That sure looks like a FAST color! I hope you enjoy it!

I've got braided leather covers on the levers on my Wing, but there's no danglies on it. I like the feel of the leather especially when temps are extreme!

Deer must be some darn stupid animals. Especially Texas deer! I was on my way back from a visit back east and riding down a wonderful twisty hilly state hwy west of Austin. I didn't see another vehicle the entire 30 miles and the highway was in terrific condition. I was having a great time! However, it was almost sundown when I spotted a doe on the side of the road ahead. I slowed and honked my horn and the deer looks up and immediately crosses the road in front of me. This happened 4 more times in the next few miles and each time the deer would cross the road rather than turn tail and run away from the road. I reached the Interstate just as the sun was setting and found evidence of several deer that had not been so fortunate. Dang stupid deer!

Just completed my LD challenge. Drove 1138 miles in about 20 hours. Don't know if I'll ever try that again! Strong cross winds most all the way across Texas. I was so tired by the end, I think I was driving with nothing more than muscle memory. Now, I just got to put it all to paper and get it submitted.

Maybe he had a sudden brain fart and thought he was in Japan...?

Life is good, just thought I'd share ---

Amen to that, brother! I read somewhere the Honda dealer charges 4 hours labor to change the air filter. First time I took the shelter apart, I installed a K&N filter. It gets better air flow and won't need cleaning for 50K miles. I can live with that... -
You didn't say whether it is an SE or an Aspencade. KBB shows retail on the better model (Special Edition) in retail condition (average mileage with no mechanical or cosmetic issues) to be $6995 and $6665 for the Aspencade. The low mileage is a plus, but I don't think it's worth $1000. It also means the bike spent a lot of time just sitting. That can mean atrophy from dry rot (even if it's sitting in a garage). You should also bear in mind that this is a weakened economy. Things are not bringing top dollar and therefor is a buyers market. There's 3 Wings for sale on eBay (97, 98, 99 all with more miles than this'n) and the sellers have posted ~$8000 buy it now prices...but, no one is biting. If you look at completed auctions, you'll see some going for as little as $6000 up to $9500. I'm not trying to poopoo the bike. I'm the sort that is willing to pay more for a used vehicle if it is a cream puff. (You should see my '83 Venture Royale!) But my Wing is my ride of choice. It was also a cream puff AND it had lot of upgrades and add-ons that made it worth well more than book price. Tip: If you really wanna pay $7000 for this bike, offer him $6000 and then bargain up to $7000.

It's so obvious...it's a TOILET PAPER DISPENSER! :rotf:

I bought a V-stream special edition Quantum shortly after buying my Wing. I did a lot of research and decided on this one for the aerodynamic shape, constructed of 6mm polycarbonate (practically indestructible), 3 year guarantee against breakage, comes with a built in vent and as a bonus...it looks cool because of its distinctive shape. Its shape helps to direct airflow to the sides rather than over the top. And the additional thickness gives it superb rigidity at highway speeds where thinner shields have a tendency to flex with wind gusts. The polycarbonate is highly scratch resistant...much more so than acrylic. I've been very satisfied with the performance of this shield. Like others, I keep it at its highest setting only when riding the slab and the lowest setting at all other times. I'm 5'10" and can just see over the top at the highest setting and wind buffeting has never been a problem. At nearly $400 retail, it's on the high end of the spectrum price wise, but you can find deals on them (only paid $280 for mine). There is also a thinner 4mm version available for a lower price. For me, having 50% more material between me and a rock or bird was worth the additional cost.

