3 in the front. 20 in the rear. The RSTD is just too squishy without some pressure in the rear shock. 20lbs firmed it up just right.

Too much whine:?
fortygeek replied to GOINtoHELL's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I know the chirpy sound from my '05 RSTD is at least that loud. If I go on a long ride (over 200mi) it just gets louder as the day goes on. Even with a quality full-face helmet that chirp is starting to drive me nuts, and after a 200+ mile ride last weekend I was ready to sell the damn thing. I know part of the reason the chirp is so loud is because the noise is reflected off the windscreen, but riding without a screen is not an option for me. My RSTD is a bird-magnet and I'm not willing to experience bird strikes at 75MPH. I'd just be trading one hurt for another ;-) I am the second owner and was unsure that I'd get an 'I' basket done under warranty, but my shop called Yamaha and it was quickly approved as a warranty repair. It's a one-time deal...they said if it gets worse after the repair...too bad. Fingers crossed...if this doesn't fix the chirp, I'll be looking at another cycle in the very near future. I love my RSTD, but I need something that isn't going to drive me insane after a day in the saddle. BTW...I asked for an 'I' basket by name and the guy at the front service desk seemed unsure of what I was asking for, but the techs at Yamaha (as well as the wrench guys in back) knew exactly what it was. My RSTD is in for it's 25K service, so they put the 'I' basked on order and told me it should be finished when I return from business travel next week. -
Heated gear -controller mounting?
fortygeek replied to supersail's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have Gerbings gear. Bought the clip-on holder for my controller and clip it onto the leg of my chaps. Easy to get to when you need to adjust the temp.- 13 replies

Guys...tried every product on the market to keep the face shield clear with minimal results. Got a Pinlock face shield for my HJC and have not had a problem since. Just my two cents (well, maybe three). Paul

Does anybody here have the Utopia back rest ?
fortygeek replied to Hummingbird's topic in Watering Hole
Have the Utopia on my 05 RSTD and the stock seat. Love it. -
Having read the article above, I agree that bigger caliber is better. The home weapon is a Glock .40 with Hornady hollowpoints. In the field, I carry the Ruger LCP in my jacket pocket or, when on foot, in my back pocket. I like the 'concealed' part of concealed weapon. I don't have a large frame, so the LCP is perfect. Better carrying small than not carrying at all. The man I get my guns from is a bigger boy. He can fit an XP40 in his pocket and have room to spare.

I just went from ME880's to Avon Venoms on my '05 RSTD, and it rides like a whole different machine now. What a difference. I used to fight this bike at slow speeds...went with the MT90 up front and slow speed steering is INCREDIBLE now. Just did 300 miles on them and they offer a quieter ride on the highway, too.

Taller windshields for RSTD
fortygeek replied to fortygeek's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thank you to all who contributed. Looking at the clearview replacement. Won't have it installed for a bit, as the daughter's tuition is coming due -
Hi All...newbie here. Just purchased an '05 RSTD and, for the most part, I love it. However, I'm just a shade under six feet and I'm getting buffeted pretty bad from wind. Are there taller windshields available for the RSTD? P.S. Yes...I did use the search function, but did not find a satisfactory answer. Thanks in advance! Fortygeek
