  1. I have a 2004 second gen. and had replaced temp sensor last summer, however, on today's ride, the fan is not kicking on when it should. Can a toggle switch be installed to kick the fan in manually? Any suggestions as to why this is happening and what to do to remedy?
  2. My sidestand switch isn't working properly, and was looking for another one. As the part is discontinued, I was wondering........where do I get one? This is for my 84
  3. I replaced a faulty ignition switch today, and while there is plenty of info on the forum on how to do it, I wanted to share how I dealt with the tamper proof bolts that hold the switch to the frame. There is no "head" to get a tool onto these bolts, so many guys use a dremel or die grinder to cut slots into the head so they can remove the bolts with a screw driver. Another option is to just drill out the bolt and then remove the remaining bolt after the switch has been removed. I decided that since I didn't need to salvage the switch or the housing (it was already broke) it wouldn't hurt to break it more. I used a small sharp chisel to break part of the switch base so I could get at the recessed bolt heads. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/gat803/ignitionchange014.jpg Then I used the chisel to tap into the side of the bolthead, making a gouge for the tool to bite into and loosening the bolt. It was just a matter of a couple of revolutions and I could turn it the rest of the way by hand. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/gat803/ignitionchange015.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/gat803/ignitionchange018.jpg I replaced the factory bolts with a couple of metric allen head bolts from my collection and I'm good to go. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/gat803/ignitionchange021.jpg Total time, start to finish to replace the switch.....1 hour, give or take.
  4. In my thread "My New Thumb Switch Mount" Bongobobny said the my new thumb switch might look like it could fit a 2nd Gen. I know a couple neighbors with a 2nd Gen so for all you 2nd Gen owners if you are interested in a modified version of the thumb switch please indicate so on this thread. It is important that if you are interested that you post so I can get a rough count. If the numbers are good enough my machiniest friend and I will look into it when I return from vacation. Attached are some pictures of the switch on my 1st Gen. I've hooked SW#1 to a set of 1 inch by 2 inch 55 watt Plattium Burners from Walmart. I call them "Can You See Me Now" Lights. My 2nd switch is being reserved for KIC's instructions to activate your garage opener from a 2nd switch.
  5. I"m doing the clutch slave cyl and figured I'd tackle the gear indicator issue while I was in there. Mine reads 4th gear for everything except 5th That part was not really planned cause I didn't even realize the switch was in there!! Anyway, I did the testing as per the manual and I guess the switch is bad. Any body got a GOOD shift indicator switch they want to part with? How much is a new one here in Canada? I really dont' want to try building up the contacts with solder like I read in one thread...I"d rather just change the switch. If I go ahead and do the slave cyl. and put the cover back on....do I have to order another gasket and crush washer to do the switch later or can I just re-use the "new" ones I would have just put in?
  6. I wanted to add a couple of new switches, but I wanted the switches to be accessible by my thumb without moving my hand. Two push button switches. 1) for my Walmart special 55 watt really small lights that I hooked to the mirror brackets. This to get the attention of whom ever I feel the need to see me. Its a push switch. Push it, it is on. Let it go, it is off. 2) I plan on adding on a couple of rear white LEDS, with same kind of switch.
  7. Can anyone tell me where the emergency flasher switch is suposed to be mounted on an '83 VR?
  8. i'll try and make this short and detailed. fixin my buddys venture, a 99. died on the road to ny last fall, he put in new battery and didnt get to far before it died again. brought it to me, charged up the battery and tested the charging system. stator was 96v, ohm'd out correctly r/r tested fine all plugs appear to be fine. ignition switch was bad, did the temp fix i found here with the toggle. voltage output while running tested around 13 at idle and 14 at mid range rpm's sent him on his way, figuring the switch wasn't allowing system to charge. he rode it to work 2 days fine. third day he went to a store, came out and dead battery. jump started it and only made it 1/2 mile before it died again. last night charged the battery with a charger. this morning i checked the voltage while running again, at idle right now its 13.6 volts. i think i did a draw test right, and i'm getting 00.7 on the 200m scale with key off, i installed the new ignition switch last night. i will redo the charging system test procedure with the new switch installed. what am i missing? if everything appears to be correct? or are my charging values a wee bit low enough to eventually run the battery down while driving?
  9. Has any one use a spray cleaner to clean Ing. switch mine is sticking some times when I put key in and try to turn on bike
  10. Swapped Neutral Switch, for cracked gear position switch...works perfect, no leak from here anymore....now to stop the other leaks.
  11. Took the bike to get it inspected. I had worked the horn button a few times and got it working. But at the dealer I couldn't get it to work. I leave the dealer and I can get it to work when the bike is running. I decide to take the bike home and clean the contact points in hopes to get the horn working better. I take the switch control apart and find a lot of dirt in it I clean it with Q tips sprayed with a like windex. I try working the control trying to make the contacts touch but still can't get the switch to . I finish the cleaning and put it all back together all the other controls work fine but the Horn button. I know theres no fuse in the system are there any suggestions as to what i can do next. I can"t figure out why its not working . I know that its a constant feed to the switch and the button simply closes the circuit, If the contacts are touching why wouldn't it be working?
  12. Speedometer internal pictures a member asked for. Posting here so others can see them . Last picture is of the reed switch that controls the cruise & the turn cancel by distance feature. Gary
  13. What would be the best type of switch to wire in to manually shut off the HID light prior to start up? Id like to find something decorative to maybe mount on the inner fairing. What amps/volts/etc would I need? Dont get too technical here. Just plain ol truckdrivers english please.
