  1. Went to start the bike this morning, hit the switch, turned over a couple of times, then a loud clunk... like something broke inside. I hit the button again and it started right up, no problem, no sounds. What the heck could that have been? Took it down the street... nothing. It ran fine. Anyone have this happen to them before?
  2. crockettrider hope you are ok from the storms that hit your town last night. reguards don c.

  4. One day this very sensitive, animal loving guy was driving and then he hit a bunny. He got of his car and realized he had hit the Easter bunny, so he starts crying. A couple minutes later a blonde lady drives by and gets out of her car. She asks the man what happened and he told her "I KILLED the Easter bunny!!!" She walked to her car and brought back a can. She sprayed the bunny and a few seconds later the bunny got up, jumped 10 feet and turned back and waved then he did it again and again until he was out of sight. The man asked the woman what the can was. She said "You really wanna know" He said "Yes" Wait for it Wait for it Wait for it Wait for it Hair Spray."Revives Dead hare and gives it a permanent wave"
  5. We've all been there, where to ride, been there, done that so I just hop on the old bike and decide to follow where my turn signals go blink blink blink.Southwest OH and southeast IN on a short ride but I thought I would just take a few pics along the way for the fun of it. I think it was october last year so I pop up out of my hole in the ground to make sure it is safe to ride.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/919.jpg Have a little look around... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/918.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/920-1.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/916.jpg So I hit the road to nowhere.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/901.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/904.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/902.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/905.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/903.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/909-1.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/908.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/910.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/913.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/912.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/915.jpg Just a two hour ride to nowhere but it was worth it. Short rides and a few overniters is about all I have time for but I always look forward to them.http://www.ohioriders.net/images/smilies/ridingmotorcycle.gif
  6. Someone called me this past Monday night to talk about the lights I just added and hit me at a really bad time. I didn't catch who it was. The phone rang just as I had just put dinner on the stove and then a (former) BIL stopped by with a car we were buying. It just snowballed and I needed to postpone the call to attend the immediate things happening in the kitchen. Didn't mean to be rude. Would be glad to chat about the lights (or anything else). It just hit at a really bad time. Give me a call this weekend if you would still like to chat. Will be in the garage (fixing cars) or in the office (doing taxes) all weekend. RR
  7. A couple weeks ago, I had a 5 gallon bucket seat that I use for hunting fall out of the rafters and hit the tank on my bike. Of course the soft cushion seat couldn't hit it, it was the bottom of the bucket and it left a dent. Any idea where I can get a replacement? A friend of mine owns a dent remobal company and didn't think he could remove it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.....made me sick!
  8. Got home early today and my daughter wanted to go for a ride, not 20 mins into the ride a car stopped real quick and smack. My fault and I got a ticket for going too fast for conditions. Not a scratch on the car I hit. My daughter hit her knee and elbow when the bike fell over. What I learned. 1. Thank God for steel toe boots otherwise mine foot would either be broke or gone. 2. Engine and Bag rails are worth the cost. 3. Full gear keeps away road rash. 4. 2 seconds behind a vehicle is too close for me. 5. You can never have too much breaking practice. The State Trooper and witnesses said I probably could not have done anything different to prevent it, however there is always something. Any suggestions on what I could or should have been doing and don't be afraid to hurt my feelings. Looks like I am not going to be doing any riding for awhile and dealing with insurance.
