  1. I beg to differ...Alamo Cycle-Plex usually has what I am looking for (to my wife's discontent). I've never seen a brand new RSV there, but have seen some used ones. However, they do tend to keep a couple of Wings on the floor and have had a Voyager or 2 make it through. A nice mix of bikes from rockets to touring to scooters with some ATVs and Jet skis to throw in the mix. Now, don't get me wrong, they don't carry everything and some of the bigger items still have to be ordered (pipes and such), but their turn around is usually great. I ordered a set of bars for my Vmax the Sat before Thanksgiving and had them in my hands the following Tues. Of course, it helps when you best friend works the parts counter, so he dropped him off at the house (lives across the street) . Plus they try to foster a welcoming environment. They try to do a ride at least monthly. In fact they have a Toys for Tots run on the 13th Price wise, about the same as most dealers, straight up retail....BUT, they run coupon/customer apprciation sales quite often. Usually about 20-25% off, but have ran 50% off coupons, as well (It's how I picked up my Shark Evoline helmet for $225). So if you are a little patient, you can pick up some good deals. In fact I just picked up one of those new GoPro Hero HD video cameras for $240 (20% off coupon), and then used the points I had just earned on my loyalty card to by the bars I mentioned. To me, that's a win.... Just MHO, though...
  2. Changed mine out for a couple of reasons. 1) Sound....I want to hear that V4 roar. But I also wanted the cagers to hear it when I am beside them so they don't run my butt off the road, which was happening all to frequently with the stock pipes. Once I swapped em out, never had an issue again. 2) I loved the looks of the Baron 4-2-4s....just a really good looking set of muffs. Didn't see any real performance increase, but I wasn't expecting to running stock headers...
  3. Here, Here... I love having both. Although it does make for a tough time trying to choose which one to take to work...although, when it is warmer, the Max usually wins...hehehe I, too, have thought about flipping the pumpkins, but in the end, I would much rather just swap out the 5th gear and leave the lower gearing where they are at on the Max...Just haven't set aside the money and time for it....yet.
  4. Nope, not a closet biker. When I was about 5 years old he used to ride a Honda CB750 that he dressed up with bags and a fairing. A couple years later, it was taken out by my oldest brother (let's just say, he was not riding under his optimal conditions). Never bought another bike afterwords. Took me a little over 10 years after I got out on my own before I got my own bike (a lot of that dealing with wife saying no...heh, I finally won). However, when I was getting it, all he was telling me was that "I didn't need one", "too dangerous", etc etc etc. I popped of the fact that he had one and his only reply was that it "was a different time then". "Then" being the 80's...hehehe As time passed on, both he and my mother have pretty much come to accept the fact that it "IS" who I am....although, he does hassle me that I can't flat foot the Venture... Funny side note...only been riding for a couple years now and my mother has popped off about these new riders not knowing how to ride...I look at her funny and remind her that I haven't been riding for that long either, and she just looks at me and says, "But you know how to ride"...hehe
  5. That's because they are linked to attachments in an e-mail. Need to save them and either host them elsewhere or add as attachments here.
  6. Well...according to MCNews.com, a 2nd gen will run 0-60 in about 5.2-5.3s. See here: http://www.mcnews.com/mcn/technical/200801perfindex.pdf
  7. I, too, have this helmet. I use it primarely during the late fall, winter, & early spring on the Venture, but it is my full time helmet while on my V-Max. Have to agree, it is a bit heavy, but it doesn't "feel" any worse than my Scorpion 3/4 helmet. Not the best helmet for headsets, though. I've heard of people getting them in, but I have no idea where they are putting the mic. I ended up just putting a set of Motocomm Thumper helmet speakers in for music when on the V-Max, although I did have to hack it up a little to fit. The conversion feature is absolutely wonderful, though...
  8. I've got a "first gen" of those....back when they were still single core CPUs, 9" screens, 1 gig of RAM, and only 120gig hard drive.....love it to death. Handy as all get out due to it's size....but wouldn't mind getting one of the newer ones...
