  1. OK, I am really confused on this. My new bike has the extra lights which are set in chrome all over the back of the rig and a simple switch to turn them on and off, which works fine. I was replacing it with a rocker switch that has an LED (so it now needs it's own ground). When I flip the switch the on/off functionality of the switch works fine but the LED only goes on for a brief moment before the switch engages (basically just flashes on then back off). Any thoughts on why this LED wouldn't work. For the supply I am using a blue wire that comes from the fuse box. The load is the one I am assuming goes to the lights. I ran a ground wire right to the negative terminal of the batter, do I need a different ground point? I also went and got another identical switch in case there was something wrong with the rocker I bought first. Thanks!
  2. My 85 is at last on the road and I will enjoy every moment. I would like to thank everyone who has ever added their input to this site. What a big help. The weather is fine and all summer lays ahead. Planned trips are to Sudbury Ontario and the White Mountains in NH. Ryan
  3. On my recent trip to california my brand new Garmin stopped audio function through the internal speaker and aux output. Anyone had a similar problem. Only mod I did was to split the aux input behind the casette deck so I would not have to ride with the door open. Working fine till I shut it off then no output. Works fine through the FM transmitter I should add. By the way the audio books are a geat thing to listen too crossing the desert.
  4. When I am in a thread and I try to use the mark forums read under the quick links at the bottom of the page, I get the following message. If I use the one at the top of the page, it works fine. Only the bottom one does this. It's happened a couple times now. I can't say this is terribly important. Other links work fine. But I thought you might like to know. Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.
  5. Just thought some of you might like to know how things are in Venture land UK. Well the weather the last few days has been fine and sunny with not a cloud in the sky, nor any planes or con trails for that matter! It’s surprising just how many we usually see here in the south-east of Kent (Gatwick and Heathrow traffic mainly). Rather odd then that you only notice they are not there when you think about it. The high altitude volcanic ash cloud that has covered almost all of our area shows itself by spectacular sunsets and all the muck on your car. If you do not wash the ash off every day it transforms into very fine clay eventually becoming like axle grease to get off! You can also sometimes taste it as acrid along with a sore throat. The RSV is tucked away safe until this thing blows over, I don’t fancy getting this stuff in my carbs. Amazing how a little old volcano can paralyse a country like this. Cheers all PS the above was a bit late getting on to this site. Since then the ash has gone, for the moment......!
  6. Hey Everyone,, hope all is well I have a pathetic 720 miles on my New 09' Venture( purchased on April Fools Day 2010) as of today. I was running around doing errands & stuff. The Radio, CD player, cuts out while riding, sitting at a light, scratching my butt, it doesn't matter. Sometimes with the engine not running, it plays just fine. So I called my dealer, asked if they had any thoughts. The Ser. Mgr asked a couple of ??'s like is the CB on, Did I read the Manual? ETC... & ( My Favorite ) Did you buy the bike here? If you have Factory Warranty, it doesn't matter where you buy it. He still gets the billable, & paid by Yamaha. If I want to bring it in, Leave it for the day, because it takes a long time to remove the Fairing. He seemed to have an attitude, Because I didn't buy from them, I did try, but the money wasn't right & The color of the bike was wrong. Anyway Sam G. Who is the Parts Manager at Beach Blvd Powersports in Jax., Fl. is really cool, I have been doing buisness with him for about 10 years, he's in my phone on speed dial. What is it with Service Departments??? I am A Factory Mobile Technician, I have to do Warranty work too, I get credit for the Travel, Labor, Mileage, Parts. Its guaranteed work!! Why would they rather piss-off a good customer, than treat them like you want their buisness?? OK I'm done venting!! I lied ,, Now I'm done. I also do all my tires with them too. mounting & Balancing etc.. So Today when I got home,,, I did my first service, and I removed the front fairing,It didn't take very long at all, went looking for a bad connection, While the bike was running in my shop with all doors closed, I played with all the wires, did not find anything that seemed to cause a problem. Put it back together, CD & Radio work fine. Until I am going down the road, then it will go goofy again, maybe not?? Anyone have a simuliar problem??? I am really liking the Venture. It works much better on my sand road, so I can now ride when ever I want. The wife really likes backs seat too, and alot more room, and the Floorboards are great too. Ok I'm done for alittle while. Later Vern
  7. 2 cans of Sea foam,( I see that they have a new style of can) a repeat of my sync skills and hard riding to get most of the kinks out Now Im rrunning without that ball bearing runs fine there is a slight back pressure from the right pipe...when I down shift to first
  8. Hi All I am having problem with I think the charging system. Here are the symptoms - Bike seems to be running fine but my volt meter (kuryakyn) shows a drop in voltage while riding. It reads around 12 then drops to 0 - blinks off and on afew times the 2 red lights will come on then the 2 yellow then goes back to reading around 12. again bike seems to run fine. Last week after a short ride the bike would not start so replaced the battery thinking that was it. So now I am thinking stator or regulator. What do you guys think?? Bill
  9. I just bought my uncles 96 royal star with only 4300 miles on the ticker... A few months ago it would not run and leaked gas by the carbs, and he had it to the local dealership for "bend ya over" carb servicing. I took possession of it this weekend, and warms up fine, and idles fine, but when you crack the throttle it bogs... When accelerating from a dead-stop it bogs and I have to rev it and ride the clutch to keep it from stalling out. After that the initial low rpms it kicks in and accelerates fine, but still feels weak (though I have never ridden a Royal Star.) I really do not want to trouble shoot everything, and would like to get to the heart of the matter. So, based on my description would anyone have a good idea what it may be, and to remedy it? Thanks!
