  1. Thanks Denden! I appreciate your comments. I will look into a carbtune. Looks like the most potential next step. Alan..
  2. Ive been reading a bunch of great posts, but, they give me more questions. Do you have to pull the tank to check the diaphrams on the 2gen? can I adjust the mixture screws (21/4 turns?) with the tank on? and should I since I don't have a carbtune tool? I am sure I have more, but that's what I can think of now. Wish I could have gone to FT. Collins to ask these in person. Always good when someone shows me where to do the ajustin.
  3. Thanks for the ideas!!! Plugs are less than 1000 miles, new k&n air filters, dont know on wires and caps, but no intercom noise. Used seafoam as you sugested on 2 tanks, about 5 tanks ago. Good ideas though, gets me thinking. I'l try more seafoam right away and work on the sync.
  4. I just rode my buddies 03 RSV, and his has much better acceleration and much better gas mileage. Mine is 99' RSV. Any ideas on where to look first?? I appreciate all of you members with all of your good advice and experience!! I have not synced the carbs yet. could that be it? It has 48000 miles and I don't know if the valves have been checked or not. It rides good now, but seems like it should be better. I am getting around 25-30 mpg. He is getting 35-39 mpg. thanks, Alan..
  5. I put the center stand from Don on my 99 RSV, added the leveling links and now the rear tire has about 1/8 to 1/4 inch clearance from the ground. the rear tire will turn freely when on the stand. I don't know if that helps, or is normal, but that is what I found. Alan..
  6. well now I'm not laughing as much--I have an RSV-- so how is the Eck mod coming. I will be needing it soon. Did it work? Any pics? It actualy sounds like a very good idea. Alan..
  7. I would like to buy one of your spacers. I live in Hanover Park, il. Could I pick one up sometime? How much are they? The classified is not there anymore. Alan..
  8. Thanks davidr!! That looks like something I might be interested in soon. Alan..
  9. If you do it and post picture do we have to call it "the ECK Mod"?:rotf::rotf:
  10. There was a day when I thought I could do that, but it is long past!! I now know that I could never do that in reality- only in my mind. Would be cool to meet someone who could though???
  11. just pick up the bike and tip it upside down and shake it out!!:rotf: Sorry I couldn't resist!! At least it wont rattle.
  12. OK, I'm getting closer. I got an SWR meter from my father in law. (heathkit HM-102) It's been so long since he used it that he can't remember how to calibrate it. All of the swr meters that I have ever used have a "TEST" mark on the meter. This one does not. (Did I mention there is no manual for it) I have looked on the Net and all I can find is a reference to setting it to the null. I don't know how to do that. If I can't even calibrate the meter, then I can't believe my readings. I'm trying not to be frustrated, but getting close. Anyone know anything about this?? Thanks, Alan..
  13. Thanks BOO!! Thanks Hugbare!!
  14. I e-mailed the guy that did the Marshall Mod. (from mthe Delphi link) He responded that they had indeed used 2' antennas on one of the test bikes and it worked very well. He also sugested that I stay away from the other brands, as the firestiks blew them all away in the tests. I am now contemplating (HUH: to big of a word:rotf: ) fixin to get me a 2 footer and try it out. Boo: I have seen several other wire antennas in my search. most of the base loaded ones come with a spring mount of some kind, but probably could be modified? I really didn't pay them to much atten. cause I like the fiberglass. Alan..
  15. Thanks guys, Everything works fine, the splitter/matcher/duplexer thingy is good, but the antenna is intermittent. the base is also very loose. (the plastic part of antenna) Any way I think all is well except I can't decide if I want the 3' or 2' antenna. I actally want the 2' but I'm not sure if it will work. I think it will look good. The marshall mod writeup on Delphi Forums talks only about the 3'. I like the fiberglass look better than the oem, and the new ones are only about 20 bucks! It will require a new base and connector and foldover fitting so I don't know what the total will be, but it should'nt be to bad.
  16. Have any of you replaced your antenna with a 2' antenna? I have studied the Marshal Mod and don't know why a 2' top loaded antenna would not work. I have an 89' VR with a single antenna. I will be interested to hear your experiences. Even 2nd gens, because the cb part works the same, just no splitter. Thanks, Alan..
  17. Jockey thanks for asking! Goose thanks for answering! I was wondering the very same thing. I think I can do that tire change thing myself. So far the Yamaha Mechs that I have talked to do not know anything about a VR. I hope I find a good Mechanic some day, or just keep learning from all of you!!! Thanks, Alan..
  18. Thanks Don, This is a very helpful program!!
