  1. Just purchased a sidecar for our 2000 Venture. Had to put on a damper to stop the wobble. Steers like a truck now without power steering. Has anyone put a sidecar on their Venture and experienced serve wobble? Looking for suggestions, advice, etc. Thanks, Bill
  2. Just ran across this on cruisercustomizing.com in the members section. Just wondering if he's member here? 2008 BLACKCHERRY/BLACK Royal Star Venture. Lives in Midland Tx. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/memberdetail.cfm?user_ID=911933

    Back Again

Apologize for not posting this sooner, but I'm finally starting to feel like my old self again after the accident. I do want to thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes after the accident:) sure is nice to know caring people still exist everywhere. I do have a partial settlement from the other drivers insurance company, their property damage adjuster is giving me almost 100% of what I had paid for my 07 RSTD, the service mgr at the local yamaha dealer convinced him to use NADA blue book, so I owe him a great big thanks too. On the other hand their medical/injury adjuster is being a complete jerk, but should be able to get this issue settled within the next couple of months. I'm going to test ride the new venture when the local dealer gets theirs in and have some questions, I had been riding a RSTD for several years, how much difference is there in the "top heaviness" between the venture and the rstd, I know that's subjective, but just trying to get an idea from those that have ridden both. If I go back to the rstd, how difficult is it to add either a yamaha trunk or HD trunk to the bike, I do plan on removing the passenger pillion again. Sorry for the long post, can't wait to get back on a bike again. Thanks JT
  4. Took the day off yesterday to do some riding and to work on my sanity. It worked! As I rode around I decided I would check out some of the local bike shops to look at other bikes and in the process I managed to see three that I have only seen in photos or from afar. First stop was at a Triumph motorcycle dealer where they had quite a few reproductions (what they call their modern classics) of their old product line as well as many of the newer bikes in stock. The Triumph Tiger and the Rocket Classic (2 different versions) both caught my eye. Would love to test drive both and may do that next Spring. Dealer was very friendly and told me that if I wanted a test drive to come on back. I could see the Tiger as a nice second bike for commuting to work with and something to take out onto the rural roads to play with. I've already test drove a VStrom 650 and would like to try the bigger Strom and do a comparision to the Tiger. In terms of the Tiger vs the Rocket, I think I would be more interested in the Tiger over the Rocket as I already have two big bikes already with my Wing and Venture. The Rocket has no rear trunk option, just side bags, and the floor boards look skimpy (on some models you just get pegs)...but I would love to test drive the Rocket just to see how it handles. An 2.3 liter inline 3 cyclinder...man that is different...would love to see how it handles. The bike itself is lighter than the Venture and Wing, I think it's a little over 600 lbs. and when you sit on it the seat is big and comfortable and well balanced. It does sit lower to the ground than both the Wing and Venture however. Next stop was to a couple of Yamaha dealers to see if I could get a peek at the new Raider. No way...won't be in for a few months according to the sales force. I did however finally get to see a Blue and Black Venture up close and personal. What a great color, and I loved the speckled dash with that color combination. Also saw a Kawasaki Concours out on the floor. What a sharp looking bike, but for me, 6'...240...that would have to be a solo option only. When I sat on the bike I knew right away that something would have to be done to change the handlebar situation for me. Of all the bikes I would want, I think the Concours as a second bike would have to be at the top of my own list, and it would mean that either the Venture or Goldwing would have to go. But then when I left the dealership I quickly realized as I climbed on my Wing that I already own the bigger version of the Concours which I rode home. Later... I also saw a tricked out
  5. Does anyone have any thoughts or insights on Yamahas marketing (Or lack thereof) of the Venture? When my wife and I were looking for a touring bike we looked at Wings, HD's and BMW. I read reviews in various riding magazines. Not a mention of the RSV anywhere. I see ads for the all the other players but zilch on RSV. I do see V Star ads here and there. I have had several people see my 07 RSV and ask me what it was. Experienced riders (though admitedly not the touring type) have seen the Venture on the tank and asked me who makes it. We went into the local dealer of all things two wheeled to buy a set of tires for my Suzi and saw the RSV hiding in the corner of the showroom. We love this ride and wonder why Yamaha doesn't want to tell anyone about it.
  6. First of all, this was the first delivery on the subscription I won as a door prize at Vogal. I have seen a few editions before, but they are a little hard to find. As soon as I opened it up and looked at the reader's response section, there is a picture of a black 2nd gen Venture. An Alvin Mullen, from Jacksonville, FL was taking issue with a comment from an earlier issue about "There finally being an alternative to the Wing, LT and Electro Glide in the new Victory". He stated after two years of test rides on all these that he found the Yamaha Royale Star Venture to be the most comfortable and the best value. Does anyone know this guy? The editor's response was that in his original draft he had mentioned the Venture, but thru edits and re-writes, that the Venture comment had been left out. The editor also noted that they do have plans for doing some touring on a Venture in the future and will report their findings. The next great part was that North Georgia and south western North Carolina was featured, with a specific article on Helen, GA. For those of you that did not make Vogal this year, that is near by and part of the usual rides. They also showed a picture of Bridal Veil Falls near Highlands on 64 with a bike sitting behind the falls. Even though this magazine is not cheap, the quality of the printing, articles and detailed maps is very good. Just wanted to share this with you. RandyA
  7. Hello everyone. Just purchased a 99 Venture on Sat Oct. 20th with only 2,500 miles from the original owner. Yes that is the correct mileage. It is Bordeaux Red / Silver. It is replacing my first motorcycle, a 1993 Suzuki Intruder 1400 (I refer to as the poor man's Harley). I have been looking for a Venture for a while and the price and condition was right on this one. The ride is unbelievable and I look forward to clocking many of miles. Hope to see some of you guys around. P.S. If anyone is interested in a Suzuki Intruder 1400, I have one for sale.
  8. This one is too close to home and a good price not to look at it seriously. Given that it's sat for a while, what do you recommend having to do before trying to fire it up? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6718&viewitem=&item=120173317213&_trksid=p3907.m29 If anyone else here is already bidding on this, let me know - I won't fight you for it. Dave
  9. It is about time that I have to think about replacing our headsets. I've been using AirRiders for several years now and though they are OK, they are no better than a basic or mid level J&M headset. So, I started looking and trying to decide what to replace them with. I have seen several people mention the Starcom headsets and was thinking about giving them a try. I have to say though, they may be a good headset but the company is not easy to deal with. They don't seem to know their products very well. The first thing I did was contact them to find out if they have dealers in the USA for their standalone headsets. They sent me a list of dealers and websites and the vast majority of the sites were invalide (page not found) or going to the sites that did work did NOT list the stand alone headsets. I let them know about that and then they told me that they DO sell direct from the UK but that they don't make a standalone headset for the Venture, only for the Goldwing. Now the last time I checked, the Goldwing and Venture use the same headsets and cables. That may have changed with the 1800 Wing, I'm not sure about that. I emailed them back and told them that they were probably turning away business by not knowing that the Venture would use the same headsets as the Goldwing. The response was that I should contact sales@starcom1.com to suggest the development of a new product. NEW PRODUCT??? They HAVE a product and don't know it. That is what I was trying to tell them. Bottom line, they just don't seem to know the application of their own products and I'm tired of going in circles with them. Will probably go back to J&M this time. OH...and one of the initial emails told me that they have worked with clubs to offer discounts. When I emailed back asking about the discount for clubs, I never got a reply.
  10. Is there a difference between the Midnight Venture and the regular Venture, other than color? I am looking at a new 2006 Midnight Venture.
  11. Some of the 99's are almost 9 years old now. Does the 2nd gen Venture ever develop the oil leak at the stator wires that the 1st gen does?
  12. Test drove one today, loved it. Whats everyone think of them. Will keep venture, spyder will get its share of use.
  13. i'm new to the Venture world so please be patient. i just bought an 87 venture 1300 that had been sitting for years. it only has 8500 miles on it. the guy i bought it from said he had the local yamaha shop replace the fork oil. however, the slightest curb or difference in the road seems to bottom out the front forks. what do you all suggest? so far i love my venture!!

