  3. aybay we coould get up for dinner or something . The wife and Iare only about 1-1 1/2 hrs away from durham. Let us know my number is in my profile. Good luck with the job search. David
  4. prayers sent to you 2. HOpe he heals well and this doesnt over load you too terribly much . Earl is a lucky man to have such a thoughtfull wife as to post this up. While your taking care of him dont forget to take care of yourself. He will be in even more pain emotionally if something happens to you while talking care of him. Godspeed and heal well my friend David
  5. HEy Bummer, I respect what you said as your opinion. We all have them and we all think we are wright. thats whats great about this couontry. We all have that wright. I have no mechanical expirience so I cant answer if your advice is mechanically sopund or not. Ill let other debate that. And as already stated as Im no great mech I have no mechanical theries to back up what I say other than at 80-85 mph my tach is readind somehwere between 4500-5000 rpms. I understand the bike is good with that. I also understand its a 91 Vr . In 1991 the speed limits were 55 and the bikes were geared for that speed or just a little better. So with that I still stand by my thoughts that if it was financially sound to have a 6th gear designed and installed I would for the times when I run with the big dogs ( SECOND GENS). I understand what you are saying all I ask is either to understand what Im saying or at least respect it as my opinion. I cant respond to the power curve , handleing or anything else about a second gen as I ve never ridden one. respectfully david
  6. not sure if it will help but on the venture history page( top dark blue highlighted line near ) click on that link and look all the way to the bottom of that page and there is a color scheme breakdown by year. Might help. David
  7. Just a quick question. How tall of a sixth gear are we talking about? Now just going by your own words either it has to really tall or something is wrong with my 1st gen. At 80 mph my tach is showing 4500 rpm. At 70 mph its running 3500-4000 rpm range . Now with a sixth gear it seems to me that my 1st gen would still be in the 3000 - 3500 rpm range therefore keeping it in the tork curve youve been talking about. Again your own words said this engine loves to be in the 3000-7000 rpm range. David
  8. Speaking of complacent, Lets not forget to stay alert when we are in our cages too. Just the other day i personally pulled out in front of a guy doubleing his wife(at least I asume wife) I didnt see them and went to the center lane as is my custom in this particular sectiion and he wizzed wright by me. Didn't scare him but it disturbed me quite a bit as I should have known better. We all get mad when a cager says I didnt see them, but i litterally didnt see them. Not making excuses as it was my resposability and I was lackng. David
  9. Guess Im just the odd ball here but I love the country. You know sappy songs. Kinda reminds me of why I ride.( to get closer to my kids). garth brooks...one night a day Listen to the words and youll figure itn out. David Ps I only named one but anyhting counrty works for me.
  10. 10 46 working here in smithfield nc. A little slow to load but Im in a motel with super crappy wifi so that might be reason enough. David
  11. I had to set up mine on my chaecking acount also, but like many others have already said I use a credit card (visa) as my second acount and use it for paying for what I buy. David
  12. hey just wanted to thank everyone for the measurements I asked for. None came from the thread, but 2 peaple looked up my info in my user profile and called. I want ask any more questions. Thanks to those who called you info was invaluble. David
  13. \ You got to watch out for those irish leprichans too. They are about 5 ft tall ,redheaded , and carry water jugs which they use to cool peaple down when thewy have their backs turned. Lot of peaple call her a mini. David
  14. yes I understand that they may kneed to be rebuilt. If so it will be someone else besides me as I have neither the tools or the knowledge. I read the tech threads on the hhows and whats. It is way above my head. Only way i would be able to do this is if it was under the tutalidge of someone who has the tools and knowledge. With that being said what im looking for is the fork length prloaded and loaded as the bike rides perfectly.it doesnt bottom out ,bounce ,or anything unusual. It just accordians the hootie booties when they are installed and that seems to be unique for my my buke. With that being saidthe first place I would like to look is at the fork compression and see if what I have is normal or if it kneeds to be rebuilt. Sorry if seem like Im being a smarta## as its not meant that way, just looking to see if its bad before I fix it. thanks in advance. David
  15. Ok after ordering a set of hottie booties and haveing some probs. And multiple call to Russell( thanks by the way for taking my calls on your vacation) , it seems that My bike is haveing a bit of a prob. I have a 91 vr and it seems that the froks are compressing too much with my weight on the bike. I know Im a big boy and all but I would like to figure out what is going on. So now for the request. I am 250 lbs so if any of you first gen riders out there can give me some measurements I would appreciate it. What I kneed is the length of the fork tube from the dust seal to the triple tree in both static weight and loaded passenger weight. First weight is with the bike on the side stand and no rider and second weight is with the rider on the bike and setting it up off the side stand. Any help would be appreciated as I really dont want to have to have these forks rebuilt . I would have to have someone else do it as Im not much of a mechannic. Also run my front class setup at medium both fromt and back so if you could set your class the same I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. David
  16. now what telling he was telling me was it wouldnt pull that much power it would just fool the system into thinking it was pulling that much power........... now Im really confused. I dont even know what all those terminologies are that was posted earlier much less where to find them. Might just sell it and forget about it. David
  17. my 91 is a bit top heavy at slow speeds but it took me awhile to get used to it. Hope you find a happy medium. And my bike did seem to get a little oversensative to my reactions until the new tires got scrubbed in. David
  18. ok Going to post this without testing the theory. But a fellow rider and myself discussed this the other day. He said he bought your standard ruibber gloves used for cleaning with chemicals and wore them under his insulated gloves and his hands were completeley warm in below frezzing weather. Agin I havent tested this but I will next winter as being a painter I have various types of rubber gloves on the truckranging from light weight like used in a doctors office to the heavy duty work gloves used in commercial type applications. Seems to me to be a goood idea as whenever I wear rubber gloves of any type my hands get hot. David
  19. just talked to the owner of http://canadiancruisercustomizing.com/. This is where I orderd my set. I explained the the computer problem and he told me to get a set of 6 ohm load resisters and wire them inline on the bike side of theoriginal h4 female plug . Says this has worked for several peaple ,as he has ran into this problem with a few didge trucks and cars with computer s that moniter the headlihgt bulbs. Hope this works as mine shipped out today and all that other stuff is confusing as h#ll to me. Also I read about putting a switch to shut down the lights until you crank the bike. I would like to know how to do this anyways as I have had a few times that it would have come in handy to be able to move the bike without the light on.IE when times that I am pulling into and out of motels and the like and dont want to bother other peaple. David
  20. just orderd a hid. Now Im scared. I forgot about the computer so now Im sceerd. After reading this I realize I have no idea what your talking about. So I may just install this kit on my wifes shadow and leave it at that. Im no mechanic and all that electrical writeup confused me. David
  21. Squidley either makes or used to make a horn/ running light replacemaent bracket for the first gens, Then just pick up whatever lights you desire to mount on top. I love mine with a set of blasser lights from walmart on them. David
  22. Dont see why not. AAmcotrans just picked up one with a front/top see through pocket for the gps. David
