  1. He's doing OK folks. He stopped by the house on Saturday. He has had a lot going on this summer. His mother has been sick and he has made a couple of trips to be with and help her. He's fine though.
  2. You'll get answers all across the spectrum. Do a search for Garmin and you'll find a LOT of threads on this subject. I personally use the Zumo 665 because I love the built in XM and MP3 but if you don't need those things, there are much cheaper options.
  3. Just so you know, Phil sent me an email about joining up here and I told him that would be fine. I will be adding him to our member vendor section so he can keep you all updated on any special offers and etc.
  4. There is a list of individual part numbers in the tech library but I've never seen mention of an actual kit.
  5. ah...OK. I guess it just never bother me. I guess it is pretty well hidden on the RSV due to the trunk.
  6. Either you used a different one than most of us did or else I'm not sure what you are talking about. Did you use the one that is shown in this thread? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768
  7. Well, if it had a built in XM or Sirius, that just means that I would have to pay for yet another subscription. I much prefer my stand alone unit in the Garmin 665 that I can move around from one vehicle to another. I honestly am surprised that anybody expected to see anything new. If there was an entirely new RSV on the radar, there would have been at least SOME leaked information about it. I never expected to see any updates to the current bike. If and when we see a new Venture, I fully expect that it will be totally new, not just small changes to what we have now. It does worry me a bit that they made updates to the Stratoliner. NAV system and etc. They appear to be moving it more and more towards a full blown tourer. About the only things remaining are a tour pak and cruise control. Not sure if it has intercom or not but those are very simple things to ad. I HOPE that is not the future of the Venture. I think it's a nice bike but certainly not a Venture.
  8. I'll have to check it out either tonight or over the weekend. Gotta see if you AT LEAST got a plug in for VentureRider.org. Can you post a direct link to the interview?
  9. I agree with Rick that the bike needs very few changes. I've had mine for well over 12 years now and it's the first bike that I have ever owned for more than about a year. Yes, I've looked at others over the years. I think the Ultra Classic is a beautiful bike and I am intrigued by the new Victory Cross Country but neither excite me enough to replace my RSV with one. Fuel injection might be nice but I'm not unhappy with the way my carbs work. Cassette deck? Who cares. It is hidden anyway and mine is long gone and replaced with gauges. I really prefer NOT having a built in NAV system and/or satellite radio. I have XM, NAV and MP3 in my Garmin and much prefer that to any built in system because I can move mine back and forth from the bike to my work car. Yes, it would be nice to see Yamaha make some changes. It would add some new excitement to the line. For me though, I'm still pretty happy with the RSV. My biggest fear is that when they finally DO update it, they will go to more of the Goldwing or even sport touring type format. I love the cruiser styling and if they did that, it would mean that when I finally DO get ready to buy a new bike, I would be looking at the Ultra or the Cross Country.
  10. Rear hub. Left side of bike. Black cable going into it.
  11. I'll repeat my prediction. There will be NO new Venture. There may very well be no Venture at ALL.
  12. There have just been way too many injuries and deaths lately. I've reached a point where I just really don't know what you say any more. Words seem so inadequate to express our sincere condolences for you and your family but please know that they come from our hearts and that you will be remembered in our prayers.
  13. It was sincerely our pleasure to host you for a short time. Maintenance Day is not a good time to spend with people one on one as there is just way too much going on but we enjoyed the little time that we had. I hope that this is a trip that will bring you many years of memories and smiles and that we see you both again in the near future.
  14. I agree with you. Stand your ground.
  15. Too late for that and I forgot to take any pictures. Didn't even think about it. She met me at the dealership on PA today and then I saw the rear of it heading to OH.
