  1. Anybody use these on their 1st gens? How do/did you like them? Pros? cons? I'm gonna be needing some new pads soon and was just thinking about all the different kinds that are available and thought maybe these would be a nice upgrade from the OEM/organics or even maybe the semi metallic pads. Sooner or later I plan on doing the SS brake line upgrade, but until then I figured better pads would do. I really have no problem with the brake system as it is now, but any improvement would be a good thing. Bill
  2. Anyone know what the plastic thing is call at the end of a guy line? It is oval or rectangular w/ 2 holes in it that you feed the guy line through. Yes I know it is not necessary to create a loop to tie a stake to, but just wanting to know what it is called.
  3. Everybody on earth dies and goes to heaven. God comes and says, "I want the men to make two lines. One line for the men that dominated their women on earth and the other line for the men that were dominated by their women. Also, I want all the w...omen to go with St. Peter." With that said and done, the next time God looked, the women are gone and there are two lines. The line of the men that were dominated by their women was 100 miles long, and in the line of men that dominated their women, there was only one man. God got mad and said, "You men should be ashamed of yourselves. I created, you in my image and you were all whipped by your mates. Look at the only, one of my sons that stood up and made me proud. Learn from him! Tell them my son, how did you manage to be the only one in this line?" And the man replied, "I don't know, my wife told me to stand here."
  4. skydoc told me about changing my forks to next gen so i can add r1 calipers and bigger rotors. has anyone done this? i would like to see some pics and write up. right now , my forks bottom out, the air line is missing, and brakes are weak at best. i was considering just doing the whole "shabang".
  5. I sold out of the group buy fork braces late last year, but lately a few members have expressed interest in more... so I just ordered another 10 braces and they should be shipped out this Friday. If anyone is interested go to FORK BRACES for pricing and pics. For those newer members that aren't sure what an improved brace will do, they make the forks works together, improving straight line stopping, rough roads, and making it easier to hold a line when cornering. One of the best bang for the buck improvements you can install on your bike. Condor
  6. Does anyone know of a crossover air line that can be connected to the front forks to add or release air to BOTH forks at the same time? Given the relatively low air pressure, it seems difficult to balance the air pressure in the forks separately. My old Virago had such a crossover air line and just one air valve for the front forks. Thanks, Steve
  7. I sync'd my carbs and just for grins before I put the pressure sensor line back on the left front cylinder, I grabbed my vaccum pump, connected it to the hose, and tried to pump a vaccum. I've got a leak in this line or the sensor itself. Does anybody know where the sensor is (89 Royale)? The logical place is next to the TCI unit, but that's just a guess and it'd be nice to know where it is before I start taking more apart. Frank D.
  8. Been talkin to a mechanic friend of mine that owns a Stihl/Gravely/Snapper shop. Customer came in and had to buy a new caberator. His had sat over the winter and you could see where the inside of his carb had been etched by corrosion. The float had this greenish black crud all over it and the carb in general was unsalvageable. Although the carb was only $40, Ed said it could have been averted by following these easy rules: Don't let your gas sit in anything for more than two weeks un-treated (stabel for ethanol). When storing 1. Run machine completely out of fuel 3. Fill fuel line with Seafoam. You can buy a three pack of empty 6 oz. thin neck plastic bottles that you can fill, to squirt the seafoam in the fuel line. 4. Try to start (ensures seafoam has completely filled your fuel pump and carbs). I also had to buy a carb for my garden tiller two years ago as the same thing hapened to it. I intend on using this "no gas" method in the futrure. Just wanted to pass it along for your consideration.
