  1. I found it today here on the outer banks,I was just getting off my bike when this bike rolled into the parking lot and pulled up behind me and parked. We talked for a few and He was a CMA member went by the name of hondog and was from NH.I took a couple of pics of this GL1000 looked about a 79 model and I don't know what to do now since the bike isn't for sale,it has lots of accesories just bolted or wired on with bailing wire it seemed to be one a kind.
  2. Don I didn't know how to delete thread. Found Progressives for 65 bucks but 15 bucks shipping is high for them. Posted thread before I looked at shipping. Don't know if I would pay that much. http://www.ebay.com/itm/83-93-YAMAHA-Venture-Royale-Progressive-Suspension-Front-Fork-Springs-Kit-/400267987146?hash=item5d31d4c8ca&item=400267987146&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
  3. Busy day and stopped at Micky Ds on the way home Must have had a dozen idiots pull outin front of me and all the rush of the season I was about done. Micky Ds had line I had to wait in for about 15 min. Was getting close to register when this little piece of fluff struts in the door followed by her larger than me escourt ape walking behing her. Jeans and shirt she had on were straining to hold things in. Yeah I looked!! Boyfriend or whatever took a seat and sent her to order. She took a look at the line bounce to the front of it and stepped in front of me as I was starting to order. I said Excuse me young lady but the end of the line is back there. She sputtered a little and went and reported thing to her feller. He came stomping up and stood staring at me trying to figure out what to say. At lest I think he could talk. I gave him a smile and said carefull young man you don't get more than you order. He looked at me several seconds turned and collected her and must have decided to eat somewhere else. Girl behind register was cracking up. Everyone in line was grinning I think. And here I stood thinking ' Old man you are lucky you didn't get your butt handed to you..... Warden chewed on me all the way home!!!!
  4. Been looking forward to the 3rd annual Anti-Snow day, but looks like it is not scheduled. Just looked and Thom has not been on the site since September. Anyone seen him? Hope he is OK!!!
  5. Anybody have any imput on this topic? Wife and I are contemplating building a new house. I know roughly what type of dollars we would be looking at for a stick built or even a redi built home moved to our farm. Today out of curiosity I stopped and looked at a few modular homes. I was rather impressed with what I saw, and some of the dollar figures impressed me even more. I can save alot of cash going this route. The mod would be put on a full basement just like the stick. Its obvious that there are things in the mod that arent as quality as the stick/redi built. So my question is, is it worth going with a mod for the savings? Or does it come back to bite you in the end? The stick we looked at is a very high quality home, kind of a cadillac I guess you could say. So id say the mod is more like a chevy. So am I fair to say both are good, and it is more like a chevy vs. a caddy?
  6. I've a 2008 RSV that I've owned since brand new. This weekend, I decided to clean the carbs per some great instructions on this site. The diaphrams on the right side of the carb banks looked fine. However, both of the left side diaphrams looked DEFORMED... While the left diaphrams dont have any holes in them, the center hole looks deformed (larger...maybe swollen), and doesnt fit the slide as well as the right-side diaphrams do. The left side air box-to-airfilter hose was completely disconnected as well (back to my theory on 16-year old "technicians")... I'm going to order two new diaphrams for the left side.... QUESTION: What would be some of the issues I would have if the diaphrams were bad? Lower MPG...less vacuum...no power in 5th gear... I defer the to the wealth of knowledge on this site! Thanks!
  7. If you are like me you are always curious what happens to our bikes when we sell or trade them. We I got a Face Book request to be friends with the sales person that handled the trade of our 04 VTX 1800 C on an 07 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe (second week of August 2011). I have post pictures of what they looked like when traded/bought and what the VTX looks like now. The van, driven by a person under the influence of drugs and booze hit the mail box about a quarter mile up the road when the van first left the road. The next thing it hit was our old VTX plowing other bikes and quads our of the way. Far as I know nobody was on or looking at any of the bikes or ATV's. I'm sure the X is totaled being an 04, but it was an 11k bike that looked as good on the bottom as it looked on top, the dealer had it listed as "MINT". BTW the only reason for trading is the Yamaha has air ride, electronic cruise control, factory hard bags and quick release sissy bar and windshield.
  8. Here are some new pics I took earlier today, was wanting to see how the trialer looked behind the trike.I am satisfied Jerry M
  9. I have decided on a third wheel and have always liked the idea of a sidecar. Who still use one and what options for manufacturers do I have. I already have looked at Hannigan and Texas Sidecar. I am confused with Motorvations options list but will contact them soon.
  10. Is it normal for the chrome to go south on these tips? When I was in the bike buying process I looked at two different bikes with less than 10k on them, one had bought spares already to replace the ones on his bike and the second bike had flaky chrome tips. I bought a bike with 20k and the tips looked great until I went to turn the tips the other day and realized the bottom side had flaky chrome. So as I asked is this normal or is there some way to protect them. I was thinking of taking them off and sanding the chrome off and painting them with heat resistant crinkle black paint. I have also found new on ebay for $69. Talk to me boys and girls.
