  1. I have been hearing a rattle and maybe a slight exhaust leak out of the ole girl. And for those of you who knows my ole girl, SHE DOESN'T RATTLE. For some reason my rear exhaust clamps will loosen up every now and then. Am I missing something or is there a bigger problem coming down the road? After tightening them up, everything goes away......
  2. Hey everyone, OK, I bought a 1983 VR a few months ago. Love it! Runs great! Looks good. But it had a bit of an exhaust leak. I thought that it might be something with the rear manifold pipes running down to the h-pipe (or whatever its called.) So I went to e-bay and picked up the parts I needed. The only problem is, now that I've put them all back together, the leak is even worse. I don't know what to do now. I'm very frustrated. I've taken these things off and put them back on mulitiple times. I just don't know how to seal them any better. Should I use something like J-B weld? Or is there something else? I've looked over the forum but can't seem to find anything that will help. ~ Frustrated in Ohio
  3. Hi, Got my new to me 1990 Venture 1300 this weekend. I like almost everything about it other than the exhaust. The collector rattles and the mufflers are REAL quiet. You can hear the collector rattle over top of the sound of the exhaust. I saw the threads about gutting the collector and the mufflers. Both projects look beyond my pay grade. I have been looking for some type of aftermarket slip-ons but cant find any. Does anyone know of any good sounding mufflers that will fit? On my last bike, an '86 V-Max, I put on a set of Supertrapps, I would like a sound like that. Thanks for any info, Brian
  4. Looking for slip on exhaust for my 2006 RSTD. Does not seem to be many available for this model. Looks like BUB and maybe Sampson are my only options. Are there any more Manufacturers out there? I did run into a guy whose Venture sounded pretty good who said he pulled off the ends, drilled some holes. Any ideas?
  5. Is there a gasket that goes on the exhaust for stock mufflers? I wanted to put the stock mufflers back on this weekend just for a change and can't remember. I checked the manual and the diagram doesn't show one. If there is i must have lost them when I swapped the last time.
  6. Anybody replace a front motor mount on a 97 Sebring convertible? I need the quick way to get it done so's I can go to Squids next weekend instead of dealin' with this!!!!!! BTW, crossover exhaust pipe nuts look pretty frozen, don't want to get into that situation!!!!! Any suggestions are 'preciated!!!! Gonna go eat dinner and look at repliess when I get done. Thanks in advance, Dan

    RSV Exhaust

I am new to E-Bay having just set up an account and Don was kind enough to point me in the direction of a set of stock mufflers for sale that would fit my '06 RSV. I actually only needed the right one, but was outbid when I would have gone higher. So, I am looking to find a right muffler or a pair from someone who has installed after market pipes. Thanks, Bill
  8. ok so as many of you know i've had terrible MPG and power issues with my 84 venture royale. originaly thought it was my carb being gummed up or needing a good sync. well the otherday I was just about pulling my hair out trying to get the carbs synced. No matter how much I turned the screws the back 2 carbs always had may more suction then the front two carbs. I found the back 2 exhaust pipes could move freely just by my hand this leads me to believe my exhaust gaskets are none existant at this point. my question is i've heard that the gaskets are very expensive if you buy from the dealer, is there a good source to purchase these or anyone know of what material they are made from and if it would be cheaper to make my own? I'd love to get this bike running right i can't afford the MPG i'm getting with it right now. any help is greatly appreciated and desperatly needed.
  9. hey all just got a set of 06 harley road king slip on exhaust and not sure but do they have catalyic converter in them and if so do i need to remove or can it stay in pipes and can i run them with stock set up on 07 RSV Thanks Brian D.
  10. Need HD exhaust mounting brackets anyone have any for sale prefer aluminum if possible. I already have the chrome clamps. I know someone makes them but dont remember who. Thanks
  11. I have a small exhaust leak on my 1st gen where the mufflers attach . Both sides have a small leak. The clamps are tigtened down as far as they will go, but the mufflers are still loose and I can move them by hand. Any suggestions on how to get them to tighten up? Is tere supposed top be a gasket at this connection point? Thanks for any advice.
  12. My 05 Midnight has started a weird habit of having an exhaust pop on each up shift through the gears. Just a single pop on each shift. It it also has started to pop a little on decel but nothing real dramatic. Nothing loud. Any ideas. I do have the HD Road King pipes with the drilled out rear baffle plate and 4 drilled out holes in the inlet cone. Moakster
  13. hi all will 07 harley road king exhaust fit 07 RSV, was wondering since i thought the roadking was fuel injected but then again maybe it doesn't matter, anyway anyone using these on RSV thanks Brian D.
  14. could someone here please tell me hoyw to get the factory tips off of the exhaust on a first gen??? i have know idea...
