  1. Ok.....I still have one thing that irks me about the looks of my bike. The tops of the dash panels where they mount to the stays. Both of mine are damaged at that spot only. Otherwise they are in fine shape but the right side has both holes broken through and pieces missing. The left side only has one damaged. Since I got the bike I have used chrome washers with bib washers under them to cover the damaged area but would like to do something to cover the whole top of panel with an angled lip to drop down to cover the area above the speakers. As there is somewhat of a curvature there a simple bend with flat material won't work cleanly. I like to use thin gauge SS sheet of possible to somewhat match the chrome trim pieces on the sides of the fairing. I could live with a painted material if it come to that. Spacers would be attached to the back to fit into the recess in the plastic to avoid bending the trim into the hole. Any suggestion? I know I can't be the only one with this damage. Mike
  2. I'm new to this whole venturr bike. I've learned a lot just reading from you guys and was wondering ddoes any one have a recommendation for a particular brand of cover? I have a 91 venture royale but I also need to cover my wifes 97 shadow. The building want go up till next year. My wife and I have also kicked around the idea of putting them in self storage for the winter. any one with expieriance in that wrought. Thanks folks as I do appreciate this site, It's helped me tremedacely already. David
  3. Please let me Apologize for the delay in the shipping of the Second Gen. Clutch Spring Upgrade Kit I am offering in the Classifieds. Because of the unexpected volume of orders, I have purchased all of the clutch springs and clutch cover gaskets that were in stock at the two vendors I do business with. They are, as we speak replenishing their supplies and will ship the springs and clutch cover gaskets to me as soon as they arrive. Some members have received their kits, but many have not and I assure you that as soon as my shipments of clutch springs and clutch cover gaskets arrive, I will ship the remainder of the kits purchased. To be honest, I didn't expect this overwhelming response to the ad. I am making every effort to fill these orders as quickly as I can. I have even gone to the two local Yamaha dealers in the area and purchased Clutch Cover Gaskets at RETAIL price to get some of these orders out in a timely manner, to the point that I have depleted the supply of gaskets in my area, and still have not been able to fill all of the orders. If this delay is a problem for ANY VR.ORG member, please contact me, and I will refund your money ASAP! In closing, I only ask that you give me a little more time, I found a GREAT deal on these parts and am trying to share it with my fellow VR.ORG riders. For the delay, I again Apologize! Earl
  4. ok im looking for a battery cover for a1986 yamaha virago xv700 is this the left or right side cover? a old girlfriend called and just had to ask me if i can find one? and im not sure what side its on i found a chrome on on ebay. but it just says left and right covers for 60 bucks??? sorry guys and gals what can i say im not a parts salesman.
  5. Just curious, is there a "shortie" or "quickie" version of a cover that you can put on the bike...most of the covers talked about in the other thread were full covers that covered the bike from front tire to back tire. I am more interested in the fairing and then maybe just the seats and/or speakers. Or what about 2 separate covers one for the back and one for the fairing? I mean, I don't care if the rest of the bike gets wet. Or even on sunny days, I am still really on interested in covering the top of the bike. Does anyone else want a cover similar to this...or better yet, have one/ Thanks, Wally
  6. I've read a lot on just about everything here. Have received a ton of info and appreciated it all. Made a lot of upgrade decisions and changes from all the info here. All has been great. Put on some Baron Risers over the past couple of weeks along with some other upgrades which I'll write about later. My question is, I have no problem with my cable lengths and the risers but, the risers hit the black plastic switch cover prior to the stops. Does anyone else have this issue and if so, what if anything have you done to correct it. Thanks
