  1. Dont tell Mini but I just bought her a WII video game so she can beat Sledgehammer at Golf. I am sure that I will have to set it up as soon as I get home friday. So if you dont see her in chat you will know she is golfing in the living room. Jeff
  2. To all my G2 comrads, After much thought I have decided that I am not going to be making the Muffler brackets for the H/D mufflers to the G2. I haven't been real happy with how the last few sets have turned out and I dont have the proper equipment to make them how I want to see them. This being said I will not be taking any orders for them...but there is good news here. I have talked with Hilliss here on our site, he will be taking over making them as the need arises so if you want to get a set, he would be the man to get ahold of. I have a set of his brackets that he sent to me to look at, and I'll tell you that you wont be disappointed with them. His quality is top notch and I like his workmanship. I'm sorry if this comes as a bit of a shock, but you'll still be able to get your H/D mufflers on your G2....it just wont be with brackets made by me. Thank you to all of the members that purchased sets from me....we'll see you on the road
  3. I have ordered new brake pads to install this weekend on my 07 RSV (30k miles). I noticed that on the front brakes, the inside pads appear almost new while the outside pads are very close to the wear indicator. I know that this seems to be normal on the rear brakes but............. 1. Is this normal on the front brakes? and 2. Can I reuse the 2 good pads (1 from either side) on 1 caliper and just install new pads on the other side? I have ordered a full set of pads for front and rear so having parts is not an issue, but if I can save a set for next time that would be good too.
  4. After taking a trip or two with my freshly gutted stock pipes I find that the sound is really annoying to both my wife and I. If anyone has a set of stock mufflers that they want to sell or trade for a set of gutted ones please contact me.
  5. I would like to give a big public "Thank You" to Squidley. I asked around for info on RK muffler brackets and he had a set for me. Top quality in service and craftsmanship. Thanks Squidley!!!!!
  6. I have been getting requests for the 2nd Gen Bra set "Scooter Hooters" , for both upper and lowers fairings . I have been reluctant in taking orders as my time is limited . I still have a couple of pair of chaps and other items to make for other VR members , but I have decided to start making these "Scooter Hooters" available to the first 25 VR.Org members only at this time . So here is the deal . I can allot myself time to produce at least 2 complete sets of 2nd Gen Bra "Scooter Hooters" a week until I get caught up on my day job duties . I will make 25 sets available at a reduced price of $120.00 (US funds) per set (plus postage), on which I will take $20.00 of this money and donate in behalf with your name to a VR Fund . If all 25 sets are sold , that will generate $500.00 towards the VR Fund . If you wish to order , please make a post noting that you wish to order/reserve a set . I will not be asking for any money until your set of "Scooter Hooters" are ready to ship out . You will be notified by PM when they are ready to ship and also to obtain shipping address . I will set up a Pay Pal account and direct you to that account to send funds plus shipping . That person notified that their "Scooter Hooters" are ready , has (1) one week to to respond . If you do not respond , then that set will go to the next person in line on the list and your request will either be dropped to the bottom of the list or voided . In the case of a return/refund , only the sum of $100.00 will be refunded . The $20.00 for donation and shipping charges will be forfeited . VR.Org will not be held responsible in any way if there is a dispute or incident . That issue will be dealt with myself only . Once all 25 sets are sold , I will be sending the funds to Black Owl for deposit into the VR Fund account . These "Scooter Hooters" will be made of clothe backed Vynl , Black in color only . If you desire another color , Vynl spray paint can be obtained at your local automotive supply store . It takes myself less than a minute to place on or take off the uppers . About 2 minutes to place on the lowers and you will have to get down on your knees or back to fasten to scoot's fairing bottom . They will not interfere with lower vents , nor foot-pegs that I am aware of. They will not interfere with grill guards either . You will need to remove occasionally to clean/remove any grit that may be air born and get caught in between the bras and fairings . Here are some photo's of my set for viewing . Perhaps we can get SleeperHawk's Mechanic to post photo's of their's "scooter Hooters" for viewing as well. If you have any questions , please ask . 7. I've been following and reading some posts on installing RK slip-ons. Have also read how to mod them for more sound. Everyone talks about drilling out, knocking out plugs, etc. Today I found a local customizing shop for Harley's and asked if he had any RKs. He took me over to a shelf he had in back and got several down to show me. One set were stright tip and I could not see through them another set which he had cut out (gutted) were in bad shape. Then he showed me what he said was a newer set (he said from an 06) that were slash cut style and were in good shape. When I held them up I could see all the way through them no plugs or anything blocking view or anything. I could see a pipe in the center with lots of holes in it running the length of the inner pipe. He said they were stock and nothing had been done to them. My question is are there diff cores in the stock RK mufflers. Some blocked by plugs and baffles and some that you can see stright through? Sure need help.