  9. In the few weeks riding I have a question regarding 4 way stops. There's one such stop on my way to school where traffic tends to be quite heavy going in all four directions, and moves with relative regularity. It moves in such a way that traffic maintains an inconsistent roll of less than 5 mph (speedo isn't even registering at this point) all the way up to the stop sign itself where the lead vehicle can do a 3 to 5 second touch and go waiting for cross traffic to clear the intersection. The problem with the intersection for bikes is that there are rumble strips warning of the stop sign ahead, but at the heaviest times of traffic, the line is already formed beyond the farthest strip, meaning I'm having to go over these strips at less than 5mph. I'm getting used to doing this without having the fear of the bike jarring out from underneath me. My issue is, I'm not quite comfortable with pulling my legs up on to the pegs while doing the line crawl and usually have my boots skimming the air just above the pavement, not touching down unless the bike feels like it's leaning too far one way or the other, which a quick kick off, counter steer, running duck walk, or combination usually suffices to keep things balanced until the speed can come back up a little. Is this the right way to do it? I just get the feeling that there's too much that could go wrong if I stick in this habit, such as a boot bouncing off the pavement and winding up in the wheel somehow, or wedged between the road and the pipe; luckily the 'zuki is a shaft drive so I don't necessarily have to worry about getting caught in a belt or chain while pulling this off, but I'd rather not get into that habit either if I wind up having a bike with one of those in the future. So, is there a better way to do this "stop line crawl", or am I stuck with my method and just have to pull it off as safely as I can? It's not something that was really gone over in the MSF. Yeah they did taking the bike down a narrow lane for about 20 ft at minimal speed, but that was done at between 5 to 10 mph and I do have to say that the knobby tires of the dual sport did help with getting the slow feel of the rumble strips under wraps.
  10. Hi everyone first time posting here. I got a question? I have a 06 midnight venture with around 26000 miles on it and the more I drive it I notice a popping sound coming from the drive line only when im backing it out of my shead. Now it stops when I ride it a few miles and it dont seem to hurt anything? But when its been sitting a few days it pops alot when i back it out? I checked the rear end and it all looks good there. So any comments or sugestions would help. Be cool and ride ride ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Well, I went and picked her up yesterday. 1989 Venture Royale. I should have known better though, I went out with a partially dying battery (would not hold a good charge) and somewhat paid the price. I had the radio on (stupid move) and didn't realize it had stalled, while sitting at a long traffic light. Went to go and whoops, nothing. Had to push it through the intersection and a few hundred feet lol. Had people honking at me to tell me their displeasure, even though there was another lane for them to occupy. This was after a few hour trip so no complaints, got it started again and took it straight home. Flushed all of the brake systems today, now nice clean fluid and firm levers. The dealership I got it from must not have realized it was a linked rear master cylinder because the front line and proportioning line were not bled at all but the rear brake line was. They had adjusted the master cylinder stroke so the brakes would constantly drag so I had to lengthen the stroke of the master cylinder. So no parts required, and no more dragging rear brakes. Did a slow panic stop only using the rear master and it works as intended. I have a really choppy idle, above 2000 rpm's she takes off like a rocket and is very fast, under that she's really lopey. I have a set of 4 carburetor diaphragms coming in tomorrow and plan to replace the plugs so hopefully that will help some. I know I am going to have to sync. the carbs. but I need to get some gauges first. Oh and the steering bearings need to be tightened some or replaced, but works fine for the moment. Overall even not running 100% I am happy that I got her, and was able to ride comfortably longer than I ever have before. I am going to upload a video shortly as well.

    Bike Lifts

Don’t know if this is right place or not,, I just became a Dealer for K&L Supply, and replaced the lift that I had in the shop. The other one went back to the guy it was borrowed from,,, Anyway they are having a sale until April first on their lifts, and a new electric/hydraulic 1100 pound just out. I got the MC655R lift to use, and it is the Kats meow If any one has been looking, you know that K&L is the Top of the Lift line. I can get K&L stuff dropped shipped at really decent prices for now. This is the lift I have now,,, turn the volume down the music is a little anoying,,,,, [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roNDAn2aOms&feature=channel_video_title]YouTube - K&L MC655R Hydraulic Lift[/ame]
  13. 83VR STD On cold start, warms up at idle or cruise until temp on gauge reads right at red/green line. Fan also comes on at red/green line, even at 50degF. Then suddenly starts to cool down to about 3/4 middle green. Then starts to rise all the way back to the red/green line. Does this cycle apx 3-4 times until finally cools to just above 1/2 middle green. Then it stays here rest of cruise, unless stopped in traffic, where it climbes back to red/green, fan cools to about 3/4, and cruising again cools to 1/2. Thinking thermostat sticking when cold, and takes over high temp to get it to open. Opionions?
