  1. This morning when I left on the bike to go to work.I noticed that my low beam didn’t work. So I used my high beams. This afternoon when I came from work. I checked the light bulb .but I can’t see anything wrong with it….I cleaned the connector with contact spray .without any luck. Can it be the light bulb or something else?
  2. OK guys yesterday at some point I lost both rear brake lights on my 04 silverado. I drove the last 300 miles with my daughter tailing me tight with her Subaru just to make it here.I believe I have a wiring problem. The brake fuse is fine, tail light bulbs are fine, and the third brake light that sets high above the rear glass works OK. This tells me the brake light switch is OK.The ground to both rear tail lights is probably OK as the rear turn signals, park lights etc are OK. I'm thinking maybe the master feed line comes into some connection plugs under the frame behind rear bumper. I'll check it out today when it warms up here. I got my volt meter with me just no wiring diagram. Those rear electrical plugs may be corroded.Nothing like plenty to do on vacation.
  3. I am starting my projects today....lowering the rear, lowering the front, installing a HID Exnon headlight, removing the tape player for a storage box ( maybe the gauge set). raising the handlebars, having the seat reworked by Rick Bulter, installing a fake blinking alarm light when the bike is turned off, installing the front air shock 2 to 1 air value, filling tires with Ride-On......... Oil and tires are good.... is there something else I should do while on jacks. 2005, 8000miles . Already has passing light, XM radio, extra brake light, larger horns. Cb
  4. I can't seem to find how to convert a LED light bar to become a RUN and BRAKE light. I thought thee was a simple wire connection that you connected to the running lights and brake lights. Anyone know what I'm talking about. BTW, this is for my SUV.
  5. Just put a trunk light on my 2006 Venture today and works great. I found as a suggestion on earlier forum to get from autozone a WE6-197 led strip brake light. I mounted right to bottom of trunk. It was suggested to use brackets. I had some super stick 3M foam double backed tape used for heavy mounting. It seems to hold excellent since light bar is light weight. If not I will use brackets later. Did the suggestion with two diodes, one with 330 ohm resistor in line for running light and direct from lower brake light. This conversion worked well and in my opinion looks good. At $25.00 for light, diodes and resistor and tube of solder and some shrink tubing, you can't go wrong if you are on a budget and want more visibility. I am going to try and find some chrome caps for the ends where the original plastic brackets were located to dress it up some. For the money I saved, I am now going to invest in a lowering kit as next project.
  6. WOW.... Talk about a modulator to get cagers attention. http://www.strobesnmore.com/strobes-n-more-e4-super-led.html
  7. Shamelessly stolen from 1 of the billion places that have this posted. How many VR members does it take to change a light bulb? 1 to change the light bulb then post about it 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could've been changed differently 1 to move it to the Lighting folder 2 to argue and then move it to the Electrical folder 7 to point out grammar/spelling errors in post about changing light bulbs 5 to flame the spell checkers 3 to correct spelling/grammar flames 6 to argue whether it's a light bulb or lightbulb 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is Lamp 15 know it all who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb is perfectly correct 19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take the discussion to the lightbulb forum 11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum 36 to discuss the dangers of changing light bulbs without a professional opinion 5 to post a disclaimer that they are not light bulb experts, nor do they play one on TV and that anyone planning on changing their own light bulb should consult a professional 7 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs 4 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then to post the correct URLs 3 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group 13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add, "Me too." 5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy 4 to say, "Didn't we go through this already a short time ago?" 13 to say, "Do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs." 1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again 1 attention whore to try to change the topic of the thread to them 1 person to say how lame we all are for talking about light bulbs 7 people to post motivational posters about any given topic (including rainbow panda or motivational poster about said attention whore) 6 people to ask for pictures of the light bulb 8 people to point out if someone was dumb enough to buy that brand of light bulb they deserve to have an issue 4 people to say OP paid too much for the light bulb 8 people to post just a smiley or lol 2 people to quote every post/picture and make you read through everything again 1 person to post an image too wide forcing everyone to have a horizontol scroll __________________
  8. Hi Guys, I'm the new owner of an 85 venture. There is a weird thing going on with the neutral light. When you first start the bike it works as advertised. After you ride for a while and the bike gets hot the light will no longer work. Not only that but the bike no longer knows when it's in neutral. What I mean is even if the bike is in neutral and you put side stand down the bike will shut down as if it was in gear. If you let the bike cool down for a couple of hours and start it up the light works fine again and side stand will not shut off the bike if put down when in neutral. Any ideas??
