  1. I have installed all bulbs including the dash bulbs with LED's and I can say that it was worth every penny because the load on the battery has changed from 15 amps to around 2 amps with a inductive amp meter wrapped around the ground side to see the diff. Jumper the CMU for running and brake lights and installed a 50watt 6 ohm load resistor kit on the let and right side to trick the turn signal relay just enough to have it flash. Will post pictures tomorrow of what I did and if any body needs the info on what bulbs went where I can send that to you. The total cost was around $130.00 for every bulb and the two load resistor kits. Now on to the rest of the bike to finale finish her up and give it a ride..
  2. I posted this a few days ago on the Tech Forum and appreciate the responses from the few that tried to help out but no solutions has been found yet, so now I'm putting it out here for all to see. Maybe you have had this problem before and already know the answer, we'll see. Ok, here's the problem. When I turn up the volume to about 15 on the radio control, that's about as high as I need to go without being too loud in my headsets. At the same time my wife has to turn hers( the rear control) to max to be able to hear at all when we are out riding. I thought it might be in the helmet but it does this with different helmets. I've even taken one helmet and hooked it up to the front, adjusted the volume to where it almost too loud for me, unhooked it and plugged it in to the rear, and still have to turn it to max to be able to hear anything. This is on a 09 RSV. I thought it might be in the connections in the fairing, so I took them all apart, inspected , cleaned, put on some dielectric grease, but the problem remains. Really don't want to take it back to the stealer, I've been burned too many times! I guess I need also to mention, it's not got anything to do with the brand of headsets since I've tried IMC, Edsets, and some really cheap brands. The result is always the same. Anyone else had this problem???? Is this a common problem? I do have Mic-Mutes installed but I had this problem even before they were installed. One possible solution was to use the fader control for front to rear volume adjustment , but to my knowledge this only works with the onboard speakers. Once you plug in the headsets, the option goes away on the control module. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  3. As most of you know by now I finished our trike (3.5 years). My problem is I keep pushing gear lube out of the vent that I installed. I installed the vent in the top left rear of the flipped over center section (no axle tubes). Now looking back on old photos, I can't see a vent in the the old gear case cover. I couldn't use it in the build so I threw it away. Does anyone out there have or know of someone that has a 1989/1994 Cougar or Thunderbird V6 with the 7.5" IRS. Could I please get you to look under the rear and see if there is a vent of any kind on the top rear of the aluminum cover? Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. PS Everything is closed up for Memorial Day so I can't get into any wrecking yards.
  4. I went for a run on my 04 RSV with my GPS and noted how much the speedo was out then went to the online calibration page on the SpeedOhealer site and ran the calculator. I then installed the Speedohealer (took about 10 minutes) and set the calibration according to the numbers given. Took the bike back out with the GPS once again and it is dead on. Very pleased now to have the speedo showing true speed. Not sure exactly what that will do to my odometer but I can live with that. Also, I'm going to synch my carbs as well this weekend and that should pretty much be what was on my hit list for the bike before riding season gets under way that and put on a few decals I ordered way back in February. Just a bit of gold leaf decaling to add a bit of detail to the bike. I hope I don't mess that up and make it look lopsided. Weather finally looks like it is going to hit the double celsius digits this weekend - finally. Ride safe Chris in Red Deer, AB
  5. I installed a Battery Bug voltage meter along with a new Deka battery on Friday last week. When I installed it the Battery monitor told me it was at 100% capacity. I keep it on the Battery Tender all the time. This morning when I went out to the garage it was reading 99% and I took the bike for a short ride and now it is down to 97% but is reading 14.2 volts charging. I'm wondering if this is normal or if there is something wrong? I installed a new high output stator two weeks ago as well. Is this normal? Or should it say 100% for quite a length of time before it begins to tell me that the battery capacity is going down or could I have a charging problem? Thank you for your comments and help. Chris
  6. My HID headlight came in Friday, from Canadian Custom Got out yesterday afternoon and installed it. The hardest part was getting the HID bulb in to the headlight bucket. I had to take the two bolts holding the frame in place, out, to get that long bulb installed. (note to self don't forget the rubber seal ring around the back of bucket!!!). Then where to mount the power supply? Well there is an empty flat place (looking AT the bike) on the left. Thinking double sided emblem mounting tape, but not sure of the heat. Really don't wanna drill holes in the fairing, so lemme call the expert! I guess great minds run in the same circles (Thanks Squid!!!). So I mounted it with the tape right in that spot. Since I already have a "fused" power wire run from the battery to a switch (that picture did not turn out) all I had to do was connect the large power supply wire for the HID light to that switch. Woo Hoo didn't have to pull the tank!!! I did run in to one "bump in the road", the red power supply wire pulled out of the fuse holder (insufficient crimping) that is supplied with the light kit. A quick trip to Autozone and that was taken care of. MAN, that sucker is BRIGHT!!! The pictures don't show it, but it makes the stock passing light bulbs look like yellow fog lights:(.
