  1. Not 100% on this but I think YICS was only on the inline 4 cylinder yamaha's. And in order to sync those carbs you needed a YICS block off tool. The YICS on the inline 4's was a long port machined through the head effectively tying all four intake manifolds together. If the Venture has a version of this YICS, you will need to block it off to properly sync the carbs. I heard his bike at the M&E and the rpms would hang for a while when revving before dropping back off (indication of leaning out). He also indicated that turning the mixture screws didn't seem to affect anything. Scud- Try the heat test (you are looking for a cold exhaust pipe when the bike is running or one that is not as hot as the other's. This will indicate the problem cylinder. More than likely you will be "Venturing" back into the carburetors. RSTDdog
  2. Thanks. Just wondering. They look similar to the Platinum Burners from Wally World. RSTDdog
  3. Speaking of Mercury sticks, mine are about 20 years old and I think some of the Mercury has evaporated over the years. They still work but I am getting air pockets in the columns during use. I don't think affects the accuracy, since you can hear the out of sync typically. Anyone know if you can you still get Mercury?? Sorry to HiJack RSTDdog
  4. Which Bullet/driving lites are you using? Thanks, RSTDdog
  5. If you don't do it already, drag the rear brake in slow turns. Allows you to keep the engine loaded against the throttle and clutch and regulate the maneuver speed. This also works well for staying upright at real slow speed without putting your feet down. We have a bridge I cross in the morning going to work. It can be bumper to bumper. I practice timing, balance and brake dragging by trying to cross without putting my feet down. Its about 2 miles across the bridge. My comment on Safety gear is this: If I were the only one on the road, I probably wouldn't wear it, but since I'm not......... Also donot recommend crossing the Everglades (41 or the Alley) without a Full face helmet, large windshield or preferably Both. RSTDdog Riding with a helmet so long that I'm uncomfortable riding with out one.
  6. Link to my albums at VR with Photos from this years event. Thought I had taken more but evidently not. Some good pictures, you should get the idea. Cool bike with special sidecar built by the Tampa chapter for one of their own. Good turn out, over 300 people. Always the first Saturday after Easter. Mark your calendar for next year. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?u=5823 rstddog
  7. Photos from the Sixth Annual Fun Day in Fort Myers April 10, 2010 to benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Always the first Saturday after Easter.
  8. There is a 2005 Midnight Venture on the Fort Myers Craigslist with 2500 miles for $9000 obo. Thats a pretty good deal if you are still looking. If I remember correct though, I think you prefer a different color than the black. I can tell you from experience the midnights are PIA to keep clean (but look really nice when they are). rstddog
  9. The original installed clutch baskets for the Royal Stars 99 and UP, Vmax and Venture 1983 and up are all the same. There was a part number supsercede around 2000 but not significant, the original part beginning in 83 is 26H-16150-00-00 Primary DrivenGear Comp (clutch basket) the number changes to and is currently 26H-16150-01-00. I'm not sure what the benefit would be other than minor tolerance differences. A used one might be worn alittle differently and may be quieter or louder. My warranty paperwork says the basket they installed for the whine fix is 4XY-16150-09-00 (I still have audible whine and Jetsons Chirp) The early Royal stars 96-97 have different model code inthe part number 4NK-16150-00-00 and not sure what is different about these or if they will interchange. I had a great post with all the part numbers for the various years and models and a great explanation on how the Yamaha part numbers work, but forum timed out before hitting the submit button and all was lost. Whatever the time limit is that makes you log back in when you hit submit isn't long enough for detailed posts, particularly when looking up cutting and pasting info from another website (inthis case yamaha parts look up). It said hit the back button to reload page but the page was gone. No time to re do it. I know this occurs on most sites and typically I crtl C to copy just in case but didn't this time. Anyhow you can look up the various years and see the part numbers at yamaha-motor.com (also at starmotorcycles.com) RSTDdog
  10. Good time, Good cause, only 4days left. a Meet and Eat with a goal if you will!!! Info in the prior posts. If you are anywhere close its worth the ride. Thanks! Derrek
  11. Thanks for all the responses. I had a Corbin seat on my ST1100 and really liked it, but I was also 10-15 years younger then too. I have located a used Corbin?comfort cruise seat driver and pillion for $275. looks to be in good shape from the pictures. In the ad it says its a Corbin "gel" seat. Looks like the one on the Yamaha Star website but they don't say anything about gel in the description there. If I buy it and like it but the wife hates it, well enough said there, I m back to square one. I know every one is different where seats are concerned so trying to get an idea. I have looked at the Russell day long. Looks nice and I like the idea of it being custom but a little pricey. Of course if I buy the Corbin and don't like it, then its money to put toward a more expensive option. If people in general don't like them(the corbin for the TD) that makes it harder to re-sell too if it doesn't work for me. Thanks again for the feedback RSTDdog
  12. Either the Yamaha iteration or directly from Corbin (Corbin makes Yamaha's accessory seat). Who has one on their TD, Do you like it, and is it an improvement over the stock seat for the driver and the passenger (important)? Thank You rstddog
