  2. I am with SilvrT on this one,theres no real need to change the oil before the recommended specs if it looks ok when changed.... BUT, IF my oil or final drive oil looks burnt or seems to have a lot of particulate in it I will change earlier next time and monitor stuff to see if I can figure out what is going on. (eg running rich, water getting into final drive etc) BUT, with that all being said mine very seldom gets to 6000 kms before it gets a change. Brian
  3. My 85 does have the larger trunk like the mkII , but it has a backrest like the mkI and no rear speakers or controls. It is removable with keys and has a nandle on top. Condor may be right, I hadnt thought of availability of the rack as they were only made for one year. Brian
  4. what are ya trying to go? are ya trying to put the larger trunk on your MK1? if so try and track down a bracket for an 85 and they were still a mk1 but had the bigger trunk like the mk2's Brian
  5. I beleive Rocket ordered the ones for my 85 G1 from Buckeye and they came with the extra bleeder up at the top of the triple tree to make bleeding easier too. Brian
  6. Ever since Rocket put ss lines on my 85 my stopping has improved amazingly. I am at least 1/3 less distace to stop than it used to. Brian

I would add that you may want to find a 2 by 4 to set the kickstand on to get the bike level when doing an oil change to get as much oil out of the pan as possible.(also handy for checking oil in the sight glass) your bike may feel a bit upright but if youre careful your bike will not tip over, it should still feel stable.   8. It sounds to me like you have the bike stuff done, I always travel with an ICE (In Case of Emergency) form in my inside pocket of my jacket, and encourage anyone riding with me to do the same. On it list your name address, phone no., etc ,health issues, meds, family contact numbers, and any peoples cell numbers you may be riding with. Take lots of pics to post here so we can all drool over your holiday pics. Also mabbe make note of all the great places you really liked and let us know here so we can try to include them in the list of things to see at next years Venturerider Intl rally in Cody WY. Brian
  9. Welcome to the group! I ride a 1st generation Venture (or G1) so I am not exactly sure whats involved when doing an oil change on your scoot. your bike is a 2nd gen or G2 Venture but I am thinking most of the oil change info is probably here http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm where all of the Venture manuals are available for download. I am sure some G2 guys will be along shortly. Brian

Those pics were taken in early June after the wettest, coldest spring and early summer on record in the area. it has since warmed up almost to normal and there have been several days above 95f that has really dried things out. Ive heard that a couple of weeks ago they were able to dig a trench/ramp to the track hoes using some regular backhoes on some kind of platforms and drove them out. The soil in the area is a mostly clay mix that becomes like rock when it dries out so its not like a sandy soil that might feel kinda liquid even when dry. Brian

Cells use cell towers so if you dont have cell coverage no one will know where you are, where SPOT uses Gps satellites to communicate and you should have coverage almost anywhere, as long as you can see open sky. tree cover and tall buildings etc may affect coverage. i think we all know how spotty cell coverage is, so if youre relying on that in an emergency, you could be in trouble in some areas.   13. I didnt notice an increase in vibration at all. The only time i feel the engine more is if I am having an issue with it, like if it needs seafoam, etc. The rest of the time the mounts are great. Mine have been in about 2 years now and nothing but positves about them. the difference in the stiffness in the frame is startling when doing twisties and accellerating. Brian
  14. Its been a wet year here and very cool. this mess started off with a guy getting his farm equipment stuck in a field about 2 hours north of here. They brought in tractors to pull him out and it looks like things snoballed from there. I gotta think the backhoe guys didnt have a sniff at what they were doing. Brian

  16. My 85 has the solid motormounts and the condorbrace on, and I couldnt beleive the difference in handling these mods made. I thought the solid motormounts would telegraph vibration thru the frame but these engines are so smooth i bareley noticed any change in vibration, but it sure firmed up the frame. I love the spin on oil filter too, it makes an oil change about 10 minutes. (mine just uses any filter that will fit a PT cruiser) The next time you pull the motor out mabbe look at putting in the ss brake lines, it will shorten your brake distance by at least a 3rd and at least youre not relying on a 25 yr old rubber line to stop you in an emergency stop.   17. I think they are a great idea for someone that travels alone a lot, or on roads that arent travelled often. I know Rocket has had a SPOT for at least a couple of years and finds that it makes him feel a lot more in touch with someone in case of an emergency. I like the webpage that it generates so you can track where a person is,if they let you know what the URL is. Rocket never runs on time so its kinda handy to know where he is at and estimate when he will arrive.....and not wonder if he is ok when he is late.   23. Have you calibrated your pressure guage lately? those look like they might have been underinflated. My e3's have close to 15000 miles on them, with a lot of 2 up. Always at 40 lbs front and rear/ About a year ago i threw out an old gauge when i got the new good (60 bucks) digital the old cheap digital one was out almost 10lbs. Brian

  25. those look great David! good job, thanks for posting those pics. That makes for a fairly cost effective way to put a nice looking and sounding exhaust on a G1 bike. Brian
