  1. They have K&N filters for 6.94 and I was womdering if anyone ever has ever dealt with them.. http://www.123autoparts.com/searchitem.epc?lookfor=KN303
  2. I have a 2003 rsv, the question is do rear signals have running lights?. My fronts are lit all the time, has been like this since I bought the bike. Do yours burn all the time?
  3. I've got a 09 rsv that i bought brand new I'm now closing in on 65,000 miles mostly highway miles with a few floor board dragging racing down the back road miles what should I expect out of this bike as far as a clutch life? I bought this bike because my other one has a ton of miles on it and its not the most comfortable with plans of getting the gen 3 when they "or if" come out really don't want to rack up the miles just to stick a clutch in and sell it P.s clutch works fine at this point
  4. I was out prowling the city on the '84 last evening and wandered into the area where the PO that had my bike before I bought it lived. On a whim I thought I'd swing by and see if he was around. I couldn't remember the house but I knew the street so off I went. As luck was with me I saw him turn around and look as I headed up the hill towards his place. As I pulled into his driveway he was just staring at the bike. All he said when I got off was "That can't be the same bike?" Well, yeah it is. How many other '84 Yammys have ya sold? But the day he sold it to me he dropped it off on a trailer, not running and many parts off the bike in boxes. I could tell he hated to let it go but I only knew a little bit about why. The only time after that was the early summer after I got it he stopped by and I had it back together, street legal and running. He was impressed it was even running at all. That was 2007. His Dad had bought the bike new in '84 from a local dealer. Had it all that time until he got older and wanted a lighter bike but he kept the Venture for the long rides but he passed away shortly after that. The son kept the '84 as it was part of remembering his Dad. It sat in his garage for 9 years unridden, but cared for. Over those 9 years he would find leaks and remove parts to try to fix then. Never got them done and parts went into boxes. I'll thank him for that, they were all there. But we spent an hour talking about the bike. He was shocked at the changes I had made and all the modifactions done. He was happpy the bike was being cared for and ridden. I've put over 30,000 miles on it since I bought it. His Dad would have been happy about that. But it made my night as I knew I had made someone happy, other than me, that be bike was still road worthy and being taken care of like it had been for all those years by his Dad. I just wish the two of them had some decent screwdrivers between them. I mentioned the stripped out Phillips heads I had found on the bike and the son laughed and asked me how many I'd had to replace. "About all of them." Mike

    New Toy

A couple of years ago, I traded our 2004 Kia Sorrento for a new 2011 Kia Sorrento. The '04 was a 6 cylinder but when I bought the 2011, you had to go with a much more expensive package to get the 6 cylinder so we settled for the 4. It was fine for the most part but I bought a small fishing boat a while back and even though it's only a 16 1/2 ft. deep V aluminum boat, it gave the little Kia a hard time. So....I decided to upgrade the Kia so something with a little more pulling power. Believe it or not, gas mileage is close to the same when not pulling anything and this actually gets much better gas mileage when towing. So....here is my new toy. Avalanche LT, 5.3 V8, AWD, all the bells and whistles except for leather interior. Bought it used though. One owner, GM certified, new tires and etc. I think we are going to really like it.
  6. Anybody see Judge Joe Brown today, it was a case about a guy who bought a 1st gen that needed more work than the guy was prepared for, but Judge Joe Brown told the guy he should have saved a few more bucks and bought a real bike like the Harley his wife originally wanted. He was hatin on it for awhile. They showed lots of pictures and the Yamaha name in big letters. It was a good lookin silver bike that looked loaded, probably see it listed pretty quick after that aired.
  7. I have a J&M headset for my 700 as it doesn't use a boom mic but no headset for the 900 I just bought today. What do you have for your EXO900?
  8. Of the place in Ohio that has salvage parts? I bought from them but can't remember it.
  9. Hello everyone. This is my first post on your forum and I am happy I found it. 3 weeks ago Friday I bought an 08 Boulevard C50T, now I am looking at getting an 08 Venture. (Didn't take us long to realize we bought the wrong bike). My wife loves to ride, and the Venture is hands down the most comfortable bike we have sat on. I had my mind set on a GoldWing until we went to a Honda / Yamaha dealer and had a chance to sit on both. I was surprised at the Venture...so now I am shopping for one. I could use your help in my search though. How much do Yamaha dealers usually come off of MSRP and what is a fair price? I know they list at around 17.5 range. Thanks for your help.