  9. I was out for a ride this afternoon and my wife calls and asks me to pick up a powerball ticket for tonights drawing. So I stop in a Shell market about 15 miles from home to take a break and pick up the tickets. When I got back out to the bike I noticd my helmet dangling from the handle bars by the headset cord. I thought that was odd because the it was always secure hooked over the mirror. While I walked around the bike while finishing my Pepsi I noticed a turn signal lens on the ground about 4 feet behind the bike. It looked like mine, it was mine. Crap, someone hit me while I was in the store. I was parked out beyond the pump islands away from everyone. Upon further examination I found my fender dented, the chrome saddle bag rail bent, the trunk cracked and scratched and I was pissed. I called the police to file a report and it turned out the store had security cameras that recoreded the event. However, the resolution was too poor to identify the vehicle or driver. The driver of a white extended cab pickup was parked about 30 feet from me. He backed up and his hitch ball took out my turn signal and dented the fender and his bumper hit the trunk. I watched in the video as he pushed the bike back about 4 feet and luckily it didn't fall over and stayed on the sidestand. The video showed the guy get out and look behind the truck and then get back in. I guess he was contemplating his next move because it took him a minute and a half to decide to get out and come in the store. It appeared he came in just to see if anyone seemed to have noticed him hit the bike. When no one seemed to have noticed he returned to his truck and drove off. All the while I am standing in the store talking to friendly guy that just walked up and asked about Ventures. This all happened in about 3 minutes. The trooper took the report and a copy of the video but it is doubtful anything will come of it. I guess I get to talk to my insurance company Monday. It looks like replacment parts are going to run about $1300. Maybe it's time for a new bike. I'm tempted. With my luck today I don't expect much from those lottery tickets. Dennis
  10. The Great VR Scavenger Hunt!!! Find the link "Stickied" to the top of the "Fun and Frivioulous" topic. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20503&page=80 Several new players, and a lot of activity in the last 8 days. Here's what's transpired in the last few days. A pic of you and your bike and/at... Sign with a "Q" in it, hit on Feb 13 by DanOh a drive thru, hit on Feb 16 by DynoDon some flowers, hit on Feb 16 by SMSgt railroad crossbuck sign, hit on Feb 17 by EtcswJoe Military Memorial, hit on Feb 19 by Scooter Bob a watertower, hit on Feb 20 by DanOh old fashioned barber shop, hit on Feb 21 by EtcswJoe Come on everybody else, join in the fun! Here's a brief explanation of the few rules that DynoDon put together a couple weeks ago. The game is a scavenger hunt. You look for the current "target" get a picture of you and your bike and the target. IT is OK to have you in a reflection in the chrome or mirror since it may be hard if you are alone to get a picture of you and the bike and the target. most people take a second picture of the target and their bike just so people can see it better. the person that gets the current target then sets a new target. Past targets have been things like, (all of them start:)You and your bike and:__________ A police car at a donut shop, a tractor, pumpkin patch, scarecrow, bridge, lake etc etc. Anyone can play, and you only have to look back to the last target (usually just a few messages) to see what it is. Sometimes the "group" will vote on a target if it is kind of on the edge, but usually, you get the picture, post it and set a new target. For newbies, you will have fun going through the previous targets if you want. The more that play, the more fun. Be inventive with targets, but don't make them so hard or obscure that most people can't play. Try to stay away from targets that are only in one area (Pacific ocean, etc). A topical or seasonal target can be fun. One I got was a yard display of blow up Christmas decorations! Play and have fun! Later, Scooter Bob
  11. your engines Its go time. This marks the beginning of the riding season for me. When the cars hit the track, I know its getting close.....
  12. It got up to 38 degrees today. Been below freezing for quite a while. Streets are for the most part dry. Then the itch hit me. Even worse, the forecast for the next week is for temps into the 50's. Came home and dropped the battery in the bike. (The DEKA I pulled out in mid December and no charge since then) and let the pump prime up. Hit the button and it cranked for about 30 seconds and fired up. Ah..... such a sweet sound!! Let her warm up a bit and wandered off around the neighborhood. My face hurts from grinning. Maybe ride to work tomorrow........ The itch is gone.
  13. This Intregrated Brake is new to me. So when I hit the foot brake, one front rotor and the rear rotor are activated. Are the fluid pressure 50/50 front rear or 60/40 or ##/##? When I hit the front brake only with the right hand brake then are both front rotors activiated or just one front rotor? I'm from the old school riding 27 years ago and so I'm still not too comfortable when needing to brake in a turn and say it is wet out. The whole idea of Intregrated Braking seems strange to me. And not having ridden much so far, would welcome any thoughts of comfort. Like does one brake differently in different situations with intregrated brakes vs the old fashion brake system. Or do I brake as if I have the old system and just forget that the brakes are intregrated, and let the new technology do its stuff. As for now I ride kind of conservatively until I get a better understanding, more experience and a better feel for the braking.
