  1. Well...since this thread has already been adequately highjacked, I'll add my own prank. Years ago when I worked as an electrician, we used to send new helpers to the tool room for a long stand. Of course the tool pusher was well aware of it and when the new helper would show up and say "I'm here for a long stand"...the tool pusher was just tell him "ok...just stand over there". It is amazing how long some of them would stand there waiting.
  2. It is actually because you get more light if you use the red LEDs behind a red lens. My company manufactures LED lit channel letters like you see on the front of retail stores. We offer them in several colors including red, yellow, green, blue, etc. We have done a LOT of tests in regards to which combination of LED and face colors result in the brightest letters. It all has to do with the lightwaves put out by the various colors and how those lightwaves are filtered by the color of the faces. It is a fact that you get brighter output when you match the LED color to the face color. So in short, what they are recommending is correct.
  3. Looks great. Which kit is that? Motortrike?
  4. I am NOT going there.
  5. Well, aside from the questionable name, did you look at the demo? It actually looks like an interesting product.
  6. I agree then that they are loose. If they bounce off the stops and then return to the stops. I set them so that they bounce off the stops and then come to a stop, not return to the stops.
  7. I'm not sure that you have a problem. The fact that they bounced off the stop two or three inches does not mean that they are loose. that is perfectly normal. If they hit the stops and don't bounce back at all, they are very likely too tight. The trick is to swing it gently and let it hit the stops. It should bounce off and then come to a smooth stop and NOT sway back and forth.
  8. OOPS.....thanks. I just corrected it.
  9. The suggestions are all good but don't rule out a bad battery. You say that it's not very old but there have been MANY cases of even new batteries that have a problem. The symptoms that you describe sound very much like a discharged battery. The radio cutting out was a good first signal as mine did the same thing when my last battery failed. I would have it load tested before doing anything else.
  10. It is absolutely true that you can slide the drive shaft back in and completely miss the u-joint. Been there and done that. It is NOT a pretty sound.
  11. I've owned two '99 models. Both had the center bolts missing and tie wraps substituted. Both have the end tabs broke off. Goose has a good repair for the broken end tabs in the tech library. I never tried to get mine warrantied. I feel that they would just break again if repaired under warranty. It's a weak area and this repair is better in my opinion. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20293
  12. Just the bushing on the right side.
  13. These guys would like to become sponsors of VentureRider.org You folks have no idea how many sponsors I turn down here. I have to be sold on the company and/or product before I will consider it because I want to only recommend great products and companies and I don't want to clutter this site with banners. I try to limit the number of banners to only a few at the upper right of our site and keep that number down so that each sponsors banners comes up often. That being said, what are your opinions on this windshield? http://www.baggershield.com/
  14. I love that gun. Back when I used to hunt a lot, my favorite deer rifle was my Ruger International. Bolt action .308 with the same stock. Was my all time favorite rifle.
  15. While the one from IMC would do the job and certainly be easy to install, I don't think I would like it near as well as the Mic Mutes. There is one major difference. In order to eliminate the wind noise from the microphones, the rider and the passenger had to turn off their mic. Then to talk again, both parties have to switch their mics back on. Then I have to remind my wife, or myself, to turn it off again after I once again notice the wind noise. The Mic Mutes is different and, in my opinion, superior because it is integrated with the system. If I momentarily press my push to talk button, it enables the system...my mic and my wife's mic...and we can talk. To turn it off again, I simply momentarily press the push to talk button again and it turns my mic and her mic off again. She can do the same thing by pressing her push to talk button. For me, it is a much better integrated system than both people having to remember to turn their switches on and off.
  16. They look like Baker Built but I'm not sure about the mounts. It's been a long time since I've seen them and they no longer show them for the first gen. http://www.bakerbuilt.com/bbairwings/index.htm
  17. I've never done it either. Very sorry Ruffy, I hope that somebody can help.
  18. I agree. At the very most, I might pay for materials and only those that are delivered to my site.
  19. Well in that case....uh........ never mind.....
  20. This will get you started. It shows how to check and replace the carb diaphragms. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19271
  21. WOW....Ruffy....if they will do it for even $80.00, that is dirt cheap. I don't think they have any idea what they are getting into. Even getting to the lower bearing on these bikes is a pretty good sized job. I don't know of any shops that will even pack the bearings for anywhere close to that price. I figured you would be looking at several hundred dollars to do that job. The complete fairing has to be unbolted to drop the forks out and get the bearing off.
  22. When you turn on the key, listen to hear if the fuel pump is coming on. If it's not, it does not necessarily mean that you have a problem, it could be that the floats are already full and it doesn't need to. If it does though, wait a few moments for it to stop before hitting the start button. It sounds like your floats could possibly be empty and you are not giving them time to fill before hitting the starter. The fact that it start consistently on the third try leads me to that possibility. It's not bad advice and these bikes do run stronger at higher RPMs but that does not mean that you have to do it that way all the time. If I am looking for acceleration/performance then yes, I wind it out. If I'm just cruising at a leisurely pace though I don't feel the need to wind it up so tight. You don't HAVE to be going 65 before shifting into 4th either. A lot of people run at 50 to 55 MPH in 5th gear if they are cruising on roads where that is the speed limit.
  23. The connections under the seat sometimes cause problems but much more likely are the connectors inside the fairing. Other than those two places, the next thing would likely be a faulty audio head. A bit unusual but it has happened before. I'm betting though that the connectors inside the fairing are the culprit.
  24. Seeing as it has been setting up for so long, I doubt that just a carb sync is going to correct the problems. It is a good place to start and will only take a few minutes to try it but most likely, you are going to have some carb work ahead of you. At the very least, you probably have some bad diaphragms. It is easy to pull them out and take a look. Any problems will probably be obvious but you may need to hold them up to the light and search for pin holes and etc. Most likely, in addition to bad diaphragms, you will probably end up needing to pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning. If it has been sitting a long time then the old gas has probably gunked everything up.
  25. Good start. Looks like you are following your heart and the guidance of one much wiser. Hope it is a success for you.