  9. Thinking of just slapping a set of Supertrapp slip-ons on it....wife not letting me spend $1K plus on pipes just yet...maybe after next years tax return, though:fingers crossed: But yeah...not too many mods at first....still have to get used to the power I got. Sometimes, this thing just scares me....hehehe:D
  10. Thanks for all the comments guys... Snarley: Have no fear...the pegs and lights up front is about as far as I am going to go with "touring" gear. Needed the lights as I am a mid shift worker and primarely ride at night....and the pegs...well, when cruisng, I'd like to be....comfortable. Mini: Yeah, she missing a few articles of clothing....so, I though best to not show a detailed pic. Yammer: Wish I could....but have the same feeling, some might not take to kindly to it Gonna try a pic up a new lid and customize it for general commuting use and just switch off. Right now, I just keep her covered with a small tank bag while at work....have a feeling, working for the USAF, I might offend somebody....damn shame though, it's nice work...the 2nd lid might still have a pin up, just a little more tastefully covered... Humorous part in all this...the wife banned me from Honda Valkyries because I blew past her one day when me and my best friend swapped bikes for the day so he could take my Venture to his shop to get some new shoes put on her. Yet, she lets me pick up a Max:doh:
  11. Well...a couple of months ago, the wife decided she was cool with riding her own bike and would be just has happy on the back of the Venture....So, she let me trade her bike in on a V-Max. I'd been eye balling a few here and there and last Fri decided to pull the trigger and picked me up a 2006 Max w/3600 miles on the clock. Picked it up for $8k out the door...which isn't a bad price, but not a good one either....unless you consider the stuff it came with. It already had the engine guards, sport shield, frame braces, and a few other items that I am still finding as I work over the bike (just found that the previous owner installed a K&N air filter, a couple of hours ago). Also has a nice lil airbrush job on the lid that can be ....let's say...distracting, at times Been having a blast with it since, although I still have to get used to the seat position and not having a "real" shield in front. But, dang that thing is quick....Swapped out the grips and added some lighting up front. Half way through swapping the turn signals, as well....got the rears done & the fronts are waiting till this weekend. Previous owner installed some little signals, that while clean looking, don't light up for crap. Also threw a set of pegs on the guards to stretch out a little when cruising down the highway. Anywayz, just thought I'd share:D
  12. Congrats & welcome to the site....like others have said, you're gonna love the bike, especially all that V4 goodness... As far as cleaning goes....I personally use what used to be called "Honda Polish"...now it's sold under the name Original Spray Cleaner & Polish...or something like that...(aha...found a link for it: clicky, clicky)....great stuff...just wash off the big stuff and this will take care of the rest
  13. Use the same myself....works like a champ. And it sound like the same one jrcain32 is using too...
  14. Have the same setup on my bike...see below: Since the pics, I've also added a light bar under the trunk....and have been pondering replacing the reflector under the plate with a knight riderz light bar....
  15. I have a Shark Evoline. I picked up for during the winter, here. I really like it . It doesn't have alot vents (a whole whopping 2), but it makes up for it by converting to a 3/4. And IMHO it's comfortable in the full face configuration, which says something being I have never cared for full face helmets. And most modular helmets caught my chin (and are dangerous to ride with the face up), which this one does not. Throw in the slide down sun visor and it was a win for me (Of course the 50% coupon for parts&acc at the local stealer helped). If you have access to check one out yourself, I would definitely take a peek...
  16. I tried pulling the baffles once and I just didn't like the sound. I mean, yeah, it was loud and all, but it just didn't sound right to me. Back to your question, have you thought about un-wrapping the baffles and sliding them back in? Just a thought...
  17. Could be mistaken, but it looks like a Hopnel/Show Chrome Tank Tie...You can find one here: clicky, clicky I have one myself...except I clipped that lil whatchamacallit off the pouch Nice part about the pouch is that it is removable with a quick twist-n-pull. Works great for holding my cell and MP3 player, I just snag it as I head in to work.
  18. Same here, except I have the 4-2-4s...
  19. I've seen apes on some harley dressers, but not often. However, I can see why. It can be more comfortable at times. Best friend did it on his Valkyrie (not the exagerated apes, but mini apes) and it was fairly comfortable. I've considered getting a set of these: http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/777/index.html. Just wanting to get a little more pullback so that I am not so upright. On a side note...thanks to the others in the post (TheKid & 2007midnight), I don't feel so bad about being 30...hehehe.
  20. You know...I saw this and it immediately got my attention and can't help from posting about it...Didn't even make it to the other pages. I am a bit on the younger side, at the age of 30, compared to most here, but I still remember when there was cursing and nudity in PG movies...Airplane! comes to mind...
  21. Ya know....from the looks in that picture, they almost look like a set of Baker Air Wings....just chromed...
  22. What a load of B*&$^#...When my wife was shopping for a bike, I did not dictate what she was going to ride. I did make some suggestions on some bikes to look at due to her size (5 ft nothing), as seat height was an issue, but the decision was hers....I just happen to luck out with her liking the V-Star 650 Silverado... Ride what you want to ride
  23. Running Silverstar H3s myself.... When I purchased my passing lamps, I didn't realize they were sealed beam. So, my best friend gave the guts of his father-in-laws passing lamps for his VTX (He is a cop and uses his VTX for funeral escorts...swapped out lamps for LED strobes). The new guts used H3 bulbs, but all I had at the time were the 25W Honda lamps. To me, they were way to yellow compared to my PIAA GTX headlamp. So, I picked up a set of the silverstars at wally world. I tell ya, those bad boys got some light to em....hehehe

    spring please

What's this snow you speak of
  25. I picked up one of these a little while ago and though I'd let yall take a peek at the performance. They sell for about $200 with all the mounting equipment, although I built a custom RAM-Mount setup to make it a little more rigid yet non-permanent like . And I kinda like the wide angle lens, gives you a good view of the road. This was filmed using a reservoir mount and was on a quick jaunt to wally world. On a side note...from my experience, they have excellent customer service. My first camera had a rattle from the view finder being loose. Once I told them what it was doing, they informed me of the "glitch" and requested I send it back to them. Without question, they supplied me with a new camera that works like a champ (hence the video above). The manufacturer's site is here, for those interested...