  14. Some snow for our heat First four days of the New Year we are going to be hit with stinkin' hot weather..40C [104F] :crying:
  15. Hit a hawk going about 75 mph in 30 degree weather. Saw it coming across the meeting and it seemed like it dive bombed me. Haven't hit but 1 bird in 1million miles of car driving, but take out a bird in less than 20,000. Heard that happens with bikes for some reason. Question- My lower fairing is trashed. The other side got dinged. The one that just got trashed was replaced after being damaged. It seems that these things may get damaged quite east. Any suggestions on protecting these lower fairings? They are quite expensive to replace.
  16. i was down at the casino. putting $20 in this machine and coins where comming out just as fast as i could hit the red button. man i was on a roll. then i looked up and saw it was a change machine. its going to be a long winter
  17. Had quite the scare yesterday. While in the #2 lane on the freeway, a double dump truck merging onto the freeway from the left about 100 feet in front of me hit one of those big orange construction barrels which bounced across the #1 & #2 lanes right into my path. I couldn't avoid it. I hit it & trapped it under the bike while doing about 55 mph. The bike started sliding, but, somehow, I kept it upright & eased over to the shoulder. I put the side stand down as far as it would go, about 4-5 inches short of where it's supposed to stop, but, with the barrel trapped under the bike, it was enough to hold the bike up. Trucker didn't stop. Nobody stopped. In fact, those who were merging onto the freeway from the freeway entrance weren't even slowing down to let me over until I stuck my hand out motioning to them to slow down & let me over. Called 911 & within 10 minutes a highway patrolman pulls up. He sees the barrel under the bike & asks, "How did you do that?" meaning, "How did you not crash?" Anyway, I asked if he could try to pull the barrel out while I straddled the bike & leaned it to the right. He asked if I could lift the bike. What??? Almost 900 pounds, I don't think so. He got it out. It broke the right side lower cowling under the radiator & cracked the left side lower cowling in front of my left leg. No other damage. I stopped at my insurance agent's office to report what had just happened. Went back to the construction area to speak with someone there about the incident. The cop had already spoken with them about it. Long story short, they are going to pay my deductible, which I said was all I wanted. They were all very nice about it all. Of course, I probably would have been as nice as I could be if I were in their shoes, too. So, it appears that everything is going to work out smoothly: bike will get repaired, I won't have to shell out for my deductible, construction company gets off easy. On top of all that, I DIDN'T GET HURT. Do I feel fortunate? You bet. Soooooooo........ Be careful out there. It's not just the cagers out to get us. Those truckers & construction barrels are, too.
  18. Well after years as the lead Automation assembly Tech I have taken a new position as a Service Tech, going through some training and trying to get all my travel perks signed up for before I hit the road. Its a strange feeling changing jobs after 13 years but it feels right.