  9. Are these still available out there somewhere????
  10. I have an '08 with about 6800 miles on it. My neutral light stays illuminated all the time...when in "neutral" it is at it's brightest, as I shift up it gets less bright but still keeps some illumination. As I shift down it gets brighter and hits it's max again when I actually put it in neutral. Has anyone else had this problem or can tell me what the problem is?? Thanks...
  11. I am ordering items for my winter projects and need some help. I have read the threads involving passing lamps and understand how to install, but here is where my dumbness comes in. I have an 06 beautiful black tour deluxe with a straight light bar which the turn signals connect horizontal at the ends. I want to add passing lamps but am confused. Every site I look at to order the lights and mounts show a curved light bar. Do I have to purchase this light bar? or do they make lights for the straight one? If so, do the passing lights come with the turn signals that hang underneath or am I suppose to do something with the stock ones. I just want to buy something and can't figure this out. It looks to me like the turn signals that are on the ends now would come out and the passing lights would go in there place, but I don't know. Really need help in buying. I just bought kromewerks slip on and want to buy all the lights, including Led for the rear, and possibly engine lights and want to have everything so I can do all the electric at one time with taking the saddlebags and gas tank off. I appreciate any help. Thanks Walt:bang head:
  12. Another nice trip in Minnesota is going to Duluth and the North Shore. This year from St. Paul we went up I-35 a bit then we cut off on some two laners and made our way to hwy 23. Another little two lane road. We took that the rest of the way to Duluth. I was nice getting off the super slab, especially since they had that down to one lane each way for construction. Once in Duluth you should go out on the point. You have to cross the Historic lift bridge to get out there. The bridge has a metal grate deck and makes for a fun crossing. Once out on the point take the nice drive until you get to the park. This is a great place to picnic. Look for the trail to the sand dunes. Cross the dune and get out onto the north beach of the point. This is a favorite swimming beach for the locals. Kick off your boots and get your feet wet and frozen. Lake Superior water never warms up. Once your back on the road head north on 61 a very short ways. Actually until you see the turn for the scenic route. This is actually old highway 61, and this way keeps you right next to the lake and lets you have wonderful views. There are many resorts, cabins and B&B's along the way. Stop in at The Castle Inn for a good bite to eat. Keep going north and you'll pull into Two Harbors. In addition to all the stuff this town offers on the main street pull off to the right and go down o the light house. There you'll see a little area history with a historic tug boat and light house. They offer tours of the light house and if you plan in advance you can spend the night at the B&B in the light house. The next great place on this rip in Gooseberry Falls State Park. This is a fun place to wade or swim in the rapids and pools of the falls. It's also a very well visited place. Further up the road is Split Rock Light House. This is a good tour to take. There is a lot of history in that light. Ask how the got the crane, that they used to haul everything up the 100+ foot cliff, up the cliff with no crane. North of there is Beaver Bay, Silver Bay and may other little towns. We need to spend more time up there. It's been a long time since we've been past Split Rock Light house. We can usually do the trip from St. Paul to Split Rock and back in a day. To go further and see more you really need to take several days.
  13. It appears my solenoid maybe dead. I had a problem with the solenoid just clicking sometimes and sometimes the bike would not start at all sometimes I would press the start button several times and get nothing and sometimes I would get it to turn over. Now nothing no clicking no starting. Jumped the solenoid bike started right up. Disconected the Blue/white wire at the small terminal and put a test light and volmeter in between and connected to the positive terminal when I hit the start switch the test light lit up and when I used the voltmeter I got 12+ volts. So I'm guessing its dead a solenoid. I have searched the site for a small car/small engine replacement instead of the Yamaha one and havent been able to find a good suggestion of one to use anyone have one?
