  1. I use to fool all the Anchor Clankers all the time as well.
  2. Hey Dingy, I'll take two of those patches. All you 2d genners that can't read.....we're talking stock v/s stock.
  3. Man, if HD moves I will surely feel for those that loose their jobs. But if they must move, I hope they move it here.
  4. Sorry for your loss of Buster. My Golden, Summer, is probably my best friend and is nearing 10 years old. I am startng to worry her day may be near already. I dread that day. She is a wonderful companion.,
  5. Is there any difference in the knock when cold? If knocking only when at normal operating temp, I would suspect the water pump. Does the rhythm increase with engine rpm? Not to discourage you, but I too had a knock. I ruled out the WP, a loose cam chain which could be attributed to a bad chain tensioner, and clutch. I decided to replace the entire motor... no more knock. With only 70K on it, I doubt it is serious. Check out the WP.
  6. Wow; putting this together must have taken a lot of your valuable time I'm sure. I printed your instructions and will get around to this mod soon. Thanks so much.
  7. I've owned 1st editions for going on 25 years now and never have I placed one on the center stand to adjust the air (up or down). I normally adjust the air with the bike supporting its own weight and mine. But I do like the idea of Dinky's mod and am also interested in adding it.
  8. Wow; pretty cool stuff. Where did you find it?
  9. I'm too impatient to wait on anything. You know, the "TYPE A" type.
  10. This 86 of mine had the same problem when I first got it. Once I figured out it had too much oil in the motor and lowered that down to about 3.8 quarts, I just removed the old seal from the bottom of the K&N and replaced it with with a section of that stick on window seal. Been that way for about a year now. Works like a charm.
  11. I'm not touchin this one.
  12. In addition to size (Length, width and capacity), another important factor is sides. I'm afraid that trailering a bike on a trailer with no sides is just asking for a lot chipped paint and chrome goodies once you get where you're going. Just my two cents. If the trailer doesn't have protective sides, I wouldn't use it. Don't ask me how I know this.
  13. I performed the same compressed air a couple times back in the early 90's. That was on an 86 VR. However, I used a can of "Air" used to clean computer key boards. I just stuck the small plastic air tube up the fuel drain hose and gave it a couple small bursts. Had the same results. Never happened again to that bike. Much safer imo.
  14. Me too! Interesting, my lst Gen doesn't look much like a GW and my Harley looks like a 2d Gen and Harleys have been around alot longer than 2d Gens. It's the body style I am referring to. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
  15. Come on now; those of us that have Yamahas also have to invest in repairs and way before hitting the 48 or 49 k mark; I read all the posts too. Harleys are well made in my opinion; have owned them for almost 50 years. Heck, I owned a HD before Yamaha was even thought about. Had an 87 LowRider that I bought new and sold with well over 120k and no rollers of anykind had to be replaced and it too, didn't whine and was extremely reliable. Had it for 10 years. When I sold it, I almost got what I paid for it new. Do that with a Yamaha. Like everything these days, lots of exaggerated claims about Harleys. Don't misunderstand me, everyone has different taste in bikes, I just happen to like them both but still would rather have a 1st edition because it doesn't look like a Harley. And TY for your camping trip to Afghanistan as well. Keep cool. MG
  16. OMG!!!! You must really hate Harleys and they don't even whine.
  17. Sounds to me like your reserve lighting unit assy took a dive.
  18. This didn't work for me. Maybe because it is a Ford.
  19. Chris, Hang on to the rotor/caliper covers, and the rear light bars. I will be by this Saturday to take them off your hands if that is OK with ya.
  20. If anyone reading this has a good set of the dual downturned exhaust/muffler extensions for a 1st Edition, and is willing to part with them for ???? $$$$$$, let me know. I would really love to hear from ya. Thanks MG
  21. Getting out the original plugs after all those miles and time "without" breaking them is a major concern. I started to chang the plugs on my 01 Ford F-150 with cast heads and the first one I attempted to remove broke. So, I took it to a Ford dealer and was quoted 50.00 for each one they broke off in their attempt to remove the other 7 plus 50.00 for the one I broke. Anyway, TMALSS, they broke another 3 for a total of 4 broken plugs they had to remove. Total cost for changing the plugs - $323 and some change. The p/u has only 74K on it now and this was about a month back. Good luck. The old plugs looked almost as good as the new plugs so I probably wasted my bucks.
  22. and I just ate....
  23. God forbid that. And mayors of our P!$$ Ant towns don't make 787,000.00 annually either.
  24. I agree with almost everything you wrote but to compare hitting a DA animal strolling across a roadway is much different than some moron in a cage thinking the light was green when it wasn't and pulling out and killing a biker. Besides animals don't have to take driving tests. Maybe I missed the message in your post but.....
  25. What the PO did is bs. These things run too lean already. You need to find a permanent was to repair those holes or pick up another air filter assembly. Recommend Ebay where they always have multiple listings for 1st Gen air boxes. Good luck.
