  1. I found this accent bar for the trunk on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-VENTURE-XVZ13D-1300-ROYALE-TRUNK-ACCENT-BAR-/170613579057?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b95c9d31 I don't know if it will fit my '85. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thomas
  2. I took the trunk off. Now I need to know what bracket I need to mount for a sissy bar and small luggage rack..........The motor handles better without the wind catcher behind me.
  3. My trunk is busted up pretty bad from stress cracks and I need a new one. The PO tried repairs with something that looks like JB Weld and did a bad job. Pieces gone, etc. Anybody use an aftermarket one? Which one? Which ones do I avoid? I see a bunch on them on eBay and I am open to suggestions. I'm sure I'm not the first to ask about this but haven't found a thread so far. Thanks for helping the newbie.
  4. If any of you guys feel like I do that the trunk support on the Wing is a little flimsy and or noticed the rubbing around the edge of lower trunk I found the cure.I am not advertising for this guy as he runs his business out of his home in Austin,Texas. If you, Don, or moderators feel it is pushing this product please remove post. I called this guy and thats when I found out he lives in Austin as I was going to order a set. He told me why dont I come over and he will Install it for free so Hey,Thats a deal and I did it. Let me tell you the trunk is solid as a rock now and I noticed coming home the rub sound was no more. I am very pleased and that is the only reason I am putting this here..It is a good product,Hands Down! I hope this helps you other Wingers out,Tom http://www.wingriderproducts.com/index.html
  5. Hello everyone: I have a project I'm working on. I am trying to put an 87 trunk onto my 84. The color matches and I have almost all the 85 hardware to make it work. The only things I need are the two pieces of steel that hold the trunk to the locks on the rack. If anyone has an 85 trunk that is broken or in bad shape and would be willing to part with some of the hardware I'd be extremely happy.
  6. You guys might just want to pull your trunk and check the mounting bolt holes on the chrome trunk frame. When Squid and I pulled my damaged trunk off this past weekend we discovered that the FRONT mounting bolt hole plates on my trunk frame were cracked... and it appears the only thing keeping things together was the chrome plating...and yes the stress cracks were clearly visible through the chrome too. From the response I got from my Dealer this morning I don't hold much hope of Yammi eating the $500+ bill to replace the chromed trunk frame....And yes, the Service Manager was NOT surprised to see the damage on the trunk frame... and that tells me that this may be a trunk frame defect that Yammi is fully aware of.....And the typical response from Yammi it seems is that they attribute the failure to the customer "overloading" the trunk with weight. My Yammi Dealer took a complete set of good pics of the trunk rack both top/bottom and is going to submit a request for Warranty replacement at no cost to me. Note to Squid: If this goes through I will get the NEW trunk rack to you Bro!! Boomer....With regards and respect to all.
  7. The inside 2 rear trunk hold-down bolts recently broke right through the trunk base on my 06 Midnight Venture. Looking things over revealed that my trunk does NOT have the re-inforcing kit which Yammi has for this design flaw. Here's what I did to fix the problem. A trip to NAPA to pick up 2 large flat washers with 18mm holes in the center of the washers....a Plastic weld product by VersaChem called PLASTIC WELDER....rough grit emery cloth. Procedure: 1) Roughen up the ABS with the emery cloth where you intend to use the Plastic Weld. 2) Shoot Plastic Welder directly onto the area of use...mix quickly and spread over area of repair. 3) Imbed flat washer on top of Plastic Welder being careful to center the hole in washer directly over the screw mounting hole on trunk hold-down chrome frame. Allow this to set-up overnight for full strength of Plastic Weld to form. (Product sets-up in 15 minutes if needed for quick roadside repair) The next day.....Use remaining Plastic Weld to COVER the flat washers (Do NOT cover the washer holes!!) and trunk area in a 3"x 3" area. Allow this to set up for 24 hours. The next day.....Cut 2 pieces of leather from an old belt....Punch out a hole in the center of each piece of leather large enough to allow the trunk mounting bolt to go through easily. Install each piece of leather between the trunk underside and the top of the bolt-holdown nut. Install a 17mm bolt and snug down everything. For this I used 2 leftover bolts from my saddlebags...(I had these when I installed the improved trunk bolts with knobs last year) When all was done I then installed 2 NyLoc nuts on the trunk hold-down bolts and ran them up snug. This will prevent the hold-down bolts from vibrating loose again IMHO. Note: A Yammi Dealer is ordering me a NEW lower trunk as the bike is still under Warranty. I did this repair mainly for a temporary fix and to test this Plastic Welder product. So far so good on the repair!! The Plastic Welder is rated for 3500psi strength!! For anyone who has a Venture out-of-Warranty you might want to consider doing this to repair your trunk. Boomer.....who sez if ya sniff the fumes from this stuff it puts a pretty color to what yer looking at for about 5 minutes....but it don't give ya the munchies.
