My brother in Wisconsin is having trouble figuring out his 91 VR. He's paid up here but I have more time. He reported sluggish performance at speed. I had him run his bike cold for a minute and #3 didn't warm up. He pulled off his air box and diaphragm cover. The carbs looked clean, was probably cleaned by the dealer before he sold it, but he sprayed it down with carb cleaner anyway, and got it to spray up through the jets. He pulled the plug, grounded it against the case and reported seeing it spark. So he put it back together. It ran rougher than before, which sounded like a new air leak but he hasn't gone back to check. The plug wire on #3 had a cap that was pretty chewed up. He's thinking of replacing all the plug wires. I've suggested his next step is to get his ohm meter out to test resistances of his ignition circuit, but other than saying that I don't know how to do it. Any other diagnostic suggestions would be welcomed, as well as a pointer to resistance testing info. I've found a few scattered but not a definitive write up. Thanks! Tom

We are flying in to Phoenix during spring break....24th March until the 28th. Just a few days but we want to get an early summer like feeling. Vegas was nice but we want hot! Anyway, we were thinking of renting a car....who be the best? We will pick up at the airport and drive to Mesa and return it on the 28th. Thanks for the tips.

I'm thinking it would be fun to have the same engine as my VR in a different ride. Does anyone have any experience to report with these bikes? I'm thinking of an an older model, maybe even a 89 so they match.

Ya'll know me, and how I can't pass up a good buy. I ran across this auction with a '93 Verago that looks like it's in decent shape. Problem is it doesn't run due to no key. I think it was reposed?? Getting a new key cut and battery is not a problem, and I don't know if it's a 750 or 535?? I'm thinking of using it around town. Now the nitty gritty. I'm a pretty big boy. anyone here change the fork oil using the method by freebird?? how much of a pain was it and what kind of oil did you use ?? getting ready for spring maint. and been thinking this would be a good one to do. like i need more fluids to flush and fill...lol

Hello all!!! After much thought about what our next bike should be, we are really liking the idea of either a used Venture or Deluxe. Thinking 2004 - 2008 but will go pre-2004 if there is really not much difference in features, ride etc. Our thinking is to keep this bike for 3-5 years then get something brand new. Are there normal maintenance, wear and tear, recall type things for these bikes that I should be considering? As an example; value adjustments at 5,000, cable replacements, etc, etc. Would like to try and avoid picking something up then finding out it needs $1,000 in work. Thanks...

Greetings! I am starting preps to get the wife ready for Riding Season. My first big ride is going to be from Halifax down to Rolling Thunder, then points South. I don't think my '08 Venture has ever had a coolant flush, and I am thinking about all that slow riding in the parade and lots of stopping in the warm Wx. What is the easiest method to do it myself?

It got down to -9 F the other morning and today it snowed..... so off to Florida we go. We'll be leaving monday morning for 6 weeks in Orlando. Got a house sitter all lined up, tools loaded ( we do volunteer maintance work at YWAM.... Youth With A Mission). Stay warm everyone who live up here in this frozen tundra. I'll be thinking about you when I'm at the snow white beach in Sarasota one week from today. Also planning to go to the Daytona 500 and a Zillion Flea Markets.

I want to remove the carb from my 83 because the jets are plugged. I cant get the lines loose on it because its cold out, and i dont want to ruin any of the rubber hoses. Whats a good way to get the hoses off without tearing them? I was thinking about some penetrating oil, WD 40, or a hair drier. What are some suggestions that you guys have that could possibly help me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!! -CJ

It's a bit early in Wisconsin to be thinking about getting back out on the bike, but here I am trying to figure out what I can do to it, for it and with it. My question is this... What is the next best addition (or two ) I can make to my bike in the way of both performance and also safety chrome. Below is what I've done so far: Performance - K&N filters Road King exhaust (completely open) Re-jetted with larger jets and carbs balanced Elite 3 tires front and back Rick Butler Seat Mod Safety Chrome - Fender Chrome Saddle bag rails Saddle bag trim (top of bag) Passing lights Flanders bars Kuryakyn ISO grips Kuryakyn highway pegs I'm looking for the NEXT BIG THING. I love working on the bike and making it more interesting and fun and of course, my own. Any ideas would be great and pictures of your mods would be wonderful. Let's get those ideas out there and keep 'em coming. It's time we all start thinking about spending some money!!!

