Getting rid of some items from my '99
wkboard replied to Squidley's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
who knows--- maybe we can buy enough of your parts for you to buy one? -
I bought the same one from JIMBOB5's previous thread, and I like it very much. very bright and very easy to instal. took 10 min.(should have been 5 min. but I am slow!)
-
I carry peper spray in the tank bag. Never know when you need to stop a dog. mailmen carry it, so it must work.

Thanks for all of the info!!! I am out of town, so I will check close to me at some more dealers when I get home. I am planning to grease the shaft and splines with royal purple, check brakes, etc while the tires are off. I enjoy doing the work, and don't trust dealers(at least not the ones I have met so far) I already have ride on to put in, and was impressed with the ride when I put it in my 89'. Stardbog I will check closer to me, before Chicago Cycle, but I will be checking with them also, Thanks!

wkboard replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the pics!!! That's exactly what I was looking for. I will give it a try during this winter's PMMS. (parked motorcycle maintenance season) I am excited about trying this! -

Don, Mine is very hard to get off of the stand. Is there a way I can modify it to not go over quite so far? -

Current thinking on best oil filter
wkboard replied to Z Factor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Exactly! They are a little cheaper at http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/p02.htm and rick gives a discount to venturerider members. Then you can cross reference the fram filter # that comes with it. It is easier to install than the regular filter change, and then very easy after that. It avoids all of that oil all over the floor when you put the old housing on with the o-ring out of place. (don't ask how I know) -
Thanks for the replies! I will call some more dealers. We have a bunch of car tire shops around here. Can they be trusted with a bike rim?
-
I am just about to buy new tires for my 99'. The dealer wants $40 each to mount, balance, and new stems if I bring them in. (whether I buy them from him or not) How hard, or even possible is it to unmount and mount new tires on the rims. I have read about some of you buying machinery to do this -- but can it be done without the big tools. I don't have room for any more equiptment, but plan on removeing the wheels myself so I can grease everything, and do brakes. I am interested to hear from some of you that have hand mounted RSV tires before. Thanks,

Current thinking on best oil filter

Buy the RIVCO spin on oil filter adapter. It is worth every penny. Filter changes are so easy. No plastic has to be removed. -
Need a little help.
wkboard replied to SaltyDawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
While reading your post the first thing I thought of was fuel filter. Maybe something stuck in it that moved a little? Maybe not -- but my first thought. I like to periodically spray all of the switches with wd40 and move them a few times. It seems to clean up the contacts and keep out the moisture. It is not my idea, but someone on this site told me to do it when I had trouble with my 1st gen switches, and it worked well. (thanks, whoever it was!!) Good luck! I am interested to hear of your final diagnosis, when you figure it out. I am watching the ignition switch on my 99' closely since reading all the posts about them. -
Man, Sqid!!! You mashed it up pretty good. I am sooooo glad you two were not hurt any worse!!!!! That's scary. Actually it looks like it held together pretty well, considering the force that it looks like it hit with. I hope the insurance works out for you --- but I am glad you could both walk away!!! If you plan to rebuild her -- let me know when the work day is and I will be there to help.

I use the purolator Pure One filters. about 6$ and IMHO as good as mobil one filters. I also like the Shell Rotella T 15w40 dyno oil in my 2nd gen. -
Good Story!! It shares what is hard to explain. It explains the bond on this site, as well. "Regular" people just don't understand. Thanks!!

I am so glad you guys are okay!!! Anything I can do to help, I'm in. When you are all recovered and need a work day on whatever bike you get, let me know and I will drive up to help. Stardbog was telling me about the new '07 at Chicago Cycle for 12,900. I bet some people on this site have some accesories to put on it for you. Anyway first things first-- get well, take it easy, and please let me/us know if there is anything- no matter how silly- that we can do for you two!!!!

I would recommend the Stebel Nautilus air horn and the bracket for it from Carbon One. It fits perfectly, is easy to install, and is VERY loud. I like mine alot! (and it comes with the relay)

I had a GREAT time!! Dan did a fantastic job! Nice prizes. It was very nice to meet new friends and see some again. Too bad on the weather, but I think Dan has some prizes left, so we maybe can talk him into not waiting until next year for the next one??? Sure wanted to ride today, but -- "wouldn't be prudent":rotf:(whatever that means) Just a couple of pics...
