  1. If you are interested, I would not be afraid to low ball him. If he has been in business for a while, he was likley savvy enough to call a few MC dealers or has a relationship with one and got the price a dealer would buy it outright for. That number would be the highest number he would allow on trade. I would be surprised if he has more than 4K ACV in it. He's just taking a shot at retailling it. Nice Color combo. Don't see many of those.
  2. He bought a bike from a dealer on one day, paid the dealer to service it, and crashes it the next day. Not blaming the dealer BUT If the dealer put in 36PSI F and 40 R and it lost enough pressure to cause him to lose control, then either he had the misfortune of picking up a nail after leaving the dealership (which should still be there now) or it had a nail or other slow leak that the dealer did not pick up on when they "serviced" it. My bike will absolutely not drop from 36 PSI to 15 in two months and really no tire should unless there is problem (nail, bead leak, valves stem issue, small nail, etc). For reference My Stock rim and Dunlop E3 that I removed two years ago when swapping to the Stratoliner rim still has 15psi. Should you have to check the tire pressure on your bike when picking it up after purchase from a dealer, no you really shouldn't. What is sad however is that you probably need to given that quality and competency in dealers can vary greatly. Out of curiosity what was the rear tire pressure?
  3. Got Pics?? saw one from the rider view in gallery. Any from the front ? Thanks
  4. My 2006 drain plug is just a 17mm flange bolt with no phillips head so that's why I was concerned it may be the wrong one. I seem to remember there were some m/c engines, don't remember which ones and maybe not Yamaha, it seems threre was a bolt with Phillips screw very near the oil drain bolt. Customers removed by mistake and it was a retainer for the shift fork and you hear a little plink noise and you get to split the cases. Anyway pays to be careful and double check.
  5. Apparently not http://venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=787699&postcount=30
  6. Here's a direct click link. The right click and paste didn't work for me. http://pages.lightthenight.org/sc/Columb1213/bpowellmqq Seems FB didn't help...... RSTDdog
  7. Its not the one with the Phillips head center. At least its not on my 2005. DO NOT REMOVE THAT ONE. Here is the 98 RSTD Owners manual link on Yamaha's website They don't go back to 97 should be the same though. Shows where it is Section 6 page 10 (6-10) http://www.starmotorcycles.com/assets/service/manuals/1998/LIT-11626-11-18_140.pdf On the bottom of the engine, middleish. Not a great picture from the parts fiche Should be Number 14 shown here and in attached image . You can scroll and zoom using the link. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/partviewer/default.aspx?ls=star#/Yamaha/XVZ13LTJ_-_1997/OIL_CLEANER/XVZ13LTJ_(1997_MOTORCYCLE)/OIL_CLEANER_(XVZ13LTJ_-_1997) RSTDdog
  8. No cruise control?? Really?? Buying a Wing and taking the trunk off seems like a bettter idea if its the look you are after.
  9. It looks like the copper metallic to me in pics, not red. The copper one is the one I like. I'd have to have the manual. Good choice, Nice car. I drive a 97 Miata, last year of the NA model with the pop up headlights. I have had it for over 5 years now, best car I have ever owned, most fun you can have in a car with your clothes on. Best website for miata info is www.miata.net wealth of information. You have a third generation NC model if your wondering which forums to peruse. Enjoy It!
  10. Wagner Grill was the first accessory I bought. Well designed and thought out. Never got to meet him but had several exchanges through the grill purchase as well as some common threads here. Even from my limited communications, easy to tell he was a good soul. Very sad to hear of his passing and wish I had the opportunity to meet him. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Derrek
  11. What don't you like about it? Heavy Duty I weigh 195. Combine weight is also 350ish.
  12. You should be fine with the heavy duty. I weigh 195 and ride an RSTD and I have the HD shock. Its a little firmer solo but I used to ride solo with 45 psi inthe OEM shock. I installed it righ tof the box did not touch the preload. What is the turnaround time for these now? There used to be quite a wait IIRC.