So, I finally got out to do an oil change on my Sear's mower since I put it away last month. Couldn't find the oil drain so I broke down and checked the owner's manual. Yikes!!! You have to remove the dipstick and then...get this...turn the mower over to get the oil to pour out the fill tube! Oh...and it says to move it around to get all the oil out! That may be fine with some people, but Arnold Whatsisname I am not. What kind of dipstick (Pun intentional, sorry!) would design a motor that way? Could you imagine having to flip your bike upside down to drain the oil? Or any other fluid? Of course, my Sear's snow blower has a drain tube. But...it's just short enough that it drains onto the edge of the drain pan unless you lift the front and hold it there till it's done! Geez!! What were they thinking? Or were they thinking? Oh well, it's done and I feel better after my rant. Next is the bike oil change (Two of them) since I've finally had to put them away...too much salt on the roads around here already. Andy

I just picked up a 99 Venture and need a new seat for it. Would anyone know what years of seats would be compatible with a 99? I'm thinking the 99 to 04 are interchangeable but I'm not sure. Cheers D.W.

85 and 86 brake pads not the same??? Thought I had set on hand but got to thinking. They won't fit 86. The 83 thru 85s are the same. Changes in 86. I better be grabbing a set. I've been using the brakes on "Brown Sugar" R1 Pads are the same? I have a used set so I'm good for emergencies. Or just quit using brake so much... What do you need to get for winter??? Oh yeah garage is on that list somewhere...

I have an ulcer on the bottom of my right foot and they are doing a procedure called a "graft" tomorrow afternoon. I am suppose to stay off my feet to help it heal. I asked the doctor how long I will stay out and he asked me how long do I want?!!? I'm sort of thinking 10 months would be too long to ask for so in a month or so I will return to work. I retire next August!!! Guess you will see a lot of me on the forum for the next month...

We have done Bike Week in 05, Biketoberfest in 2010 and are thinking about going again this October. In the past we have tried to connect with other VTX owners, which is what we were ridding then. We now have a 07 RSTS and would like to meet others with like bikes for swapping ideas, maintenance procedures and mod's. It was always difficult to get very many VTX's together at one time. I'm not sure why it was so difficult, I think many riders ride with their friends regardless of what they ride rather than a group of like brand bikes. Anyhow as time goes on and there is interest of getting together lets share cell numbers and where we all will be staying. Below is the evolution of what I have ridden since moving to Florida, 01 Shadow, 03 VTX 1800, back surgery, hip replacement, 06 Yamaha Majesty scooter, 04 HD 1200 Trike (I built and hated it), 03 VTX 1800 and now the 07 RSTD. Funny how our minds work, my wife got going on this thinking it would be a nice treat for me. Yesterday I asked her "so you are excited about going back to Daytona?" She answered me with "I thought it would be something you would really like to do". I told her I was thinking of some place new for a fall trip. Now we are thinking of going to the Upper Keys or Tarpon Springs area. Sorry if this was misleading to anyone.

Can anyone tell me how much travel should be in the pressure plate when working the clutch lever? Mine travels about 3/32nds of an inch but the clutch does not want to disengage, I'm thinking I might have air in the line but so far have not been able to bleed any out.

Question 1) I'm needing 1 Enricher/Choke for my MK2 and ebay has some but they came off an MK1. Are they the same and is $25.oo a reasonable price. Question 2) The outside tip broke off on mine (I purchased the VR that way). I was thinking of drilling a small hole and putting a brass screw so the choke would pull it out. Is that something that would be recommended? -
i was thinking about a magnetic tank bag. i was going to mount three plates of metal to the underside of my false tank cover. but then, got to thinking, i remounted the tci to the air box. will the magnets mess with it? any thoughts? has anyone tried this?

I have the royal start tour clasic which has the 4 exhaust pipes. I have been pndering trying to chage them out for the 2 pipes. one on each side. The reason I have been thinking about this is that my bags are pretty small in comparisson and would like to get larger hard bags. Any IDEARRRRRS!!! -