  7. Well being the fine, well educated, expert on motorcycle engines that I am (NOT!!!!) I have developed another oil leak. I solved the first leak by finding some loose bolts over the second chrome cover (smaller one) on the left side of the engine. There were three bolts on top of the engine block behind the rear cylinder that were loose. Well the leak is back but not as bad. Well being the genius that I am I figured the smaller chrome piece on the left side was just a cover and I needed to take it off in order to see what was under it so I could check and make sure the bolts are all tight. WRONG! As I was taking the bolts out I started on the left and went counter clockwise until I got to the one at 6 o'clock. My allen wrench turned freely. No big deal since I thought it was just a cover that I would take the bolt out and tighten it when I put it back in. When I took the bolt out I noticed unlike the other bolts it had a copper washer on it. Now I'm thinking to myself why would this bolt have a copper washer and the rest not. Almost like it was trying to keep something from leaking. Well I srugged my shoulders and said to myself I'll worry about that later. I started to pull the cover off and man o man did the oil start rushing out. :yikes: I quickly pushed the chrome cover back on and started cleaning up the mess. Well I think I found my leak. I will put all the bolts back in and cross my fingers and hope that was all it was. Now for the final question. Do you think it would hurt to use the blue Lock Tight on the bolts to keep them from coming loose again. The one with the copper washer is the main one I am concerned about. Harry:doh:
  8. gaskets for 1984 xvz12 and is there an easy way to change them thanks Gord
  9. I've been in and out of the threads, and noticed a handful of members do some fabrications... Here's my request... First; I'm a cheap S.O.B. - If I can find a way to do it just as good, for less cost- I will. Second; I don't make much $$ to begin with, so I like to keep what I can. Third; I'm cheap. As I was... My 97 RSTC doesn't have the fancy airbox the 2nd Gens have, and there's NOTHING between the cylinders to even mock a filter housing. I think it looks funny. I've seen the Mini-Teardrop covers online: (http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=40&Category_ID=108&manufacturer_ID=167&product_ID=26174&related=short) My question is, if anyone has these, or something similar, can SOMEONE please make a bracket that mounts the same way, or maybe even make the whole cover? I can't stand the empty space, and I'd love to find a way to mount something there, even if it's an empty beer can. Am I asking too much?I Just can't justify spending $150 on a blank cover.
  10. i have checked what has been suggested and what i can see all is where it is supposed to be and doing what it should. the fluid is a medium colored carmel color and is full. not having worked on a bike in awhile, i could be missing something. on a stand, if i go from neutral through the gears (engine running) the tranny makes quite a bit of noise as i progress up to 4th. it made enough noise, i went back to neutral and turned it off. i changed the engine oil about 60 miles ago just after a rear tire change, which is good. I have been having shifting problems since. on a side note while changeing the engine oil and i don't remember why i was going to do this, but i loosened a cover to see what was behind it. the cover is on the left side, back one. i got the bolts loose, but the cover did not want to come off. i got distracted and wound up finishing the oil change. then i cranked the bike. while idling in neutral, i remembered that cover. it was barely oozing oil. i tightened up the bolts and cleaned the 2 drops of oil. I don't know what is behind that cover, but that may be my souce of trouble. any suggestions on adjustments? after i post this, i am gonna go to the stealer for clutch fluid in case changing the fluid is suggested. the previous owner used yama fluid for everything, so i know what to get. I will check this thread afterwhile.
  11. Anybody know off hand what the inch pounds torque spec is for the clutch cover bolts? I am wanting to say 100 inch lbs, is this correct? Thanks, ALL DONE WITH MY CLUTCH UP-GRADE!
  12. i was wondering if anyone here had an extra center cover forover the battery and gas tank.. mainly need the gas door, but the whole piece would be better.. for an 86 venture.. 83 will also fit...
  13. I have done a little more research on this leak, but still dont know what the cover is called, see the pics. The first one shows the cover, and the second shows where the oil is coming from after removing the cover. I changed the valve cover gaskets a few weeks ago. It wasn't leaking until after I did this. I don't see any oil in the coolant, nor is there any coolant in the oil. Whats coming out of the hole is pure oil as near as I can tell. I'm running BelRay EXL 10-40 motorcycle oil. I don't remember the name of the coolant, but it was orange and wasn't cheap. Is it possible that I have a blockage and thats why it's leaking out of the hole? I have an air compressor and was considering blowing 30-40 psi into the hole where the oil is coming out to see if I can dislodge whatever it is. Or is this not a good idea? Any suggestions would be a help.