I know this thread is a comparison of RSV and Wing...I've never straddled an RSV, I'm sorry but I think the dash on that thing is just butt ugly. I've talked to RSV owners that LOVE it. I guess that's why they make different styles of bikes. I bought (and still own) a practically new '83 Venture Royale. It had been part of a motorcycle collection and up until about a year ago, it had less than 100 miles on it. It now has just over 5K. It's a good looking, great riding, comfortable, sporty tourer with tons of style. And because it doesn't look like anything else on the road, it gets lots of looks. Unfortunately, my wife sat on it one time and because of the way the seat is shaped, it caused her some hip pain. She promised "I'll never get on it again" So, what could I do? I had to find a bike with a more comfortable pillion seat. After much looking and comparing, I finally narrowed it down to either an HD Road Glide Ultra or a Wing. The big advantage to the HD was the fact that the engine was almost indefinitely upgradeable. ECU's, top end, bottom end, tranny, you name it and there's an upgrade. It finally dawned on me the reason why such upgrades were not commonly available for the Wing...maybe it didn't need them. There were two things that finally helped me to make my decision in favor of the Wing. After viewing literally hundreds of ads for both bikes, I noticed that a LOT of Wings were offered for sale with more than 100K miles yet I seldom saw an HD with more than 50K. So, either the owners loved 'em too much to sell or they spent more time posing with their bike for pics than riding or maybe they just couldn't go that far. Finally, one particular day, I was looking at Road Glide ads and saw 2 separate ads with a common theme. "Road Glide for sale --- or will trade for GoldWing". After I stopped laughing, I realized my comparison search was over. I opted for a well kept, highly customized 2001 Wing. I couldn't be more pleased. I realize it's a little unfair to compare an '83 1200 to an '01 1800. I still love my Venture. I think it has better style than the Wing hands down. But, when it's time to ride, I always choose the Wing. It's lower center of gravity makes it much more maneuverable. The 1832 cc engine is QUICK. And it's got goodies that came stock that I couldn't ever add to the Venture. I suppose I'll have to sell the Venture. I hate to, but I hate to see it just sitting there too. I'm sure it will make a nice bike for someone.

These were exactly correct for my town as well. Would be nice if it were somehow plugged in to Google maps....

Mission Complete I must say, I was very impressed with the logistical planning. Everything went very smoothly and that's saying something with somewhere near 50 bikes involved. The event included a parade through the neighborhood of the honoree. Many of the residents were out on the street to watch the parade. Some were taking pictures or movies, some held their hands over their hearts or saluted, some just smiled and mouthed 'Thank You'. It was very gratifying. Each rider was provided a standard sized US flag with an 8' staff. We were arranged to flank the entrance to the hall where the memorial ceremony was to be held. It was awe inspiring to see all those flags snapping in the brisk wind. As the attendees filed in, some took the opportunity to shake hands or pat us on the shoulder and say "Thank You". Lots of people say they are patriotic. It seems to me that this is a group that shows their patriotism with actions, not just words. These folks spend their time and money to honor someone they don't know for no reason other than that person served our country in the armed forces. I felt right at home with these people and look forward to continuing my association with them.

Going on my first PGR mission tomorrow morning for a US Navy and long time PGR veteran. I thank the forum members that first made me aware of this group and hope to be a worthy addition to this honorable endeavor.

I'm a new PGR member and have not yet been on a mission, but will be proud to serve.

Holy Cow! Even if you're talking Canadian bucks, that's HUGE! I've got an '83 Venture and an '01 Goldwing with full comp/collision insurance and it's less than $400 for both for a full year...

Sorry Guys...I should have updated my profile. It's an '01 Wing. It's the upper trunk. Although I think the PO upgraded the lighting assemblies to the newer '06 and above version. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/IMG_0093.jpg At any rate, the dremel tool idea sounds the most promising. But, I still got a bad feeling I'm gonna mess up some plastic. As I continue to think through this problem, it occurs to me that once the nut (and likely part of the stud) are removed, I'll probably have to replace the entire assembly. Either that or live with the knowledge that it is only held on by 2 nuts... That being the case, I could cut through from the outside until I can get a grip on the stud from the other end. Hate to think how much that assembly will cost though...

I need to replace a brake light in the left trunk assembly. I look up in the service manual how to do the job...3 nuts and the assembly falls out, right? WRONG! The nut in the middle just spins round and round like it wants to be a ballerina or something. I guess the stud broke loose from its' base. I've thought about it and thought about it and can't come up with any ideas that don't involve damaging plastic in some way. Anyone have an idea?
