  1. Hello........... I have had my new ride for about 3 days now, posted a question about bogging down and with the help a few of you was able to determine the diaphrams have some holes in them. I have them out. How does a person take the diaphram portion off of the slide? Where the diaphram hooks onto the slide there is what looks like a plastic washer on top and underneath. Does it unscrew? I can get it to twist a little but do not see it coming off very easily. Anybody have an idea how this is done? Thanks Bnkrbill
  2. The last couple days I've noticed that I can't go "back" to a forum... neither the mouse or the "alt back arrow" work under Netscape...??? I have to scroll to the top of the page and click on the directory tree. Strange that the "back button" works fine if I click on one of the "selected" member pictures at the top of the main forum... It works fine with IE but I tend to stay away from that...
  3. I don't care to read every thread so I personally would like to see a full tool bar on the bottom of the pages, allowing me to go "home" or the "forum list" without having to scroll back to the top. If there's enough interest and it is possible, could this be possible?
  4. I purchased one of the little bells to go on a bike and it has come apart up at the top. Nothing left but the wire and the little ringer part. Has anyone had this to happen. These little things were expensive if I remember. I haven't hit anything with it it just came apart. Are they warrantied?
  5. Was at the big motorcycle show yesterday and came across this... http://www.tent-trailer.com/ Made right here in British Columbia! Also got to check out the new Kaw Voyager. I gotta admit, I do like it although, as many of you have noticed, the plastics, especially the side bags, seemed quite flimsy. When the top lid was open, the entire bag would flex very easily and it seemed as though it wouldn't take much to break the bag. Sticker price was $20,989.00
  6. 06 ..1300venture midnight can you get seat that is lowerd to help with being to top heavy any ideas.. any buddy.. Ken..
  7. Apples and Wine Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they sometimes take the apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they'reamazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. Now Men.... Men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the living daylights out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.
  8. Well, I was in Woodland Park, CO a couple of weeks back getting my youngest nephew married off (I got to be the holder of the shotgun). While there, On top of seeing the sights, I shot ColoNavy a couple of PM's and did a little sight seeing. This of course involved seing a few of our favorite sights, primarily the summitt of Pike's Peak. We drove the Dodge up to the top. It was arond 9:00 AM up there when we pulled in. The air temp was 34 degrees according to my truck's computer. The chill index was 19. Nice, brisk wind blowing out of the south. We did our usual lookin' around the top, snappin' pictures as we went. Then we came back around to the sign by the summitt house, the one with the name of the mountain and the elevation. Now everyone has their picture taken in front of the sign, it's expected. I remembered that I just happened to have one of my tubas in the back of the truck, momma had the camera. I also happened to have a Kelly mouthpiece in the horn, it's made of Lexan, that means it won't stick to moist lips in freezing temps. So I grabbed the horn and hollered at the wife and this is the result. http://i38.tinypic.com/2072455.jpg
  9. I have seen some photos of the 2nd generation Ventures with HD saddlebag top rails istalled. Has anyone here done that? If so, which HD rails work on the Venture? I don't care for the rails that Yamaha sells as they do not look as good as the HD rails style does to me. Can anyone help me on this one? Thanks in advance.
  10. I've read a number of posts on the VR airbox but don't remember much on the square "stack" in the middle of the filter element. What's its purpose - mainly intake noise abatement perhaps? Has anybody removed or shortened it? Its top edge, stock, is between 1/2" and 3/4" from the underside of the filter element. Any results to report? I know the box is very sensitve to having the top on, and some people like to have some 1/2" holes in the top. But this stack looks like a "flow torture device" to me! Jeremy
  11. Does anybody know if on the '87 13DT VR on the right master cylinder (front brake) reservoir where the bolt that holds the chrome cover in place covering the reservoir(I think after market) or maybe where the mirror would screw in on the top side of the reservoir at the handle bar is reversed threaded? I have striped the allen insides out trying to turn, applied heat, cut deep slots in the top to try to grip and turned until blue in the face to no avail. Could it be reversed threaded?ffice:office" /> Thanks for any help!!!