  14. This may qualify as a silly question...but I'm asking anyway. Does anyone put the clear plastic cover over their GPS screen? I am reluctant to put it on as there might be some coating on the screen???? It is a Garmin 660. Thanks for input.
  15. WooooHooooo I acquired an off white whole hide of leather today and I would like to make a cover to keep my knees from rubbing the tank. Anyone have one off their bike that would be willing to make me a paper template and mail it to me? Thanks in advance. The white leather looks good on the bike. I will be making a few other covers too and of course will have pics when they are done.
  16. I am looking for a clutch master cyclinder cover so that I can mount my tachometer to the top of the clutch. My brake side has a switch box already it so it has to go on the clutch side. ANYBODY got one and how much? And I need a picture so I can figure out a mount. Give a shout if you got one. Thanks much from the popcicle of the north, Minnesota.:yikes: Bubber
  17. was gonna change the stat and the dern bolts are seized. tried some heat, beating a screw driver and wd-40. im afraid i will break the housing or the cover. does anybody have a extra one laying about?????
  18. Did anyone else notice the RSV on the cover of the new Metric JP Cycles Catalog. Its not the bike in the center but you see the fairing on the right side near the building. Ive seen the bike before and I think it was here. It is black with a real flame style paint job. Who is it?????
  19. I want to have a Butt Butler Mod, But my seat is ripped at the seam on the front, Rick can't repair it so I need a cover or a seat. I have checked eBay and what I found were in worse or the same shape as mine. I can get a cover for $100.00 + BBM $70.00=$170.00 + shipping, So dose any one have a seat or know where I can get a cover? I would like to get the coast down if I can. Thanks, Dale
  20. At last some photos. I have started to prep the original paint for a fresh glass coat. I need to do something about radio No cover! Breaks are great. Just needs a polish. Man, I just love the seat!!!
  21. As I slowly get to the end of my restoration, I find another thing here or there that causes my project to slow down... I got the carb and ignition issues worked out! Replacing the diaphragms fixed the "lean" condition. Cleaning the plugs fixed the ignition issues as I had to use the enrichener to keep the engine running before fixing the carbs. However, I now noticed some very nice cracking in the rubber "half-moons" plugs on the valve cover gaskets. I also have noticed a little oil on the engine...not much, but enough to know that the valve cover gaskets are going. What parts do I need to replace when doing the gaskets? What components do I need to remove to access the valve covers? I already have ALL the plastic off. I will also be removing the carbs (again) soon to replace the carb mount boots (very tiny leak found). I've heard that 2nd Gen valve cover gaskets will work on 1st Gens. Is this accurate? Thanks in advance! WHCC
  22. I have placed an ad in the 1st Gen Classified section for plastic covers that will fit in the Pilot screw holes in the carbs. Plugs I will ship are black, not the silver shown in the second picture below. Keeps dust and dirt out of pilot screw hole. These can be removed and replaced. Set of 4 covers for $5.00 including first class shipping. Gary
  23. The rubber grommet that the front tab on the false tank cover fits in on my '86 VR is in pretty bad shape. Anybody got any idea where I can find a new one? Every now and then the tab will back out of the grommet and I'll see the tank cover start to lift while I'm riding down the road. It causes a feeling that is somewhat less than comfortable. Thanks for the help.
  24. Woke up hungry this morning craving my famous big breakfast. Take two biscuits split them, on one put a sausage patty on each half put some of my famous sausage gravy on; now lay 2 scrambled eggs on top. Put home style potatoes next to this pile and cover everything generously with more gravy. Butter and jam on the 2nd biscuit and yum happy tummy. Nap time now. Rod
  25. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a tour pak bib for my 07. JC Whitney used to carry a nice one but don't any longer. I don't want the leather cover, just the bib style. thanks, Josh
