  1. Been here infrequently lately. Anymore progress on the rear rim mod?
  2. Payment sent for the 4 requested. Used gift which doesn't prompt for shipping address. Will need to PM you my address. Thank You for putting this together. Derrek
  3. Spring is approaching... I have the Hagon Shock. I like it. Its well made. There is a thread somewhere where I posted some pictures of it. When I bought mine with the heavy spring it was 469 Shipped from Hagon LLC in California. Not sure if they are still including the shipping. So far I use the setting out of the box for both solo and two up. That said, when I had the OEM air shock I didn't change the air pressure either. Always kept it at 45psi. When i was installing it, Looks like it would be easy enough to adjust the preload by simply removing the saddle bag. The preload adjuster uses a set screw so you don't have to fool with trying to tighten a locking ring. Loosen set screw, adjust preload, tighten set screw. Damping adjustment is on the bottom of the shock, so nothing to remove for that. With respect to the Goldwing shock, there is another thread on that as well somewhere. My research indicates that the difference in length between the gold wing shock and the venture shock, mount eye to mount eye is approximately 3 inches ( i.e the wing shock is 3 inches longer). It would take more engineering than its worth IMO to work out the three extra inches in length. RSTDdog
  4. I could use 4 for sure off hand. Do they work for Miatas too?? RSTDdog
  5. The online rates for UPS are different than the rates you pay at a UPS Pack N Ship franchise store if that's where you went since they make money on the shipping (and the packing as you learned). If they can sell you the 15" height and in the end UPS only bills them for the 14" height they make more. Dimensions and weights are estimates entered in the ship profile, but when you have an account (Like a UPS Store) you get billed on actual if its off significantly. My work has accounts with both UPS and Fedex. Fedex Ground is consistently cheaper than UPS ground, inclusive or exclusive of our discount. Fedex Ground shipping from Tennesse to Florida for a box of miata parts 23x23x7 and weighing 23lbs was 15.02. Freight cost will always be the higher of Actual weight or Dimensional weight. I have an airhawk sitting in the closet that you are welcome to try. PM me your address and I'll send it out. If you (or the wife) like it, make a reasonable donation to the St. Judes fund here at VR.org. If it doesn't work for you, I just ask you donate it to the St. Judes VR.org auction fund. RSTDdog
  6. Its a 2009, So its still under warranty for at least another year or so (2014) maybe more depending when it was first sold. 5 year warranty from the In service date. Yes the fuel pumps can work (fail)intermittently. If its the fuel pump you will definitely want that replaced under warranty.
  7. There is an album in my profile with mulitple shots of the venture and td seat side by side. You can also see my bike with the TD seat and the Venture Pillow top on it. The venture pillion is taller than the TD which adds to the rise behind the rider seat. I don't think one sits lower in the frame than the other necessarily since other than tabs and what not the rstd frame and venture frame are the same. I put up a thread with pics showing whats involved to go from Venture Seat to TD. I'll see if I can find it. (On edit: Looks like all I covered was the rear seat in a post in this thread. Album in profile has all the pics http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=60469&highlight=Venture+Seat )For the TD Its a bolt on affair with some mods that are reversible. For the TD rider seat on a Venture at a minimum you would have to find a way to either add studs to the TD seat or add weld nuts to the venture frame (not recommended) to use the TD mount. The easiest thing to go the other way would have rick butler install the TD seat foam and upholstery on your venture seat pans. check with him but he's done that before I think. He can do is majic to the foam while he's at it. Your passenger will not be as happy on the TD pillion either......Its not bad but its not a venture pillion by any stretch. My TD seats are in my closet. Don't want to sell them, but I'll ship them to you if you want something in your hands to experiment with, see if it works ,etc. Lots easier looking at the real thing than pictures. rstddog
  8. I have also gotten several paypal based scam emails. You can usually tell by looking at the email address format compared to legit paypal emails you receive confirming transactions. Spam filter catches most of them now. While I personally have not received a paypal email asking me to get verified, every time I log on to my account, I get the ad to "Get Verified, lift your spending limit" and have to click through it to get to my home page which also has links to Get verified. I got the 10000 spending limit when I first signed up way back in 1998. still have 5000 or so left to go. No intention of giving them my bank account information. The only benefit to linking your bank account that I can see is that it removes the transaction fee for sending money Gifts. Money Gifts are not free if all you have is a CC linked as the payment source and no cash balance in your account. paypal asks if you want to pay the fee or take fee out of what the recipient receives. If you are going to Get Verified, ONLY do it when logged in to your account. NEVER USE A CLINK THROUGH LINK IN AN EMAIL FOR ANYTHING. Unless paypal wants to offer lower transaction fees in exchange for my bank account information' I'll be done with it. I use it very little anymore. There is virtually nothing on ebay that you can't find cheaper elsewhere. Real auctions by individuals on used items are also becoming rare and I don't care to waste hours searching for a deal.