  10. Hi all. I had an unfortunate collision today. I'm fine but the bike took a hit. I'm looking for a right lower cowling and a passing lamp assembly. Nothing on eBay. I checked the OEM listing and they want $245 for the lower. I haven't been able to fine the passing lamps. If anyone has any or knows a good place to purchase please let me know. I'd like to get her fixed ASAP. Thanks for any help.
  11. Dont understand this at all, it will idel but when you give it the gas it just bogs down Put the beather back on and it is fine
  12. Any ides on alternate cooling hose sections (there sure are a lot of em!) while I have my scoot apart vs buying expensive OEM parts. How many have had problems with coolant hoses or am I Just being anal. They look fine but are over 20 years old now.

  14. It seems like the connection between my J&M headset and the lower cable (cable-to-headset) is misbehaving. If I just let the cable hang from the helmet, tunes work fine, but the intercomm is very intermittent. If I tuck the cable inside of my jacket, it seems to relieve the tension from the connectors, and every thing work fine. What kinds of ingenious ways have you all come up with to insure that the connections stay solid? ALmost seems like I should be able to replace the connectors with some type of twist-lock connector...I'm even considering a hook&loop (velcro) fix..
  15. Well, the highschool that im in called in a snowday today. The weathers supposed to get really really bad today, and we probably wont have school tomorrow. Which is all fine and dandy, but i probably wont have the bike out today. Which Sucks
  16. I know I am stating the obvious to all here but it needs to be said again. I belong to several MC forums and none, and I mean none, are anywhere near the caliber of this one. The other sites have areas such as Politics/Religion, NSFW areas and others that more often than not turn into slugfests with members being banned and members ignoring one another. Hell, I even exploded recently at someone who basically said the police officers killed in Washington asked for it. Don has done a fine job with this forum and I hope it's around forever. Kudos to him as well as to the mods for keeping the place running sharp. The members here are quick to come to the aid of others and no question looking for advice ever goes unanswered. I am proud to be a member of this fine group of men and women.
  17. I think we have all heard how SilvrT (Rick) has said from time to time how he is gettin old and isnt moving as quick as he used to. Well, I have proof that he is just fine and doing better than the rest of us!!!!! http://memeo.madeupmemories.com/?mId=31985348 Brian:rotfl::rotfl:
  18. The previous owner of my '03 RSMV lowered the front by moving the forks up the triple tree one inch. He did this because he was shorter, but I am 6'3" and thought that I may like the bike a little higher. Really, for no particular reason as it looks fine and seems to handle OK as it is. I saw on some other postings that some say the bike handles better with the front lowered like this. If so, I am fine with leaving it as it is. Mine is the only 2nd Gen I have ridden so I have nothing to compare it to and would appreciate any input. :scratchchin:What has been your experience? Does the bike handle better with the front lowered? Thanks! Don
  19. This is completely unrelated to motorcycles but this family is so helpful to others I thought I'd give it a shot. I have a 2001 ford focus zx3 (2 door hatchback). Its been missing at idle to the point where it will quit running once in awhile. Changed plugs, nothing. Changed wires, nothing. Changed ignition coil, nothing. When you start it it runs fine but once it warms up it acts up. For instance I get in car for work and drive 5 minutes. Stop at office to get paperwork and back out to car. Jump in drive another min. and then it starts this problem. Or I can start car and let it idle for ten minutes and it starts doing this. I just unplugged the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold and it ran rough for another two min. and then idled fine ever since. It's been doing so for at least 15 minutes now. So question number one. Does the oxygen sensor only tell computer when something wrong? Number two. If unplugged doesn't computer really think somethings wrong and turn a check engine light on or something? Thanks in advance.
