  1. Hey guys . time has come for me to purchase a rear tire. I found the brand that i would like to try, my question is about reading tire sizes. I would liek to fit a taller tire to try and get more clearance on my 96. Leveling links wont work for my year RS. Manual says 150-90/15 as the size for the rear Is there any size that would be a taller tire. Also IS it possible to run a 140/90-15 . This would give better turnout but will it be safe on the rim and since the second number is an aspect ration of the first will a 140-90/15 be a shorter tire. I wish i could stand 4 tires up to each other to see the difference. has anyone tried a size other than whats listed by the manufacturer. As far as measuring aspect ratio 150x.9= 135 mm high which converted to inches is roughly 5.31" so thats 20 inch wheel 140x.9= 126 mm 4.96" so thats 20 inch wheel give or take 1/2 an inch
  2. There was some discussion in another thread about making the Goldwing more comfortable from a wind buffeting standpoint and I thought it would be beneficial to break it out into dedicated thread. It was suggested to change the windshield to a taller and wider windshield like the F4 Customs +4 (4 inches taller than stock) and to also install air wings under the mirrors. I've looked at the F4 web site and there are conflicting statements on that site regarding maintaining adjustability with the taller and wider shield. Does anyone know if there is any adjustability with the +4 shield. It probably doesn't matter to me because I would be looking through it anyway. Another shield option I am considering is the Clearview shield. The F4 shield is nearly $400. Clearview offers shields that are 3 inches wider and up to 5 inches taller and they state that the adjustability is maintained. They are priced at about $220. Would they work as well as the F4+4? Any other suggestions? Dennis
  3. Tried on a Gold Wing the other day and my rider noticed that the backrest is significantly taller than the one on our 2009 Venture. Found a "custom" seat on the Star accessories site that says it's 3 inches taller than stock (link below). Does anyone have one of these? Does the rider notice a significant difference in the height? And finally, is swapping out the OEM backrest beyond the abilities of a mere mortal (i.e. not a wrench)? Thanks http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/accessories/acscitemdetail/5/4/83/405/all/1/3297/0/detail.aspx
  4. We went for a ride this Sunday started out about 41 degrees @ 9:20 when we left, finally got to 61 degrees by the time we headed back towards home. We wound up riding over 500 miles got home at the last glimmer of sunlight. Was a good day could have used a Taller F4 windshield but it beat sitting here waiting to hear that I won. Just a few pics. http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63478&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63479&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63480&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63481&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63482&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63483&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63484&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63485&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63486&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63487&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63488&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63489&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63490&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63491&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63492&stc=1&d=1326774261 http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63469&stc=1&d=1326773001 http://http//www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63469&stc=1&d=1326773001http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63470&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63471&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63472&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63473&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63474&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63475&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63476&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63477&stc=1&d=1326773406 http://http//www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63469&stc=1&d=1326773001http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63470&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63471&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63472&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63473&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63474&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63475&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63476&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63477&stc=1&d=1326773406
  5. Hello Everyone: FYI, I just listed a 14" windshield and lower plastic pieces, that I resently took off of my 05 RSTD. It is less than one year old. I simply needed a bit taller windshield. I put on a 19.5 inch windshield. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks...
  6. So...I've added the Baron risers....seemed to make the ache in my shoulder blades a little better. I find that there is less of an ache when I extend my arms almost fully (not quite locked), than when I ride with arms bent (45 degrees). I do have a backrest that is quite comfortable (thanks DiamondR)! Shirt sleeves are about 37'ish... I'm thinking about removing the risers, and changing out the handlebars. I hear folks speak highly of the Flanders.....Any other suggestions? How does one figure out how much rise and "pull back" is needed on the bars to be comfortable? So I thought I would ask the TALLER "experts"! What say ye?
  7. I have seen the posts concerning the wind deflectors to keep the “breeze off the knees”. For whatever reason when my feet are on the floorboards this does not bother me. However, when I throw my feet op on my highway pegs I’ve created this wind tunnel which routes the wind straight up my legs and onto my upper body / face. At highway speeds it is pretty irritating for long stretches and I like to have my legs extended; I’m 6’5”. Will the deflectors reduce this wind as well? It seems as though they would not help this situation - but if you think they will work, though I’m not a big fan of the look, I’ll definitely try adding them. Second question: I am considering the taller – wider windshield because ..well I’m taller and wider. Has anyone had experience with these?
  8. Gonna take a camping trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive. Turns out the tent/chair/sleeping bag W/air mattress is taller than the mirrors can see over. has anyone seen a taller mirror (2" ought to do it). Or maybe tried stacking two of the OEM extensions on top of each other??? Was thinking of stacking the extensions, but don't know that the treads are the same.
  9. Found these at MC Sports for about $75.00 each. Smaller than 2 Liter Bottle of pop / soda and 1.0 Lb & 7 oz. This Model is good to 4c or 40f. If taller than six foot look for the XL. Best part is the zip together (Ensure you purchase a RIGHT Zip and the other is a LEFT Zip) Here are the Pics: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/2FEB09001.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/2FEB09004.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/2FEB09005.jpg
  10. Checking out the 09 VStar 1300 against 07 and in the specs they have a small error..........the bike has gotten quite a bit taller it seems........ 2009 VStar 1300 ....................... 2007 VStar 1300 http://www.starmotorcycles.com/assets/common/line.gifHeight 43.9 in...................................... 59.8 in http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelspeccompare/527/1542/0/compare.aspx
  11. Hi All...newbie here. Just purchased an '05 RSTD and, for the most part, I love it. However, I'm just a shade under six feet and I'm getting buffeted pretty bad from wind. Are there taller windshields available for the RSTD? P.S. Yes...I did use the search function, but did not find a satisfactory answer. Thanks in advance! Fortygeek
  12. I bought a tomtom one. I need to get a handle bar mount. There seems to be 2 different ones. One is a short mount that bacically aimes the gps unit straight toward you and a longer (taller mount) Which do you hace and wich works best. Thanks, Steve
  13. Has anyone tried a larger windscreen on the Venture? My wife complains about some wind buffeting at highway speeds. I feel nothing but she feels a back draft and head shake. I have seen the 1.75” taller screen and was wondering if anyone has tried it or is there another size that I’m not aware of. Thanks,
  14. So I snagged a used Corbin 1 piece seat on eBay (got a GREAT DEAL).. but it comes without backrests. Looking on Corbin's site, the backrests are like $250!! So I did some digging around, and I found this company that sells backrests that supposedly mount on the Corbin seats.. anyone heard of or had one of these? http://www.harrisonspecialtiesstore.com/servlet/the-27/Corbin-Seat-Drivers-Motorcycle/Detail This backrest is 1 inch taller and wider than the standard Corbin backrest.. very tempting for the $$ but thought it might be wise to check here first. Thanks! Doc
  15. Lots have spoken to the seat change-out issue... anyone done anything with the passengers backrest on the RSV? The wife wants something more like the 1st gen (which we just sold) or a Wing. Taller, more wrap around. Not seeing aftermarket customizations like this. Any ideas? bob