  15. Some folks here have noted that there is quite a bit of heat buildup around the feet and floor board areas of our 2nd. Gen Ventures due to the placement of the exhaust pipes. I was wondering if anyone has tried wrapping the inner exhaust pipes with the insulation wrap you see on some choppers and sport bikes? I recently read a magazine article that discussed doing this procedure on a Honda ST1300. - Has anyone attempted this? - What was the result of your efforts? - Would there be any potential negative effects? Thanks for the thoughts. MickO
  16. Well today I managed to put my wheels back on the bike after getting new rubber last weekend. Due to the position of the bike on the lift I could not replace my rear shock links with the shorter leveling links. So I have to do that another day. Putting the wheels back on wasn't too hard (remember this is my first time doing this work). Black Owl stopped over and I recruited him as my second pair of hands to help out a bit. I also bought stock slip-ons so I can replace my BUB's. Wouldn't you know it I need muffler gaskets. The BUBs didn't use gaskets. The stock Yamaha's do. No one in town is open the rest of th weekend. Drats. I was hoping to get it done and put back together today. Wanna bet no shop in town will have these in stock and I will have to order them in on a slow boat from Japan. I WANNA RIDE!!
  17. Folks, I introduce you to the new V-Max, well, at least his exhaust signature... Crank up the volume before clicking the link. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/lifestylehome/home.aspx
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Jardine-Exhaust-YAMAHA-VENTURE-VENTURE-ROYALE-83-93_W0QQitemZ230244427433QQcmdZViewItem Anybody seen this on e-bay? Any experience with Jardine? Don't know what they will go for, but it could be a good buy.
  19. I am currently re-installing a stock exhaust system on a 1984 Venture. When I install the rear header pipes into the head 'stubs' and secure them with the clamps, the header pipes still move freely back and forth. This seems crazy to me, and I am reluctant to continue assembling of the rest of the exhaust system until I can confirm this is OK or figure out what I am doing wrong. Can someone set me straight? Confused in Michigan.....John:confused24:
  20. Can the copper exhaust gaskets be reused? I thought I saw somewhere on here a thread about reusing copper washers, etc but you have to anneal them first. Of course, I can't find the thread now. Anyone have any experience with this? The story is that I had to tear the exhaust apart on my 84 to repair a hole in one of the headers. The old gaskets look to be in good shape so I figured I'd try to reuse them if possible. Thanks!
  21. Greetings. Can anybody tell me where the idle mixture screws are located on the 28mm Mikuni carbs (1998 Tour Classic)? Just cant seem to find these little buggers. I am having the exhaust popping and would really like to get rid of it. Have already run through a full tank of new fuel with cleaning additives (carb and injector cleaner) and it still pops. No holes in or around the Y pipe weld and all exhaust gaskets seem to seal perfectly. I plan to install the Dyna 3000 module in the near future but not at the moment. Any help or/and advice would be very much apreciated.
  22. There is a small heat shield on my exhaust by my right footpeg. It had cracked and been fixed by a PO, but it is cracking again now. The shield seems to be part of the larger exhaust, and so not easily replaceable. Given that it is chrome, is this something that can be welded back together, or is it a soldering job, or is there some other fix like JB weld that might hold this together. Thankfully, it isn't highly visible, since getting that chrome look back may not be easy either.
  23. As you can see, have a couple of problems. If I could get the first one, radio, fixed, I probably wouldn't hear the exhaust leak. LOL Problem no. 1 no sound from the speakers. The radio comes on, lights the station no.s up, but no sound. Have checked to see if headphone switch is off and it is. Actually can hear static, but no music, and volume doesn't do anything. Need help!! Problem no. 2 exhaust leak. Know where leak is, it is at the joint where the muffler attatches to the header pipe, right side. My question is, there was a thread about using copper pipe for a gasket instead of paying Yamaha's rip off price for the gasket. Have searched but can't find it. Does anyone remember what I am talking about?? Thanks Don H.
  24. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0892.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0889.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0890.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0888.jpghttp://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/rack/th_IMG_0891.jpg So...I didnt mess with the alumaloy after all...built this out of some aluminum I found at a salvage yard here. I know, its VERY ugly, but no-one will see it except with the tent on it. I needed something to hold my tent, since I hate to carry it up high on the bike. The rear lighting is still visible, and if I decide to strap on a cooler sometime, I'll add some lighting. In the pics, it looks like the exhaust is blocked, but actually, the rack is above the exhaust stream..I checked! Thanks to all who contributed.
  25. I took my 89 Venture out yesterday and took if for a short ride (hey it was 45 degrees out here!). Anyway when I got home there was some smoke coming out from under the bike. Upon further investigation, the motor in the back was covered with oil and the exhaust was smoking from oil dripping on it. I went back to the garage and the floor was spotless, then went out and shut the bike down, left it there for about 10 mins and got about three drops on the driveway. When it is running, though, I can see a drip about every 20 seconds onto the exhaust. It is definitely in the rear of the motor. Any ideas? Thanks Jim
