  1. Even if you don't ski, this clip is worth a view. A new video technique called tilt shift. http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/2pJCXX/www.geek.com/articles/geek-cetera/whistler-blackcomb-miniaturized-tilt-shift-2011017/
  2. Under the front left carb the "rubber" "intake manifold" seems to have a crack. This looks like it will be a very ugly switch. I have looked in the online manuals and parts fieshs I could find and it seems this part is not pictured. So what is it called and how do I get knew ones.... should I change all 4 if I am going to take all of it apart or is it repairable?
  3. I ride the bike to work most days, but luckily it has been cold here for the past month. Today I was headed West sitting 1/10 of a mile from my house, making a left turn onto my road. I had to wait for a few cars going East, so I could make the turn. A Saturn pulls up behind me and as he's stopping, a Jeep slams into his rear, knocking him into my rear. I was pushed forward a car length or more, and it knocked everything off of my sun visor and all of the pennies out of my ashtray. This was in a Ford F150. I called my wife to tell her I'd be a little late getting home, and when I told her what happened, she said "it's a good thing you weren't riding!". As soon as she said it I thought my knees would buckle. I hadn't thought about it before then. Be careful out there!
  4. Today I called and ordered a Hopnel Tank Bib, one place told me they no longer stocked them. The next place told me they are no longer making them & could no longer get any. I called another dealer, he called his outlet. None, no more coming. Same story! I guess I waited too long. I called one more dealer and they did not have any. The guy called back and said they had 3 and thats it. The will no longer will be made. Can anyone shine more lite on this. Yes, I ordered one ASAP! Aprox $60 and shipping. This just for anyone thinking about ordering from J C Whitney, they do have any nor will they get any. If you want one, call around fast. They all wanted to sell me the Yamaha one for double the $$.
  5. I rode in a Christmas Charity Ride this morning, with about 650 other biker's ...................and look what Father Christmas gave me "Best Decorated Bike" [2 years in a row] I was called a mobile tree by someone

    This sux

Well, my oldest Son's house caught fire today. It started out on his deck. We got the fire trucks here pretty quick. My adrenaline was pumping, so I just grabbed the line off the truck and told them to charge it, and we got it put out before anything inside the house burnt. He lost a wall, that we had to open up, and the deck. No damage to contents, except for a futon that was sitting by that window. Pipes will probably freeze now, since the power is off. Luckily, everyone got out, although he and I both got lots of smoke. It's a rental house. We called the landlord, and then moved their stuff out to the sheds, and down to our house. They'll be staying with us until they figure something out. The Fire Chief had the gall to ask me if I wanted my old job back...lol. I said no thanks. Everyone is safe, and all is well for now...except it's snowing like crazy. Kinda puts a damper on their Christmas too.

  10. I have a discontinued piece of chrome cover that I want to put on ebay but I don't know what it's called to label it correctly. It's the piece that goes in place of the stock horn on the 2nd gen. Kinda upside "L" shaped?
  11. Well I was wondering if anyone who sent in the rebate has received the MasterCard gift card back from Avon yet. Sent mine in well before the deadline and havent seen a thing from them. I even called and left message and nothing so far. I thought I would check and see if anyone has received theirs yet. And as a side note, when I called I ended up getting a hold of Mickey Thompson Tires. Guess they are associated with Avon now. Thanks Rick F.
