  1. After a couple of close calls recently, I decided to get a better horn. Bopped over to Harbor Freight and snagged a Wolo "Bad Boy" (Strebel clone). I've got the electrical part down (played with Trons in the Navy...), but I'm not sure about the mounting. I'm pretty sure I can pull off one of the stock horns and mount the Bad Boy in its place, but I'm concerned about heat from the engine, so I'm considering mounting the horn inside the fairing. Thoughts? Thanks, and Y'All ride safe...
  2. She, my bike that is, and I are finally getting a Yamaha shop close to home. Grand opening this week end. Starting Friday and going through Sunday. Now the other she in my life, might think this is bad for us, but Naaahh, not me. http://www.caverunmotorsports.com/ Fuzzy
  3. Been having a lot of pain in my neck the last couple of weeks and it's gotten so bad I finally went to the Doctor today. Yes you guess it, another surgery coming up. They took an x-ray and the look on the Doctors face as he came in said it all. Two vertebrata that you could see at the base of the neck have collapsed onto each other and he fears there is more below the shoulder area the x-ray doesn't show. They are setting me up for an MRI so they can see just how bad it is. I knew about every 5 years I would have to have surgeries to extend the rods in my back as the vertebrates keep deteriorating but they started at the bottom of my spine and have been working their way up. Will know more after the MRI and consulting with the neurosurgeon. At least this time I shouldn't have to ware that awful brace for 4 months. Crap, I just didn't need this right now. Vent done.
  4. I have been having some low back pain now for several weeks, I just got over a bout of Bursitis, which was very, very painful, I had an appointment for followup from that today. While at work today I was leaning up against a table in an office just resting and all of a sudden something pinched really really bad in my lower back and I almost hit the floor. I didnt really think much about it and took some pain meds. Later I starting noticing how painful it was to walk and everytime I put weight on my right foot it hurt my back like hell. So I went to the Dr. as scheduled and told him what was going on and he examined me and sent me for some x-rays. When he came back in the room the cheery smile was gone from his face as he sat down to show Charlene and I the results. First thing was I have scoliosis in my lower back, a little higher up signs of arthritis, and then the real bad part was a slipped vertebrae that was causing the pinching and pain. I couldnt believe there would be that much. So now I have to go back next week to a spine dr. and have either an MRI or CAT scan. No new pain meds cause I am already on them and they aint working, so he prescribed Steroids, in massive dose, went to get it filled and its backoredered from the mfg. Nobody had them, now I have to wait another day for the Dr to change the script. And I am also going to physical therapy to see if that helps..........Now I am seeing some of the same Dr.'s that Charlene was seeing for all of her problems...............Cant catch a break:bang head: All of this and Vogel 2 months away!!!!!!!!!!!!. :crying:
  5. I LOVE MY JOB! If you don't laugh out loud after you read this you are in a coma! This is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a bad day at work think of this guy. Bob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana . He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister. She then sent it to radio station 103.5 FM in Indiana, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won. ~Hi Sue, Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had a bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all. Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job. As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wet suit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this: We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000 piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a delightful temperature. It then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose, which is taped to the air hose. Now this sounds like a darn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints. What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wet suit. This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working in a Jacuzzi. Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my butt started to itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse. Within a few seconds my ass started to burn. I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit. Now, since I don't have any hair on my back, the jellyfish couldn't stick to it, however, the crack of my ass was not as fortunate.. When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into the crack of my ass. I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with five other divers, were all laughing hysterically. Needless to say, I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make three agonizing in-water decompression stops totaling thirty-five minutes before I could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet. As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my butt as soon as I got in the chamber. The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't **** for two days because my ass was swollen shut. So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your ass. Now repeat to yourself, 'I love my job, I love my job, I love my job.' Whenever you have a bad day, ask yourself, is this a jellyfish bad day? May you NEVER have a jellyfish bad day! !!!! Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift. ~

  8. So I'm at a red light and I see in my rearviews this little red Suzuki car barrelling up behind me. It was apparent to me this gal was NOT paying attention to her driving as she was jacking her jaws on her cellphone. I hit the throttle and got out of her way just in time to avoid being seriously rear-ended.....And of course she blew the red light big time! She got t-boned so bad her vehicle was pushed across 2 lanes of opposing traffic and right onto the sidewalk. I parked the scoot in a safe location and helped her get out of her vehicle and sit down. No serious injuries except for a nice laceration on the side of her head from smacking her door frame. She was more concerned about the location of her cell phone than anything else! I don't even want to think about how bad it would have been if she had rear-ended me at the speed she was going! Gave the LEO my statement and I'm purty sure I'll be called to Court for the lawsuit she's gonna get slapped with by the driver who nailed her. Keep yer head onna swivel and check those rearviews often my friends! Boomer....who sez unleashing a group of pygmies in the Courthouse could prove to be pretty darn comical....