  19. I'll try to make this short. I have a friend who was a co-worker back in the 90's. He is a kind and gentle type of guy who would bend over backwards to help you out if you needed it. Well, I found out that he was paralyzed in an accident while riding his bicycle. He was traveling down a hill and hit a parked car. The car pulled over and stopped due to the new law in Washington State that requires you to not be driving and talking on your cell phone. So the driver did the right thing and Mark hit the car on his bicycle. I know what it's like to go down hill at a high rate of speed on a bike and you tend to look down because your trying to avoid rocks etc. Mark was looking down, hit the back of the parked car, and now is paralyzed. Seems the story should be over and I've said some prayers for Mark and his family. I decided to look on the Internet to see if anything was written about it and found a Corvette forum talking about it. He was called every kind of idiot there was and beyond. I guess we don't think about how our words can hurt folks sometimes. He's a friend of mine and it was an accident. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/off-topic/2641469-new-cell-phone-law-leads-to-serious-bicyclist-injury.html
  20. Months back, a lighting guy installed a Signal Dynamics module and LED's on my 2006 RSTD in my rear signal lights to make the Run/Turn/Brake. Really bright and works perfect. Last week he installed the same module & LED's in my 2009 Venture and gets different results. When you hit either turn signal, the other side lights up bright as a brake. When you turn off the turn signal, both lights stay on brake for 10 seconds then go back to run. Also, when you press the brake, and let go, the brake lights stay on for same 10 seconds then go back to run. Signal Dynamics says it's due to the 4 way flasher unit of the Venture and has no cure. The RSTD does not have 4 way flashers. The tail light (a 100 light LED) operates correctly. He is going to try a Badlands module to see if he gets different results. But if it's due to the hazzards, may hit same snag. Anyone else hit this snag. Basically when you trip the turn or brake, the brake lights stay on for 10 seconds after you release. This could fool a following bike into thinking you are riding brakes or just stupid. Probably the latter. Thanks, Mike G in SC
  21. When I got to work last night I parked in the garage as normal. Several hours later I came in off the road and noticed the smell of gas. I look around my 2002 RSV and noticed a small wet spot under the left side. Well I thought it must have came from one of the overflow tubes. I decided to start her up. When I hit the start switch it turned over about three times and then just stopped!!! I hit the start switch a few more times and just got a thud. The third time I held it longer and it turned over and started shooting gas out the left side exhaust. It seem to run ok. Hope I make it home. Guess I should do an oil change in case some gas got purged passed the rings down into the crank case. Has anyone had this happen before?
  22. Since my co worker just got creamed by a cage that ran a sop sign, I have been thinking about the scenario a lot. Enough that even though the fall colors were just stating to get near peak and the weather was perfect for a ride, I did not go out. If a bad situation presents itself you have a better chance if you have at least thought about it some before it happens. So the question is; If you are going down the road and and you see a car pulling out in front of you, and there is just no way to avoid getting hit, no room behind the car to swerve to the right and oncoming traffic or something else blocking a swerve to the left, what is the best option? Hit the brakes hard which will slow you down and cause you to hit the side of the offending car and get launched into the handle bars, or get on the gas hard to try to get your body past the point of impact even though the car will still hit the back end of the bike and likely knock you down at a higher rate of speed? Or some other option. I know the best option is to not put yourself in that situation but sometimes $hit happens. I do realize that every encounter is different, and the snap decision will have to be made at that moment in time.
  23. my new warranty replacement radio has started to cut out and come back on when I hit sharp bump (bridge expansion joints, pot holes, fallen over HDs) The audio will cut out and come back right away, and I noticed that the LCD display on the controller will also blip off and back on. I've checked all my harnesses again but the problem still seems to come and go depending on the bump I hit.. Is this common enough so to not worry about or might there be something 'jiggly' inside the radio itself that might be doing this?
  24. Actually more to the point ... A deer hit me last nite. On my way home from the range last nite ( teaching a pistol refresher class ) I decided to take the long way home... Nice nite, relatively clear, why not. I headed out to phoenixville, and took rte 29. As I was heading past someof the horse farms (back side of valley forge mountain) heading toward the covered bridge. I saw several herds of whitetail on the side of the road.. They scattered as I came riding through. When I got to the third herd... One broke away from my left and decided that crossing the road toward the loud thing was the safer way to go...instead of into the woods. Good thing it was a little one (for me) and it smacked right in to my left leg and saddlebag. Bike didn't waiver a bit. Took the hit, remained upright and no damage ( that I could see) to the bike. Man was I lucky
  25. Saturday I was riding with a group (6 bikes) on a trip and we were in Wilke-Barre PA and met a bike and the guy was waving to us and looking at our bikes and wasn't paying attention and slamed into the back of a car. Thank god it was in the city and he wasn't going fast. He lost a little meat on his leg and I'm sure he will be sore but was ok for the most part. The bike took a hard hit on the throttle and brake cables and lines and a few scrapes but wasn't to bad. We waited for him to get help and went on our way. He was awful lucky not to be hurt worse. The whole thing happeded right in front of me.
