  1. skydoc told me about changing my forks to next gen so i can add r1 calipers and bigger rotors. has anyone done this? i would like to see some pics and write up. right now , my forks bottom out, the air line is missing, and brakes are weak at best. i was considering just doing the whole "shabang".
  2. I bought a set of Venture risers from Pinwall to put on my 96 RSTC. I have the bars off and the lower nut from the old risers. I can't seem to get the old riser off. I've tried to tap it from the bottom with a block of wood and hammer. And I also tried to turn it with a socket in the riser where the bars go. It won't budge. Any ideas?
  3. Following Freebird's Tech section instructions, I have the fork springs out (Plastic spacer - did Yamaha use a plastic spacer?) and the bottom bolts out. I tried to remove the lower tubes as instructed, but while they broke loose from the "pressure hold", I seem to be hitting something solid and metallic right at the bottom before they come apart. Anyone know what I'm hitting? I don't want to keep slamming the lower tubes against this without knowing what's happening. Thanks Andy __________________

  5. A local leather shop made this bra for me. His suggestion was to fasten the bottom through the bottom tank bolt rather than use clips. I am very happy with it. Only cost me $50.
  6. Hey all, its been awhile since I last posted, probably since the last Meet and Eat in Rome with Eck and Blackjack. Lifes beens nuts here, but anyways, I am pretty sure I have blown my rear shock. I have noticed oil under it and it seems my ride has deteriated to the point that I bottom out on most any bump and sometimes the bike feels a little squirrley in a curve, kinda like a cocker spaniel wagging its tail! lol anyways, I found an OEM for about 550 but I really wanna make sure that I ain't replacing it for nuthin! I have heard that I should not bottom out the shock and I know we've been packing a few more pounds, but it does bottom out a lot,and it seems to float a bit? I plan on a rear tire as well if I can find a venom on sale, hoping to hit the Keys in a few weeks so I have my hands full! Hope all is well with all and we'll meet up again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Does anyone make one? Have been looking but to no avail. Seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to do: An aluminum channel same shape and thickness as the bottom of our stock windshield about 3 inches wide with receiver lugs in a channel on top side. top piece would sandwich bottom of stock windshield on top side and fit into reciever on bottom side with a quick release. Could also make a interlocking finger pattern between the two with one set screw. Hardest part would be getting the perfect bend. Love my windshield on the cooler days and interstate riding, but when it gets to 90 deg... At slower speeds it sure would be nice to take it off ... and possibly put it in fabricated shell that attaches to your luggage rack to protect it... Help I need more Wind! er... let me rephrase that... Help I need more AIR... LOL
  8. Anyone have a 1300, 1200 may also work, block that is split in half, I need some help on the location of the two oil nozzles in the care halves. When I sent block to machine shop, top & bottom, because they cleaned them, I took everything out. Including the two small oil nozzles & tossed them in a baggie. Well when cleaning stuff I realized they were different and I can't tell which one goes in which hole. 1st picture is attached of two nozzles. Left one is brass color with phillips slot, other is silver with straight slot. 2nd picture is of case top, and 3rd is of case bottom, locations for these. The 88 parts fiche indicates they both go into the bottom case. The service manual doesn't mention them that I can find. And, the VMax is different. The motor DVD mentions them but doesn't show them. The 83 1200 fiche shows them going into the case where I am 99.9% sure they go, but doesn't show the difference. Gary
  9. Has anyone just changed the fork oil on a 1st Gen without removing the forks.? I know there is a drain plug at the bottom of the forks.
  10. I'm trying to install a brake speedbleeder on the rear of my 89 VR. I've removed the 2 side bolts, the 2 bottom bolts. the 3 reflector nuts and the 3 bottom screws for the lower chrome piece. The Bag is loose but can't seem to wiggle it out. The center reflector screw is giving me some challenges. What is there left for me to do? Also the bottom, front there is a metal bracket revitted to the floor can someone tell me what that is for?
  11. I hope this helps anyone getting ready to order a windshield. This is just info. I ordered an F4 17 1/2 extra wide "no vent" last week and it came last week. Fast shipping:cool10: A mistake was made and they sent me a windshield with a vent hole but no vent. I called and they said they will ship me another one and they would pay for shipping both ways. So far so good. I got my windshield yesterday with in three days and installed it today. Now comes the info for those looking for a new shield. I had ordered 3 years ago a Wide Yamaha shield. It was too tall for me so I cut it down to 17". The measurement was from right behind the gas cap straight up to the top of the windshield. I could see over the windshield with about 3" to spare. I liked it. I am 5'10 1/2" If you look at Yamaha's windshields in their book, you will notice they have a black haze at the bottom. That is there for a reason. I know this because. The F4 that I installed today doesn't have that feature. With out it you can see down behind the windshield and see stuff you ought not to see even with the chrome piece installed. I took the chrome back off a took a black magic marker "for now" and colored the bottom and it helped. Come spring, I will mask and paint it or what ever? Also the 17 1/2 shield now measures 22" high form behind the gas cap to top of windshield. It is also 1 1/4 wider each side than Yamaha's extra wide shield. This may not be the so called "right way" to measure but, it will let you know how I measured mine and I was happy with the 17". I will have to wait until the weather breaks here in Michigan before I will know if I like it or not. I already miss the black haze at the bottom and I can always cut the shield down if I don't like looking through it. Just food for thought.
