    Klaus, here's a pic of the PiggyBacker Axle under the springs. Eck, by flipping the axle Klaus is saying to turn the axle over and place it between the frame and spring instead of below the spring. Hope this helps.

    You may be right Ken, but I think it's something left over from the days when there were no ignition switches. I just can't think of an emergency situation where one would come into play.???

    Thanks Neil. That's a great tid bit of information. I've posed this question several years ago and didn't get any responses. The problem was I couldn't see good enough to figure out what...or if anything... was down inside that hole in the knob. I had a hard time finding a phillips that would fit, and I have a lot of them. What I did find that would fit was a small slotted screwdriver with a tapered tip. With it I could get a bite on something, and unscrewed what ever is in there?? When I finally did get the screw out it was as you said. I small phillips with a lot of dirt packed in the cross hatch..

    ROTFLMAO.... I could see where this story was going half way thru. That's why I always use the kill switch. It's part of the starting check list. Started using it right after the same thing happened to me, and..... probably every one on this board.... Another thing is using it keeps the dirt and corrosion off the contacts. A dirty switch will drive you nuts....

    Dang!! A veritable heat wave.... My father-in-law was stationed at the AFB Goose Bay Lab., and one night the guys were out on the lake ice fishing. They couldn't figure out why they had to keep skimming the ice out of the hole all night long. Next morning they got the overnight temps. -54F!! You keep the fire lit Oz....

    Eck- The problem is that the area that needs to be repaired has to be kept as thin as possible, or the L hinge bracket and trunk support will not fit afterwards. That's why I'm going to stick with the more pliable glass matt. Metal screen would be a good idea if the damage were located somewhere else, but it's right underneath all the metal plates and front supports. On one side the damage actually takes in the corner of the leading edge.

    John. I don't think knowing the original price on a bike is going to be that much of a help. Knowing aproximately what a scoot sells for on the used market might?? I usually take the approach that no matter what the cosmetic condition of a bike is, it has issues. A lot of factors enter in to what a used bike will sell for, but the biggest leverage you'll have is if the owner is really motivated to sell. I've picked up five 1stGens for way under what they would have brought on the market, and way under what the owner was asking. How? Because I'm not affraid to make a rediculous offer.... you never know unless you ask. Condition... I really like to see a dusty bike...., mechanicals, how long it's been sitting, and best of all... how long it's been on the market are the best reasons to buy low.. The time of year hasn't been a big price influence, as most of the bikes I've owned were purchased right in the middle of riding season. Hope this helps, and good luck.

    The 'O' ring in the housing is the culprit. Fairly easy to replace, and there are write up on the board about it. My 83 only 'dribbles' when it gets down into the 30"s. Otherwise it's fine. I suppose I'll have to R&R mine when if it gets any worse, but for now I'll let it do it's thing since it doesn't get down in the 30 degs area very often....
