  1. Kevin and Dan, That sounds like it might work. That's pretty early in the morning for me though. I'm a late night guy. Whe we drive 294 and 80/94 to Ft. Wayne we usually leave our house at 8am and have no problem with the traffic. Dan, you are closer in so maybe it's different there. IHtruckGuy -- when are you coming through? Anybody else??
  2. bump
  3. When my mileage was that low it was because one cylinder was not fireing. the coil wire had fallen off of that coil. If they changed plugs or messed with anything like that it could be the problem. That huge drop does not sound like "driving style" to me.
  4. Freebird's maintenance day in Oberlin Ohio on june 7. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=73&day=2008-06-07
  5. Anyone from around chicago going to Maintenance day? I am planning to leave the west suburbs Friday morning the 6th, and return sunday. So far my buddie Mel (Suzuki Boulevard)and I will be rideing together. He has to come home Sat night, so he will be looking for anyone comeing this way to ride with. We have a room at Days Inn Amherst Fri and Sat. Thought it might be nice to get a group together.
  6. All you have to do is list the vehicle and plate number on the web site. I have 2 transponders, all registered to all 3 of my vehicles. If you loan it to someone, just list their vehicle online. no big deal.
  7. I have an illinois I-Pass. I just put it in the pocket of my leather Hopnel tank cover. It works every time. I have heard that they will even work in the trunk, but I have not tried that yet. I suggest putting it where it is most convenient and going through a toll booth with the lights or gate, so you are sure that it worked. On the high speed lanes you have to check the website later to see if it worked. Also some people put them in a zipped or velcro pocket of their jacket.
  8. I just stuffed the rubber bushing back in between the fairing and bars. It doesn't sit on anything on the bottom, but it puts enough forward pressure on the fairing to hold it steady. Just shove them back in. It is pretty tight, but that is what holds them in.
  9. How long of a ride is it up to the days inn amherst? Is anyone staying there?
  10. I bought my 99' RSV on ebay last summer in Wash DC. rode it home 900 miles with 22 in the rear and 18 in front. I figured it out about a week later when I FINALLY got around to checking it. Same as you- I was so excited to get started home that I forgot to check it at the guys house, and then had no gauge on the way home. You are right, it handled terribly with low pressure. Mileage was very bad too. I replaced them both with Avon venoms this winter and I really like the ride. So I don't think you are stupid, just carelessly excited like I was!!!! I am glad we both are here to tell about it!! I live in Hanover Park, il (chicago burbs) Hope to meet you sometime!
  11. I put on the Baron's risers this winter. I just shoved the rubber stoppers in between the bars and the fairing real hard. They wedged in pretty tight and have not moved yet. (500 miles) There is nothing below them, but they stabilize the fairing nicely.
  12. I don't have anything that really needs done--but-- If anyone is adjusting/checking valves I would really like to learn/help. I am also interested in carb mixture adjustment. I can bring my carbtune along if you need another one there.
  13. I get 38-41 mpg U.S. on my 99 RSV. I run my tires at the max pressure on the sidewall. I rode one 900 mile trip when the bike was new to me with very low pressure in the tires (22 front 25 rear) (My fault that I didn't check them) The mileage was 23-28 mpg on the trip. I also found later that one cylinder was not firing due to a coil control wire that had fallen off. Both problems are now fixed, and yes, I did ruin my tires. It now has Avon's on it (This winter) and I am anxious to see the mileage now. It would be NICE if someone could come up with a solution to this interesting, and discourageing difference in mileage between bikes!
  14. "The great escape" almost.
  15. GREAT! FANTASTIC! COOL! AWESOME! CONGRATS! Obviously I am excited about you two having another V4. I loved my 1st gen and love my 2nd gen. These are the best motorcycles made IMHO! Like you say: Good on ya Brad! That is a good looking bike. I am still so appreciative of all the stuff you taught me at Russ's! I look forward to seeing you again soon, and finally meeting your bride. Enjoy the customeizing, and rideing.
  16. What time do the Tar Heels play on Monday????? Go Jayhawks!!! It will take everything they have left to win on monday, but it should be a great game.. I'm a transplanted Jayhawk boy, so what can I say??:whistling:
  17. I LOVE my RSV, but would be very interested in a new 3rd gen. The MT90 front tire fixes the handleing problem, and would be easy for them to fix. If they want to sell them then they have to MAKE them available!!!! Dealers do not have RSV's in the showroom. Harley and Honda have tons of them to see, sit on, ride, and buy. Yamaha has a fantastic product at a great competetive price, but seem to not want to sell any. If the dealers were as knowledgeable, and excited about Ventures as we are, they could take over the touring industry, if they had bikes to sell. Just venting my frustration-- Good luck with the focus group-- Thanks for spreading our ideas! I hope it works!!
  18. Don, I would like one also. Thanks,
  19. I, and a couple of buddies are seriously considering the Hoot this year. It would be my first time, but I hear good reports from friends. I can't avoid Illinois though! I do live relatively near the border, so it's easy to get out. (when the ice melts!)
  20. Maybe outstanding arrest warrants??:rotf:
  21. Congratulations Grampa!!!! My first will be 1 year old in 2 months. It gets more fun each day! Did you buy her a little helmet yet? How about a car seat?
  22. I am interested -- maybe 2 a blue /blue 1st gen and a silver 2nd gen. to be authentic the 1st gen would HAVE to be plastic!!:rotf: do I have to buy chrome to put on them?????:rotf:
  23. Looks like he beat me to it-- but I have the black tank/ignition cover if his falls through. Be happy to send it to ya.
  24. Hi all, I got my new Avon Venom's from southwestmoto. (What a nice guy to work with!) I found a dealer close to me - Schaumburg Honda/Suzuki. He charged $20 each to mount and computer balance. (with all of the rotors on) Did a nice job, same day service. I replaced the front stem with a 90 degree and had both stems pointed to the right side at a 45 degree angle. should be easier to check wit it on the side stand. ALL of the Yamaha dealers that I checked wanted between $40 and $75 each to do the same thing. (Includeing Chicago Cycle - 72.50 each) I read many posts - here and on Venturerider tech, and learned Oh so much from all of you people's knowledge! Thanks to you all. Good stuff! I also am greaseing everything up - includeing the pins- but could not find Royal Purple grease anywhere. I am useing a new valvoline synthetic moly wheel bearing grease. Good consistency - looks like it should work well. I have many other projects going and the bike looks like a skeleton. 59.99 Harbor freight jack/lift is working well.
  25. Oh Ya, Good thread Gary !!!!!! Thanks for the warm thoughts.