  8. I have a stock '06 RSTD with K&N air filters and I just installed a set of BUB Sleepers. What a difference in throttle response and power! With this increased air flow, how do I know if I need to re-jet? The bike runs great, but I don't want to risk any damage to my bike. I'm sure some of you guys have had the same set up, what did you do? Thanks, David
  9. the weather was fantastic the colours superb and the bike rode like a dream ( I am definitly back).Unfortunatly i did witness one sad incedent a sport bike passed me at more than twice my speed on the wrong side of the road.a young couple. 45 minutes later mid way through a set of s bends I came across the bike scatered all over the road. I dont know how badly the couple was hurt but there were already so many around I didn't want to add to gathering crowd and be in the way of emergancy personal already there.
  10. Looking for a set of RSTD's. Mine were damaged in the accident. I had a second set but I had drilled them out completely and they are too loud for me. Anybody have a set they want to sell? Or trade for a loud set of RSTD's.
  11. Hey guys sorry I havent been here in a while summer has been very busy. Anyway I have started working for a company that does CNC routing and laser etching along with vinyl cutter for vehicle graphics and signs. We stated doing some wind deflectors (since I needed a new pair as one was cracked) and the owner has a Gold Wing. They are 3/16ths acrylic which is nice since they are a little heavier than the stock ones. I included some pics of the orange set I put on mine and also a few different colors red, blue, yellow and also we have black, dark red, light blue along with clear (which you can have back painted to match your bike exactly). They are 6 by 7 and 3/4 which is the size of my originals and bent exactly like the original set. The holes are not drilled so you can drill them to fit your own hardware. They will be $25 a pair plus shipping. I am putting this in the classifieds as well but I wanted you guys to check them out cause I thought everyone would get a chance to see them here. We can also customize them like I did with mine for an addidtional fee. But check them out and let me know what you think. Paul

    My last ride?

Today a couple buddies invited me to do a nice ride up in the north central part of PA - which I did. We were two up - other 3 one up - a sportster, BMW something or other and ST1100. I guess I am wussy, but hitting a mountain twisty at 125 mph (the ST1100) is not my style of riding at all. I did not even want to keep up. I hated to make them wait somewhere for me, but that kind of riding is not for me thank you very much. Plus I was not getting set up right for the curves anyhow today, must be a Zen thing. So. I took my time. Now - I think this will be my last ride with these guys, even though I like them a lot. What do you think?
  14. Running out of ideas. The cruise in this '86 used to work, not great, but it worked. Now it will turn on, all the lights come on-then go off with power light still on. Hit the set button and nothing happens. It's like the wire was cut. I took the switch apart and it looked good; cleaned it, and put it back together. I have done the same to the clutch switch and the brake switch. I took the instrument panel apart(to get the bug out of the speedo:rotf:) and took apart all the plugs and cleaned them and put dielctric in them. Then I did it to almost every plug on the scoot. The scoot was kept mostly indoors during it's former life and everything has been free of corrosion. I have tried to chase wires but the diagram I have(the free downloadable one here) is mostly unreadable so I am not having any luck with the wirs. I know little about electronics and get easily bogged down. I don't know how the system works but I think when I hit the set switch, a signal goes to a black box or 2(haven't a clue) which works the diaphram conected to the throttle box. I just don't know what next. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. I have an '07 RSV. I didn't get an owners manual with it and I can't get the clock to set. Can someone help me out here?