  8. I want to install a wing on my trunk. Does any one know where I can get one. I'm looking for one that has the brake light in it. I need it for a 2nd gen. Thanks, Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
  9. Installed my new custom seat and went out for a ride. Life is good! Then I went over a rough spot in the road and all of a sudden a loud noise and when I look in my rear view mirror....there's my trunk. Bouncing down the road like a freaking basketball! I know I had it latched good, but apparently I forgot to set the lock to 'locked'. Argh! So, does anybody know if MKII trunks are compatible with MKI bikes? There's one on eBay that's the right color, but it's an '87 and mines an '83. They look the same but just wanna make sure.
  10. Has anyone put the trunk off a Venture on a RSTD? I am thinking the full fairing off a Venture would be a little more difficult? I know, if I want a Venture buy one. I like the Red/Raven RSTD and don't think they make a Venture in that color combination. Thanks, Rick
  11. I put a set of Ponce gauges, oil pressure, water temp and tach, shortened my front forks by an inch , did the “Jason mod” on the vacuum ports at the base of each intake port, relocated the fuel filter, put a trickle charger plug on the battery, put spacers on the passing light bar and put in iridium spark plugs. Since I bought it last summer I have added Iso Grips, bag rails, spoiler with light on the trunk, RK mufflers, brake/tail light under trunk, fringe on the brake and clutch levers, All that is left is to get my seats reworked by Rick Butler. I think the mods will be done at least for a time.
  12. I have a 96 Royal Star with 16k miles on it and I reaaly wish it had a fairing and maybe a trunk. Does anyone know if I can add one and if so where I would find one?
  13. While on vacation this past September, we encountered lunchbag letdown in some of the hotels we stayed at in regards to internet usage. Or in other words, we had to pay for internet time, while anyone with a wi-fi set up was good to go...FREE. You've already gathered I am of Scottish descent. Sooooo, we decided that we should purchase a laptop for our next vacation, amongst other uses. Time to pick your brains a bit, as I am also a wee bit lazy as well What size laptop fits in the trunk of a second gen? Is the trunk the best place to carry it, or in a saddlebag better? I seem to remember Kregerdoodle mentioning that a 15" is all that would fit in the trunk....I think...it seems like a lifetime ago that we were in Texas. Any experience with this out there? Thanks gunk:Laugh:
  14. Hello to all, Am looking for the availability of saddlebag and trunk liners for my friend's 2007 Royal Star Venture. I saw posts (and sites) for TLC and Yamaha, then saw posts from the guy called Beer30, and want to see what he has available at this time, maybe some pictures of them, etc. I was not able to find a site for him, so I became a member so I could post (I ride an 85 BMW K100RT). If Beer30 reads this (and is still making liners) please let me know how I can contact you... Speaking of which: it's beer o'clock right now! Keep the shiny side up! John
  15. I removed the Trunk Mirror out of the trunk so I could fix the mirror hinges. In so doing the 4 mirror bolts dropped somewhere into the Back Rest. I was wonder if someone can point me to a thread as to how best to retrieve the Trunk Mirror Bolts. I searched for Trunk Mirror but found nothing very helpful.