  20. I apologize that the chat room was down last night. There was a problem with the server that the chat is hosted on. They have moved it to a new server and it appears to be working correctly now. The new server has a new DNS address so it is possible that it could be up to 24 hours before everybody can access it. I just tried and got right in but it may depend upon how often your ISP refreshes their DNS servers. Hopefully everybody can get in but if you can't, just give it a little more time and it should be fine.
  21. I know I have been away for awhile, but I have a problem with my 2nd gen. I went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't start. It turns over, but will not stay started for more than about 15-20 seconds. I started it at full choke and it seemed fine and then just kind of fizzled out, it seems like a fuel problem. It cranks fine, and turns over fine the 1st couple of trys, but just won't keep the rpm's and when I cut the choke back it dies. I have not had any problems with starting until this and it had only been 1 week since I last rode with no problems. I have about 80 miles on this tank of gas and thinking that it may be the fuel filter or a batch of bad gas. Any ideas?
  22. My 89 is a little lean at light throttle. When I test rode the bike before I purchased it, it appeared to be fine. However, when I started to service it, I found the air cleaner was probably the original and extremely dirty. I installed a K&N and then I notice that if the bike wasn't completely warmed up it would bog a bit at light-medium throttle. If you opened the throttle, it was fine. Idle was fine as was response off of idle. The lean condition was only noticable for a minute or two after you pulled away with a cold engine. The bike has about 37,000 miles on it now, and runs great. I've set the idle mixture and the bike idles's great now. Of course, I've also synced the carbs. Whatever is wrong is on all 4 cylinders because when it bogs, all 4 bog. Of course it tends to fart out the exhaust when this happens also. When I bought the bike it had cut out mufflers. I've replace them with stockers and also replaced the baffle chamber with a known good one. My gas mileage is a touch less than 40 MPG @ 75 mph indicated (72 GPS). When I rode a little slower for a tank, it gave me 46.5MPG. This is with loaded bags and 2 up. This morning it was about 55 degrees F. here and the bog was really bad. I believe I need to raise the needles a little, but I see that Mk II's aren't adjustable as the 1200's were. I know everybody else has rich carbs. My 83 was on the rich side. You'd start than one up with a little choke in cold weather. Then pull away with the chock on a bit and turn it off after you were moving. It would run great no matter how cold it was. Not this 1300....Anybody else had this problem or have any ideas?
  23. I can turn on my radio and the control functions just fine but I'm not getting any sound out of my speakers. I switched between SP and HS and nothing. When I plugged in my headset and switched to HS I can barely here music coming through my helmet speakers. All fuses are fine. I don't see anything loose under the fairing which is split right now. HELP!!!!! Thanks in advance, Carl
  24. I bought my bike new in 9/05. Never had a problem with the battery. Went to maintenance day @ Freebirds and installed a mic mute. Parked bike for a week after getting home. Bike wouldn't start because the battery was dead. Bought a new battery and it worked fine for several weeks. Rode all day one saturday and parked bike until the next saturday. Battery dead again. Called the dealer that sold me the battery and they asked me to bring it in and they would test it. The battery was so dead they couldn't get a reading so they replaced it with a new battery at no charge. Shock! The new battery worked fine. I hadn't ridden the bike in a week so sunday I started the bike and let it run a few minutes and switched if off. I could tell the battery was fine sunday because as soon as I switched on the bike you could hear the fuel pump ticking fast with full force. This morning I went to start the bike to ride to work and the battery is dead. Could I have done something when I installed the mic mute to cause this?
  25. About a month ago I filled the tank (maybe a little too full) and ever since then the gauge flashes on and off every time the tank is full. After riding a few miles it straightens out and works fine until the next fill. Anyone seen this happen.... maybe time to go see the dealer
