As this thread appears to have re-surfaced and it missed it the first time(s) around... Many Moons ago....I was going by my middle name, Chad, at the time...also in this age, the creation of Beavis and Butthead had occuring, spawn the popularity of the word "chode". My good friends thought it was quite humorous that Chad and Chode sounded similar and I was thus dubbed. There was no point in fighting it, it was to be, so I embraced it. Later on, I joined the USAF and thus, Chode now had rank....thus AmnChode....It has thus been my internet 'handle' for over 20yrs now...

Well, I was thinking I'd just take a few 'pre-exisiting' pieces and cannibalize....err, butcher.....ahhh....'re-purpose' them as a test adapter. Basically, I'd snip the end of a J&M cable, the end of a full face (aka, non-boom) Scala mic, and the end of some old ear buds. Would give me a plenty of room to just hodge podge it together to test with. Definitely a function over form project. Hence, the sounding board here before I started with the hacking Then again, it is just a thought to me at the moment as I have a few more projects on deck I'd need to knock out first....primarely getting 'my' RSV back into a running condition (story for another time). However, that might not stop someone else picking up the ball and running with it. it would only take a pair of headsets to do the initial test. 1 for the rider, 1 for the bike....so, a riding partner's headset could be used to test with...and it would already be paired with the rider's to begin with Another random thought....depending on the headsets in question, nothing says the bike headset 'has' to be expensive. As some of the more high end BT headsets we like allow other 'non like-branded' headsets to interface with them, you can theoretically use a fairly cheap headset as the 'bridge' device vs an expensive like-branded unit...could actually make this a fairly in-expensive solution, in the whole scheme of things...

Fellow Venturers.....For whatever reason I started thinking about how to tie a bluetooth headset into the bike coms and to completely get rid of the 'tether'...I mean, wired cable With that said, I've been out of the game here a bit and did a search to see if anything new had cropped up in my respite. From what I have seen, it is a mix of yes and no. BUT....I did come across a post by FreezyRider that did catch my attention: See post here... Now this tickled my brain stem a bit...Especially being recently a friend of mind handed me a Scala Q3 Multiset and a regular Q3 that he had picked up a few years back. He was no real fan of headsets, but you just don't turn down items like that...if he wouldn't use them, he would get them to somebody who would.....hence me, as my 9 year old recently started riding with me. Point being, I have a multiset for me and her and technically have a spare headset to use for 'the bike'. While this is rattling in my head, i figured I needed a sound board to bounce this idea off of before I start investing (be it time and/or money) into to....because if it has already be tried and it is still a no go, it would be a moot point. My idea piggy backs on the idea in said post. Basically construct/use a 5 pin break out adapter to split the mic and speakers into 2 seperate connectors...One, wiring the Mic leads of the 5 pin connector to the speaker pin of the Q3...and Two, wiring the the audio from the 5 pin to the Q3 mic pin. Connect them accordingly and setup the 'bike' Q3 to intercom with the 'rider' set/unit. By using the Vox feature, it would trigger the transmission to the bike's Q3, outputing from the audio connection of the Q3 to the Bike's mic connection on the 5 pin....basically tieing it into the bike's intercom system, and once the transmit button is pressed, it would be transmitted to the CB. Vice versa, any audio from the CB/bike audio would be sent back through the 5 pin audio to the Q3's mic, thus transmitting it across the bluetooth link between the headsets IC link. This also leaves regular 2 BT channels opn on the Q3 to add a phone and/or GPS...by wiring in a USB cable to charge it, it could be made semi-permanent. Short of the headset cost itself (which is still far cheaper than any other solutions I've seen), the breakout adapter should be fairly cheap and easy to construct. Plus, any other headset with Vox that uses a standard Mic and Audio connectors 'should' be able to work as well, not just a Q3 setup... As far as BT audio to the bike, that could be handled with a simple BT to 3.5mm adapter, like so, to the Aux port and then using the phone to send phone calls to go to the headset and music to go to the adapter... Thoughts on the subject? PS...sorry for the 'book' of a post, but I like to be thorough....

Fork Oil and Air Fork Balance Kit
AmnChode replied to AmnChode's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Now don't everyone jump in here at once...hehehe:whistling: I'm just a little concerned as I have a memorial day trip coming up and I want to know if I need to do some last minute work. I know I did lose alot, maybe a couple of ml at best, but don't know how much oil is actually in the forks and whether that would make it unsafe to ride. Thoughts? -
For a touring bike...probably a Valkyrie Interstate or maybe a wing, but prefer the Valk's styling...Might give that Stratoliner deluxe a whirl, though.

I used to use Roxanne as a daily commuter up until I pick up Maxine (my Vmax). Then they would switch off, unless it was thinking about raining, and then Roxanne had the 'pleasure'. However, I picked up a new F-150 a couple of months ago and have been putting the miles on her, as of late, to get her broke in for towing purposes. Although lately, laziness has landed me grabbing the truck keys more often. It is just easier when I am running a little late, then getting geared up But it sure does make it easier to go through drive-thrus:D

