  1. I'm also looking to do some painting. Are there any recommended alternatives to Colorite that are less expensive? I'm looking for the rattle cans.
  2. Here is another option: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70026822/ I've ridden 3+ seasons with mine and aside from needing cleaning, it's still like new. It's big enough to cover both seats. I have the Mustang seat w/ driver backrest, so all I did was cut a slit for the backrest post to go through. Easy to put on & take off. Doesn't have any padding however, if that's what you're looking for.
  3. I went with the Yamaha passing lamps from my local dealer (I got him to include them when I bought the bike). I wasn't happy with their wiring, so I re-worked that and installed a relay at the same time. Was surprised that they didn't include a relay. Anyway, no issues with the lamps. ...just my 2 cents.
  4. Installing the Flanders bars has to be one of the best things I've done to my '05 RSTD. I used to get a pinch between the shoulder blades, but no more. I didn't have to change any cables or hydraulic lines to put these on. I think I did need to re-route some of them however. In any case, I didn't have to open the hydraulic lines. I experienced the same 2 issues discussed in the initial post. The clutch took care of itself after about 30 minutes of riding and several shifting cycles. Regarding the throttle sticking, in my case I actually had to slightly grind down the handle bar on the very end under the grip. Apparently the chrome was a little too heavy. Anyway, 2 seasons and everything is good.
  5. Is the leather black or brown?
  6. I bought a pair of Xelement boots from Leatherup.com 4 years ago. Very comfortable right out of the box, the soles don't slip, and inexpensive. http://www.leatherup.com/p/Mens-Motorcycle-Boots/Mens-Vigilant-Classic-Logger-Inside-Zipper-Boot/42041.html
  7. I took the test ride today. Although it was fun to try a new ride, I'll definitely be keeping my RSTD. Now waiting for the glasses...
  8. The ISO grips were the first mod I did after getting my RSTD. No end weights yet, but think I'll get them, if only for the looks. I don't notice any vibration without them. A trick I learned from another site (and have used on 3 different bikes) is to use aerosol hair spray to "glue" on the left grip. It works great, you have no time constraints when installing it, after a couple hours it's gotten tacky enough where you can't twist the grip (except maybe on an extremely hot day), and you can easily remove them if you wish without destroying them.
  9. Hi Mark, I've got the weights from my RSTD that I'm no longer in need of.
  10. Not in Janesville, but how about Faribault?
  11. Yes, lots of rain. From Wednesday afternoon until Thursday night I had just under 7" in my rain gauge. I also spent over 24 hours dealing with the water that flooded my basement. But the worst of it was just to the south of where I live. There are some corn fields where all you can see above the water are the tassels. I really feel for the farmers. It was setting up to be a bumper harvest. Several major roads closed, and lots of back roads under water. Just a big mess.
  12. Bring Up My Post Refreshes a post that hasn't had any activity.
  13. Here's my ebay trunk on a Wompus Rack on my 2005 RSTD. Trunk is ok for now, but I plan to keep my eyes open for something else (bigger and not so flimsy):
  14. I was just about to ask the same question. The other day we were riding around town for a while and I couldn't believe how much heat was being thrown off the engine. I couldn't hear the fan (I wear a 3/4 helmet), but the light didn't come on either. I stopped at my local dealer and asked this question of the service manager. While he didn't give a specific temp, he did say that they do have to get very hot, and that the fan is quiet and with a helmet on you may not even hear it. As long as the temp light didn't come on, he says I'm fine.
  15. I've been thinking about doing the same on my '05 RSTD. Looks like a Mutazu. Anyway, whose mounting bracket did you use?
  16. What Freebird said. I've got a 2005 RSTD that I bought last year with about 15k miles on it. It had the chirp as well. I've put about 4k miles on it since I got it and the chirp had either gotten worse or else I'd noticed it more. So, I took it to the dealer and they replaced the clutch basket with an "I" version and I'm quite satisfied with the results. I'd say the chirp has been reduced by at least 80% if not more. I still notice some in certain RPM ranges (not sure just where since I don't have a tach), like 30mph in 3rd & 40 in 4th. Most important to me is that since I do most of my riding at 60mph indicated, it's no longer audible to me at that speed. The dealer replaced the clutch basket for me at no charge, as I'm still under warranty. Just for kicks, I'm about due for an oil change so will try the Rotella T6 with some Motorkote to see if I can reduce/eliminate the little bit that remains.
  17. I've got a set that I haven't completed installing yet. Anyone have any tricks to drill through the cast floorboard brace without having to disassemble brake (right) and shifter(left)?? That's where I'm stuck right now. Thanks.
  18. My dealer had a spring special that included an oil & filter change, carb sync, changed the final drive fluid, bypassed the AIS, checked the air filters, checked the one plug they could get at, and a basic once-over of fluids & fittings. cost me $115 OTD. Not necessarily a bargain, but I was ok with it.
  19. You looking for just the plexiglass, or all the hardware too? I've got a stock shield (plexi only, including lowers) that I may be willing to part with.
  20. Bought mine (Stebel) from Bikerhiway.com. Bought the bracket from Carbon One. Install was easy and I wouldn't ride without it!
  21. Yes, they definitely are nice to have. I also purchased a set from JC Whitney. They're great quality and much cheaper than the name brands. However, after a couple months I did upgrade to the Kuryakyn offset longhorn duallys only because of their adjustability. I couldn't get the right position with the others.
  22. What he said. Over the winter I put these bars on my 2005 RSTD. Not extremely difficult, but I did have to re-route some of the electrical lines. Didn't have to change any of the brake/clutch lines. In any case, the change was worth it. The new position is much more comfortable.
  23. Thanks, I see the "G" as indicated. I was hoping to be able to tell which basket I have without teardown but I guess that isn't possible.
  24. How do you know which basket you have?
  25. No pics (bike is put up for the winter).... '05 RSTD Red/Black, Mustang seat w/ driver backrest, passing lamps, run/turn/brake controller, chrome fender tips, Stebel horn, Kury ISO grips, saddle bag chrome side rails, luggage rack, Clearview tinted windshield. Next up is Kury highway pegs, Flanders handlebars.