  11. Little Buddy have you been out shopping ? have you been looking ? Was you test driving ? A new Scoot ? kind of looked like you !!! all packed up and now where ya headed eh? Dray
  12. OK.. with the Hannigan conversion you loose the helmet locks that were mounted under the top trunk. What's everyone doing with their helmets when your fully loaded down? I had to replace my helmet from the accident last year and the new version is slightly higher on the top and will no longer fit in the top trunk either. I looked at a couple of other lock mounting systems but curious what everyone has found to work for them. pa_don
  13. Hi, in a few of the Threads ive wrote a few members asked to see the Ride . It was a bit dark before i got the camara out but it looked kinda cool?
  14. OK I am wondering what I did or maybe there isn't really any difference. I changed the plugs today in my 2000 venture and the Clymers manual said they took a NGK DPR7EA-9 When I got the old ones out and the new ones in I was cleaning things up and happened to look at the old plugs, which by the way looked new after 12,000 miles anyway the ones I took out where NGK DPR8EA-9 Anyone know what the difference is? Is one hotter than the other? Just wandering Thanks Gentleman.

    Exhaust

I want to replace the exhuast on my 1983 Venture. I have looked on ebay and have not found what I am looking for. Where can I find aftermarket exhausts
  16. I was sitting in the living room yesterday and noticed that it seemed unusually hot. Looked at my thermostat and it had gotten up to 83 in the house. A/C showed to be running but I looked outside and saw that the fan was not running on the outside unit. So....A/C is down. Did what checks I could do but didn't find the problem. Finally called the repair folks and they are supposed to be here this morning. It did cool off to 81 by this morning. Could have been worse I guess. Temps yesterday were in the 97 range with 50% humidity. Now to see what it is going to cost to fix this thing.
  17. well today i was heading down to peoria IL on I 39 when this awesome black and gold yamaha venture passed me then went on toward bloomington /normal now i never saw a black and gold one before did they come out in that color? im thinking a mkII? as the bags looked larger at least what i could see of the bike that sucker was hauling arse. i was doing 80mph in the car at the time but i got a fair look at it when it pulled of and onto the exit toward bloomington/normal looked like AZ plates maybe ? anyways just wanted to say if it was you that is one nice looking bike.
  18. Hello Everyone: Several months ago I offered overnight lodging for anyone stopping in Western Nebraska on their way out to the Cody rally. "Tom" and Debby indicated they might take me up on my offer for Friday night July 22nd. I swear someone else replied to me about Saturday July 23rd, but damn if I can remember who it was? (Getting old I guess?) I looked through all of my past PM messages and cannot find anything. If someone reads this post and has made plans to stop in Scottsbluff, Ne on the way to Cody please contact me and jog my memory. Thanks in advance.
  19. FINALLY...THE BLONDE JOKE TO END ALL BLONDE JOKES! A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little redsports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer, who was also a blonde. The blonde cop asked to see the blonde driver's license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively moreagitated. 'What does it look like?' she finally asked. The policewoman replied, 'It's square and it has your picture on it.' The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and handed it to the policewoman. 'Here it is,' she said. The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, "OK, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop.
  20. Ok well I got into the rear of my 83. Everything looked pretty good. Had a buddy blast off the paint around the welds and no cracks. One weird part was when I took the covers off the swing-arm there were grease zerts there, thought in 83 they did not have them. The crossmember that the shock mounts to is very heavy with gussets in place, has it already been modified and strengthened? Another question is how much grease do you need to pump into the drive shaft grease zert? Everything looked really good so I will be putting it back together pretty much as is and just putting new bearings in the rear wheel. I will also have the rear rebalanced. Shaun
  21. i heard a horn beep in my driveway, and looked out and saw this white haired guy in a cool sports car. i thought it was a salesman of some sort. it was my good buddy la pryor. he drove all the way from springfield to visit. he looked great and was his same old wildhair. we had a few beers and chatted for several hours. he is planning on attending don's md and eureka springs. he will be caging it cuz he said he's not ready to ride just yet. he said he hasn't been on the site to much cuz he is down in the dumps not being able to travel and see all his friends. it was great to see him and made my day. :clap2:
  22. The difficulty separating the plugs was overcome by using WD40 and all the CMU wire connectors looked good but I sprayed them with electrical cleaner anyway. I now have the LCD display out of the CMU. Could a blown fuse be the cause of no LCD display? The warning light is the only thing that lights up when the ignition is on. Looked at this thread on the CMU removal and soldering on a MK1: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33328 Hopefully it is the same as doing it on a MK2. Is it the strips indicated that need to be soldered or the connections (bumps)?
  23. http://www.sarasotatrailers.com/uploads/Siesta%20Full%20Page(2).pdf Has anyone looked at one of these in person? It's caught my interest enough that I'm almost ready to pull the trigger...
  24. Man we need some rain....looked at the Rain gauge today and this is what I saw...
