  1. DOnt let anyone talk you into doing something youre not comfortable with. If you want a trike to be able to ride in the rain, do it. I dont care what anyone says, in my mind the roads feel slippery when wet, and I dont know that I would pull a trailer in the rain. Brian:2cents:
  2. You didnt pay for a set of boots already didja Charlie? That FJR is gonna get you intrubble:stickpoke: Brian:smile5:
  3. OK Who is at Sturgis with their RSV? A few friends are down there and sent back a pic of a trike, but it looks like a nice RSV i beside it. Brian
  4. Hi Gary Mabbe check your nuetral switch, its in behind when you pull off the middle gear cover. Mine had a crack in and would kinda sweat oil. Also my oil level sensor switch was leaking around the oring. For a while it seemed my 85 was leaking outta everywhere. Brian
  5. Yes you can, or I just Start at the beginning and in order click all the points I think i want to stop at and it will only use mine to get to the destination, not Harleys. Brian
  6. I use the Harley Ride Planner a fair bit, its easy and it does the upload directly into your Garmin. plus theres a spot where you can email your friends and let them access a webpage that Ride Planner makes so they can see what route youve decided to take. I also use the webpage to plan our weekly group rides, so riders (esp newbs) can have a look ahead of time where we are going. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Ride_Planner/Ride_Planner.jsp Brian
  7. I am with Jack here, if youve got the front tab in the grommet and the rear screw under the gas fill lid in, i cant see how it came come out. Brian
  8. Everything youre going to cover is going to make a great ride, most of your distances arent to big in between and the roads are great with the exception of some construction in a few places. I had heard there is some around just east of Golden, but I dont think it will affect you. I love the riding around the Creston, Cranbrook, Nelson area but a cool side trip if youre as close as Cranbrook might be to go up to Kimberley and check out the quaint little German town and go another 5 minutes and visit the ski hill there. Also close to Cranbrook is Fort Steele ,an old 1864 Gold Rush fort all restored. Rocket just liked the Kokanee brewery because the tour included a beer or two,,,lol brian
  9. The way the technology and Hi tech training is going keep beleiving that there will be some help for your eye and all of the issues that youre dealing with. Brian
  10. It looks great jack but I am a sucker for a black and shiny combo. brian
  11. Try seeing it from the inside as it was done while I was awake......its the most intense thing ive ever had done. I could actually see the instruments working inside the eye.....and that just sent shivers down my spine...BUT i am so thankful that we have the technology and the people to do that kinda stuff. Brian
  12. If your b-i-l has issues he should see someone asap, DO NOT WAIT!!! If he has a retina detachment it is very important to get surgery as soon as possible. If he doesnt the retina cant be reattached, I had my surgery within hours of it being discovered and while my vision isnt perfect yet its getting better daily. If he needs more info tell him to call me and ill tell him what I know, but he needs to see somone who knows way more than me about eye surgery. brian
  13. They may be wimpy but they look way better than my air horn. Brian
  14. The solid motor mounts made a big difference in handling on my 85. It just feels more like a newer sports tourer now, but it has some power!. I would also replace your water pump if you havnt already done that, as I think the originals had a plastic impeller that would break up,( mine had a crack in it when it was pulled). And there is no better time to bite the bullett and put in SS brake lines they are pricey but my brake distance dropped by at least a third. Now I know they will hold, the old lines were starting to make me clench my teeth every hard brake, thinking they might blow. The new ss lines also add a bleeder up at the triple tree to make bleeding a lot easier. Brian
  15. I am amazed at what they can do now, and with You Tube we can view almost anything. I couldnt view this until a week ago. The stuff I saw while i was awake thru this procedure lasted me for quite a while. We are living in an amazing time, I would have been blind if my cataracts and retina issues had happened to me just 40 years ago. There are going to continue be breakthroughs that are going to help people like you and me make our lives so much better than anyone thought possible just a couple of years ago. (Sorry for posting the link, I didnt intend to freak you out..) Brian
  16. I dont know if theres a difference, but in case there is right now there is an 85 front fender on ebay for about 5.99 with about an hour left. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380255151770&viewitem Brian
  17. When I was reading Freebirds article on the work done on his eye it occurred to me that we have seen some amazing advances in medicine and the things they can do to help out eyesight is nothing short of amazing. BUT it is Really unnerving and can be painful depending on the procedure done. The You Tube video I am posting is the same as the one done on me, but they dont show the needles used to freeze the eye that are inserted into the corners of the eye at the start of the procedure. I was wondering why i stil have an ache in the muscle behind my eye over a month after the surgery, after watching this now I know.....lol! My doc insisted I do this with a local anesthetic and it was a curious/cool/eeeewww! feeling when I could watch the instruments from inside my eye.... This is a graphic video of a medical procedure and I am posting just so those that are curious can see what is now possible, but again I warn it is graphic. Brian go to youtube.com/watch?v=ZZhM3hmmCiE
  18. DOn, i feel for ya. I hope that you never have to go thru that type of procedure ever again. Its almost inhumane to ask someone to watch the needle going into your eye......and then get told not to move??? How the heck is that possible, youre a better man than me if you did it without moving. I hope all goes well for you Don and that you never, EVER have to do something like that again. Brian
  19. thats what mine does from time to time, and i cant find the issue, but i think it is probably a bad ground. Mine has always eventually started tho. The reason i think mine is a bad ground is that if I hold the starter button in and then hit the horn button my bike starts......every time. But I cant find the issue as it is so intermittent. (dont shoot me for asking this....but the kill switch is set on run....right? ) Brian
  20. I think the RTV is "room temperature Vulcanizing" rubber. Mine leaked thru that grommet and I had a bear of a time getting it stopped. I finally gave up and took it to a 1st gen friendly dealer about 2 hours from home and to their mechanic named Harley (i thought that was funny working in a yamaha dealer). What he did to stop the leak that I didnt was he put rtv on both sides of the grommet and pulled the wire back and forth thru thr grommet a few times to make sure the RTV was all the way thru the grommet. ( He also really cleaned the wires and grommet real well with some good degreaser to get rid of any traces of oil and then washed the degreaser off with a new clean rag and said he waited for it to dry before applying the RTV) I hope this helps you out a bit. Bria
  21. "Mabbe if we stand out here long enuff the Yogi and Boo Boo will come along and autograph this paper for us."
  22. That is NICE!!!!!! I want one tooo!!!! Have you tried the maiden voyage yet? I am curious how it pulls for you. Brian
  23. most of the dealers cant beleive we are still riding bikes that are over 25 years old. I dont know of a kit but you can look up what you need in the parts fiche area at www.partshark.com , here is a link to their oem parts page http://www.partshark.com/fiche_select2.asp?category=Motorcycles&make=Yamaha&year=1984&fveh=81 I usually look up my part numbers in here before i go to the dealer because of the hard time these dealers give me about riding an older bike. Brian
  24. i adjust mine on side stand, center stand, while holding it , and with 2 up on it. So far it has worked flawlessly. I would love to be able to adjust mine while moving, last week i was riding 2up in a group and forgot to adjust before rolling and had to ride for over an hour until we had a group break. Dingy, if you could do a quick write up and pics on that rolling adjustment mod I would love it. Brian
  25. I dont know where the original stuff would be, but I have heard from a coupleof guys that the rubber string stuff used to hold screens in windows and doors works just fine. Its sposed to be easier to use their wheel tool to push the stuff into the track than doing it by hand. Brian
