I'm in Cape Coral, Just about another 25-30 Miles south of Mike from Port Charlotte, or about 200 from you give or take. Derrek
  2. You can't spell overreact with out the word ovary.... Has a photographic memory, just doesn't have any film.....
  3. Not sure if this has been posted before ( I now see they have). I got the link in an email about a year ago or so. I especially like the Ducati one.... Have a look, enjoy... If its been posted before, its worth revisiting imo. On edit: it looks like these were just posted on 10/28/2008. Not sure how I missed them. And according to the nifty similar threads tool that pops up, also in 2007 a couple times. Well here it is again if you missed it. http://www.headgear.org/~cloyce/moto-motivation/ RSTDdog
  4. EGR, MAP Sensor, etc all effect the emissions of the vehicle and should be covered under the emissions warranty. Although Basic warranty is 3yr 36,000, I believe the federal law for emissions related components is 5year 80,000. Research it before you go spending your own money on this. If the dealer says its not covered make them show you in writing in the warranty policy where its not. They have detailed handbooks and what parts are covered and for how long. They don't always use them. Look in your Owners manual or warranty book. There is along list of items covered under the emissions warranty. Generally if the component affects operation and can cause the vehicle to pollute, its covered. My mazda battery was covered under the 4yr 48k mile bumper to bumper. Dealer said no. I showed him the Owners manual section on warranty, he looks it up in his book, I got a new battery. Make them do the home work and fix the truck. On edit :Well after all that, its got a 5yr100k powertrain warranty. This article says starting in 2006 all Liberty CRD (engine)gets a 5yr/100,000 mile warranty. Check it out http://www.greencarcongress.com/2005/06/jeep_libtery_di.html FOund some other articles as well, the engine and powertrain have a 5yr 100k mile warranty. Get it fixed under warranty. Same for the guy with the bad turbo. Unfortunately, the Jeep CRD is an Italian made diesel with lots of emissions stuff bolted on to meet US regs. They found something that would fit, instead of altering the design to use a Mercedes built diesel, trying to keep the price down. RSTDdog
  5. I've got one coming, should be here this week. Had some money in my Paypal account burning a hole in my harddrive..... RSTDdog
  6. I am interested in knowing more about this?? I have the chirp, more so than the whine.Although in my opinion the chirp at lower rpm becomes a whine at increasing rpm till you hit the point it goes away. It has had the basket replaced once already (recently). I just sing the Jetsons song in my head....... Any idea what he is modifiying on the stock clutches? Can you find out? Alot of people here would be interested in that if he has a solution. Thanks RSTDdog
  7. You could try adding the Royal Star Venture Pillion,or adding the whole seat I think you need both pieces anyway. It fits thr RSTD with a bracket modification (L brackets). Its hard to tell from pictures if the Pilion for theVentur is larger than the RSTD. It looks taller anyway to me. It seems the Rick Butler can improve these as well. I plan to send him my RSTD seats. Our RSTD came with an Airhawk seat pad that the previous owner bought. It provides some improvement over the pillion alone, but for the price I 'm glad I didn't have to buy it. The wife says it helps, but she is stilling wanting to get off after only an hour or so. Of course we are just getting back into riding after a 10 year hiatus, so there is the getting your butt used to it thing as well. I would give the Butler seat mod a try. I'm doing that before spending more money on different seats. RSTDdog
  8. I'm no engineer, but roughly 30% less horsepower and 30% more weight might have something to do with it. I won't be dragging racing any FJRs for pink slips....
  9. I had an ST1100 ABS/TCS for 5years. Smooth like a sewing machine and you can grab a handfull of front brake in the rain and not have to clean your shorts afterward. Smoother than the FJR1300 I rode before settling on an RSTD. The V4 RS Yamaha engine is smooth, but not Honda smooth. I've forgotten to downshift the ST before and pulled 5th gear from below 2000 rpm. Keep in mind that carb sync is not a set it and forget it item. They will go out of sync over time, I don't remember the interval, but its either every 8K or 16K miles, so depending on when the Previous owner had it done (and by whom), it may be due. A good mixture adjustment using an EGA will help smooth thing s out on the bottom as well. You definitely have to find someone who knows what they are doing. Depending on mileage or just for GP going over all the engine mount bolts with a torque wrench is also a good idea. RSTDdog
  10. If you're leaning towards the RSV this deal looks tough to beat http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/mcy/844492036.html Be a nice Fly and drive back this time of year. What you have to ask yourself is what type of riding am i gong to do most of the time. The RSTD is lighter, so would be easier for daily driver duties, commuting, etc. If Touring is your thing, from what I have seen you aren't adding a trunk bag to a RSTD for muck less than $500 and that's if your lucky finding everything cheap, It will most likely be closer to $1000 when its all said and done. It would easier/cheaper to dress down the RSV (Fab up a quick release trunkc etc) than dress up an RSTD. For me personally, less is more. I like the RSTD, less stuff to fix worry about. If I want to tour long distance, I'll get a back pack set up. If you end up with an RSV, I'll swap seats with you as long as its not studded. RSTDdog
  11. If you make an attempt to drill and extract the pilot screw, try and get some left hand drill bits and preferably take the carb off the bike. With the carb off the bike, you can safely apply some heat to the area where the screw is. This will cause the area around the screw to expand a little improving your chances of getting it out. The left hand drill bit is handy because its already turning the correct direction while drilling (out) and some times the bit will grab while drilling pulling the screw out with it. Good luck. This is rather delicate surgery..... ddog
  12. That's really what I'm after, is how well is it made. It looks good in the pictures. I'm typically not one to go the cheap route and am aware of the you get what you pay for. The ebay link for that particular seller also has a link to a review of it from an online mag and the writer seemed to like it. It would seem to me if they can crank out thin ones and sell them for 110, you should be able to produce one with twice the material thickness and sell it for 220?? The Harley Tour Pak does look nice, seems like your out around $500.00 minimum used to go this route without painting. Are they ABS or Fiberglass?? What about GIVI? DO they make a cruiser style trunk? I know they are popular with the FJR and ST11/13 Crowd. ddog
  13. First Post here. Will be picking up my RSTD (used '06 with 10,000 miles) tomorrow or Friday. Has anyone seen or used this trunk. Looks like a no brainer from a cost standpoint compared to other choices. Not my website, item, no affiliation. Looking for feedback. I suppose I could be first...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HD-HARLEY-Tour-Pak-Pack-Trunk-ELECTRA-GLIDE-ROAD-KING_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ84146QQihZ020QQitemZ300257026043QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Thanks, ddog