  9. Email him back and tell him SOLD! you'll be happy to give $500 for just the bike and he can keep the Voyager Kit. An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
  10. All kidding aside, I have to date always been able to find repair advice for various things simply using Google and never had to pay for it. If its a car problem ( or appliance problem, etc), you are not the first one, its happened to someone else, and they have posted or blogged about it in a forum somewhere. With Google you have to remember, the free answers are sometimes several pages in. People Pay money to be on the first couple pages. RSTDdog
  11. Bad news indeed. Best wishes to Carbon One for a full recovery. I'm with Skydoc, I can recall when I was I was 16. Consider myself Very Lucky I didn't hurt myself or someone else in the risk taking years. Later some one told me "its better to be lucky than good" probably some truth to that as well. Interesting about this is I assume then the mother didn't see the trike either? Two people in the car and no one saw him? Hmmmmm. Anyway glad to hear it wasn't worse. Derrek RSTDdog
  12. One plug in photo looks very rich. The other looks lean. How long has your bike been sitting?? Looks like right rear carb is flooding. Try draining all four float bowls. You'll need lots of rags for this to catch the fuel. Withthe drains out turn key on (DO NOT START) to cycle the fuel pump and flush float bowls and lightly tap on them as suggested. Look for signs of varnish and build up onthe ends of the drain screws. If that doesn't clear it up, my guess is the float is stuck open to the bottom of the carb from varnish. If bike has been sitting, you will need to clean and overhaul carbs to get it to run correctly. You will also need to change the oil and filter anfter carb overhaul since the oil is probably fouled with gas. RSTDdog
  13. I considered doing this a while back. From Works App Chart OAL Bolt center to bolt center on a Venture/RSTD is 10" The GL 1800 is 13" bolt center to center. Youcan make up some of the difference, maybe 3/4" re-drilling the bottom mount hole in the GW shock since it has a longer fork than the Yamaha. Still leaves an extra 2 1/4" of shock height to deal with. You would also have to modify the dog bone/leveling link geometry where the shock connects so you don't increase the ride height by 2+ inches. May be as simple as lengthening the level links but Its more engineering than I wanted to tackle. GW shock take offs were going for between 80-125.00 when I was considering it.At 200+ they are getting now due to popularity your half way to a Hagon unless you get lucky and find a deal I wouldn't gamble 200 on it. Not saying it can't be done, just don't think it would be easy to do. RSTDdog
  14. OEM Yamaha Part number for the 1986 Venture front wheel is 93306-30309-00 Based on that it should be a 6303 bearing. This also fits a ton of stuff and various applications. http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-93306-30309-00.html they are 15.00 each from boats .net. Not sure you can find a quality bearing a whole lot cheaper. I have on occassion found that a bearing shop will be more expensive for an NSK or NTN bearing than the NSK or NTN by the OEM part number. Remember bearings are not all created equal. RSTDdog
  15. I'd have to see one out in my hand. Based on the Yamaha part number 93306-00420-00 and description should just be a 6004 bearing for the 2nd gens and it fits a bunch of Yamaha bikes. Traditionally with yamaha the bearing number is imbedded in the part number when its a common bearing. boats.net indicates the part number is obosolete however?? http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-93306-00420-00.html First gen bearing is different than Royal star 2nd gen bearing We have a miller bearing store and they have always been able to match up bearings when I have been in there.