  12. Videos of the ride from the Flying J to the Ronald McDonald House at St Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. If you don't like ZZ Top you might want to turn the volume down. 13. Make sure to latch and lock BOTH saddlebag cover latches. I left one latched but unlocked out of pure forgetfulness and guess what happened? On a very rough road close to home the lid flew off at 20-25 mph and slid down the road on its top of course. Now I have to get it repaired knowing if I had taken the extra minute or two to lock the latches, it wouldn't have happened. I always seem to learn from stupid mistakes
  14. I have finally found a good use for junk mail. Here is my recipe for a fire at the camp. 1. Equally spread a 2 inch layer of paper shredded credit card offers across the floor of stove. 2. Place a 2 inch layer of kindling wood on top 3. Now about 3 logs on top of that and close the door. 4. open the draft and air intakes wide open. 5. Touch here off with one match at base of intake. In two minutes you will have flames shooting out the top of chimney. Cut the draft back to half and close air to 1/3. Open a cold one and look for TV remote. 41 outside 83 inside.
  15. This web site may be of some interest. http://WWW.expertvillage.com If you search motorcycle (top right of screen) there are suppose to be 268 videos of all sort's pertaining to motorcycles. Keith
  16. After picking up my 85 Royale In May one of the first things I noticed was that the windshield had been scratched along the top edge. There was also a film on the inside of the windshield i'm assuming was some kind of anti-glare film. It was deteriorating and flaking off. The previous owner I believe tried to remove the film with some kind of abrassive and had scratched the windshield in a three inch area along the top edge, right in my line of vision. A new windshield was going to be my firest repalcement part and several members had already pointed me to several on E-bay for about $75.00. While at Wally world yesterday I noticed a product called QUIXX repair system Acrylic Scrtach Remover. Part of me didn't believe it would work because my winshield was pretty clouded but for @$9 bucks i figured it wasn't much of a loss. I got to worK on it right away and tested it on a small part of the clouded area. The stuff is white and creamy and just seemed to smear into the plexiglass. The instructions say to rub it in hard.At first I don't think I was rubbing it in hard enough so I added a little more and rubbed harder. It seemed to be clearing. I spent the next hour slowly and firmly rubbing in compound in circular motions and watching the clouding get clearer and clearer using several more small applications of additional compound. The stuff never completely blended into the windshield and disappeared so i went to my old stand by all purpose cleaner Pledge Clean and shine with Orange. When I got done wiping off the Pledge and the residual cleaner I was shocked ! The windshield looked like new. The cloudiness was gone. A few of the deeper scratchs could be seen at an angle in the sun light but the general abrasive area was cleared. On top of that after cleaning out the cloth that come withthe kit I started to wipe the inside of the shield where the flaky film was and the wet cloth with a bit of the compound still in it started to remove the film as well.Several hours of work and a $9.00 box of Quixx and the windshield looks like new. I'll try to get some pix up later today. I regret i didn't think to take some before shots. I really didn't expect it to work so well. Phil.
  17. Since the new format has been added to our CP file I'm finding that everyone is posting visitor messages anytime they want to get in touch with me, and since I don't visit my profile that much they don't get a response for some time. Besides that they are a PITA to get rid of, and the system won't allow a message to be completely deleted. Visitors are given a choice but the VM is the top selection and get's picked almost exclusively. The old PM worked just fine. Who thought up this thing anywho?? Talk about user unfriendly!!!!!!
  18. Ok, something isn't right, obviously. Replaced my front tire with a WWW Maxxis Classic, by myself with a buddy's help. That, went ok. However, when reinstalling the left caliper, the top bolt would not thread in properly all the way. May need to tap it out as it appears to be stripping a bit. So, had the bottom bolt in and the top in 3/4 of the way. The wheel was snug when rotated (on the jack) and you could hear the calipers rubbing, thought that was normal. However, I rode about 15 miles, brakes working fine but, the left caliper was VERY hot to the touch, as was the rotor. Obviously, I won't be riding more till I fix this. Is it just the bolt not being fully secured or, do I have something else wrong? Should the wheel spin freely while on jack or is some audible rubbing normal? Thanks.
