K&N air filters
Freebird replied to jrsain's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yes, they will fit fine. It's the OTHER way that is a problem. The chrome billet covers will not fit over the stock air filters. If you install them, you have to go to the K&N filters. -
I think that it comes with audio but cb/intercom is about a thousand dollar option.

That rumor about having to be fuel injected and water cooled repeats itself every year. For the past 3 or 4 years here it has been stated the the Venture would be discontinued that specific year because it was not fuel injected. It doesn't matter if they are fuel injected or not as long as the meet the EPA requirements on pollutants. As for water cooling, the 2012 Harleys are also out and they are not water cooled either. I think that the water cooling thing has always just been a rumor. I do think that eventually carbs will be a thing of the past though. I have real doubts that there will be a 2012 RSV but I don't really attribute it to the fuel injection issue.

They had it in 2011 and maybe even 2010 but the 2012 added some nice features. Trunk was optional before, standard now. Front lowers were not available until this new 2012 model. I sat on one at a customers place a few weeks ago and it really felt good. I would consider one if I were still in the market. I wish it were water cooled and shaft drive though. It is air cooled and belt drive. Yea, I know, it is OIL cooled but that is STILL basically air cooled.

Yes, I've actually already looked at that also. It can absolutely be done but it requires a fair amount of custom modification of the code. It's not that big a deal to do it once but the problem is, it has to be done again every time there is a software upgrade. I have a lot of customizations already and am trying to keep any actual code changes to a minimum. It takes ONE click of the mouse button to go to the advanced mode. I just don't know if it is worth all the custom programming.

side / kick stand worn out...
Freebird replied to brainfart's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That dealer and I would be going toe to toe. There is NO WAY that the bushing should be considered a wear item and it and the sides stand should be replaced under warranty. I've been around a LOT of these bikes from '99 to present and have not known of the bushing on the side stand wearing out. You should be talking to Yamaha corporate if he won't get off that lame story.- 6 replies

Folks, I agree with those here who say that the stock springs on these RSVs are just weak. I have owned two '99 models. I can assure you that the clutches were maintained per the manual and I can PROMISE you that neither bike ever had any type of oil used in them that was not specifically made for motorcycles with wet clutches. On my first '99, the clutch started slipping at just over 30,000 miles. On my current '99, the stock spring was replaced at my last maintenance day with about 30,000 miles on it. In the first case, I changed out only the spring and that corrected the problem. On my current bike, SkyDoc installed his complete kit in it. I don't expect that I will ever experience any slipping again. Yes, the springs in these RSVs are a weak point. I have never had to replace the disks or the plates. The good news is that it is a cheap and simple fix. It's just not a big deal to correct the problem. If you are running the stock clutch and it is not yet slipping, I would recommend replacing it anyway somewhere around the 30,000 mile mark. If it is not already slipping, it will soon enough. Just get it over with already.

I remember that it has something to do with the way that threads are displayed. I think that the quick reply function only works correctly if the forum is set to only allow "Linear" display mode of the posts. Some folks here like the threaded or hybrid modes and quick reply doesn't play well with those.

It could be. I actually did it once before but it conflicted and caused problems with another modification that we use. The problem is, I can't remember what that problem was.

I agree with the EBC. I use the EBC HH on my '99. Some folks don't like them on the rear but I like them front and back.

We will be looking at the options. To be honest, I'm looking more towards the east for next year. Possibly somewhere in West Virginia or even the Northeast like the Vermont area if somebody would step up in that area. There is some fantastic riding in the White Mountains.

Need Prayers for Ponch!!!
Freebird replied to Sweetnothing's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
I didn't go back through all the messages and try to find the post but I do remember a post that stated both tires are still fully inflated so I don't think that was the issue. -
Yes, and if I remember correctly, the early year were even worse. Most, if not all, of them read like they were running hot. I was told that it was normal but that Yamaha heard about it so much that they re-calibrated the temp gauges on later year models so that they did not APPEAR to run as hot.

Wil, I wish I could help but I'm not sure if mine was the same. I have changed that coil on my bike and just don't remember having that much of a problem. I didn't pull anything except possibly the side and center covers and I don't even remember for sure if I pulled them or not. It may be though because all my AIS system is long gone. I can't remember but it may have been in the way and is why you are having such a problem getting to the screws.

It could also very well be that the vent is plugged up. When he opens the cap to fill it up with gas, does there appear to be a vacuum? That would be my first thought.

Please keep Eileen in your prayers
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
It's over now folks. I just got a call from my wife and Dolores passed away about an hour ago. Eileen got there yesterday and stayed with her through the night and was there when she passed. She is going through a very difficult time but is a strong lady and I know that she will be fine. I thank you for your prayers and continuing prayers during this difficult time for her. Dolores was a vibrant, lovely and sweet lady. I think that she was only 48 years old so it seems that she was taken from this earth way too early but I know that there is a reason for it and somebody we will all understand that reason. -
I tell you what though. If I were going to spend that much money, I think I would have to consider something like this too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Motorcycle-Tire-Changer-ATV-Tire-Changers-Free-Frt-/320745659956?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item4aadee5e34

I'm got a Harbor Freight tire changer and it does the job but though I've never personally used the No-Mar changer, from what I've seen, it is a couple of steps about the Harbor Freight unti. Webbike word did a good write-up on it a while back. Here is the link. http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-tires/motorcycle-tire-changer/

Ah, the 5th gear whining
Freebird replied to farm1810's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yes, there is a rev limiter. You cannot hit it in 4th or 5th but you can hit it in 1st - 3rd. I don't remember for sure but I think it is set at about 6250 or 6500 RPM. -
Brian, Have you recently changed any of your browser settings? Try clicking on "tools", "general", "browser history", "settings". Make sure it is set to "search for newer versions of stored pages"...."every time I visit the page". Don

Yea...now there you go. Just ONE little mistake and you are going to throw that up to her. -
Works fine for me. I just click on the header when it tells me to. Then I click the main body of it again and expands to full size. It takes two mouse clicks to make it full size.
