05 RSV carb cleaning
Freebird replied to pilot172's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with Boo. There is absolutely no way I would put those carbs together without setting the floats first. I have never yet heard of one that had them set correctly from the factory and I would be surprised if the dealer did them or did them right. Goose did a great article and it's very easy to do. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24246 -

Easy to install. Some folks have mentioned putting a piece of wood between the fender and the hole that you have to drill out just as a safety precaution.

Well, I'm no Apple fan but I am proud of my son. He went through 7 interviews to get the job. The first one was a group interview with about 140 other applicants for two positions that they were hiring for. One was in inventory and the other in sales. It was the sales job that he wanted and finally got. He has been working for Best Buy in cameras, computers and cellular for about a year so had some experience but so did many of the others. He did good.

Well folks, you try your best to raise your children right but what do you do when they finally do something that is a complete embarrassment to you. From the time they are born. You try to set a good example. Yea, we often fall short but we do our best and hope that they learn the important things that they need to know to get through this life. Now those of you who have sons can surely relate. Things are much different today than they were when I was a kid. Back then, those of us with a bit of a wild streak would drive our fathers crazy by sneaking out and riding our motorcycles all night, getting in fights in the smoking area at school, having a good pocket knife taken away by a teacher. Heck...I've even had the local police call my dad to tell him that they caught, but let me go, for having a couple of cold ones in my car. All things things and a lot more that I know caused some premature gray hair for my dad. In spite of doing my best though, I still always had that little bit of fear nagging deep inside. It got worse when Dylan started driving. Though I know that he is basically a very good kid and has never caused me any real trouble, I also know that we as parents certainly don't know everything. You worry that he will end up having a few beers with friends and the police will call late one night....luckily that never happened. You worry that you find out that they were busted drag racing on some deserted road. That never happened. The biggest fear of all is that they come home one day and tell you that they have gotten a girl in trouble. Always a big fear...hasn't happened. So just when I thought that we had made it past most of these things....tonight Dylan calls me with news that I never thought I would have to hear. Though he had alluded to it in passing a couple of times...I had simply told him to NOT become an embarrassment to me and I thought he had listened. I guess not.......................so......... I may as well say it...my son is....well....he has admitted to being an APPLE fan and as of today was notified that he has been hired by APPLE. Now he is in college and it is a part time job at a local Apple retail store but still....APPLE. I guess I should blame myself. We should have never moved to Ohio. I could have stayed in Texas...maybe moved to the Austin area so that he could be near Dell. I still tried though....he has been raised on Dell computers. I just assumed that he would grow up to be a PC man. But APPLE??????? To add insult to injury....he threw it in my face that he would be able to get me a discount on a new Apple computer. Oh why couldn't he have just gotten a girl in trouble.

YSS Shock test and deal for someone in NJ.
Freebird replied to etcswjoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like a great opportunity for somebody. Sure wish I was closer. I hope that somebody takes advantage of the offer. We could all benefit from it. -
From my experience. The speed and odometer are both off from the factory. Not the same amount though. I found that on most bikes, the speedo is off about 7 1/2% and he odometer is off about 3 - 4 percent. So after you correct the speed with the Speedohealer, the odometer will be under reporting about 3%. To me, that is not significant enough to worry about and I prefer the speedo being correct.

Progressive Springs ROCK!!!
Freebird replied to OldGazer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, I've changed the front springs on my '99 but I did NOT use Progressives. At the advice of Rick Butler, whom I have a lot of respect for, I went with Sonic Springs. Maybe it has changed but at the time, Progressive did not offer a spring specifically made for RSV. They list the same spring as used on the Royal Star I think. The Sonic Springs are a heavier weight spring than what is offered by Progressive and I think a better choice for the RSV. I couldn't be happier with mine. -
I've about given up on her. After all these many years...she has STILL not returned my calls.

A CONVERSATION? You mean like.....really talk....face to face? Doesn't that seem a bit drastic.