  9. I got a call at 11 last night that my elderly mom had taken a bad turn. The family rallied around, the parish priest gave her her final blessings at 3 this morning and she went off to be with god and my father at 7 this morning. 11 children, 43 grand children and 27 great grand children and all of the spouses will now just have our memories. Hug your children for me will ya........
  10. Had chaps made by them, to protect my bad legs from the heat of the day. Only got mesh on the backs. Now I have the Harley I'm feeling bike heat bad on the back of my right thigh...due to it being stiff, and the angle straight down. Contacted Lorna to purchase some heat shield fabric....won't let me pay! She is going to hem it for me AND mail it to utadventure's address -- at her cost :clap2::clap2: Nice folks:sign yeah that:
  11. Left the house 6:00am for work this morning and got about 3/4 mile when a big doe ran out in front of me. I hit her about 50-55 mph.She hit into the fairing and then rolled up onto the saddle bag and back seat.I got lucky and kept the bike up. And as best i can tell didnt get a scratch on the bike..Some blood and alot of hair. She got up and ran into the woods.Put a good scare into me and certainly could have been bad. Thanks Chris:fingers-crossed-emo
  12. I'm trying to figure out how to fix my ongoing turbulence issues. It really is only a problem on the interstate about about 70mph plus. I have put on the largest Clearview Shield they make (without the curved top), their lowers, Buddy's deflectors, and it still was pretty bad on the interstate. It is like getting hammered on the helmet going down the road. 15 minutes of this and I have a headache. At 60, it is all just fine, but sometimes we just would rather be traveling on the interstate so we can get somewhere faster. Going across South Dakota is one of those types of places. Anyway, I decided to try to fix this. I have seen on this forum people taking a seat belt cushion and sewing in magnets and sticking along side the tank. I does seem like the turbulence is a result of air coming around the tank. I was hoping for something more permanent and something that doesn't look as bad. So, I took an old pair of Nomad lowers that I had put on my wife's Nomad a few years ago and with cable ties and duct tape, put them on the Royal Star. Out for a ride and it seems quite a bit better. I went in as many directions on a very windy (diagonal winds, 22mph with gusts to 30mph) and I think this might work. So, the next thing is to build my own lowers that would like these, but don't hit the windshield or the lower fairing when the forks are turned. Here is a picture of my prototype: http://data.netconx.net/tom/prototypelowers.jpg I'm hoping that anyone who has done this type of thing before can chime in and let me know the do's and don'ts or any other suggestions as I attempt to do this. Thanks. I haven't posted a picture here before, so I'm not sure how this will turn out. If it is bad, let me know. Tom
  13. Had an off and on rainy ride from Woodstock Ont. to Fort Erie this morning.Went to Motorcycle Swap Meet---mostly Harley Davidson stuff(buying parts lost?????) but bought set of 3 leather small bags to fit between bars and windshield on my Road-star for my trip(hopefully to Maintanance Day) and Out Back coats for the Phantom Wife and I.Stopped by Wizard765's place but he wasn't home so had coffee at Tim Hortons and drove to MarCarl's and visited for a while before riding home still in the rain. Luckily I had tonight off or it would have been a lllooonnnnggg night. Was not a bad ride at all very refreshing.
  14. Over in Victoria today helping our niece move. Beautiful day. Lots of hot rods and bikes on the road. Saw a black/red 2nd gen a couple times. I was the guy on Superior street with a truck full of furniture watching you go by. Bad news...she is moving in with us for a few months Good news.....she is a nice kid and loves to bake. Bad news......looks like I might be gaining even more weight.