  12. I have a Reese Backpacker trailer and the original prop for the top was missing when I bought it I am trying to find some sort of prop for the top. I can only put it on the front so it has to be sturdy I thought about the gas filled ones like on my truck top but it is not strong enough for just one, anyone have an idea I have called all the trailer stores around me and no one has anything. I will make a prop out of wood but I would rather have something built in. Tom
  13. Just wanted to thank everyone for putting up with me this year. My chat buddies for keeping me laughing and company at night. The folks who sent PM's and emails as well. The folks who called just to check up on me. Rocket called every week when he could. ADC (Arthur) for helping me out when I had the water leak. Ruffy and Jean for letting me stay at their place for the Florida meet. Sledgehammer and Rene for letting me visit just for the heck of it as well as the times we all showed up to go to a meet. Blackjack and Janice for letting me stay when picking up and dropping off Muffin in June, as well as taking care of the SS bike while he was gone. Grey Ghost for all the helpful info. The Sleeperhawk's for everything this year. Now for the one person who got stuck with me all year, Riderduke. I spent plenty of weekends at his house with his wife, daughter and David. The fact that Felicia didn't mind me riding with him to all the meets. Also for letting him come down and fix my electrical problem this past year. Can't thank them enough and there are no words to express how much it meant to me. Oh and if you really miss me too much David I'm sure Jeff would loan me to you.:crackup: Now I don't want to get too mushy, but it was a great blessing when Jeff signed up on this site. The friends we've made are truly more like family. Without this bunch this year would have dragged on and been very difficult to get through. Oh and I wasn't that much trouble now was I? So big hugs and kisses to all Margaret
  14. im not sure what its called but its like a luggage rack that goes into the receiver or trailer hitch..... i need to know where to get one thanks all lisa:12101:
  15. any of you ever try a concealed carry holster called the "cell Pal"? I checked the site and it looks like it might be very useful...just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it. http://www.concealedcomfort.com/index.html
  16. You gotta have long arms to reach all the way from Texas to Georgia, but you did it. Thanks for all your help. I was going to take it out on the road today, but got called into work before I could hitch it up.
  17. Fairings For those of you who are interested in history, here's where the word "Fairing" comes from. Early in the development of aviation, it was realized that the important thing for an airplane was to have a lot of lift and very little drag. An enormous amount of drag happens if you lose laminar flow - that is, if instead of smoothly following the surfaces on the airplane, when the air breaks away from the surface it will form spinning vortices which tumble around and wreck the airflow all over the place. This is called turbulence. The exact same problem was known from laying out the keels of ships, for water flow around a ship hull is a lot like air flow around the skin of an airplane. This problem was analyzed by mathematicians. They learned something: they could predict the points at which the air flow (or water flow) would break away from the surface and start to become turbulent. A curve which has no breaks in it is called "Continuous" by mathematicians. A curve which has no sharp corners in it is called "smooth" by mathematicians. Smooth means the first derivative of the curve is continuous. At any given point, a curve has a radius of curvature. If there are no sudden jumps in the radius of curvature, the curve is called "Fair." A Fair curve has a continuous second derivative. It was learned that turbulent flow always starts at a point on the skin where the curve has an abrupt change in the radius of curvature, that is a point where the curve is not fair, or a point where the second derivative is discontinuous. So, you can't just stick a wing onto an airplane fuselage - the sharp corner where they meet is not even smooth, much less fair. The designers found they had to locate places like this on the aircraft skin and cover them with some smoothly curved sheet metal. These pieces of sheet metal are called "Fairings." http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Images/dc3.jpg Notice the fairings on the wing-fuselage joint of this DC-3. I jumped out of one of these once, and it was working just fine at the time. In the '70's, when gas mileage became important, automotive companies quickly hired some aircraft designers to help them make their cars have less drag. Shortly after that, the automotive companies started putting pressure on the computer programmers to make certain that all the curves on an automotive body were fair. Some companies became quite obsessed with this: honda at one point announced that they had determined that surfaces which had a continuous fifth derivative were most pleasing to the eye, so they wanted their cad/cam systems to only design curves which were smooth, fair, and also had three more levels of derivative continuity. I don't think they got very far, as very few programmers can handle the mathematics of c5 continuous surfaces. Of course, until about 1970, there basically was no such thing as computer aided design. To lay out the curves for the hulls of ships and large bombers, boeing many years ago built a building with an unbroken wooden floor which was bigger than a football field. They would clear this building, and draw a coordinate graph on the floor. Then, the designers would tell them exact points where they wanted the hull skin or aircraft skin to be. The engineers would hammer nails into the floor at these points. They would then take very long, very thin strips of oak, soak them in water, and tie the oak strips to the nails. The oak will naturally form a shape of least energy, which happily enough is a shape which is both smooth and fair. The engineers would wait for the oak to dry, then trace the lines on the floor of the building. This then became the master drawing for the bulkheads. The thin strips of wet oak were called "splines," which is why today curves in mcdraw and autocad are called splines, although essentially none of the programmers know this either. Most of our bombers and battleships in WW II were laid out in this building, because this was what we had. In General Relativity, Einstein assumed that the universe itself was curved, but in a smooth and fair fashion. His reasoning: anything else would have been mathematically ugly, and he didn't believe God did ugly things. Since then, several people have made alternative theories of gravity where the universe does not have to be smooth and fair. None of them have worked worth beans, however. It seems God does in fact have a sense of aesthetics. Later, it was pointed out to Einstein that his theory included the possibility of points where the universe was neither smooth nor fair. These points are called singularities, or more popularly black holes. Not all scientists believe in black holes, and Einstein was skeptical.
