  1. I was looking at purchasing the J&M radio for my RSTD but I was shocked on how much they cost! I wanted the unit for dual riders and it's $359.00! Is it made of gold or something? Does anyone have any experiece with this unit and how do you like it? Can you give me the Good and the Bad about this unit? Does the am/Fm radio work good? I use a shorty helmet a Scorpin 100 and I was concerned about wind noise and the microphone...is that an issue with this product. Any information, good or bad would be appreciate greatly. Thanks mark:think:
  2. I have a friend in dire need of a fuel tank for a 1987 Yamaha Virago XV700ct. If anyone has one, or knows where I can get one, let me know. He dropped the bike on the trailer, and all it hurt was the tank, but it is creased bad.
  3. Got to take my first ride last night since last October !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dancefool::dancefool:Good news is my Virago started right up without even choking it. Bad news is hubby has to put a new battery in the Venture..........Felt bad leaving him at home but.....................jeez it felt great:banana::banana:
  4. Bike is leaking gas and it drains down onto the crankcase breather onto the left side clutch cover to the ground. I checked the plugs and the right front was gas fouled. Changed all the plugs and it seems like a new bike, quit backfiring also. I checked gas tank... no rust visible. Did the seafoam 25% of can in 3 different tanks of gas still have 25% left...man that is expensive stuff. Drained carbs and it was impossible to see what came out. These measures didn't stop the leak. I haven't taken the tank clear off and tapped the floats yet. Took it to a shop months ago and $300 later I have new jets and a replaced fuse for my light bar, I explained the problems and I asked to have the floats checked but I got new jets and a fuse. One jet was corrosion green so I don't feel completely bad, but I left the shop with the same problem, the undiscovered bad plug, and the backfiring also. This was the good metric shop in St Joseph, the others are even worse. This is a metropolitan area of 85,000, you would think there would be one good shop here, but noooooo. If I owned a Harley I would have 3 good service options, metric ...3 very bad service options. I still suspect the float was not set correctly or was stuck when I purchased the bike, a 2004 Midnight. It was a repossession and probably sat for many months. Any suggestions, I dread the thought of trying to take the carburetor apart to set the floats, never have done that before. Changing the the buried plugs took me 3 hours so a carburetor would be 2 day job for me, and my not so flexible back. Any other suggestions?
  5. Ok......nice afternoon......sun came out.....time to finish up a few things and check over some of the work I've done on the old girl before I put the bodywork back on. When I first pulled the lower chin off a while back there was a LOT of antifreeze in there. OK, not a biggie, check the bypass valve. Not bad I figurered......drips every winter a bit. I put in a new o-ring last year and thought that would take care of it. Not the o-ring. I got her outside and let it warm up pretty good. Everything was looking good. No oil leaks, running smooth, it's a good day. Then I see the steam coming off the left side of the radiator. Not bad, just a wisp. Not acceptable. Got to looking and saw a wet spot at the bottom left corner. Tighened the hose clamp at the top to make sure it was dripping down the side. Nope. Pressure checked it and it's seeping at the lower corner alright. If I didn't have the bodywork off I never would have noticed it. It's not dripping, just boils off. So.........rather than scramble on eBay for another radiator....which may be better or worse than mine......I'm looking at pulling it and taking it to a radiator shop and have them go through it. Anybody had good luck with this type of approach? Or does anybody have a good radiator they want to part with? Man I was sooooo close to going for a ride.
  6. Got my chrome all on, added another light and had her all shinned up for Sunday. But Sunday did not live up to its name and it was wet and cold. But today the sun came out and even tho I had to putt 4 miles of dirt road to get to pavement- cuz theres a bad bad mudhole my usual 1/2 mile to the pavement, I was able to get some wind in my face. First ride of the year and she felt good, bike felt strong and im excited for summer!
