Father Passed.

My thoughts to you and your family. -
About 300/month total for my truck and the wifes car over the winter. My truck doesn't move much in the summer once riding season in WI starts. I'd venture to guess it drops about $100 the months of May, June, July, August and Sept. If I'm lucky April and October look better too!!

Thanks for the input guys. I think the tandem is the way to go. The need for an enclosed trailer isn't there due to the unit being parked inside when not in use. It'll be used only during fire department emergencies so it will be parked in the station when on in use. I felt like a single axle was marginal so I'm not displeased in having to move up to a tandem. Makes perfectly good sense to me.

Prayer Request
lshafer replied to Phoneman1981's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
It's difficult to lose a parent. I lost my dad about 7 years ago. Be thankful for the time you've had with him and just know he's probably had a wonderful life and that you mean the world to him. My thoughts are with you and your family. -
I hope there are some trailer experts out there. I don't profess to be any such thing. I need to get a trailer to haul a Polaris Ranger 6X6 that will weigh in at about 2500lbs. What are some thoughts on the proper tailer. Would a single axle with a 2990lb GVWR and a 3500lb axle work for this or should I move up to a tandem axle? Application: Polaris Ranger 6x6 weighing 1410lbs with a 'slide-in' firefighting unit weighing 935lbs, wet. Total combined weight of unit - 2345lbs. Thoughts please...

Is there any adjustment left to right or up and down with this set up. I know you can turn the face to make it vertical with the unit but what about adjusting the overall position?

Does anyone have some pictures of the Barons tachometer mounted on the master cylinder cover of their bike? I'm going to be purchasing a tach and wanted to see what this set up looks like prior to purchasing. Also, what are you thoughts on it? Does it do everything you want it to? Does it look nice? Was the installation easy? Thoughts please? Thanks, Les

Maybe your gas cap wasn't on tight. I've had that happen before and when I stopped to fill up I obviously tighter the cap and bam, lights out!! Just a thought.

Been using Forumrunner for about 3 months. Like it. It's pretty handy when there no computer in sight. I look forward to using it during the riding months when I'm out and about and should be able to post directly with any interesting happenings.

I'd have to change the stator if I want to add LEDs, correct? I'd like to put LEDs on it but I'm not good with electrical stuff.

This is one I've been thinking pretty seriously about but am a bit worried about the noise from the motor. I sometimes already feel like the engine is reving too hard and this would only make it worse. (I know, I know - you can't hurt it but it's just a noise thing for me!!) I wonder if changing the rear gear and installing a tach would make me feel better? Are there any thoughts out there for a good tachometer for the RSTD. I like the looks of the analog vs digital but ultimatley functionality is the key. Thoughts please...

It's a bit early in Wisconsin to be thinking about getting back out on the bike, but here I am trying to figure out what I can do to it, for it and with it. My question is this... What is the next best addition (or two ) I can make to my bike in the way of both performance and also safety chrome. Below is what I've done so far: Performance - K&N filters Road King exhaust (completely open) Re-jetted with larger jets and carbs balanced Elite 3 tires front and back Rick Butler Seat Mod Safety Chrome - Fender Chrome Saddle bag rails Saddle bag trim (top of bag) Passing lights Flanders bars Kuryakyn ISO grips Kuryakyn highway pegs I'm looking for the NEXT BIG THING. I love working on the bike and making it more interesting and fun and of course, my own. Any ideas would be great and pictures of your mods would be wonderful. Let's get those ideas out there and keep 'em coming. It's time we all start thinking about spending some money!!!

I'll be sending my seats off to Rick Butler for the mod, fixing a wiring issue in my passing lamps, re-jetting, and making a list of more stuff to buy. Suggestions are welcome!!

It's a long ways off but I'd like to attend. Need to get to some event sooner or later and this one is only about 3 hours away. It'll give me a chance to see and learn. Who knows what I'll need to do to my ride by then.

Now, now. I'll tell you right now they are beautiful trucks. We get nothing but compliments on them. We've had people from all over the state and even across the country come look at them. We're just trying to show some pride. They are our school colors. It's nice to have something different than plain old red.

As a fellow firefighter I too am jealous as almighty $@ll. Ive wanted to do that to mine for a long time but it's difficult to find the right stuff. Our fire trucks are black and orange so I could make my midnight really neat when compared to our trucks. I love your bike and it's great to see a fire edition Royal Star. Awesome !!

I took the week off to ride around. It's been beautiful in WI this week and I've put about 1000 miles on the bike just putzing around. No serious rides, just here and there with no real purpose. It's been fun. Anyway, my travels today took me to my local dealer. My sales guy was interested in taking a look at the mods to my bike (flanders bars, Road King exhaust being the main ones he was interested in). Well, I was getting ready to leave and backed out of the stall and noticed a wet spot where I'd been parked. I said, "well at least I'm in the right place for a leak to start!!!" So, they pulled the bike into the shop and took a peek. The tech looked it over and said it was coming from the overflow hose on the gas tank. That has never happened before and I've got just over 10,000 miles on the bike and have been in the exact same situation many times before - i.e. warm day with a half tank of fuel. That leads me to two questions which I was hoping to get some thoughts on. First, as long as I've owned the bike I've never had a leak from that hose. Why now? I could completely understand if I over filled the tank but that wasn't the case with only a half a tank. Second and more importantly, the liquid that was coming out of the hose smelled like gas but had the consistency of oil. Any ideas? I asked the tech about it and he said if I'd never experienced a leak before from that hose, who knows what was in it when the fuel started coming out. Huh!!! That didn't make any sense to me at all so I thought I'd better ask all you experts. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank, Les

I read on this forum one time that a tire you can't hold your hand on due to heat is a problem and shouldn't be ridden on. Now, I be darned if I can find that post but I've often thought about it while riding and have actually stopped to check quick to see how my tire was. I have E3's with about 4000 miles on them. I always run with 40 in the rear and have never had an issue with 'to hot to touch' tires. I can hold my ungloved hand on it until the cows come home. Maybe someone else has an idea or happen to read the post I'm referring to. I'll certainly keep an eye on this post because "inquiring minds want to know"!!!

K&N air filters
lshafer replied to jrsain's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have them in my 06 RSTD and didn't have to replace the covers. They fit just fine. I can't say there's any HUGE benefit though. -
bkuhr, I think you hit it. My lamps are 35 watt. I guess I must have a problem somewhere. Not sure where though. I'll mess around with it some more this weekend. Bummer. But hey, at least they look really nice on the bike!!!

I've added passing lamps to my 06 RSTD and I'm having some trouble. I set up an in-line fuse on the circuit and connected it to the low beams. The whole thing is on a switch. I thought I read to that they use a 7.5 amp fuse. That's what I tied and it blew instantly. So, before I go messing around I thought I'd ask the experts. What size fuse should I be using on these passing lights. They're Yamaha OEM passing lights. Sugguestions would be quite helpful. Thanks all!!

About $210/year for full coverage through American Family. I'm shopping right now for all my insurance and the first quote I got back was from United Fire and Casualty was $227 for the bike. 2006 RSTD.