Had my rsv dynoed tonite
AmnChode replied to adventurer 08's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds about right...shaft drive robs alot of power, for the expense of being smooth and relatively maint free. It is also the reason you see alot of V-max's converted to chain drive. To get every bit they can to the ground -
Been meaning to post this but been tied up as of late. Last weekend I had tightened my steering head bearings and removed the bars to get better access to the nut. I believe in the process I may have pull the little tube on the balance kit a little and when I took it to work the next day, the tube on the right fork came loose. I noticed this because I had some fork oil running down the fork. I didn't notice any adverse handling, and I am assuming that this because when the tube came off, the forks "balanced" out to 0 PSI. However, what does concerns me is that I lost some of the fork oil. How much "loss" should I be concerned with? Doesn't look like I lost a whole lot, but it is kinda hard to tell as oil, as most of you know, seems to spread easily Also, do I absolutely need the little white thing that slips over the tube and the nipple, as it seems to have disappeared, and would a small zip tie work as a decent replacement, if needed? Thanks in advance

I know as far as Texas is concerned, they haven't carried new motorcycle policies for a few years now. New being additional to what ever you had had previously.... I have Progressive myself....but have pondered going with Dairyland as they offer considerably cheaper rates, at least for me. Probably only reason I haven't switched is because I have progressive setup to automatically debit my payment, whereas with Dairyland I would have to "remember" to make it. Knowing my luck, I'd miss a payment and be up the creek w/o a paddle...

HID Headlights
AmnChode replied to geresti's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I could see that occurring if you had one of the clear (non-fluted) plastic ones....but wouldn't think that would be the case with our glass ones. Could be wrong, though... -
HID Headlights
AmnChode replied to geresti's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
HIDs on my RSV, no....On my Vmax, yes I should correct my RSV statement...no, isn't quite the right answer. Not yet is alot more befitting... Picked up a conversion kit from the dealership I frequent. Had a nice juicy 30% off coupon and dropped it on it. It is a straight up plug and play setup. HID low beam with a seperate halogen high beam that I'll never use. It really lights up the road; although, the fluted lense does spread the beam a bit more than I desire. With that said, I haven't been flashed yet, so I don't believe I'm blinding on-coming traffic. I also have a set of Kuyakyn Silver Bullets (part #2320) that I have just retro-fitted from halogen to LED using a set of these... While they are a little expensive and not quite as bright as the halogens, they only pull 8Ws between the pair and have ungodly hour time . Besides, I only use them for visabilty purposes after I installed the HID, even with the halogens, as you could barely see a difference on or off afterwards... Best part is, only using 43 watts now up front, total, vs 55 watts for a standard halogen low beam and another 50 for the silver bullets. -
Bad thing is...I've had my Kury lighter, new and still in the package, since about July last year. Just haven't got around to mounting it yet... But it looks real good in the package in the computer room....taunting me;) I'm such a slacker...

Ebay one is a Venture (notice that it also has the "newer" air box setup with the front lowers)....dunno why they would stripped all the hard bags off for soft bags....trunk I can see, I have plans to do that myself, but would have left the saddlebags. Dunno what to think on the cycletrader one. If it is repainted, why didn't they replace the seat, as well?

RAM Mount...FTW

Kinda funny you say that. My Evoline is just the opposite. I usually have to ride with the shield cracked to prevent it from fogging....might have to look into this, though...

May just be me, but I do not believe we should have ever made a naturally growing plant illegal. Coke, meth, heroin....that crap you actually have to "produce". Marijuana, you can literally pick a leaf off the plant, eat it and get a buzz... the legalization of pot is a long time over due. Taking into consideration of how much congress is searching for money for this new fangled health care plan, they would have a surplus if they just legalize it & tax the crap out of it.

28 for me...1 of the amendments questions and the assasination question got me (2nd guessed myself on that one).... Although, when compared for my age and location, I am A-OK...7 over for Texas & 8 over for age (25-34)

I use a RAM mount myself. I had a spare ball that I had used with my Garmin Nuvi GPS prior to getting my Zumo, fabricated a small plate to bolt to it for the GoPro mount to stick to and TADA...insta mount...hehehe:D Also picked up one of GoPro's mount kits for mounting on bars to move the camera elsewhere on the bike, like the bag guards and such....goes for about $20

Kuryakyn ISO Grips...I've read them all, but...
AmnChode replied to rumboogy's topic in Watering Hole
Yeah...I have a set of the Kury's with the Baron's Bullet ends. The ends aren't as heavy as the stock end weights but they are heavy enough. Plus they look great... You can see a few pics with them install here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1813 sorry....no closeups.... -
Passing Lights vs No Passing Lights
AmnChode replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
One of the best investments I made for the bike. I can see better, the cages can see me better, and the bike looks better....it's a win all around. Plus, as I do a lot of night riding to and from work, it's nice to know I have some backup lights in case the headlamp goes out while on the road.- 37 replies

Gots me one of the new GoPro Hero HD cameras....although, I have to admit, knew about it ahead of time and actually did a test run with it before it was wrapped. This was due to my prior Hero Wide had a view finder that was loose and had to send back to GoPro for a fix (will admit though, great service )....for those interested, for future Santa/B-day/anniversary request, here is the demo footage I took (tried to just make a link but it embedded automatically). [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8EOnUd32is]YouTube- GoPro HD Hero Camera Test on a Vmax[/ame] Sound quality (note: lack of wind noise...well,subdued at least) has really improved considering it was mounted on my Vmax, out in the wind... You could also, kinda say I got a HID conversion kit for my Vmax, but it was never wrapped. Although, it didn't get it installed till this past monday...that still counts right? Anyways...hope everyone had a great Christmas holiday and wish everyone a Happy and prosperous New Year