  10. bought a cabin in northern michigan. going there on april 1st, and ready to ride the back roads and up to mackinaw! bought this garmin factory refurbished with 2 year warranty, case, and screen protector for 159.00. its model 1490lmt. installed a West Marine 12v accesory plug into #6 of skydocs fuse kit. works perfect! now i must think of a more permanent mounting solution. but, for the meantime, im going to use 550 cord as a lanyard....just in case.
  11. In case you know Al in Jacksonville FL I bought his 07 RSV and drove it back to my home today north of Atlanta GA (about 370 miles) My first time to drive one (I've been riding a honda vtx1300). I've been looking into getting an RSV last 6 months or so. Main reason for the RSV was a better ride for the wife, and a few extras for me (cruise control, radio, etc.) bike did great. Drove back roads to get used to it before I got on the interstate, didn't take long, good part of the way back is state highway anyway. I was double extra cautious, didn't want to be famous for wrecking a bike bringing it home. (I know of a guy that did that one time, poor fella) My first impression of how the RSV rides is what you might get if you were to mate a vtx with goldwing, seemed to have traits of both. Got some minor adjustments here and there to make it fit me better, looking foward to many miles on it and I know where to come if I need help with it.
  12. We bought a new home the other day. Should be done in August. It will be on the other side of the car. Gonna be a long summer. Brad
  13. check out todays woot! i bought 2! charges AA and AAA.http://www.woot.com/.
  14. Steamer and RocknRobin "sold it, sold it, sold it" and we "bought it, bought it, bought it." It was a bit of a sloppy, snowy 13 hour day, but when all was said and done we really didn't give hoot about what the weather had been. We got home with two new additions; one a bike the other a friend. What more could you ask for? However the next time we do a trip thata way, it will be sunny and on just 2 wheels. Let the Ventures begin....
  15. Got 85K miles on my RSTD. When I had a rear tire replaced a few weeks back we notice the rear disk was about end of life. (Yes I use the rear brake,, cause it's there!) Anyhow, so, I will need to get one in the future. Anyone bought one in the last year. OEM or aftermarket? How much for the part? Other? Thanks, Mike G
  16. Ok, I've been gathering parts for my R1 upgrade for my '84 for a while. Got the calipers a while back and a set of MKII rotors have been hanging on the wall for a while. I had bought a set of MKII forks during the summer and they were in such bad shape I scrapped them. The PO, before they were listed on eBay had beat the daylights out of the lowers and scarred the upper so bad it destroyed any chance of ever getting a seal to seat again. So this is where I'm confused today. I bought another set of forks off eBay listed as off an '87. The pics looked ok and all the parts seemed to be there. But, when they arrived today I took them down to clean them up and strip them down I noticed they were different from the last set I bought. The anti-dives (electric) mount on the front of the fork, not the side like the MKII pics I have seen from you guys in the past. Then what caught my attention was that there was no cinch bolt on the one side. The outer section is threaded for the axle with the shoulder for the axle to ride on in the inner section. Did I miss something somewhere? I thought the axles were the same of both MKI & MKII. But the AD's on the front threw me. Does the MKI axle thread into the lower or am I going to need a different axle? The flanges for the R1's line up fine. Every thing else looks like it should. So tell me what I am looking at. Mike
  17. I know most of the discussions on here are regarding WARM gloves, but I bought a pair of gloves about 6 years ago at a rally. They are short soft leather gloves...and I love the gloves. But I have tried to find them online to no avail. I went to one of my local bike shops (Drasco Trading Post) and found a pair almost like the ones that I bought 6 years prior. They are Deerskin Gloves made by the NAPA Glove Co. These gloves are very well made and have a soft inner liner. They are very soft and extremely comfortable gloves, and I just wanted to take the time to recommend them to anyone that is looking for a LIGHTWEIGHT, SOFT LEATHER glove...you won't be disappointed with these (or the price). Here's a link... http://ridefashion.com/pgroup_detail/30641_Napa_Driver_Style_Deerskin_Motorcycle_Glove Just an FYI, I don't like the fingerless gloves....if and when I wear gloves, I prefer to glove the entire hand. Wally
  18. Being retired I have a lot of time on my hands so just out of the blue... How many of you are on XBox Live and what games do you play? I bought my XBox after testing out a used GTA4 game I bought on Ebay for my 16 yr old & I was hooked. I Play Grand Theft Auto 4 Saints Row 3 Red Dead Redemption to name a few, I know my son has a lot more games. (Call of Duty type shooters) Hey if enough of us are online maybe we could share usertags & set up a party
  19. Hi all, thanks for letting me post. Bought a 99 royal star venture couple months ago. always had a little problem being "cold natured". Since it's cold, I decided to change oil, etc. and try to chase down problem with starting. It is getting worse. I have run battery down several times. Here is what I know: New plugs, getting plenty fuel, good compression, good battery, everything else seems in order. Pulled rear new plugs and no fire/spark. No loose connections at coils. When bought, key was bent slightly, straightened that out, but ignition never felt correct. Also, it's getting worse as I said, now it wont start at all. Thank you for any help in advance. I am limited on technical knowledge.