  7. aaaerstowr

    TCI

Not getting any readings at the TCI connectors. Following the six pin connector back to the connector right below the left side of the seat, I get similar results there also. Is there a connector other than that one. I'm pretty sure I have a bad connection, I just not sure where to look. Help aaaerstowr
  8. How hard is it to change the bearing on the clutch. What I thought was a bad fan noise must of been the bearing. It sounded like it was coming from the front.I went on a 40 mile ride today and the longer i went the more noise it made. It would stop when I stopped. Also it makes a small clunking sound when it is in ideal with clutch out.I did see it takes a 6003 bearing from earlier thread. All is not bad though i finally get a job interview after one year off of work.It is for our public service company.NIPSCO Do they count off for spelling on here throwout bearing------have no clue why i put through
  9. I went to put new oil seals in my 86 last night, and it seems the PO, or his mech had left out a few parts when they were last worked on...AAARGH! the shop manual names them spring seat, and guide. funny shaped washer and tube piece at the top of the forks. i test rode it before i knew these were missing and it didnt seem bad, but id like to find the parts, the guide does not show available from dealers and junk yards only want to sell whole fork set ups. Any one have extra parts lyin around theyd be willing to sell?
  10. Thought Id start a post that we could share some of our ideas for losing those xtra pounds. Honey-Ive started using honey whenever I can, the body can break it down better and is actually better for you then white sugar. A lil honey in my coffee and it tastes better to me now then the sugar. Honey is purely natural and good for you, with a long list of benifets. Breads are bad! But if ya love breads try Slimwiches, There a lil thinner and may take getting used to but well worth the change- 100 calories for 2 peices. Fiber! - this is a big one too-- Fiber will actually promote weight loss AND is a appitite suppresant, great fibers Ive put into my diet-- Chili's (beans), fiber 1 cereal (love it) etc My hardest time is in the evening so I eat popcorn which isnt too bad and if cravings get bad Ill have a slimwhich with peanut butter and a lil honey, hmm it is like a treat to me. I wore my leather vest to a friends this weekend and it was nice to take the snap chains off and be able to actually snap the front. Please add your tricks or ideas, anything to make it easier is a big bonas in my opinoin-- And good luck !!!
  11. I can crank the bike up with full choke and it will warm up fine but with a lot of popping. I push the choke in and it slows down, pops a lot and then cuts off. When I give it gas it will rev up but not hitting on all four cylinders. I have checked the plugs they were just replaced not even 8500 miles ago. The carbs were cleaned also at that same time. I also replaced the fuel pump because it went bad at that same time as well. I have ran sea foam through it also. I am thinking the carbs are out of adjustment real bad. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else might be wrong. My mechanice is 3.5 hours away and I really don't want to have to trailer it all the way down there if I can work on it here at my house in my garage. Thanks for all the help in advance. Robert 'TheKid'

  13. hello everyone. just a little update on my knee problems. well the apointment was to be at 2:00 i arived at 1:45. the receptionist said he,s running late. i thought oh ok there is only 5 of us sitting in the waiting room. well time goes by. it is now 3:00 im thinking this aint good if the other 4 are before me?? finaly at 3:45 i go in. the doctor says james hows that knee doing? i said you mean kimberly?? he looked at me like i lost my mind. and said whos kimberly and why you calling your knee kimberly? i said doc its like this this knee has been injured for over a year now. about that time i found a new girlfriend. well after the operation. neither one would support me. and being as i couldnt afford 2 bad things i thought i would have to at least keep the one that im firmly attached to. he said james my day has been going bad and you made me smile shots are on me. then that sucker stuck me with a big needle. so on the way out there where 2 gentlemen sitting there. they said how much longer do you think it will be for us to see him. i said hey he got a new nice looking nurse. the one old gentlmen said . hell wont be till friday. might as well go home.