  14. This site is AWESOME and has really helped me out a lot! Just thought that I would share how I mounted my GPS to my '86 scoot. I had tried mounting to the handle bars but found it vibrated more that I liked, was not well protected by the windshield & was too far out of my line of sight to feel safe. After a lot of thought I figured out that I could mount it to my fork because it is very stable & already has threads. It also positions the GPS in a good line of sight & is well protected by the windscreen. I had access to a small lathe so I made the custom spacer & bought the aluminum RAM mount components. See pics for more detail. I really like it and have made one for a friend that has an '84 venture.
  15. 85 Royale Last year it seemed to me that my clutch would not engage until it was almost fully released. This is the opposite problem that most of us seem to experience. Mostly we have problems with being unable to get the clutch to release, due to a bad master, or air in the line or a soft line. But my problem is that I feel that sooner or later, the way it's going, my clutch will refuse to fully engage and start to slip. That being said, I cannot get it to slip when fully released. I had that problem a couple of years ago and so replaced the clutch, and cleaned and rebuilt the master and the slave. So I'm looking for thoughts on this issue.
  16. Ok, today I installed my Yamaha brand trunk rack. It went well. I also have a Yamaha brand bag for it. So I went and placed it on the rack and the velco straps for the front part of the bag do not line up properly with the bars on the rack. Anyone have this problem? The rear velco straps line up just right. Thanks Geoff
  17. OK...it all started sometime on Friday afternoon. I got home from seeing some customers to find that my Internet was down. My son said that it had been down since around noon. Now I've had this DSL for a couple of years and it has been very stable, I don't think it has EVER been down and if so, for just a few minutes. So, I called Frontier to report the problem. Was almost through all the voice menus and crap when suddenly, it started working again. So I hung up and figured it was a glitch that they had already found. About 20 minutes later, it was off again. I waited for about an hour and called again. This time I finally got through to a tech and he did some checking on my line and etc. He then said that when he entered by account number, he got a pop-up telling him that Frontier was doing service upgrades to the system in my area and that is why it was down. I said OK...well...it would have been nice to receive some advanced notice but anyway, what is the ETA on having it up again. He said..."well...according to my screen...it should be back up by mid April". Now at this point, I was fairly sure that this guy had swam too long in the shallow end of the gene pool so I specifically asked him..."are you telling me that I'm not going to have any Internet service until April and that nobody would feel that it was necessary to let me know this". He said..."yes sir, that is correct". At that point, I nicely asked to speak to his supervisor. A few more minutes of waiting and his supervisor was on the line. She was a very nice lady and asked me what the problem was. I told her what had been said so far and she laughed and said..."I don't blame you for asking to speak to somebody else". She said that yes, there were service upgrades taking place and over the next couple of months there may be brief periods of slowness or very short down times but I would NOT be without Internet for any significant amounts of time. She did more tests and determined that there was indeed a problem with my line somewhere. She submitted a ticket and promised me that somebody would be out yesterday. Now according to my son, the service came back on later Friday evening and it was working fine when I got up on Saturday morning. Around 8:30 a.m. though, a Frontier service tech showed up. I told him that it was working fine right now but he said he would check it anyway. He told me that my service would be off for a few minutes while he checked the lines. He did some tests and told me that there was a problem somewhere with my line and he was going to put a toner on my line and go down the road to find the problem. He showed back up around 2:00 yesterday and said that he had determined that the line was bad down the road and was submitting a ticket to get the cable crew out here. I asked how long that would take and he had no idea but hopefully within a few days. WHAT? I said you know, my service was working fine when you showed up but hasn't worked since then and is still down. So...he said that he would see what he could do, maybe find another pair of wires to use. About an hour later he showed up again and said that all was working fine now. Maybe, but I still had no service. Just a blinking light on the modem showing it trying to connect. He said that didn't make sense because I had full signal at the box on my house. He checked inside the house at the jack where my modem was plugged in and it showed full signal also. He said he was going to make some calls and try to find out what it could be and he left again. He never showed up again and I never heard back from anybody but about an hour after he left, it started working again. So......I have no idea what was wrong. I don't know if there really was a bad cable. I don't know why it was working even when it was showing full signal. I don't know much of anything except that some of these people don't seem to know much about the jobs they are supposed to be doing.