Thigh high boots and the whip would work for me.

I bought 10 tickets. 8 of them had absolutely NO matching numbers. Two of them matched ONE number. Guess I'll keep working.

I received this notice for our chat room hosting company. Should be minimal if any downtime. Hello, Recently it has come to our attention that some clients are having performance issues due to poor routing of upstream providers. As these issues have caused severe degradation of service for some clients we're unfortunately forced to push up the time table for our network upgrades. We will be scheduling a 4 hour window starting at Saturday 11PM PST to Sunday 3AM PST. Projected impact on network connectivity is minimal but as such major upgrades don't always go according to plan we wish to give network admins time to back out the changes. The new network will be based around multiple redundant Cisco ASR 9000's and performance optimized by Internap FCP hardware. We apologize for the short notice but we firmly believe this action is needed to keep the 123 Flash Chat hosting network at peek performance, we appreciate your understanding. 123 Flash Chat

There is a very easy answer to this. You know where I live. Just come to Oberlin, wash and wax my bike and I'll take you for a ride.

I had a good friend that was experiencing a very similar problem while we were attending a MTA Rally in Harrison, AK a few years ago. His turned out to be the lean angle sensor. Had that replace and no more problems. Although, I'm not sure he had the problem with starting the bike, just it shutting down when riding if I remember correctly.

I'm sure that one sounds fantastic by now. It sure takes them a while to open up but I know that the more you play one, the quicker it happens.

Yep...The Beverly Hillbillies....WOW....he could pick with the best of them.

Folks, I don't think that we need to over think this. I can tell you that David and Kathy have been to my home several times for Maintenance Day. I honestly believe that they have always had a nice time and I know for a fact that David has no negative feelings at all. If he does, it would truly shock me. He and I have spoken a couple of times since his accident and he has repeatedly expressed his love for the members here and the VentureRider organization. I have no idea what Kathy may be going through. I know that she was always a warm and sweet person at my house. I am just speculating here but I suspect that any bad things that she is feeling now is probably towards the motorcycle community in general. Ponch's accident has no doubt taken a tremendous toll on their life and she is quite likely not too fond of motorcycles now and may feel that his involvement in this organization added to his love to a pastime that is the cause of what they are going through now. I have nothing bad to say about either of them and have no idea what Kathy may be going through or thinking but I will continue to count them both as dear friends. If something did happen at an even then I am sincerely sorry but I think it goes deeper than that.

Well, the Taylor 814ce and the Martin GPCPA1 are both listed at all the big box stores here for $2999.99 but I can tell you that you can find them hundreds cheaper at some of the smaller independent shops. It is a lot of money for a guitar but it was something that I spent some time trading up to. I sold two guitars that I bought right and made money on that almost paid for this one. It's more than I ever thought I would spend on a guitar but I do think this one is a keeper.
-
OK...here are some pictures. What I ended up with is a Martin Custom Shop GPCPA1. It differs from a off the shelf GPCPA1 for the following reasons. Adirondack Spruce top as opposed to Sitka Spruce. Dove Tail Neck Joint. 5/16" hand scalloped Golden Era bracing forward shifted. HD 28 style polished/beveled pick guard. Premium Indian Rosewood back and sides. Bone Nut, Saddle and Bridge Pins. and yes, it was too much money but it was one of those that when I picked it up, I didn't want to put it down. Luckily I sold two guitars last week that came close to paying for this one. Well....fairly close.
-
Not sweet enough....it went back after two days. I've determined that I'm just not a Taylor guy. I tried the 814ce and when I took it back, I tried the 810ce and the 816ce and they just don't do it for me. I guess I just like the fullness and low end of the Martins. To my ears, the Taylors just didn't have any guts. So, I went back and looked at the Martins again and FINALLY found the one for me. No pictures yet but I'll take some a little later.

Yes, that is it. I bid $12.00 and was outbid immediately which means you had a high bid in higher than my 12.00.
