  1. Hi Folks, sorry if this is the wrong section to post this is but i am wanting to put some passing lamps (i believe that's what they are called) on my bike and was wondering how much they cost, where can i get them etc? I also want those little visors on the lights like the bike shown below. I have also seen a LED light strip that people are putting on the trunk of their bikes that i would like to get. Can i run both of these items and my GPS without draining my battery? Sorry if that's a stupid question but i just want to make sure. Thanks in advance for your help guys. P.S. Also to who ever owns this bike, i hope your not offended by me using your picture.
  2. Carb sync question? Now before yesterday I haven't done it, and found it to be really easy with the carbtune First experience with that too, great product. Now for the question of the day. Not having a tach, but a 9/8's deaf ear,,, I set the idle with the idle set on the right side to what I thought was or felt like 1000R's +- of course. Preceded with the sync, which went well. During one of the rev-up blips I noticed that the tubes would rise to the top, and stop at about 3/4, then fall back to where they were. So just for the heck of it I held what I thought was between 2500 & 300 and looked at the carbtune. It was rock steady, and indicated that #3 & #4 were a bit higher than the left side ??? ( I was having a little trouble getting them together ) So I run the set up to about that level of RPM's. Then adjusted the right side, and resync'd the four to flat. Took about 1 min for that. Dropped it back down to 1000+- and did the Blip, several times, and they were flat and even. Any thought here on that. It ran well for the test ride, but it was seemingly running well before the sync, and after I got all 4 hitting again.
  3. That is the question! This all started with buying a set of handlebar grip heaters. I decided why not change the grips to a set of Kuryakan ISO's and then started considering new handlebars as well. Sooo, my question is how much of a difference is there? I want the controls closer to me and am wondering how much they actually come back, and is there any clearance issues?? Will I gain any extra handlebar area for mounting stuff?? Opinions, please!
  4. Quick question: How much fork oil for each leg on my 1988 Royale? I've seen 14.5 oz. per leg. Is that the standard? I'm installing Progressive springs, so I hear that changes the capacity from normal fork oil changes. Thanks. Rusty
  5. I installed my new starter this afternoon--she fired right up!!!---BUT!---It sounds like my starter is still trying to stay engaged--the last starter was ruined when the Starter Button became stuck while I was starting it and I didn't notice it was stuck until the damage was done----I freed the starter button and it seems to be working ok---My question is--Has anyone had this problem and do you think it would be best to replace the starter button assembly while I'm this deep into it?.......................Larry:confused07:
  6. I have satellite internet (all I can get where I live)...there is a limit on the amount of data that I can download in a 24 hour period. My question: when I view something posted that goes to sites like youtube, is this considered downloading? Also, I don't fully understand "streaming". Are the youtube videos "streaming"...are they "downloading"? I know I could call my IP, but I know I will get straight answers from you all...and I can get answers in English that I can understand. Thanks in advance.
  7. I have a honest question, I have read in posts, most recently the darkside poll by captain Joe, that some who went back to the motorcycle tire did so because they pushed the limits of riding. Now I assume they mean in cornering, and curves. The question is how do you push it past the floorboards dragging the ground. I can easily drag my floor boards in sharps curves any most any speed. I have had to replace my right foot peg because of draging getting on and off I 75 at hwy 82 the cloverleaf ramp in Tifton. not being smart, I'm just asking, how can you ride harder than that. Gregg
  8. Here's a question that I've been wondering about. If you lived in a state where you don't have to wear a helmet, but like to talk on the CB, but don't want to spent the money to by one of those "helmetless" headsets, what are your alternatives? Can you somehow use a mic and cord like the police use ot use? Would the CB transmit trough the speakers and still be able to talk using theis type of setup? Would it even hook up to the RSV system?? If so, where would one look for such a setup??? I would think someone from one of the states where they don't have helmet laws could answer this pretty quick. Well???I know, I know, more than 1 question!!
  9. http://charlotte.news14.com/content/top_stories/636768/patriot-guard-member-killed-in-motorcycle-accident Seems like one wasn't enough for the cagers. This was a Patriot Gaurd rider. And there is no question of who was at fault.