  7. Here is a picture of where I installed my Battery Bug Volt/battery monitor/thingy. When I bought my bike in November I realized that the battery was probably toast. When I installed the bug the replace battery alarm went off and both warning indicators were lit and it showed 0% of battery life left. So yesterday I installed a new Deka ETX20L, hooked everything back up and the bug immediately showed 100% battery condition, the warning indicators went off, the alarm stopped beeping and it read 14.2 volts. I installed it just to the edge of the right hand speaker since I always use my headset and it is easy to read there without moving my eyes too much. Also here are a few pics of the graphics I put on my bike. So touching wood, my bike is road ready for 2011. Chris in Red Deer, Alberta
  8. installed it on the right brake reservoir. I am wondering if others on here have installed the battery bug and how did you run the cable? Chris in Red Deer, Alberta
  9. I like seeing my engine through the side covers and so I removed the vented panels. The problem is the massive amount of heat that blows on my feet and legs during the summer. I found 11" x 14" clear Lexan sheets at Home Depot for $3.49. They are the perfect size to make clear side panels. I made the panels and installed them yesterday. They work! I would show you pictures, but, you can't see the clear panels in a photo! Maybe they will get dirty . . .
  10. Installed my new F4 windshield today. It's the wide version, 2" inches taller than stock with vent. Really impressed with clarity, thickness, and lack of buffeting after install. It was nice not dealing with looking through the top edge of stock windshield.
  11. This is a pic of the floor of my '07 RSV travel trunk. Are these the metal plates in question? Is it safe for me to assume (yeh, I know) that mine either was shipped with the kit already installed or that the PO installed a kit? These plates are (obviously) black, another pic looked like the plates had some kind of bright finish. If this is the right thing and it's the way it should be, it might help others understand how it looks after the repair kit is installed.
  12. Well I thought I had all the chrome I could get on my bike but I found a place in Houston where I can get a set of Chrome Wheels for $700.00 including new seals, bearings and Installed.. Needless to say I will be in Houston on 4/5/2011 getting them installed. I will also be getting a few extras that I dont need but I love to get things "Tweaked". I cant hardly wait!!!
  13. I just installed the subject trailer hitch and it installed in just one hour. It was a perfect fit and so easy to install. I did not even have to remove the saddlebags to perform the removal of the support arm and then installing the trailer hitch. It is recommended that one remove the saddlebags to prevent scratching the bags accidently when removing and installing the bolts. Being very careful, it really easy to install without removing the saddlebag which really cuts down on the time for installing of the trailer hitch. The service was great with no shipping or taxes. $150.00 covered it all. A special thanks to MarkVentures for the service and an excellent part. It fit like a glove, little to no effort and installed in "one hour". Would highly recommend this hitch for anyone riding a Venture. DanC
  14. Hennessey Venom GT Hennessey, a renowned tuner of Dodge Vipers and just about anything you want equipped with superpowers, took one of the lightest sports cars on the planet, Lotus’s Exige, and installed more horsepower than you’ll find in a Bugatti Veyron. Each of the 1200 horses produced by the 6.2L twin-turbo V8 must propel just a speck more than one kilogram of Hennessey Venom GT
  15. any one here installed any hyperlites on any thing ? running lights / flashing brake lights . i installed a set worked once and and quit after trying the fixes from the co. and nothing helped the co. is sending me a new controler and expectes that will fix it . just wondering if any one has been there done that?