  20. Just bought an 05 Venture 2 weeks ago and its too quiet. I bought a set of Monster Ovals that fit Harley touring bikes. I have been doing alot of reading up on this procedure. I bought the 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 chrome clamps that everyone uses to get the slip ons to mount to the stock head pipe. My problem is that once I put the clamp where it is supposed to be there is about 1 1/2 inch of head pipe showing between the stock heat shield and the new clamp. I can slide the clamp all the way to the heat shield and cover this gap but then the slip on wont fit over the stock header pipe because its too long. Anyone else run into this before?
  21. I bought this 84 venture and was looking at the carbs and noticed one of the slider springs is completely gone. where can i get one and how much are they?
  22. It's an 88 Venture. Owner is Trader. Bought it from somebody in Chicago this year. Ran like crap when he bought it. Smelled rich, but plugs don't show it. Wouldn't idle without the choke on. Thought to do a carb tune on it yesterday. Found #2 cylinder wasn't firing. Cleaned the carbs with spray cleaner and a bit of air. Eventually got # 2 to fire. Still ran like crap. Tried to do a carb tune. ( I have a homemade one that has 1 vacuum gauge with 4 shut-offs that works just fine when ever I used it before and tests out just fine right now). Got no vacuum on # 2 or # 1 cylinders. Could get vacuum to show on 3 and 4 but the screws had to be turned to their max. Tried adjusting the throttle cables, worked better but didn't do anything for vacuum. Checked for leaks in the manifold boots, around the intake, around the airbox, and anywhere else that might be of interest. Called Squidley out of bed and found out what Lonna was up to,,, and it wasn't making cheesecake, so we talked instead,,,, thanks Lonna. Went out and convinced Steve (Trader) that it was time to get a compression tester. I bought it, he paid for it and then left it here???????? Compression tested to 180 on all four cylinders. engine was warm, not hot. Switched the vacuum lines form side to side to make sure things worked right. Expected to see #3 and #4 drop in vacuum, but 1 and 2 still didn't have any vacuum. Far as that goes, they seemed to maybe even have pressure because the needle seemed to keep wanting to go past the stop post. Set the screws to where I thought they would be most beneficial, (no vacuum showing anywhere) put it all back together, fixed the battery lead and put the tools away. End result: garage is cleaned up, bike runs without choke but still smells rich and idle screw is turned into the limit, Steve is on his way home and hasn't come back yet. I am now the proud owner of a brand new compression tester. AND WE NOW KNOW THAT 1ST GENS DON'T REALLY NEED VACUUM TO RUN! Now the big question,,,,,,,,,,,WHY???????
  23. Loraine I decided it was time for a old man ride and bought the trike! http://i54.tinypic.com/2u8f72t.jpg
  24. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Oil-Filter-Genuine-Part-Made-Japan-/140616854793?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20bd6aed09 Found this item on ebay. A Yamaha oil filter for 22 bucks PLUS shipping. Just how stupid does the seller really think we are. But I still wonder if anyone has actually bought one of these from him. 1 5GH-13440-00-00 ELEMENT ASSY, OIL CLEANER $7.65 @ Stadium Cycle in Texas.
  25. I bought this Yamaha backrest for my 86 VR. The ad said that it was for an 83-84. I hope its also for an 86! http://www.raymondstacy.com/backrest.jpg Now I don't know how to mount it. Does anyone have a closeup of how it mounts or is it simple enough to just tell me how its done? Thanks! Ray