  15. Have a '99 Venture and the factory horn died. I'm looking to install a Bad Boy where the factory horn was mounted on the right side of the bike. Can any one give me some help and / or suggestions as how to do it and what to mount it too? Pictures would be really nice...heck pictures would be wonderful!!! Thanks, George (StarUmp) Portland, Oregon:confused24:
  16. I went on a PGR mission today and ended up in the ditch. I was behind another bike that froze in a harpin corner and lost control with me behind him. I had nowhere to go as I was committed to the corner and did not want to hit him so I ditched it in the ditch. Now for the bad news, I need a front lower left cowling, and a radio exterior shell. the radio works but the case is severely damaged. Any one have any of these??? The other bad new is a cracked rib or two and two scuffed and brused knees and of course the pride issue. I did finish the mission with 200+ miles so i kept most of my pride. Any help on the two items would be appreciated as I am heading to Freebirds MD and at least need the radio repaired. I will need to paint the bike but don't know if I can accomplish this before MD. I guess I need to donate to the pot now!! WHERE???? Thanks:depressed:
  17. Well Im here. Actually got in town Monday. Nice weather and looking forward to a great time and a lot of racing...............calling for bad weather Friday, but it should pass. I am suprised at how few bikes I have seen here.
  18. I just did my clutch up-grade and what a difference. Makes me wonder how long this darn thing has been slipping, I can't remember when it last ran like this. She really hooks up now. The cluth disks did'nt look too bad, a little blued. I sanded them a little (cross hatch) and put it back together, NICE! BIG THANKS! Carl:thumbsup:
  19. I have a 2005 Royal Star Venture. There were 2 times yesterday when I turned the bike on, my radio, my clock, and my trip odometers were all reset. Is this indicative of a battery going bad, or may I have some other kind of electrical problem? I bought the bike used about 14 months ago, and not sure how old the battery is. Thanks.
  20. I picked up my new Flanders bars today. The task of swapping them over begins this weekend. Shouldnt be too bad especially with the write up on here.
  21. You remember way back when that you helped me out on the 4 1/2" Drag Specialty driving lights I was trying to mount on the brackets you made? I sent you the frame mounting brackets while you were still in MI and you added a gusset to them to stiffen them up. I think those brackets got more miles on them than my bike did that year. They ended up in Texas when you headed south and you and Ponch finshed them up and even powered coated them for me. Well that project died out as the lights were pretty heavy and big and caught a lot of wind and they would shake so bad going down the road it would knock the filiments out of the headlights. I gave up and went back to the smaller and lighter lights. For a while. I liked those DS lights. So back to the drawing board. I think I've nailed it. I fabbed up a set of prototype braces out of aluminum tubing and installed them on the bike with the DS lights. No more shakey at all. Even at highway speeds they are solid. Finally. So now to make a set out of SS tubing and finish this up. They don't look too bad and do clear the lower fairing and the foot wings with plenty of room to spare. That was the whole problem before. No where to really mount any type of brace that would clear everything. I'll go with function over form on this one. So your efforts to help me out were not wasted. It paid off in the end. Thank you once again. Mike
  22. Woke up this morning to no water in the house.....Went into the basement to checkout our well pump to find that our 80 gallon pressure tank ruptured during the night....yep, flooded basement again...at least my new sump pump was working just fine..not to bad except that the new tank and installation will cost me $850.00.....YIKES..THANK GOODNESS MY PLUMBER WILL LET ME BREAK IT UP INTO THREE PAYMENTS... ..DRAT YOU BOOMER AND YOUR PYGMIES....
  23. up date on diaphragm prices from sirius consolidated with venture rider.org order is 69.99 for 4 plus 6.oo air mail or13.25 ups. up 9.99 on diaphragms and 1.00 on air mail. still not to bad when you need what you need ! i am not complaining mind you just passing on the info.
  24. SO, here's the new issue. When my '87 is hot I get a gear clashing / crunch from the lower left as I am sitting on the machine when I hit the start button. This happens one out of four starts or so. Is this the starter clutch? The starter seems to be engaging and disengaging fine but the crunch is bad when it happens I saw the write up on starter clutches and it looks ugly so I want to attempt to confirm before popping covers off the engine. All the best! -Jim
  25. Someone called me this past Monday night to talk about the lights I just added and hit me at a really bad time. I didn't catch who it was. The phone rang just as I had just put dinner on the stove and then a (former) BIL stopped by with a car we were buying. It just snowballed and I needed to postpone the call to attend the immediate things happening in the kitchen. Didn't mean to be rude. Would be glad to chat about the lights (or anything else). It just hit at a really bad time. Give me a call this weekend if you would still like to chat. Will be in the garage (fixing cars) or in the office (doing taxes) all weekend. RR