  16. Thats a good thought. The only problem I envision is the OE First gen Venture rim width is going to be a tad narrow for a 170 wide radial. A rim that's too narrow, pulls in the sidewalls and results in less contact patch. a radial generally runs on a wider recommended rim width than a bias ply tire of the same size. I think your right, it should bolt up. Miles, I probably posted this in another thread you had about rear rims and radials, but the Stratoliner 18" front wheel is a drop in replacement on the RSTD. No mods required. Comes with floating rotors, which would complete an R1 brake caliper upgrade ( I haven't done this yet). And it looks really good too. I have some pics in albums in my profile. Credit goes to remmbertb, who figured out that it works. I ran it for a while with the radial that came on it in combination with a bias rear. I recently bought matching Avon Venom X bias front and rear and have to say I like the way it felt with the radial tire up front better. Does the AVon Cobra 16" radial have a suitable load rating? Did I understand you that the wheel company provides the 16" rim blank? you can specify the width? Staying tuned RSTDdog
  17. Would you pay 19,000 for one? http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/news/triumph-trophy-se-price/ Looks like a nice bike. 10k mile valve adjustments on a touring bike though. Couldn't tell if its a shafty or not. I would prefer shaft. Off topic ( I can hijack my own thread I guess)Yamaha could easily do this to the FJR and likelycould sell it for 2k less.
  18. if you are not hung up on air adjustment, The Hagon Shock is probably the best value. You can still adjust the spring preload, just manually. 399 shipped or 469 shipped with the Uprated HD spring. 2year unlimited mileage warranty. Rebuildable for about 150.00. Thats what I bought. Got it from Hagon LLC in California. http://www.hagonshocksusa.com/ There are a couple of threads in the 2nd gen forum and I posted some pictures of one. I would n't buy a used RSV shock with more than 10,000 documented miles on it. My shock went at year 6 and 22k miles. I don't think the early royal star shocks will fit. RSTDdog
  19. Most aftermarket LED lights use a connection to the stock bulb base. In other words they have wires that attach to what looks like the bottom of a light bulb so you don't have to cut wires or eliminate the original socket. Try putting a regular tail light bulb in its place. If a stock bulb works in the socket, the problem is with the LED. RSTDdog
  20. SO what would you pay for a new venture with FI, ABS, Aluminum frame, Full fairing, bags trunk, radio, intercom, bluetooth, etc. This assumes most peoples desire for the Venture to remain a full on luxo tourer similar to HD, WING and BWW. While you can choose more than one option, try and keep your selections consistent. For instance if you are not going to buy till your current bike dies or you are waiting to buy used, don't select what you pay for a new one, since technically you wouldn't buy a new one. If you are providing info in a post like I would pay the samee as brand X model, provide what that bike costs so we don't all have to guess and look it up. Thanks RSTDdog
  21. Deleted. Tried adding a poll but it timed out. Starting a new thread.
  22. Not Picking on SilverT here, but this statement says alot about why you don't see a new venture. Similarly SilverT did not buy a new Wing he bought a 2003. I have read several of these "we want a new venture threads", but never have have I seen anyone say what they are willing to pay for all the updates they they want. If they added fuel injection, a GPS, suspension and styling changes this year and the price was $25,999, How many people here would be inline to buy one today? ( need a separate poll thread for this) In terms of Technological advancement, the Yamaha carbureted V4 still meets emissions requirements without a catalytic converter. Can't be that outdated. The HD with FI and all its Tech advancements, needs a catalystic converter and they need to shut down a cylinder at idle to keep it from overheating. That's change I don't need. Just my 2 cents.
  23. Technically its not a recall so notices did not get mailed out. Yamaha issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to dealers informing them that certain range of VINs on 2007 RSV and RSTD models did not have the head gaskets properly torqued. Any new bikes in dealer inventory are supposed to have the head gasket retorqued before delivery. Any bikes that come in for service in the affected VIN range are supposed to be checked. Head gaskets that blow in the affect range, Yamaha has been picking up the tab. Dealer should be able to tell you if your VIN is in the range. Google may turn up the TSB somewhere. RSTDdog
  24. How many miles on bike? Has the bike been sitting? When was the last time it ran well? Sounds like a fuel problem to me. If you are getting shocked, you likely have spark. Have you done a simple spark check? Put a good plug on each wire , be sure the plug has good ground and see if it sparks when you turn it over. If you have weak spark, check resistance on the plug caps as dacheedah suggested. If it sparks, your problem is fuel assuming that you have compression. Have you had the head gasket recall performed on your 07? RSTDdog