  18. Have this on another forum but the experts are here,,, I have noticed here in the past month or so that I have a very slight oil drip in the center of the engine. I think I have traced it to a location that is going to near impossible to check and tighten the small bolts on the left side of the engine up, and behind the covers. It doesn't seem to do it all of the time, just when it sits for a while. But then again it hasn't sit for long until now. I will try to get a photo of the area that I think it is coming from this week end and post it. I also noticed that the sight glass for the oil is full,,, I thought that I had filled it to just above the top mark ever so slightly,,,,,, Now the strange thing... I looked yesterday to just check the drip, and saw a drop or two of anti freeze hanging on the same line that there has been oil. What the heck!!! My shop varies greatly in temperature, and I figure that the line or a clamp is shrunk due to cold, and reheat ( to a degree ) I am puzzled on this a little.... Any Ideas.
  19. A woman looking desperately for work goes to the toy plant where they make Elmo dolls. The Personnel Manager goes over her resume and tells her that he regrets that he has nothing worthy of her background that he might offer her. The woman replies that she really needs work and will take almost anything. The Personnel Manager thinks about it and then says that he does have one job that requires very low level skills -- on the Tickle Me Elmo production line. The woman is thrilled at the opportunity and happily accepts the job. Then the manager takes her down to the assembly line and explains her duties to her. She replies that she thinks can handle the job, and agrees to report for work at 8:00 a.m. next morning. The next day at 8:45, there's a knock on the Personnel Manager's door. The Tickle Me Elmo line manager comes in and starts ranting about the woman just hired. After the line manager screaming for 15 minutes about how badly backed up the assembly line is, the Personnel Manager suggests that the line man show him the problem. Together they head down to the line and, sure enough, Elmos are backed up from here to kingdom come, as far as the eye can see. Right at the end of the line is the woman just hired. She has pulled over a roll of material used for Elmo's furry exterior and she has a big bag of marbles at her side. Both managers watch as she cuts out a small swatch of the material, takes two marbles and begins sewing them between Elmo's legs. The Personnel Manager starts to kill himself laughing, and finally, after about 20 minutes of rolling around in hysterics, he pulls himself together and walks over to his newest employee. "I'm sorry," he says to her. "I guess you misunderstood me yesterday. What I wanted you to do was give each Elmo two test tickles."
  20. Old subject but have line on bike for parts that has had diaphrams changed (84) and can't remember if they are close to being the same as 87 or close. Can they be used in 87?
  21. Is anybody using a V.O.I.P. Phone service to replace your traditional land line? I downgraded my land line service to 911 dial out only though incoming calls are received. This saved me about $50 a month. We use cell phones for dial out and I'm testing V.O.I.P. as a backup source through the internet.
  22. Some of the jokes being posted lately are a bit over the line for this forum. Please remember that this site is PG rated.
  23. I'm terrible at electrical work, but luckily I found someone that is very good and reasonable in KC. I don't have to do the work, but I need to select the equipment. 1) Rear lights. I have a 2000 MM with the standard back lights. I want more light. I just have the single red light in the back. Can anyone tell me what equipment I might buy for the back that would give me more riding lights and fit solidly on our Gen 2? Pictures would be great. 2) I read a lot of discussion about LED's on the front light and radio static. I would like to have better light on the head light and the riding lights. What is the bottom line on upgrading lights? I want dependabilty and good lights. I have just removed all my LED's from the blinkers because the cancelers didn't work and that seemed a lot more dangerous than the benifit of more light on a blinker. Thanks for the help. Again, I don't need wiring directon just equipment and bottom line reccomendations.
  24. I voted, and what a zoo. I got to the poles at 6:58 and was already #13 in line. I have been voting at the same location for the last 30 years and have never missed any vote. In the last 30 years I have never been higher than #5, the #5 was because I was a couple of minutes late one year. By the time I finished with my ballot there were about 30 people in line waiting to vote. I've never seen a line in 30 years. I pass 2 other polling places on the way in to work and they both had a lot of cars in the parking lot, One of the places the lot was full and cars parked both sides of the street for 2 blocks in each direction. If what I saw in the first half hour is any indication, the estimate of 50% turnout may be way low. There are some hot button issues here in WI. Get out there and vote. If you are in Chicago, Vote early and often......
  25. Is there a trick to get the hub splines to line up with the wheel? I cant get it to slide on.