  16. I recently undertook the task of comfortizing the Corbin seat on my new (to me) 2000' RSV. As I mentioned on an earlier thread the "out of the box" Corbin seat just does'nt fit me. My investment was $120.00 and a days work but it was well worth it . I now have an "all day" seat and so does my passenger. I installed Two 5/8" saddleman gel pads into the molded foam and covered them with 1 yard of felt I purchased at Walmart. 3M adhesive spray was used to hold the felt in place while the leather cover was being installed and riveted. As you can see in the pics , I slightly reshaped the seat with a 4" angle grinder and added some dense upholstery foam (white) to the backrest portion of the driver seat to give the seat more low back support. The seat is very comfortable. I now sit slightly lower in the seat. My next project is to lower (cut down) my Show Chrome wind shield about 1 inch and the RSV will be ready for a road trip. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/bigpine33/031.jpg?t=1296763489 http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/bigpine33/033.jpg?t=1296763653 http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/bigpine33/036.jpg?t=1296763733 http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/bigpine33/037.jpg?t=1296763801 http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/bigpine33/038.jpg?t=1296763877 http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/bigpine33/047.jpg?t=1296763952 GOD BLESS AMERICA " These are the times that try men's souls"
  17. I ride a 2008 RSTD with a Hannigan side car. I had the final drive swapped out (RMSportmax using VMAX gearing), and a Kumho rear tire installed last week. Went for my first ride Saturday. The bike rides great, but I'm now hearing a noise from the rear of the bike. It sounds like a tire noise but I'm not sure.....I want to make sure it's not the final drive. Question for those that have Kumho rear tires installed, do they sound different than standard tires? Secondly, for those that have swapped out final drives, anybody had a similar issue? Thanks, OscarV
  18. I hope this helps anyone getting ready to order a windshield. This is just info. I ordered an F4 17 1/2 extra wide "no vent" last week and it came last week. Fast shipping:cool10: A mistake was made and they sent me a windshield with a vent hole but no vent. I called and they said they will ship me another one and they would pay for shipping both ways. So far so good. I got my windshield yesterday with in three days and installed it today. Now comes the info for those looking for a new shield. I had ordered 3 years ago a Wide Yamaha shield. It was too tall for me so I cut it down to 17". The measurement was from right behind the gas cap straight up to the top of the windshield. I could see over the windshield with about 3" to spare. I liked it. I am 5'10 1/2" If you look at Yamaha's windshields in their book, you will notice they have a black haze at the bottom. That is there for a reason. I know this because. The F4 that I installed today doesn't have that feature. With out it you can see down behind the windshield and see stuff you ought not to see even with the chrome piece installed. I took the chrome back off a took a black magic marker "for now" and colored the bottom and it helped. Come spring, I will mask and paint it or what ever? Also the 17 1/2 shield now measures 22" high form behind the gas cap to top of windshield. It is also 1 1/4 wider each side than Yamaha's extra wide shield. This may not be the so called "right way" to measure but, it will let you know how I measured mine and I was happy with the 17". I will have to wait until the weather breaks here in Michigan before I will know if I like it or not. I already miss the black haze at the bottom and I can always cut the shield down if I don't like looking through it. Just food for thought.