  15. We're getting excited about our next purchase, that most likely being a Venture or a Tour Deluxe. We're interested in knowing how many here are on their second Star Cruiser style, and/or those on their second Venture, or those who traded up to the Venture, or down to the cruiser. We don't give a rat's ass about the chirp or other known traits of these motorcycles. We're kinda almost sold 100% on the V-4; but which style: Full boat with all the bells and whistles, or enjoy life a little longer in cruiserville. Oh yeah, hopefully we'll be able to test ride both this weekend in Daytona.
  16. Hey guys, I need more light on the back of the Venture. Do they make a spoiler with a light on it and how hard is it to install. I'd like to stiffen-up that flimsy trunk lid while I'm at it. I love the bike, it just doesn't put out enough light for safety's sake. Eddie
  17. Can anyone advise on a good place to put some xtra running lights on an 06 midnight venture?
  18. When I push on the start button of my 1990 Yamaha Venture I usually hear "click" and nothing else. Most of the time the engine will start after I push the start button two or three times. Do you have any idea of what the problem may be? (The battery seems good.) Thanks. Maurice.
  19. Came across an '06 RSTD with 800Kms on it yesterday. Dealer was asking $12,500. They also had a new ('07) Midnight Venture with price of $20,488. How do these prices stack up against those south of the 49th?
  20. I'm looking to improve the radio sound on my 92 Venture, any suggestions on a good sounding set of speakers the will not break the bank?
  21. Where can I find a valve assembly for the suspension on my 86 Venture Royale?
  22. My 1983 venture overheats and I cant find out why. I have replaced the thermostat, water pump and the radiator cap. The fan comes on and runs the correct rotation and at the right temp. No mater what I do it I cant find out what is causing this and I have taken in to the repair shop and they don't know why it is doing this either. I let the bike sit for about five years but when I decided to ride it again I took it into the shop and had the carbs serviced and what ever else it needed. Hope someone can help me out with something elese to try
  23. Can someone tell me what the NON YAMAHA number would be for the steering head bearings in an 84 Venture?
  24. i found a 2007 venture black/blue out the door for 14380.00 no tax or tags because i'm out of state, looks like i good price.i'm going to follow threw see if it's for real.
  25. Does anyone know if you can install an windshield bag on a Yamaha midnight Venture ... or is the space between the dashboard and the Windshield to small. I like to have something like this . http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/22001121/Images/3/WS21.jpg
