VRODs have a lot of guts and in a 1/4 mile will leave blisters on the paint of Ventures. And if you care to check things out the Venture V4 was first designed by Harley but they decided not go with it due to reasons unrelated to performane. Loud things don't bother me in the least, I served over thirty years in the Marine Corps and learned to acquaint noise with freedom. Don't take me the wrong way, I do own a Venture and have since 1986. I love the bike but I also own and will always own a Harley, preferably an Ultra. Couldn't live without either one. Most people, IMHO, would own Harleys if only they were a little bit more affordable.

I would not want to end up running against the Harley that is in the parking lot where I work, he has over $10K into just the engine and runs in the low 8's. And most "stock" VRods turn in low 11 second 1/4 miles. I believe a brand new stock VR first edition ran through the lights in the high 12's. The additional torque the Venture makes cannot make up the 35 or more hp deficit when run against a VRod. Also, there are some really quick other models of HD around. One had got to know his limitations. Don't let me mislead you, I love my Venture and I love my HD. I just get sick of some of the critics.

The other day on a ride with a few other fellows, one on a 2d Edition decided to show how fast his Yammy was and challenged me to a running start (sort of) 1/4 mile showdown. I knew that his bike was much faster but went along with him anyway. There was a bunch of people at at a rode side snack joint that was just about at the finishing line. Of course he was way out in front of me when we passed the finish line. We both turned around and parked at this snack shack located along the service road of I 20 near Highway 281. Anyway after we both parked, even though he cleaned my clock all the spectators came over to my Harley Ultra and checked my ride out for a few minutes and asked a few questions about it. They then headed back inside never even approaching his sled. Too bad I wasn't on my first edition. And be really careful, there are some really fast HD's lurking around, not at all stock, but won't matter if he blows your 83 away. And if this guy is challenging your 83 he might be doing so for a reason. Might be embarrassing for you especially if you can't pull a hole shot with your 1200.

A four-legged member of my family was killed last week...
MasterGuns replied to a topic in Watering Hole
Last August, while walking my Golden Retriever, she was attacked by a Pitt Bull even while she was on the leash. In the process of slamming into her at full speed ahead, he knocked us both down. He had ahold of her lower jaw and he was straddling me. I was doing all I could while laying on my back to get him to release his death bite on her. Finally, I stuck my middle finger as far as I could into one of his eye sockets at just about the same time as the POS owner made his way to where we was laying in the street. This guy is a real POS and was in a drunken stupor. Anyway, he finally got his Pitt of of me and my dog. Summer. In the process of defending Summer I ended up with three pretty severe bits just behing my right knee which took 14 stitches at the ER. Anyway to make a long story short, that mutt perished in December 09 from lead poisoning just like you guys discussed. For the life of me, I just can't figure out how. The jerk owner never asked about my condition nor how much it cost to get sewn up. Pitts should be banned from breeding. My Golden, Summer, is just fine. She too, is my best friend. -
Harley touring versus venture
MasterGuns replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Why is there always posts on this site as well as many others about Ventures vs Harley; Honda vs Harley; Suzuki vs Harley; Triumph vs Harley and on and on and on. I've figured this out long ago. -
A Harley blue my Ventre away!!

If I want fast I take the VR; if I want style, great sound and fantastic tunes, I take the Ultra. Everyone should have one of each.:mo money: -
Removing carbs question
MasterGuns replied to jasonm.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jason, I have never removed the left side upper fairing when removing the carbs. The carbles can be disconnected by loosening the adjustments near the carb. The just lift them upward and out of the boots and then work them out to the right side of the bike. Sounds easy but one has to work at it but this is how I've done it forever. -
Was checking out a box full of "stuff" I've had sittin around for who knows how long and finally sorted through it for a bit. To my surprise I found a complete coil/ignitor (cdi) assembly. Short of installing the cdi box, how would one bench check this thing to find out if it is good? In this very large box is all kinds of other stuff, including a complete motor off an 86 VR. If anyone needs something let me know and I'll see if what you might be looking for is in this box of goodies.

Small knocking noise
MasterGuns replied to emtdouggood's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Don't know what oil you was using prior, but if it were me, I'd change back and see if the noise disappears. I know a lot of members here say Rotella is a good oil and it may be but I don't think it's formulated for small hi-reving motors and the trannies. My 2 cents. -

By golly, that is a great idea. I'm am now in the hunt for Christine; you know the Chrysler in the movie that repaired itself. Great looking "big" car; love those fins.. Behind it, I'd like to have in tow a panhead with a Honda 160 strapped on the rear of the panhead as a spare. In those days, there wasn't any small American m/c so a Honda 160 will have to suffice. I really am at work earning my bucks.

Your counter arguement can be used for any manufacturing today and is old and wornout. I work for one of the largest international shipping companies in the world (steamship) and know first hand what is imported and what is not. I see our ships leave US ports half full and arrive back without one empty container space at all. And in my opinion where this country stands today is just the beginning. But nevertheless, Ford, for whatever reason didn't take any of "your" money and that should be worth something to you. Go ahead and buy a Bamarolet, Bamachrylser. I'll stick with Ford and HD even though each has a portion of their parts manufactured overseas. If one wanted to purchase a totally made American product, they would most likely be in the market for, hummm, nothing comes to mind. Oh by the way, did I mention my really fun bike is an 86 VR. The only reason I have it is to show all my HD friends just how slow their stuff is. Then I return on my HD. Fun s&*^ to do. You should try it. But you know what, after serving Uncle Sam for over 30 years, fighting in two wars, deploying to Operation Restore Hope, and countless other excursions to every fillthy corner of this earth, I will do whatever it takes to standup for this country even if all I can do is purchase mostly American products, and VOTE these morons out of office. My wife drives a Nissan Altima 3.5SR. Good car; almost! BTW, I really don't mind silly crap being sent my way, I only have problems with rounds. Be good and vote.

Hey Jarhead; thanks for covering my six. Stay well. Semper Fi

DISMISSED!? You mean "P-a-a-a-a-rade REST". MARINES are dismissed only by GOD; and occasionally our old ladies. And BTW, I purchased a 2010 Mustang GT. I picked a Ford because Ford was and is the only American car manufacturer that didn't that any BO bailout money. My computer is custom made by Maverick Computers in Weatherford, Texas by Texans. And I use it to install various MAPS in to my HD's fuel regulater, also manufactured in the U.S. It's called a Power Commander. No rice here. O-o-o-o-o R-a-a-a-a-h-h-h