  13. Just gave you a Facebook recommendation through my wife's page. Let's see what that does....
  14. That's only 120 people at $10.00 each or 240 people at $5.00 each. or 400 at $3.00 each. Could happen, you never know.
  15. For those that have done it or are suggesting just swapping out the gears, Don't you have to set the lash or do you just swap over the gear set with requisite shims and call it good?
  16. There are two Hagon Distributors in the US. Hagon LLC in California which is where I ( and Phillip Sisk above) got mine. 399.00 shipped with regular spring, 469 shipped with up rated heavy duty spring. They typically have them in stock ready to ship and if you want Hagon, that's the place to go. The other is Dave Quinn Cycles who does not stock them and is more money. I have not ridden a Works equipped bike to compare so I can't provide a comparison. I could not in my mind see how the works shock was worth over $300 more than the Hagon. Warranty on the Hagon is better at 2 years unlimited mileage, both are rebuild-able, visually construction quality appears equal to me. I like the set screw and single ring spring pre-load adjuster on the Hagon, vs having a locking ring (two rings)that requires two spanner wrenches to tighten. That siad I have not had to adjust the preload on mine.
  17. Would gladly make a donation to St.Judes fund if someone could run a Carfax for me. This is the VIN 1FMNE31S4YHA18194 Thanks, Derrek
  18. You can use any year V-max rear end but you will have to drill the large hole for the speedo sensor and drill/tap the small hole for the retaining bolt.
  19. You should be able to find ethanol free gas at a marina. Also puregas.org (or pure-gas.org) is a site where you can locate stations with ethanol free fuel. We have a marathon station that sells it, labeled recreational 90 or Rec 90. Its 90 octane, ethanol free and I have run it in the bike a few times and it sure seems to run better on that with some improvement in fuel economy but not enough to offset the price difference. Anyway for long term storage that would be the way to go along with some brand of fuel stabilizer. Get bike as empty as you can of any ethanol fuel then fill her up. I have never had issues with Stabil, but I always use the blue marine stabil. Startron is also good. They are the only two I know of formulated to prevent ethanol fuel from separating, so I would use one of those two if your only choice is to store it with ethanol gas. Either of those would work with Non ethanol gas too. Both those products have corrosion inhibitors too.
  20. I haven't done this mod but researched it quite a bit. Seems Pegscraper came to the same conclusion as you did at first, what's the big deal, and after switching to the 14mm Road Star Master Cylinder said it was like night and day. Some older Road Star Master Cylinders are 5/8 bore same as ours so shop carefully.Seems you do have to match up the components for best performance. Of course then you'd have to polish up another M/C or look for the odd Road Star S Master cylinder, which unlike the venture S, is a fully chromed M/C.
  21. I think the calipers that Skydoc uses are the newer style R1 caliper without the small metal brake line connecting the two halves of the caliper. Not sure if there is a performance difference. It seems they get more money for the newer style without the metal line on the caliper body than the older style with it.
  22. Very Glad to hear you are both OK. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
  23. Depends on when since we are planning a trip to New England Next year also. Would like to make it if possible. I Love that part of North Carolina. A place we used to camp every year when I was a kid was Little River Camping Resort, Near Brevard about 35 miles south of Asheville. Its now known as Cascade Lake Recreation Area and Campground. http://www.cascadelakerecreationarea.com/index.html Beautiful area and more rural than a KOA. I personally prefer not to camp next to a highway or in ear shot of one, but thats just me. I do offer it as suggestion for a location however. Had a chance to go through there traveling for work and the owner of that property turned it over to Cradle of Foresty to run it. When I was there in 2010 he was reportedly in his 90's and still alive. It closed for several years prior to C of F taking it over for him. Guy gave me tour and it was much like I remembered it. 10 foot wood diving platform is gone now (Age, lawyers, both) but still sits quietly in a relatively unspoiled area. Guys at the campground said his kids have no interest in running it and as long as the old man is alive he won't sell to developers. Be sad to see it go that route. If you are nearby go check it out. If you win the lottery, put in on your list of places to buy and preserve.
  24. How about the Lucky Charms Leprechaun "Magically Delicious" ? I tried to sell my wife on that one..........