  14. Had bike serviced and now a light flashed on for a blip and disappeared and I can't find which it is. Lost my manual and not sure it tells you location of lights anyway. Sitting on bike its the furthest left and bottom. It's red but it doesn't come on when you turn the key on. I was really in the gas when it came on so maybe it's to let you know your about to go airborne? Any help is appreciated. 07 RSV by the way.
  15. For that very reason a guy got smart with me at a light in Bay City Mi. My wife on the back of my bike "04 Venture" and our friend on his Harley got in the wrong lane at a stop light. We needed to get over in another lane if we could. A small pick-up was setting next to us with his window down. My friend was next to the truck. I asked him if we could get over in front of him when the light changed. He just starred at me. Then he said," he can" but you can't. I just looked at him thinking he was kidding and would smile:) but oh no, not him. He started talking with my friend and said because you ride a Harley you can go ahead, but not him, meaning me. I was instantly angry and wanted to say something because this guy was serious and just kept giving me the eye. I looked ahead and told my friend we can go straight through the light and then make a turn and we did. Go figure:doh:. I was still angry at times to day but was reminded of a Proverb "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes" and "Leave the presence of a fool, Or you will not discern words of knowledge". I felt better after that reminder. All is good.
  16. Yesterday my wife and I were returning from a ride. We were approaching the highway where we turn left about 2 miles from home. I saw a light from a bike in my rear view mirror approaching. There is a traffic light where we turn left on a four lane to go home. The light was red so I starting slowing and moved into the left turn lane. The other bike, a harley softail deuce, came up beside me and I waved at him. I thought he was going to stay in the right lane to go straight or turn right. He came by and swerved into the left turn lane right in front of me. I had to slam on brakes to stop without hitting him. I can't repeat what I was calling him to myself. When the light turned green we turned left and he went over into the right lane. I thought OK buddy, I am going to see what you have but then remembered I was riding 2 up and he was riding single so the venture might not keep up. As he turned I could hear the roar of the pipes and knew he was twisting the throttle wide open. I twisted my throttle wide open and he was leaving me. When I hit the rev limit and my engine started sputtering I hit second gear and the venture lurched forward and I started gaining on him. When I was on his rear fender I hit third and swerved into the left lane and went by him like he was standing still. He was winding it out but I was steadily leaving him. I hit fourth and at 100 mph saw his light in my rear view mirror. It was time for me to turn right and go home so I backed off to let him come by so I could get back in the right lane. When he came by he gave me the finger. I guess it hurt his feelings because a metric bike riding 2 up blew his big bad harely away.
  17. I'm totally frustrated with the highlight bar on this bike.. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can never get it fully tight on, and half the time it is as if you missed the treads altogether, but it will hold the bar up for a while but loosen right off.. if the bolts don't go in at JUST the right angle, you can turn and turn all you want, it won't tighten up more.. And once you do get it right, there's really no simple method to get a tool in there to tighten it up enough not to cause it to flop in the wind or come loose again.. So my first winter project is to rip the dang thing off and go for an alternate route. I want to have 'something' up front for better illumination and better 'notice me' detection from cagers.. I don't have the original signal light bar since I'm not the original owner of the bike but I still have my V-Star signal light bar and though I haven't tried it yet, I think it could be used since both bikes do have similar parts.. can anyone confirm this? If such is the case, then I would need to find an alternative highway light setup, big enough blob of light to be noticed, light enough not to be bouncing thus causing vibrations and so on.. What are my alternatives? What do you have that's not OEM etc? Thanks M8
  18. I have a 06 midnight RSV that will only go in to first and not any other gear. I went to two dealers who have never seen this before. I was on the road and stopped for gas and that is when it happened. I pulled back on to the road and bike would not go un to second gear. I went to the local dealer where I was and he checked the linkage and did a basic look over and he determined the issue was internal. I also lost my head light and tail light but I do have blinkers and flashers. Anyone have this issue. Thanks Jeffers:mytruck1:
  19. I looking for some advise , My high beam is not working on my 06 rstd , low beam is fine . Two questions Im guessing no, but is this covered under 5yr warrentee ? and is it best to replace with stock light from Yamaha or is there a better light and where can I get it . thanks in advance for any advise
  20. There was a thread a while back where someone peeled open the reflector on the trunk of a 1st gen and installed strips of LEDs to act as running brake and turn signals. I have been doing searches for 2 days and can not find it. I really do not like having just one light on the back of the bike at night. I have about 6 feet of the red LED strips left over from a different non bike project that I can now use for this project. I will be creating a progress thread of the illumination of my Venture with links to products used and any special procedures or techniques that I had to use. I will be skirting the edges of the law and adding as much light as I can figure out how to, with out getting in legal trouble. A lot of what I intend to do is scattered about on VR.org and will end up getting compiled here, I also have a few new ideas . The steps will be completed in order of importance with safety first, functionality second and cosmetics last.