  19. Took the time to put on saddle bag rails, both top and bottom. Thing is with everything i have read on here i was expecting problems. But for some reason everything matched right up , has a great line with the bottom of the bag. Hardes part of the whole job was making sure i mesured and drilled the holes for the top right, fighured if i messed that up i was in for a major problem. But all and all it is nice to know you can come here and find help with your problems. Just maybe someone from yamaha comes here and reads this stuff as well. Thank you all

  21. I've spent the evening searching the forum and find a bunch of talk about the forks bottoming out but nothing on them topping out. I have a 91 VR with stock fork springs and fresh seals. I added oil per the instructions (5.5" from collapsed top. I can't remember the weight of the oil. When we ride, with the air set to medium, the fork will top out at times and makes a "clunk" sound. It doesn't seem to cause a problem, just a worrisome sound. Any ideas? Thanks, Roger
  22. While browsing VR site this morning, Mean Dogs pic popped up in the pics at the top of the page, so I took that as a reminder to bring this back up to the top so others that havent visited the site might do so, and maybe even make a contribution to St. Jude in his honor. Mean Dog's Tribute
  23. Mounted a Stebel Nautilus today, the"chrome" one. I got to get it off my chest.....Everytime I purchase something made in Europe I feel cheated! Their concept of quality is sub-chinese!! How can yu call this thing chrome? It's made of cheap pot-metal sike aluminum and plastic. All the so called chrome is plastic. The greyish body of this thing isn't even fully covered with it. The cover looks like a tincan from the top! Good thing they gave two of those plastic covers, I used the back one to cover the top so I wouldn't annoy my wife with grumbling and mumbling every time I look at this thing! The one that Harbor freight sells BTW is made by the same company under a differen name - you can also find it at Pep Boys. For some reason I expected this thing to look better. Well, at least it is loud although the tone is a bit high for my taste. When it quits on me - as all Euro-crap soon does I think I will replace it with a set of trumpet type horns. OK,I feel better now.....
  24. I have an 07 RSV with 4500 miles on it I have not gotten in to the carbs because I don't want to risk voiding my warranty. I have fattened the PMS 1/4- 1/2 each and synced carb's. She pulls good off the line but if you are at about 1/8-1/3 throttle and you stab it in any gear above 2nd it will not accl. it does not fall on its face just not accl. No lean popping at all if you stay in it you start to smell very rich exhaust. so I know its either getting too much fuel (my theory) or in efficient combustion. My dealer can not find the problem. tells me that's now a XVZ13 runs BS!!! I have had this bike since 0.4 miles and now my top speed on a flat is 85-90 MPH up a pass 70 MPH. I have had the speedo buried before. Changing fuel makes no difference. tonight I am going to try some seafoam but don't have much hope it that as a cure. Any suggestions on a good tech/dealer in Seattle area. I am more than able to find and fix this issue. but you see I turn wrenches all day long, 5 days a week. I bought a Bike with a 5 year warranty. I did not buy a HD for a reason. My dealer reset carbs and said #2 pilot was plugged and #1 almost plugged (why did not that effect the idle and how does that effect top end throttle) I guess I need to go get re trained in carbs 101. The dealer by the way is RMC Motorsports. But the saga continues my dealer tells me that Yamaha will not cover carb issues and charges me $345.00 to tell me that my pilots are plugged and that that is how they run. Needless to say I will be contacting Yamaha customer service. I have stepped down from the soap box now thank you all for coming to hear me
  25. okay group i want to add another person to our committee. first i will tell you the pay stinks and it will be a voluntary thing. i need some one to put all the videos and pictures together that people take and donate to the cause on a dvd to music and edit them with some professionalism so we can make them available to the members that want to savor the memories of the meet. if you are artistic and good in this field let me know. i know alot of folks will be taking videos, and pictures. your cost to make the dvd's will be covered. when the members order them. do i have any volunteers? remember they have to be top of the line and the music has to fit the video. i know i'm being awful picky but. if you are familiar with the ones floyd made of previous meets you would understand why they need to be good. his were top of the line. bill