  10. I know there are no "dumb questions", only "dumb answers" so I figgure I'll get a few with this "non-dumb" question.... We have 2 ways of expressing time.... AM/PM or "Military" aka 24-hour clock. So my non-dumb question is .... why, when using the 24-hour clock, we say, for example, 13 hundred hours ... or .... 21 hundred hours ... or ... 05 hundred hours ???? If it's 5AM in the morning, I certainly haven't been sleeping for 5 hundred hours...!!! Oh geeeezzzzzzzzz.... I have cabin fever and PMS sooooooooooo BAD!!!!
  11. I have a quick question about valve stems. I am going to put 90 degree valve stems on my 03 RSV. There are two sizes available 8 MM and 10 MM. I have searched the forum and found threads on valve stems and could not find the answer to my question. I did read on the forum that the front and back wheels are different as far as the the valve stem hole. True or false? I'm going to put K&L valve stems on, either part number 32-5419 10MM or part number 32-5414 8 MM. Now my question is what size is the valve stem hole, 8 or 10 MM?
  12. well i have been considering opening a detail shop.. around here they get $100- $250 for this service.. now the question is. how many of you here would or do use this service?? personally i do all of my own work.. but with the economy as it is i personaly would think that this service would be an option as opposed to buying a new car.. what do you people think on this.. i personally , prefer to buy a vehichle at the bone yard and redo for myself... but then thats what i like to do. any thoughts on this would be appreciated.. here are a couple of xamples of what i do for myself.. the last 2 pictures are my next project for myself.
  13. I've never seen this question ever asked. But as I look and everyones US & Canadian States Covered. Only one question came to mind. Where they states you rode the motorcycle too, Or are they states you have visited? By Flying there?
  14. I've read about a couple of different places to splice in the trailer light pig-tail, but I still have one question. What do you use to do the splice. Those squeeze together quick splices, or bare wires with a heat shrink tubing cover?? I have a 5 wire on the trailer to match what's on the bike so I think a plug and play is out if anyone even makes one...
  15. I have what may well be a stupid question regarding the battery in our '01 Chevy Tahoe. While having our oil changed at the local quick change place they told my wife that the battery tested out as having a dead cell. We have had no signs of issues with the battery since she was told this three weeks ago. The battery turns the motor over quickly, even with the temperature in the teens lately and has shown no sign of fading. But it has me wondering... Could this be true, or are they simply trying to fool the public?
  16. I have a 97 Royal Star Tour Classic, My question is,.. will the risers from a RSTV work on my bike? It appears that they will pull the handle bars back a little. Here is what I have on my bike: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-Touring-HANDLEBAR-RISERS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1e5f0741caQQitemZ130443329994QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Here is what I am looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-XVZ1300-HANDLEBAR-RISERS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem19be0722d6QQitemZ110562321110QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Also how do I remove the top half of the risers? It appears that the bolts have chrome caps on them? I have not dug into them yet, just trying to get my ducks in a row before I do. The reason for the question is that I am going to install a fairing, and need a little bit more room in front of the risers. Thanks! Darrin
  17. Ok...stupid question...I have the V-four timing chain cover to replace the yamaha one. Question is, when I take the old cover off does fluid come out? Do I need to drain the oil first? I also have the water pump V-four cover and I know I have to drain the antifreeze but not sure about the TC cover. Thanks for any help
  18. Hi!, My name is Larry and I live in the Bootheel of Missouri. A month ago I traded my 1300c for a 06 rsmtd. The 06 had 3300 miles on it and I consider it as close to new as you could get. It does have the loud clutch chirp, which I will deal with later. This site has been a great help in learning about the new bike (to me). I have added the Harley lic. plate bracket and lights and I have a set of RK mufflers to add. My question is: How do you save the soft gasket material that is around the head pipe? or do you just buy new if you decide to put the stock pipes back on. I will be adding more to the profile soon. And thanks for all of your help. Larry
