  1. Hey Tom, I'll be passing through Austin in about 6 weeks and would like to get these installed on my Wing. How long did the work take? How much did they charge for the installation?
  2. It no longer surprises me that a small group of citizens will subvert and distort the intentions of our founding fathers regarding freedom of speech. When I was a kid, merely spitting towards the flag was unheard of. Now, burning and stomping this symbol of our nation is simply considered freedom of speech. I had never heard of this group before I read this thread yesterday. As soon as I read the first few posts, I went to the website, joined, purchased a few items, and intend to participate whenever possible. Having served in the Armed Services during wartime (USN '73-77), I have real respect for our brothers and sisters that make this commitment to our country. It will be my pleasure to show respect for these fallen soldiers and shield their friends and families when necessary. My Dad, also a USN vet (Korean conflict), will be 80 this year. I will be asking him to request PGR attendance when it is time for his final mission. I've already asked my wife to make sure that happens when it is my turn...
  3. I had a '93 Buick Riviera with the 3800 engine some years back. It was a smooth running car and never had a minutes' trouble with it. Only thing I ever had to replace on that car was the consumables (tires, wipers, brakes, etc.). I really liked the body style and all the toys, but the wife didn't (I gave her the car when I bought a 3/4 ton truck to pull the boat). If I remember correctly, it got around 23 MPG in town and 28 on the highway. Sure am glad I live in a place where salt doesn't grow on the roads...
  4. My commute to work is about 7 miles and usually takes 15 or 20 minutes depending on traffic. This morning was no exception. However, when I left work this evening, it was 67 miles and took an hour and a half. Just can't figure it out... http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/Sunset030111.jpg Gotta love a nice sunset!
  5. I use the Purolator PL10193 Pure One filter from Amazon. Only $5 bucks and it works great. I did a lot of research on oil filters before choosing this one. It is one of the best filters available and is readily available. 6. Very nice! Brought back some memories...although I went through SD about a decade after this (July '73) it sure doesn't look like much changed during that time.
  7. I don't have any pics...:bawling:Wish I did! But, years ago I had a blonde cocker spaniel that LOVED going out for a ride. I took a small piece of carpet and cut the corners off of one end so that it looked kind of like a 'home plate'. I would turn it upside down (soft fibers next to the tank, burlap facing up) and wedge the triangle under my crotch. The carpet protected the tank and the burlap gave her stable footing. Once I got situated, I would pat my left leg and up she would come. I now realize it probably wasn't the safest thing in the world to do. She was untethered and unprotected (just like me). But, we never had a mishap. She certainly was an attention getter and I loved having her along. She's been gone for many years now and I've never tried this with any of my pets since. Mostly because I couldn't trust them to sit still. But, Jo (short for Chesai O'Josan - Japanese for pretty girl) would sit still and lean into the curves just like I did. Jeez, I'm getting choked up here. Sure do miss her.
  8. I've never used Venom tires, but if I received a tire of ANY BRAND looking like that, I would not install it.
  9. Yeah, me too! Today it barely got up to 60 and it's overcast with sprinkles...
  10. I collect fountain pens, rock and mineral samples, and.... wait for it... BUGS! (in my teeth)
  11. Eck, to me, that's kinda the whole point. A balanced tire is a balanced tire. And if I can get the tire balanced without having to go to the m/c shop and without having them ugly weights spoiling the look of the wheel, then I say why not? If anyone is expecting to feel a huge difference between running beads and running lead weights, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. Unless of course your tires are already out of balance to the point it's noticeable. There is a downside. You won't be able to use fix-a-flat or anything like it if you get a nail in the tire. The goo would prevent the beads from doing their job. I'd never use that stuff myself because it ruins the tire in my opinion. You can't ever put a patch on the inside again. It just won't stick. scarylarry raised a good point and it was the one that convinced me to give the beads a try. I also saw a lot of negative posts regarding beads. But, then I realized that all the negatives were from people who'd never tried them. I never saw a negative post from someone who had used them.
  12. Well, I suppose you could...but, why? No, I pulled them old ugly things off right away. Now, it's much easier to clean and shine the wheel and they look gooder too! Haven't had a minutes trouble with 'em. I've had the old girl up to 90 several times and didn't feel the slightest bit of wobble or bounce.