  16. I have seen where some were asking about muffler for venture that sound good but not loud. The yamaha shop gave me at set off of a 2007 tour deluxe. has the same the part number as the ones on my 2000, except they have moveable tips. I used a dremel tools with a cut off disk, went up in the muffler 1 inch and cut the tube, pushed it to the side and put them back on, they sound great, but are not loud unless under full throttle. also you can't tell the mod has been done looking at the muffler, nor can you run the stick up into muffler to check the baffle. This can be done to any 99 up venture, it was easy to due only takes about an hour. You do need the extension set for the dremel tool. Gregg:big-grin-emoticon:
  17. GeorgeS, I took your advice and have been spraying everything I can find but... I can turn on the cruise; all the lights come on, but pushing "set" no longer works. It used to work, although it would fall out now and then and the "resume" light would come on. I would reset it and it would work again. It won't set at all now. I have checked the clutch lever, sprayed the "set-resume"etc slider, cancel button, but I have not yet taken all that stuff apart. I have also adjusted and checked the brakes and throttle cables. Running out of ideas:confused24: The radio... works great except in the helmets. The left earpiece works, right one just barely. Does it in all the helmets but it works thru the speakers great. I suspect it is in the amp or one of the wires to/from the amp(the one in the left fairing) but I guess it could be in the radio itself. Got any ideas:think: And last but not least, the CB squelch don't work. It xmits and rec. just fine, both thru the speakers and headset(just the left one-see radio above) but it is always wide open squelch. Has anyone ever replaced the squelch pot. in one of these CBs Take any help I can get... TIA
  18. Hey Don have a question for you. At the bottom of a post it used to say who has read the post and now it don't. What happen to this option or is there something I have to set up again. Joe
  19. (Or what I did instead of going to Houston for Red Lobster) So, the bike needed new tires. Bought a set of Continental ContiTours from Dennis Kirk. Then I picked up a set of rims on e-Bay. Mount and balance then just swap out. Sounds great in the master plan. Pull the seals to get sized at the local bearing house. Man says not a problem. Also order new bearings. Get a new drive side bearing from the dealer. RIGHT!!! The local dealer wants $68.00!!! Start calling and get a lead on one for $39.00. Get it coming for this past Thursday. Guy from the seal house calls and can't find the seals. Too special but he can order. Tell him ok and go for the Stealership. They have 3 of 4 seals. Go home and take front wheel off and kneel the bike forward. Worked great and I did remember a ratchet strap for the center stand. Start on the rear. Muffler off and set aside, loosen axle shaft a bit to make sure all is ok. Remove caliper bolts in rear and the threads come out with the bolts. Rats-helicoil time. Mutter and loosen the 4 shaft tube nuts and put 1 back as a holder. Pull the axle and drop the wheel perfectly. Wipe down and pull snap ring and remove drive hub. Wait, snap ring groove? The e-Bay wheel didn't have that!! Call tire man in the AM. Already mounted and balanced. Take the disc off my original wheel and take over. Sure enough the drive hub was removed without taking off the snap ring. Would have liked to see the force required to break the entire center of the wheel off! Tire guy charges me for 3 changes and off I go. Want to go to Houston for meet and eat so I drive to Austin and get the last seal. Now I know why I only pulled 3 seals. The broken off end had the fourth. Stop at Harbor Freight and pick up a blind hole bearing puller set. (On sale for $29.00) Go to bolt place and get 10mm x 1.25 permacoil kit. Auto parts - $75.00 and bolt place $32.00. Now I am ready to go. Only it is 6:30 PM on Friday. Decide to quit and repair on Saturday. Reassembly and bearing replacement is smooth. The puller kit made it a snap. All cleaned, greased, neverseized, and blue locktited. Perma-coils put on right on bike without removing caliper. Pictures galore taken and all buttoned up. Guessed at the torque on the rear axle. Calls for 110 ft.-lbs. Used a wrench and white knuckles method. It turns well and no binding. Brake caliper on and holding great. Now I get to clean up in the AM. I have seal sizes and bearing numbers for later. I will post the pics and do a write-up for the archives. Oh, the e-Bay guy is giving me back my rim money. It was $9.99. I got both rims, the radio, amp, and whole wiring harness for $60.00 delivered so the money isn't a problem. I explained what it took to break the hub and suggested that his shop monkeys learn to wipe off stuff and not use a shop press and torch for disassembly. Long-winded story JB