  16. Haven't even looked at the manual yet so don't know what it says about recommended intervals. I figured with 8.5 quarts though that it would be longer than usual. Still, I can't imagine letting it go 10,000 miles. I know it would probably be OK but I just don't think I could do it. I'll probably figure about 5,000 miles, depending upon what the manual says. Seeing as it is rear wheel drive, I figure it will pretty much just be a summer car anyway and I doubt that she'll put more than about 5,000 or so miles a year on it. She may surprise me though. and Mel...you are correct...when this car was new it listed for just shy of $40,000 but I can ASSURE you that I have NEVER paid that much for a car. These things can actually be picked up pretty cheap now.
  17. Thanks. I'll keep them in mind. Luckily it has what looks like almost new tires on it. When my wife met me in PA to pick it up, I told her to not get too excited because due to the price of tires, she could only drive it once a year. There isn't much room in them that's for sure. I was surprised though that once I got in it and the seat put all the way back, I was actually quite comfortable. Yes, Dylan has already made some suggestions to Eileen about how he might be able to make use of it. Well, time will tell and I'm sure it depends upon how you drive it. It is rated 17 city and 27 highway. For some reason, Eileen always seems to get better gas mileage out of our vehicles than I do. One other thing that I noticed last night while looking at some specs online. They recommend synthetic oil, which I always use anyway. BUT...this thing takes 8.5 quarts of oil. Now any of you who know me know that I always use Mobil 1...but at over $8.00 per quart X 8.5 quarts PLUS the filter?
  18. Well, I'll try to get her to post later but I promise you that this is her baby. She hasn't seen it yet though. I found in in Pennsylvania over the weekend. I am here on business this week and went by yesterday to check it out and made the deal. I called and told her that it was hers and she is about as excited as I have seen her in a long time. Her brother is driving her to PA today to pick it up. I talked to her a little while ago and she told me that she was so excited that she had been up since 5:00. Those of you who know Eileen KNOW that she doesn't do 5:00 for much of anything. Anyway, she is supposed to meet me at the dealership around noon. It is supposed to be all detailed and ready to go. It's far from new. It's a 2004 model with 31,000 miles. According to the CarFax, it came here recently from San Antonio. Appears to be in excellent condition. For those who are not familiar with the Crossfire. It was only made for about 4 years. It was imported by Chrysler from Germany during the time that they were owned by Daimler. It has the Mercedes engine that was in the SLK Roadster. The tranny and all underpinnings are also Mercedes. The body was made by Karmman in Germany also. One cool little feature is an automatic real spoiler that raises at speeds above 60 MPH. It can also be raised manually from a toggle switch on the console. Most of the road tests that I read were very favorable. Some complained that it was slightly lacking in power but I sure didn't feel that way when I drove it. Very responsive and the 5 speed auto tranny is awesome. Had it been for me, I would have looked for a 6 speed but most of the reviewers actually preferred the auto in this car. One negative is the price of tires. It has good tires and I don't think we will put that many miles on it but it has low profile 19" tires on the rear and 18" on the front. I read that they are about $1,000.00 per set.
  19. Well hack Craig...you took ALL the fun out of this. How the heck did you get that so quickly? OK...PM me your address and I'll get your winnings to you.
  20. Just a fun little contest for all of you. I picked up a new toy this weekend. Really got it for Eileen as she recently saw one and fell in love with it. I'm going to post a picture or two a day until somebody correctly guesses what it is. The first one to correctly identify the new toy wins a small VentureRider patch and a VentureRider domed decal. So...without further ado, here is the first clue.
  21. Is this it? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37770 It's a good article. I think I need to copy it to the tech library.
  22. This is silly talk. You KNOW I was born and raised in Texas. The truth is though, that may have been the last game that Oberlin won.
  23. I forget to tell you Lewis but I think you already knew. XL for me.
  24. It's strange but it's not a problem on all the bikes. My '99 has the original plugs and I have never seen any leaking.
  25. Payment sent. Sent a bit extra to cover PayPal fees but then remembered to send it as "personal gift" so there shouldn't be any fees. So, consider the extra a donation.
