Well, I guess I went and done it...

Thanks for the heads up, Tom. I reckon I'll have to reign them in a little anyway as my laigs just ain't that long...! Really looking forward to learning about leaning on the wing. -
I just bought my Venture Royale last August and even though I really enjoy the bike, I wanted more. So, I watched and watched and looked at literally hundreds of ads on eBay and Craigslist and elsewhere and finally found the right one. Naturally, it's on the other side of the country and will take about 3 weeks to get here, but I'm still pumped. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/FullSideView-Outside.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/IMG_0093-1.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/VeryNiceRearShot-1.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/RingofFireRadiator.jpg

Well, that being the case, I reckon I just keep my eye peeled for a trunk from the right vintage. In fact, I may be able to just repair mine. It got a pretty deep gouge or two and the aluminum trim ring got rashed. But, for what these sellers are asking for old beat up boxes, I can probably get by with what I got. Worst of it is...I JUST installed the new passenger seat back and it's ruined. I could just kick myself! Not asking for any volunteers to assist mind you...

Installed my new custom seat and went out for a ride. Life is good! Then I went over a rough spot in the road and all of a sudden a loud noise and when I look in my rear view mirror....there's my trunk. Bouncing down the road like a freaking basketball! I know I had it latched good, but apparently I forgot to set the lock to 'locked'. Argh! So, does anybody know if MKII trunks are compatible with MKI bikes? There's one on eBay that's the right color, but it's an '87 and mines an '83. They look the same but just wanna make sure.

Gary, I'm intrigued but curious. I also ride a 1st gen bike and always interested in improving on what is already fantastic performance. What advantage would you gain with this enhancement? Better air flow? If so, won't that also require adjustments to your carb air/fuel mix and possibly modification of the exhaust system? Just wonderin'... -
I've never had a bike with heel/toe shift, but I'm looking forward to the time when I get one. Mostly I drive with my toe under the shifter unless I'm down-shifting. The problem comes when I take a left turn too sharply. I've had several close calls when the tip of my boot dragged pavement...that's an unpleasant feeling!

Ordered mine on Dec. 31...yeah, I'm still waiting too.

Oh it is definitely home made. I haven't yet seen it in person. I'll be doing that later today. But, the guy selling it was quick to point out that it was hand made by a friend of his that fabricates ultra-lite planes. He says it's very well built. It has leaf springs and shock absorbers (to keep the sudz down ). Here's a pic of the insides. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20trailer%20hitch/beertraileropen.jpg

Goose, that sounds like a helluva an idea! Thanks!

Hi Folks, I'm considering buying a trailer to pull behind my scoot. I found one that is kinda cool. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20trailer%20hitch/beertrailer.jpg But, it's got (what I consider to be) an odd sorta hitch. Does anybody know what this is called and more importantly where do I find the mating half? http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20trailer%20hitch/hitch.jpg

Gary gets the prize! I had the instrument panel covered with a rag cuz the handlebars are draped over it. I went and checked and sure enough, I get a battery warning. Thanks Gary! The other device...I'm still not sure about. I suppose it could be a capacitor, but it's got a wire coming out of either end. Every capacitor I've ever seen has both wires coming out of the same end. Of course most capacitors I've seen were made to fit on a PCB board. But, this looks suspiciously like a resistor. Hmmm, just don't make no sense....

Thanks, George. This is what Amalia looks like today. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/Amalia01152011.jpg I'm doing a little planned maintenance. Replace fuse box, new air horn (man is that thing LOUD!), rewiring auxiliary lighting, repack steering bearings, new auxiliary power point for GPS, new spin-on oil filter adapter. Not sure when I'll be finished, but doubt it will be by next weekend. Sucks too! Didn't expect such nice riding weather in the middle of January, dang it! But, I'm planning long term for a 3-4K mile trip in April so I gotta get all this stuff done. Also, been planning a trip up to Phoenix for a couple of weeks now. There's a fella about to deploy to Iraq (civilian corps) that is trying to unload a pretty blue Wing. He lives out Sunrise way. So, once I get Amalia running again, I'll send ya a private message via the board and we'll meet up. Steve

I'm trying to figure out what everything is before replacing my fuse box (I ordered the kit SkyDoc sells in classifieds). I've got a couple of items that don't make sense to me and maybe you can help. First off, there's a device that's attached to both terminals. I suspect it might be a noise reducer or some such, but it would be nice if someone knows for sure. The other is a blue wire that terminates on the Batt. + and then is connected to a White/Red wire in the main harness behind (or in front of) the battery. I disconnected it from the battery and everything 'seems' to work OK. Again, I'd appreciate any input here... http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/fusepanel.jpg

Hey Bluemax, I hail from Tucson. Some nice riding trails down here too. Love that blue color on your Star! Not retired yet, but looking forward to it someday (if the politicians don't screw it up!). So, mostly a weekend/evening rider. But, if you get a chance to swing by, give me a holler and we'll burn down a highway or two.

It's going to be clear, sunny and in the 70's for the next week or so here in southern Arizona. Anybody wanna go for a ride?

I just hate it when I have parts left over! So, I just finished repacking the steering head bearings and I'm putting everything back together and I find this 'extra' part. It's a rubber washer (of sorts) with such an odd configuration, you'd think it would be easy to figure where it belongs. I've gone through the manual and every other sort of resource I could find, but I still don't know where to put it. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/rubberwasher.jpg The inside diameter of the washer is the same as the outside diameter of the ring nut pictured here. But, I can't see any purpose for it when installed that way. The only other possibility I can come up with is that it goes under the bearing cover on top of the upper bearing. If that's the case, I'd like to get confirmation before I button everything up. P.S. '83 Royale (if that makes any difference)

I used some silicone tape similar to this to fix/repair the rubber holders for all the relays behind the headlight in my first gen MKI. Worked like a champ. Not sure I'd want to trust it for holding a leaking radiator hose though...
