  1. Going to have to do a clutch job here soon on the 2nd Gen . Trying to decide on the Barnett conversion with OEM fiber disk , or PCW HD Clutch Spring kit with extra friction disk ? Have nearly 30K on the '06 , 8K pulling trailer . I'm starting to fill a little slippage in the clutch when I do a hard acceleration . I can baby it and it's OK for a mild trip . But why take a chance on making the it worse . I heard PCW is cheaper in price to do , but I want better quality (not knowing which is better), so cost is not an issue . I have not done a clutch job in over 30 years , so kinda out of the loop , you might say ! TIA BEER30

    win 2000 pro

This is for you computer guys. I have been using win 2000 pro for years and never had a problem, no crashes or problems with any of my programs ever. The computer runs great but now the browsers and anti virus software does not work. I have an OEM XP disk. I want to up grade but can't get it to load. I tried to format from the bios but can't find the right menu. How do I get to the DOS promp to format the drive so I can re load the operating system or upgrade from the disk. I have backed up all my drives on an external hard drive. HELP Rod
  5. Problem solved! Bad eyesight lead to alignment problem. Corrected and works fine now. I know I have seen step by step instructions on swapping out the clutch basket but I can not find it. It may be on the other site I'm not sure. My 2001 Venture has gone from almost no whine when I bought it with 4,500 miles on it to screaming with almost 16,000 miles on it. My question is, Is the nut that holds the smaller disk basket into the larger clutch basket a standard thread or a reverse thread? I have tried with all my might to loosen it by turning it to the left. I even added a 3 foot piece of steel rod to it and it will not budge. With only 4,500 miles on it I don't know why anyone would have gone in there but I thick they did. I think they tightened it down with a lot more than 50 lbs of torgue. Non of the clutch disk are lined up as they should be. Evidently that is not important because it has been shifting fine for the last 11,000 miles. Any suggestions on which way to turn that nut and how to break it free would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Harry
  6. Got 85K miles on my RSTD. When I had a rear tire replaced a few weeks back we notice the rear disk was about end of life. (Yes I use the rear brake,, cause it's there!) Anyhow, so, I will need to get one in the future. Anyone bought one in the last year. OEM or aftermarket? How much for the part? Other? Thanks, Mike G
  7. I'm replacing the pads on my rear brake and would like a quick confirmation/correction about the thickness of the spacers. I measure the spacers between the caliper and the caliper bracket arm at 4mm and the one between the swing arm and caliper bracket appears to be 3mm. (I'd have to pull the wheel to make sure.) Is this correct? Added question. should the disk be installed based on rotation or is that subject to which disk if at all? I notice the outside pad is not flush with the face of the disk, piston problem??? Thanks! Oh, if you missed it in my profile it's an '83
  8. Just wanted to drop say hey, ive just been so busy getting back to work and catching up on things. and the bike is still down and out slowly working on the forks and putting new disk on the venture. Chelby and everyone is doing well and i cant wait to see and catch up on everyone
  9. I just removed my rear tire this afternoon and will be taking it to a dealer to install my new tire. Do I need to remove the rear brake disk for them to balance the tire? Oh yes, I do have pics on my rear tire removal...will be posting soon.
  10. Anyone know where I can get a rear disk for my 87? And is it the same as a range of other years of the Venture Royal? OEM is backordered, and wants a fortune- $900!
  11. My desk top fried the power supply. New one installed and it booted ok. 1 week of security uploads (automatic) and on restart windows loads (win 2000 pro) then freezes when IE starts. On restart (hard reboot) Error message... cannot find winnt\system32\drivers\isapnp.sys . When I try to recover with the win2000 cd it wants a boot disk A: I cant find it ( how long since you used a floppy disk). I have a external HD Western digital hard drive for a back up . I got a command prompt and got to the drive but can not open the recovery file. A long time since DOS and was not too good then. Can any one help me out. I have some work stuff that is not backed up and don't want to loose those files. I am useing my OLD laptop but it will die soon. Thanks for any help. Rod
  12. where can i buy a hitch at. are they available online. anybody expriencing a rattle sound maybe from the rear. sounds kind of like a disk pad rattle or squeak but thats not what it is. i have a 2008 venture.
  13. I bled the brakes and clutch on on my 84 VR today and took the bike out for a test drive. The right front brake was not working so, I stopped and had a look. I saw that the brake disk was covered in what I think is fork oil. It looks to me like the line that seems to link the brake to the anti dive module has sprung a bit of a leak. This means that my brake pads are shot but, I will also have to replace the faulty line. I have never worked on this area before. I think it going to involve draining the oilf from the forks and draining the brake fluid for the right front brake. Then, there is the clean up of the disk: What is the best thing to clean that with? Also, I have tried to get the dust cover off of the caliper so I can inspect the pads but was not able to get it to budge without damaging it. What is the trick to getting that plastic cover off? Or, am I into something here that I should leave to a qualified mechanic?
  14. I'ts time to order new rear break disk, last year on the way from Minesota's PiP rear inner pad is broke and touch metal to metal, for quick fix i'm replace pads only, but rotor has some damage and inner pad has almost twice wear then outer one. Found good performance break dealer at Chicago motorcycle Show, and they ask me is it my rear disk floating or nonfloating:confused24: I have no idea what they asking me for. This two are listed For Royal Star Venture DF 463 W, and DF 498 W Please can you help me to figure out wich one is right disk for rear brake Thaks.
  15. I have usually changed my own tires using standard tire irons since the 70s. With this method, disk brakes don't really get in the way. However, I have recently started using a manual tire changing machine (from Harbor Freight). This works great, and the effort is much less than with tire irons, but so far I have only used it on my rear tire. Since the rear only has one disk and the wheel can be put in the changer with the disk down, it is not an issue. However, I am not sure how to deal with the dual-disk front wheel. Does any one here have experience using a manual tire changer with a dual-disk wheel? Do you have to remove one of the disks? Thanx! Goose