  20. Hey folks. I'm looking for a good set of armrests for my '05 RSV. My wife and I spotted some of those chrome eagle armrests made by Diamond R Accessories in some of the photos posted on this site and she loves them. The only problem is I contacted the componay and he said he no longer made that armrest. So I'm hoping someone out there has a set of them they've taken off and would like to sell. If you do, PLEASE email me at roy.powell1@us.army.mil and let's work something out. Thanks
  21. Hi guys and gals.. I'm rather new to the Venture with only 6000 miles in 2 months on my 06 midnight (bought used this july) I have a hitch coming soon and though I wasn't planning on towing anything this year, my friend has started building bike trailers, very nice looking.. 75 lbs, single wheel, fiberglass with a square top lid latch. Looks sharp I must say.. As far as trailers go, is there a preference to towing single wheel over 2 wheels? The only disadvantage to a single wheel trailer, to me, would be when you unhitched it.. how do you support it?! But when pulling these trailers, is there a diff in the handling? I typically ride solo but am also a photographer and would LOVE to haul my lighting system on road trips with the bike instead of taking the cage for this purpose.. I don't camp, hotels are fine for this guy.. sorry ; ) All I would need to do is now find a suitable trailer to hold the lighting system.. I did see a set up that was vertical in nature over the top of the hitch, say big enough for your golf bag etc.. that one looked interesting but exceedingly expensive.. I guess one of those set ups are only limited by the tongue weight? Interesting set up..
  22. I have a problem with my right hand, and sometimes my left, going dead after riding a while. I know...Carpol Tunnel... On the '83 I have a throttle lock that I can set in order to relax the hand and get the blood flow back into it. Some rides are worse than others, but on Saturday's VWIV ride from Ft Hunter-Ligette, 25 miles over to Hwy1 on the coast, we were in some fairly twisty road conditions, and I couldn't set the lock to relieve the numbness in my right hand. So for just about all of that portion of the ride... 1.5 hrs.. I had to twist the throttle with a numb hand. After a while it hurt like 'H'. Long story short, I think I screwed up my hand big time. It's been two weeks and the tips of the fingers on the right hands are numb 24/7 and they ain't getting any better. Went to the Doc's and she was non-comittal as to the cause. I have an appointment with... I guess.. a neurologist for tests on the 12th. I wondering if anybody else has had this happen to them, and did you finally get the feeling back?? Talk about a PITA trying to zip up the fly when I can't feel the tang!!!
  23. I have a short in the plug for my driver’s head set cable harness. It is the 5-pin connector and if memory serves correctly (only have one brain cell left!) there are two connectors on the "bike" side. Does anyone have a source for replacement cables?
  24. Brad25ca, is in need of a Bracket from an old Carb Set for his 86. Anybody out there who has replaced his complete Carb Set, might still have the parts laying around that he needs. ( part he needs cannot be ordered seperatly ) Its the Bracket assembly that holds the Throttle " Pull " cable In place, located between the two left side carbs. If anybody can help, drop him a message !!!
  25. OK, I am tired of the decelleration whining to such a degree that I am going to replace it. That is of course, if I can find one. If anyone has one they are willing to part with for $$$$, just let me know. Also, if anyone knows someone with a good final drive that is willing to give it up, let me know. I have several items that I am willing to trade and if needed add in some bucks. I have a really good set of stock mufflers, chrome is perfect and no dents and an almost perfect set of jardines. The jardines have a little chrome flaking but not that bad. I have a complete set of good carbs for lst edition. Numerous audio parts; radio, amps, tuner, etc. Plus alot of other items including a final drive for an 83-85 which is different than the one I need for my 88. The dealer wants almost 800.00 for a new final drive assembly so that is most likely my last option. Masterguns