  19. With all the talk of building trailers it got my giddyup goin so a question for ya'll. I plan to build a trailer similar to the aluma, the construction of it is going to be pretty straigt forward. My question is about rubber torsion axels. When I calculate where the axle will go I know the 60/40 rule applys but do I center the wheel hub or the rubber flexi part on that line or split the difference? Retarded mind want to know, lol
  20. Probably a thread someplace but can't find it. I have my bike on the lift, I have the battery tender hooked up, I have StaBil and Seafoam in the tank and I took a short ride (it's like 20 degrees here) to get all the additives in the carbs, I have it cleaned and waxed and the cover is on. Now my question is do you leave the gas turned on or off. Mine will not set til April without going out for a ride. It may only be 10 miles total or so but it will go out every 3/4 weeks. Thanks in advance
  21. In case some members haven't seen the recent poll question set up, please check out the question regarding next years trailer to be raffled off at the International Rally. As the Trailer Raffle - winner to be drawn at the International Rally, is open to all supporting members & not just those at the rally, we (the committee) have 2 possible options available. Trailer shipped, or Winner makes own arrangements to retrieve it. Will trailer shipping to winner, affect my decision to buy Trailer Raffle tickets. ** Yes ** No We, on the committee, need to have as much feedback as possible over the few days, please. Thanks, all, for your assistance and consideration. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=54849
  22. I downloaded and printed the Jason Mod articles and pictures along with the Blocking off the AIS article and pictures. I am going to do both of these mods. My question is, once you do the AIS blocking and then go onto the Jason mod; what do you do with the vacuum hoses from cylinders 2 and 3 once you have spliced in the small 3/16" fuel tubing as shown in the pictures? Thanking you in advance. Chris
  23. My main desktop at home seems to be "toes up" at this point. It started a while back giving me a BSOD message that it could not load c:\winnt\system32\config\software when 1st powered on or restarted. Power off and power right back up and it would boot normally and work fine, until the next reboot. Then it got to the point it would "blue screen" randomly, and then the power off and power back on did not work anymore. The can't load "software" message happened every time. I found a fix on Microsoft's site, where all the registry pieces in the "config" folder are replaced from the "repair" folder. Now it won't boot normally or in Safe Mode. I thought well I'll try a "repair". There lies the problem and therefore my question. When I select ®epair I get the message something to the effect "no windows system found" and it wants to install a fresh copy of Win-XP. The question is what does the install routine need to find to recognize there is an operating system in need of repair?
  24. Hello all I obviously am new here as this is my 1st post. I am in the process of purchasing an 07 model. 1st Question: Can anyone tell me the proper pressure for the front and rear shocks? I read the front takes no more than 7 and that 3 is a good place to start but I havent found anything on the rear. The bike has been sitting for a couple of months so I will probable need adjusting. 2nd question: What years are the 1st generation vs the second generations that I see people talking about and what are the differences? 3rd question: Is there a 3rd generation? 4th question: Is there any major issues I should look for or check. the bike has 40,000+ miles. 5th question: Is there a limit as to how many questions I can ask per post? Thanks in advance as I am sure there will be more questions to follow. Tom PS: my presently my other bike is a beautiful 97 Honda Valkyrie Tourer. I recently sold a 06 HD Street Glide. I've also owned a 03 Honda ST1300, a 03 Honda VTX 1300, a Honda 750 ACE, and my 1st bike was a Yahama 400 way back when gas reached $1.00 a gallon. My wife rides a 04 HD Fatboy.
  25. I've been a member of this sight for a couple of years. I haven't met many of you, but I feel like I know you. The people here are always helpful no matter what you need help with. I recently bought a Harley, and thought I would check out the Harley forums. I won't name the forum, but it seems like no matter what the question over there you always get a lot of sarcastic answers, or are just plain mean to the OP. If someone asks a question about why choose a HD over another brand, you get one of those "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand" answers. I'm just saying we're luck to have a better class of people here. After reading Eck's "VR saved my life" post, it got me thinking about it. There are lots of things I'd like to learn about the new ride. I'd like to find a forum like this one dedicated to touring Harleys, but I don't know if one exists.