  13. What a coincidence... I was just looking at an ad on WingStuff.com for a new lithium battery made for motorcycles. It's expensive as heck but (according to them) No more dead batteries. Holds charge for one year without maintenance. Ultra lightweight, one fifth the weight of lead acid motorcycle batteries Significantly outlast any traditional lead acid battery's Military grade Carbon Fiber Composite Case Faster Cranking for better starts Super-Fast recharge rate SAFE.. No explosive gasses during charge, No Lead, No Acid!! Environmentally friendly, just discharge and dispose Japanese engineering and components are of the highest technology and quality
  14. Yep, me too. At least it's working so far. No telling how long it will last. After all, there's no warranty!
  15. It's funny...I saw this vid yesterday and while I was out riding today (in a T-shirt, 80 degrees and sunny) I decided to stop in the Victory dealership to take a look at this 'ugly' bike. It turns out, the guy is local here in Tucson. He had called the dealership before going on his ill-fated ride up Mount Lemon to tell them he had a new toy (the helmet cam) and that he would stop by on the way back and show them. I like to ride Mount Lemon myself, but I go up there when it's 105 in the shade cuz it'll be 30 degrees cooler up there. By the way, I agree that the Vision is ugly. But I really liked the Cross Country. I thought the tranny was a little clunky. It had a very loud 'thunk' every gear change up or down. If that happened on my Venture, I'd pull over to see what was broke. It did have a very comfortable riding position though with my feet well forward. It also has a very wide power band. Cruising along at 50 in 4th gear, I was barely turning 2K rpms (on my Venture, I'm turning almost 3K in top gear at that speed). But, if I gave the throttle a twist, it would grunt and go! Engine seemed quite powerful and more than adequate for a bike that weighs the same as the Venture but with >500cc's of additional displacement. Very low seat height at just over 26" allowed me to flat foot at stops...with my knees bent! Here's the weird part...it has a painted metal gas tank that sits over the engine! What a concept! ;-) It was a fun ride and a great day for riding. I feel kinda bad for all you poor saps that live in the frozen north...
  16. Thanks for the link! I've been wanting to add these to my truck, but it would cost a mint @ 3-4 oz. per tire.
  17. Yay! Mine finally got here today! Let's see, Dec 31 'till Feb 11...just 42 days. Gotta love our gov't. They're doing everything they can think of to protect us. Problem is, the only thing they can think of is to close the barn door after the cows already left. Somebody tries to smuggle liquid explosives on board, so now water has to be bought at the airport and everyone has to buy tiny little bottles of shampoo. Then somebody lights a firecracker in their shoe, so now we have to take our shoes off in front of God and everybody. Then somebody smuggles a makeshift bomb in their underwear, and now we have to let them take naked pictures of our Mom's and wives and daughters or get felt up. I'm scared to death somebody is gonna shove a stick of dynamite up their butt! When that happens, I ain't flyin' no more. I don't care if I have to go get a new job!
  18. That's what I'm running in mine. Works great!
  19. Thanks, Don. That's a good point. I think the PO put those on mostly for shows. I never really figured on driving around like that anyway. [Flashback to Robert Redford and Electric Horseman]
  20. I've still got it. I want to keep it, but the wife says I want to sell it. It's funny...I pulled into a local Honda dealership last weekend hoping for an offer of a test ride (no luck there). Right behind me was a fella on an '06 Wing. He walks right up and says "Wow, there's a million of them (pointing at his bike) but you don't see one of these very often!" I like driving the extraordinary, it's one of the reasons I got the Venture in the first place. But, for a number of reasons, I decided that it just wouldn't work for me long term. When I came to that realization, I began the process of looking for another bike. There are lots of touring bikes around but I was able to quickly narrow it down to the Wing or a Harley. In the Harley lineup, I really only liked the looks of the Road Glide and the Electra Glide. Both models have pros and cons, but ultimately I chose the Road Glide based on the frame mounted fairing. So, now it was a competition between the Glide and the Wing. Long story short (or at least not as long...) I gave the Glide points for style and performance upgrade-ability but in every other category, (stock performance, handling, comfort, bells and whistles, reliability, cargo capacity, etc.) the Wing won hands down. Another amusing anecdote: While I was still looking at Road Glides, I spotted different ads where a Glide owners was selling a bike but was willing to trade for a Wing. That pretty much cinched it for me. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/CockpitAllLitUp.jpg
  21. Thanks, Raider. It's an '01. I could've gotten a newer one for the same money, but as others have noted, this one's already been decorated to the 9's. Lotsa extra chrome bits including the wheels. Upgraded speakers and a 240 watt amp. Heated leather seat. The seller said there are over 1000 led's to light the bike up for shows (He has a table full of trophies he won with this bike). But, the big decider for me was that it was recently upgraded with the complete Traxxion Dynamics suspension system front and rear with 'All Balls' steering head bearing kit and 5-piece fork brace. I can't wait to get in some twisties to check it out!