  19. Got my new (to me) windshield in the mail today! (thanks oldbear!). Decided since it warmed up to 13 degrees today, I would get out there in the garage and install the windshield...while I was at it I went ahead and installed my new windblocker (to keep the air off of my knees) that my dad got me for Christmas. Here's a pic of them installed and the difference in the windshields...
  20. I just hate it when I have parts left over! So, I just finished repacking the steering head bearings and I'm putting everything back together and I find this 'extra' part. It's a rubber washer (of sorts) with such an odd configuration, you'd think it would be easy to figure where it belongs. I've gone through the manual and every other sort of resource I could find, but I still don't know where to put it. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/rubberwasher.jpg The inside diameter of the washer is the same as the outside diameter of the ring nut pictured here. But, I can't see any purpose for it when installed that way. The only other possibility I can come up with is that it goes under the bearing cover on top of the upper bearing. If that's the case, I'd like to get confirmation before I button everything up. P.S. '83 Royale (if that makes any difference)
  21. OK...after a brief scare with my windshield (my wife threw it away and took it to the dumpster, but was able to recover it)...I decided to go ahead and do some things to to the bike today. I have several questions!! First thing was removing the fairing, I did notice that both tabs were broken and I know this has been discussed a lot, but if left broken, do they really pose any danger...or should I DEFINITELY have the fairing replaced? When removing the fairing, I also noticed that one of the grommets was missing helps stabilize and rattle proof the fairing...is that a standard size grommet or is there a special part number? Replacing the lamp with the Silverstar IS A PAIN...even with the fairing split!! Also the BIG rubber cover has threads in it...but it doesn't screw on does it. Also, even with the fairing split, I had a hard time getting my hand up through there...removing the adjustment knob did help. Maybe I am missing something, but any further tips would be greatly appreciate. Is there a better tape to use besides electrical tape that is not as effected by HEAT and COLD...the adhesive doesn't seem to keep the connections tight. I also was trying to track down why my running lamps no longer worked...when they installed them they used the OLD fashioned glass 10A fuse. I am going to replace that with chip kind, is that what most of you have done? And finally, I installed the F4 Customs Windshield. WOW...very nice. VERY clear too. Sitting behind it is almost like sitting on the bike without a shield at all...it's that clear. I am very pleased. So, I'm looking forward to some answers, thoughts, suggestions and tips. Wally
  22. Here's my trailer in work and some pics of my newly installed hitch. Hopefully I can keep this thread updated as I modify my trailer...
  23. Well, dad drove almost 800 miles (one way) to spend Thanksgiving with my family. It was an awesome time but I had an ulterior motive for him coming up. He's been a long time Venture rider, so I wanted his help installing my new trailer hitch and wiring, changing the oil, and just generally showing me around my new (to me) Venture. We had some good weather and my plan was successful. We got the trailer hitch installed, fabricated a bracket to hold the plug (see pics), installed the wiring harness for the trailer, changed the oil, blew out the air filters, added some seafoam to the gas, and he showed me some other areas of interest to pay attention to. Was a great visit and working in the shop with dad is ALWAYS a good time!
  24. I found this in the 2nd Gen tech library (although it also applies to 1st Gen's as well): http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=501 As I'm always looking for ways to improve my '99's performance and fuel mileage, I want to give this a try, but I'm still a little confused. The mod calls for a "tee" to be installed if the AIS system has NOT been plugged (mine has not). If someone has done this, please let me know what this is referring to and how it needs to be installed. The rest of the mod seems quite basic - just a 1 1/2" to 2" hose connecting the nipples on each side once the vacuum hose and cap are removed. Don, you weighed in on this back in '06, and I was wondering if you still think this is a beneficial modification to make. Thanks.
  25. I just installed an update to Tapatalk. I know that some of you Iphone and Blackberry users use it. They just released Tapatalk 2.0 which is supposed to fix a few bugs. I have already installed it here on the forum but the release notes say that an update on YOUR end is needed to realize the fixes to some of the bugs. So, if you are using Tapatalk, you might want to upgrade to the latest version.