  16. Well with a little help from Carbon one making the adapter plate we were able to get the trunk at least mounted to see what it looks like. I think it will look pretty good after trunk is painted to match. and the backrest and armrest are redone in black also a good cleanup of the chrome and mounting bracket. What do you all think?? The detachable backrest is straped to the back. Joe star4772 If anyone needs anything done I highly recommand Larry Carbon one He is just amazing. Attached Thumbnails
  17. Well went and picked up the trunk that I will put on my RSTD. I took backrest off and positioned the trunk on the back and cool. Once I get the rack installed and the trunk all painted to mach and the backrest and armrest and pockets done in Black material it will look great. It is a trunk off an aspencade with trunk rack, side rails and also rear lights built into the trunk. The lines of the trunk I think will look good with the sadle bag lines seems to all kind of blend in. Cant wait to get ur done. star4772 :)
  18. Hello everyone, I searched as suggested and read the two or three post on removing the trunk on the RSV and converting to the "Starglide". When I searched I was hoping there would be lots more info. My question is does anyone have any more input or suggestions/tips on this converseion. The basics on the trunk removel is stright forward enough but what I was looking for is any input/problem solving on what was done to fill the void (seats, back rest or luggage racks) also suggestions or alternatives to the antennas (brackets, etc). I also read the post on converting the antennas form two to one. Just didn't find anything on remounting locations or brackets to do this. Has anyone done a more indepth write up on this to include some pictures? Dennis

  20. I just got an MKII trunk delivered the other day. But I need the brackets that bolt the front of the trunk to the chrome mount. The ones I circled in red in the picture. Anybody have a couple they want to part with? I had also bought a mount assuming that it would be a simply bolt onto my MKI. But it doesn't. So I'm going to have to either modify the mount to fit my MKI, or modify the trunk to fit my MKI mount. The plus side to the later it that I might be able to take it on & off with a key like the MKI trunk. Who knows? Bill Oh ya! a couple of those pouches I circled in blue would be nice as well.
  21. On the MKII's trunk light, is it turned on with a mercury switch or is there a momentary switch that turns on the light when the trunk is opened? I noticed the brackets on the left hand side hinge that lead me to believe it would be a momentary switch. Would anybody happen to have an extra one they want to part with? Thanks, Bill
  22. I posted a classified but wanted to post here too...I met a person with a 99 RSV who is looking for a complete trunk with passenger backrest. Let me know if you might possibly be able to help him out. I will talk him into joining this group!
  23. My trunk broke again right behind the rear mounting bolts. I have patched this back together several times and apparently have not been successfull. Does any one have a 87 MK2 trunk laying around you don't need at least the lower half. I guess I just need to replace it. I thought I would ask before I start searching ebay again. I don't mind paying for the part and shipping. Color doesn't matter because i will have to repaint to match anyway.
  24. I'm going to add a trunk rack to my '07 but I have a couple of questions. I know I'll get opinions across the board but that's ok. Those that have had both, would you recommend the factory Star rack or one from a GL1500 GoldWing? I see that ChromeWorld and Drag Specialties (same part I believe) have a GL1500 rack for about 1/2 the price of the factory rack... Is the quality any good or will I be POed about rust later on? Or any other issue? Any advice or opinions will be helpful. I'd rather get the right one the first time. Thanks!
  25. I've been thinking about going with the MKII bags & trunk for my MKI. Anybody have all the goodies for the conversion at a reasonable price? I would also be needing a hitch. Right now I'm skimming through eBay and finding a few goodies. So far I'm up to about $500 without the trunk, trunk bracket, tail lights, and trim. I found a complete trunk that's the right color that would add another $250 O $300 to the total. I'm thinking it could be $1000 or more if I can find all the parts on eBay. You guys think that's reasonable? I would later turn around and sell all the old goodies to try and offset the price. That would help a bit. I'm not sure what they would all be worth though. Thanks, Bill