  12. "Passion for Work and Motorcycling" is the name of a recent article I wrote for http://www.thetentacle.com, a local commentary site. It's a two-parter, with my comments on motorcycling on the bottom half. http://www.thetentacle.com/ShowArticle.cfm?mydocid=4022 Nick Diaz Middletown, MD
  13. I'm terrible at electrical work, but luckily I found someone that is very good and reasonable in KC. I don't have to do the work, but I need to select the equipment. 1) Rear lights. I have a 2000 MM with the standard back lights. I want more light. I just have the single red light in the back. Can anyone tell me what equipment I might buy for the back that would give me more riding lights and fit solidly on our Gen 2? Pictures would be great. 2) I read a lot of discussion about LED's on the front light and radio static. I would like to have better light on the head light and the riding lights. What is the bottom line on upgrading lights? I want dependabilty and good lights. I have just removed all my LED's from the blinkers because the cancelers didn't work and that seemed a lot more dangerous than the benifit of more light on a blinker. Thanks for the help. Again, I don't need wiring directon just equipment and bottom line reccomendations.
  14. And good help is hard to find these days. http://jokemail.wordpress.com/2010/06/25/missing-cat-by-david-thorne/ Ok, the first link I posted had some issues I guess. Incomplete loading and small print. I looked fine last night when I loaded it. But keep the kiddies away from the comments on the bottom of this site. Some people can't enjoy a funny story without having an issue.
  15. This is the most detailed and amazing display I have ever seen! Although this video tours a good part of the display, check out the other video's at the bottom of the screens also! The airport is just amazing. Some of the video's are in German...but there are english subtitles http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/exhibit/video/4-minutes-wunderland/
  16. I have recently realized that most folks don't know what side their biscuit is buttered on. To prove my point I'm launching this enquirery. What side is your biscuit buttered on and why. Do you butter your biscuit on the top, the bottom of the top, the top of the bottom or the bottom and why? Enquiring minds want to know.
  17. Their is a cover, mid-cylinder, with a phillips screw (seemingly) holding it. I have a flow of oil coming from bottom right side of it. What is this cover? Any thoughts on the leak?
  18. OK whats the trick to getting the bottom radiator hose loose on a 2002 RSV. There is no room to get my fat hand in to work on it.
  19. Eased my bike down on some gravels (dropped it). Dinged the bottom edge of my right saddlebag. Do they make chrome strips for the bottom edge of saddlebags that I could use on both sides to hide the ding. I know I could have someone repair it, but the chrome might look good in my effort to make the bike look retro. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  20. What the heck could have caused this? I am guessing someone hit it. The saddlebag guards are not damaged. Wife thought it might be stress from towing the trailer. I have towed it 3-4 times. 1st time for a couple hours. The other times were pretty much 30-45 speeds 55 or less. So not really sure that could have done it but never know. It is cracked all the way through starting top right and going towards bottom left almost all the way to the bottom. And the other question. How to fix? Can I use some epoxy on the inside as a temporary fix?
  21. Sometimes I will get a few drops of oil out the bottom tube after a long ride. Is that indicative of anything?
  22. So after hearing everyone say how wonderful these shocks are, 2 months ago I held my nose and placed my order. I was all ready for the 'quick' change out. Old shock off in about 15 minutes (including time to rearrange crap in the garage and get bike up on jack) and as I am lining up the new shock to put it in its place I try to slide the bottom over the part on the swing arm where it is supposed to connect and what do I find? Hmmm. The U part of the bottom of the shock is too small!!! So. I take a deep breath and get the bolt through the top one, thinking I just don't have it lined up quite right or something and now that I've got it all in place (except for the bottom) I am pretty sure that it is just too small. Has any one else run into this while installing their shock? 7 Weeks and 700 bucks later (not to mention the already questionable customer service from the guy that I put my order in with - but that is a different story for a different day) - and this is what I have. I am NOT a happy camper. I hope I am just doing something wrong though... Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  23. When I am in a thread and I try to use the mark forums read under the quick links at the bottom of the page, I get the following message. If I use the one at the top of the page, it works fine. Only the bottom one does this. It's happened a couple times now. I can't say this is terribly important. Other links work fine. But I thought you might like to know. Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.
  24. Has anybody tried a car tire on the front?? Seeing as the trike does not lean as much, wouldn't a flatter bottom give more grab for turning???
  25. Is the top and bottom bearings the same on the fork head on a 83. Had to cut the bottom bearing off. This must of been my problem with the steering not going striaght. Also sould there be a seal on the bottom. Had someone come over to trade bikes. He basicly told me my bike was not worth anything.he had a 99 suzuki 500 and wanted me to give him 1500 plus my venture. thanks Doug