  18. I'm sure you all will hear about it soon enough! Last weekend I went on a ride with Big Tom up to Lake Ontario and when we got there for lunch I turned off the GPS and put it in the trunk. Well, when Earl called me this week for our address that wasn't coming up on his GPS, I ran out to the garage and got the GPS out of the trunk, turned it on, and gave him the coordinates over the phone. Unfortunately, it didn't find itself on the satellites yet when I gave him the coordinates! He called from an area which should have been about an hour away, and two hours later we were wondering what was taking soooo long! He called a second time asking me if we lived anywhere near the lake. He mentioned some street names that were totally unfamiliar to me, so, I gave him the address for an Auto Zone up the street from us and he told me he was an hour and a half away, on Rt 98 at the lake! Rt 98 comes into Arcade so I told him to head south on the route and I wil come north to him. We met up with them about 45 minutes later, took 2 other couples along for the ride. I finaly figured out what happened on the way home after we stoped for diner, which is another story...
  19. I have met some really sharp folks in my life and I have also found that many of these people are poor spellers. I am reasonably good, but I still screw up sometimes. Several years ago I downloaded a site called ieSpell that is free and it works very good. So. for those of you that have a tough time spelling, you ought to give it a try. RandyA
  20. Anyone remember what the part number is for the tow only shift arm for a 2nd Gen??? I know I read on the board some place where Yamaha makes one..... I'd do a search, but I don't even know what they are called....
  21. On my way to work thursday morning I had the bad luck of encountering a wayward raccoon. I saw him running straight down the center of the road so I slowed down and proceeded to go nice and wide around him. I got right next to him and he zigged right behind my front wheel and just barely hit underneath on the left hand side of the bike. So I stopped and got out the flashlight to see if anything was damaged. Turns out that little hit shattered both of my lower cowlings. Called the insurance and they were more concerned with me not getting hurt than any damage to my bike. Kind of nice dealing with someone like that for a change. Anyway, called around to check on parts and what a suprise that was. $817 for the pair of green lower cowlings and they have to be shipped from japan.
  22. Lots of members have used, out of warranty Garmins, called their support and gotten free replacements. I took a chance based on this w/ a Streetpilot 2730 on e-bay in that the remote works (if you hold it less than an inch from it), but the touchscreen doesn't. I called their tech support and tried a couple things. Nothing worked. All they said was because it is a discontinued model and out of warranty I would have to pay $170 up front. I can ship it to them and if they can't fix it then they can choose to send me a refurb. Not what I was hoping to hear.
  23. The hubby and I got to take our first ride of the year over to the river (Mississippi) Sunday!!!:dancefool:Anyhoooooo.....stopped at the Kwik Trip in Alma, WI to fuel up before heading home and as we are pulling out, another Midnight Venture pulled in to gas up. Was it you? We also took a break on County Road F and a blue Venture drove by on HWY 37 that was riding with a (what are those bikes called that have 4 wheels and spiffy looking?) Just asking as we don't see to many Ventures over there. Anyway, it was a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful day for a ride.
  24. We are back from our trip down south (for the Ulysses Club rally and AGM.) First week we spent setting up the gearshop, and second week we spent 9-5 selling the merchandise! All went well--sold $12,000 on first day, and same again on second one. Weather really hot during the week and the leg swelled badly. That wasn't the worst of it though 'cause I got sick starting in the first week!!!!! Diagnosed with (wait for it) ADULT WHOOPING COUGH have damn near coughed myself inside out Dr. said it's also called the "100 day cough" Oh, goody Geez, I would just like to deal with one thing at a time!! Hope everyone is doing okay over there, did I miss anything exciting????????