  14. Hi everyone, still got the light problem but have narrowed it to the switch.Anyone know of a good place to get one or anyone have one lying around that they would be willing to sell.I checked Bike bandit and you have to buy the whole left hand switch assembly for over 200.00!!!! OOuch!!!
  15. I'm realizing the the VR I have is an '84, not an '83 (licensed as an '83) Anyhoo, the turnsignal switch needs to be replaced. It is the unit with the choke lever circled around the handlebar end. PN 41R-83973-00-00. Anybody have any leads to where I can purchase one? I've tried the NOS Yamaha dealers on Google, but no dice. I read the thread about taking it apart and cleaning it, but the way it feels when I try to use it, I'm thinking it has something physically broken inside. I can also see the tiny balls and springs disappearing onto my garage floor, so I prone to replace it, if possible. I found some used ones on E-bay, but who knows what you get that way. Don't need TWO broken switches! Any help greatly appreciated.
  16. the side stand switch doesnt actuall "kill" the bike anymore. should i replace it? i cannot seem to find a new one. could it be something else????
  17. My '83 Royale with cruise fried the plunger on the brake light switch. I mistakenly ordered the two wire switch, when,of course, I NEED the four wire switch. Given that the four wire switch is several times the cost of the two wire switch, is there some way to use the two wires for the brake light, and do something else with the other two wires to fool the cruise into working? Possibly tying them together to complete the circuit, or applying 12V to one or the other? Any help greatly appreciated!
  18. I need to find a new spring for my 89 horn switch, I suspect it is sold as as a switch assembly only. Here is the link to the parts diagram as shown on Boats.net http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1989/VENTURE%20ROYALE%20-%20XVZ1300DWC/HANDLE%20SWITCH%20LEVER/parts.html I have looked elsewhere, none of the diagrams illustrate a horn switch part number, and if they do, I can not figure it out. Anyone .....
  19. Hi everyone New guy here. I have an '83 Venture Royale with factory cruise control. I need a new front brake light switch. The one I received from Yamaha has only two wires, while the existing one on the bike has 4 wires, and runs through a small block (resistor or capacitor?) before plugging into a four gang block in the headlight shell. The Yamaha dealer I spoke with couldn't find any reference to the different switch, or a part number for it. Anyone had this same problem??
  20. Since I don't use my audio equipment, this afternoon I got busy yanking some of my 93 apart (multiple things are going on at once). I've got the amp equipment removed. No problems there. This is what I'm thinking of doing. The mute switch on the handlebar audio controls (what IS that box called, anyway?) is a 2-position simple on/off switch. When I convert my headlight to HID, that switch would function nicely as my on/off control for the headlight, eh? So I traced the wire routing and got that whole box and connector removed from the bike and now it sits on the bench. Buuuttt.... there doesn't seem to be an easy way of disassembling the thing further than where I've got it now (see photo), and I have no idea which wires go to which switching devices in there. I looked for other threads concerning this, but I can't seem to find anything quite this detailed. I don't suppose any of our long term members have been down this road before and perhaps somebody has a pinout of this whole switch control? Dingy? Dingy? DDDIIINNNGGGYYY???????
  21. All my lights work except the headlight? I bought the bike in pieces, I was told by the previous owner that they tore it apart trying to get the headlight working. I reassembled it and it runs great. The led goes through its checklist and everything checks out fine. I have power to and from the fusebox, but no headlight. I went to the harness behind the headlight and fed the system from there on a toggle switch with a fuse and it works fine, high and low beam. I can probably ride it forever like this but I would still like to find the problem and return it to the stock setup. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray.
  22. 06 RSV. when put the stand down in with it in neutral it dies so took the switch off took the back panel off of the switch treid to start it it started moved the handle bars tried to start it again it wont start this has happen to me bofore i just rock the bike while on the side stand and some times its start some times it dont but i hear a loud clicking noise so i took the seat and all the side covers off. the noise is comeing from what i can tell is the starter selanoid i am guessing that that is what it is its under the seat and the positive and negative cables run to it. so can it be that the thing is going bad it has done this off and on for the past two years or is it something else that i should be looking for?
  23. I have a 2006 RSTD. My Liner had a switch that was meant for running lights. The RSTD doesn't have this switch. So I'll need a switch and light ideas. I'd like to be able to turn them off and on separate from the headlight and the switch has to look like it wasn't an afterthought. Ideas?
  24. Having increasingly more difficulty turning the key and starting the bike. 86 Royale. I do know one night I saw the switch arcing to my keys on the key chain. Any way does any one have an ignition/(main switch)#1NL-82501-01-00 with key They could part with.
  25. I took my (new to me) 1986 Royale out for the first time this weekend for a shake-down run. But when I got back, I noticed that my headlight was not working. In after-thought, I don't remember if it was working when I took off, I checked turn signals and brake lights, etc, but not headlight. No warning indicators on the dash lit up. I know before this "Sea-foam drive it like I stole event", it was working when I was checking the bike over. Anyways, I've checked the bulb - ohm'd good. filiments intact but only 1.2 volts present. Opened, cleaned left side handle bar switch, also minimum (1.2) voltage present on both low and high. Now, I'm thinking that it might be in the starter switch, since I'm not getting any indication of problems on the cmu and I never started it until yesterday. Am I on the right track?