  14. I am about to replace both my tires with Avon Venoms. I have seen in different threads that some are using "Ride on" tire sealant. It appears to me that it could prevent an accident or at minimum prevent one from being stranded if the tire went down quickly. Has anyone had an experience with this product? Good or bad. Would you recommend it? Is it available at any stores or do you have to buy on line? Lots of questions I know. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks JR

  16. It was a gorgeous day here today, went to mid 40s f and sunny so I decided I would go for a nice ride around the parks. Wascana Lake is just starting to freeze over and the birds all seem to be gathering at the edge of the ice, too bad I was in a game preserve, coulda reached out and snagged these geese, they were so unconcerned about people. http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/Nov282009 Brian:banana:
  17. When I bought my 1999 RSV in September, the PTT Switch on the grip did not key the CB. I finally got around to taking the switch housing apart and checking it. It is a simple two conductor contact switch. I shorted the contacts across and it keyed the CB, so I knew the the switch must be bad. After closer inspection it was just contacts that close together when you pull the switch. Used little emory cloth and cleaned the contacts up. Now it works every time. Can you hear me now?
  18. I need an antenna wire (stock). I'll buy it or trade something off my 83 parts bike (bad body)
  19. Hobbling around on my bad leg sometimes it don't come down right and causes me to be a little less stable than I used to be. Anyway going down some steps couple days ago and came down on it wrong. Jerked other foot backwards to catch myself and busted the pad on the bottom of my heel. The callus or whatever it is. Sure does make for a sore GOOD foot. I can walk if I walk on the heel of my bad one and the toes of my good one. I wobble but I ain't fell down. YET. I can't walk but I can ride if the weather would let me!!:crying: This probally don't make much sense but I got TWO sore feet now!!
  20. I overshot my 16k mile service on my 07 Venture by 4k. So, I took it in Tues. I got it back Wed, $800 poorer. I was disappointed to hear that the carbs were 'barely out of balance'. I had them save the old plugs so I could see them - they looked great! Hardly any wear at all, and the color looked right. I ended up keeping them as a spare, just in case a new one goes bad. I was hoping that the bike would run like a crotch rocket, since I haven't had it tuned in 10k - nope, she runs about the same. I could tell they had the fairing off and my handlebars had to be re-adjusted for me. Oh well, at least they said that she looks great and everything is in 'ship shape'. craigr
  21. I rode to Vass this saturday to see Steve and meet Earl from Pa. He's bumming around and fixing bikes for food and lodging until he has to go back to work or his bride tells him to come home. I didn't think my bike run that bad but Earl synced the carbs and put in two plugs and now I have a new bike. Earl has been invited to my house for steaks and lodging if he will put in the two front plugs; I think he's coming. Anyway, thanks Steve and Earl.
  22. The picture didnt come out but this battery from Batteries Plus stores is plain crap. I bought my first one last year and right out of the box it had a bad cell. They replaced it and off I went. 8 Months later it dropped another cell. My charging system was working fine but I went ahead and repalced the starter solenoid just in case. Sat morning we headed out to Daytona and stopped for gas about 5 miles from the house. Went to start it and poof...nothing. Trailered it home, pulled the battery Sunday and took it to Batteries Plus today. Yep, dropped another cell. He also informed me that it was out of warranty but he will honor it since I had such bad luck with it. I had him credit me and special order a stock Yuasa, which will take a week to get in. Only cost me 10 bucks difference. Local Yammie dealer wants 135 for his. Bottom line, while Batteries Plus bent over backwards to accomodate me, their batteries aint worth the plastic theyre wrapped in. Their Oddesy batteries were 169.00 so ill just stick with the Yuasas now. http://www.batteriesplus.com/products/59-CC/5380-Motorcycle-Batteries/340611-Yamaha/2007-DASH--DASH-1996/XVZ1300-Royal-Star/images/Product/icon/32753.jpgXtreme Permaseal High Performance AGM Jet Ski, Powersport Battery - XTAX20HL-BS
  23. I must have had a worse day...just cannot remember it now. As I was winching the 87 VR up on the Volvo semi for the trip to the Rio Grande Valley for the winter I slipped on the ramp and lost my balance which resulted in a drop test from about 2.5 feet. It landed on the right handlebar which bent severely and main fairing which cracked in several places. I guess my stupidity will cost me 5$? Not to mention much more than that in plastic repairs. Does the stupid fund accept Paypal? I have a spare handlebar but need another right fairing and the parts that hold the speaker and a right front turn signal. I'll be monitoring ebay but wondered if any here had spares for sale. Thanks. Larry
