on picking up a bike. But you need to watch the full set. Essentially, Steve, with the bike on it's side you make sure it is in gear, or if you can't get it in gear, tie the front brake lever in so the bike can't roll. If the bike is on it's right side, put the kickstand down (so it won't go over the other way!). Place your butt against the seat with your feet about shoulder width apart and a little in front of you. Grab the handlebar, pull it towards you and get a good grip on something with your other hand. Now, making sure your back is straight, just start taking small steps backwards. The reason for the small steps is to keep the weight of the bike on both legs. The bike will come up surprisingly easily. At one point, when the bike is almost up, it will become very light, be careful not to push it over the other side! The reason I know this is that I have seen 98 pound women pick up full dressers and I have practiced the technique. I have also used it successfully. Another thread you might want to look at is "The Official "I Dropped My Bike At Vogel" Thread". That will answer the question you might have about Nathan's "We've all done it:whistling: or will at some point. The question is have you made your donation yet?"!