  21. very light vibration at 70 and up is this something to be concerned about?
  22. I bought visors for each of the lights on my '03 RSMV then put the visors on the front passing lamps and turn signals. I postponed the Headlight visor until today since I would need to split the fairing, but decided to put the rear turn signal and HD license plate light visors on last night. Someone had been there before me on the turn signals added LED light rings inside, but they do not work. Anyway, as part of their operation they had stripped the heads on the screws so I had purchased replacements. I drilled out the heads and the lens came off, no sweat on the left side. The housing was filled with water and the lower screw was rusty. When I put the vice grips on the screws to back them out the top removed easily, but the lower snapped right off! Has anyone experienced this or do you have any suggestions how to get this fairly tiny screw out now? :confused24:I hate to have to replace the entire assembly... Now after days and days of rain, the sun is shining and I am sitting here looking at that stinking broken off screw. Crap!
  23. Hello everyone. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF THE DIAMOND R LIGHTBAR IS ANY BETTER THAN THE SIGNALDYNAMICS LIGHTBAR.I KNW THAT THE S.D. BAR HAS THREE BULBS LIT UP FOR RUNNING LIGHTS AND THEN THE REST LIGHT UP WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DIAMOND R. CAN THEY BE USED AS TURN SIGNALS AS WELL THANKS FOR ANY INFOON THE SUBJECT MARK:big-grin-emoticon:
  24. Ive read through similar threads and have tried the solution's offered but my problem persists. a. If I downshift, the shifter will occasionally stick, it wont pop back up. b. Although less frequent, I also have a hard time getting it into neutral c. Even less frequently, I have a tough time just shifting through the gears. I am running Amsoil 20/50, Im on 200 miles with MotorKote added. I made sure all the ball joints for the linkage were tight, clean and lubricated. (b) and © I can deal with as eventually I get my way. (a) is a problem. I can roll up to a light in 3rd, drop it to 2nd, shifter hangs. Now Im at a light unable to get moving in 1st. Any ideas?
  25. I know the fuel sender unit is a common problem and I have read through many of the threads that discuss it but I have yet to see this particular question answered. I also read through the service manual and owner's manual and I did not see anything that discussed that particular behavior (although it is likely that I missed it somewhere)... Does your low fuel light come on with the check engine light when you turn the key to the ON position (then go off after the 2 seconds or whatever it is)? I have seen my low fuel light come on and the trip meter switch to the "F trip" meter but it has been a while since I have seen that. Since the last time I have seen it I have had to switch to reserve with no light or f trip meter - but it is inconclusive whether the thing works or not. If it is supposed to come on when the key is turned to the ON position, then I know there is a problem with my unit. EDIT: Pg 8-37 of the owner's manual goes through the diagnostic and it does not say at any point, turn the key ON and see if the dumb thing lights up, so I am inclined to think that it doesn't, but it would be helpful if someone could tell me for sure. Thanks.
