I haven't even been able to get in a single ride yet this season. And, we're in a Winter Storm Warning with anywhere from 3" - 10"+ predicted by tomorrow morning... If we get all of it, April will go down as the 'snowiest' on record ever for us...

I accomplished something similar, only I have an RSTD that I wanted to mount a trunk on. What I found is, if you use stock hardware, they (trunk & backrest) are not readily interchangeable without a modification. At issue are the fender rails that the trunk bracket (RSV) and backrest (RSTD) attach to. On an RSTD, there are 2 'pins' (one on each side) that the backrest locking mechanism mate up with. These pins are welded onto the rails. This is the same location that the RSV trunk mount front holes would bolt to. In my case, since I wasn't really after the versatility of swapping between trunk & backrest, I opted to replace my RSTD fender rails with RSV rails, so everything bolted up just fine. I believe I read where others have cut off/removed the pins, tapped the holes and had threaded replacement pins machined, so they can interchange fairly easily. Good luck, I hope this helps. Glenn

I believe you're talking about Tom Mullica...

Just curious what prompted you to sell it, considering all the plans you had for it this year?

Here is a source I found: http://www.mountguys.com/ Good luck, Glenn

Irregardless... There is no such word; the correct usage is regardless...

I just saw this thread. Did you order extras, as I'd like one as well. Thanks.

I bought the Mustang set (with driver backrest) the 2nd day after I bought my 2005 RSTD. Made a world of difference over stock. This was before I knew about this site and the Rick Butler Mod, or I probably would have tried that first. I still would have had to purchase a driver backrest, because for me not having one is not an option. Still using my Mustang, and I still like it. I'm 6' and about 200lbs if that helps.

I'd be interested. I especially like the 3rd patch (the one with the Star emblem in the middle).

I'm not familiar with Fiamm, but it is not one-in-the-same with Stebel. Can't say if it's better or worse, just not the same. Good luck.

Hi Mark: I just pulled up a weather map and see you're right in the bullseye of a blizzard warning. Hope you get through it ok. I'm jealous that you've already been out on the bike. I don't expect to be able to get mine out for a couple of months yet. Take care, Glenn

Here's another source. Prices look good, not sure about shipping however. http://www.accessories4bikes.com/index.php

I believe I have a pair of driving light visors that I'm not using. I'll have to check for sure when I get home this evening. I'd be willing to let them go cheap. PM me if interested.

I agree with you that their current style doesn't do a thing for me, at pretty much any price. It'll be interesting to see what the new line-up looks like. As for Victory's, I actually see quite a few of them on the road (nothing like HD, however), but maybe that's because I'm pretty much in their backyard. A few co-workers have them and love them. And on any given weekend during the summer I'll see dozens of them riding the Great River Road (Wisconsin Hwy 35) along the Mississippi. They seem to travel in packs...

Interesting article about Polaris' attempt to revive Indian motorcycles. I wish them the best, as it's always unfortunate to see any manufacturer go under. I found it interesting that, according to definition, our RSV's & RSTD's don't fit in the 'heavyweight' motorcycle classification. I think my RSTD is plenty heavy... http://www.forbes.com/sites/joannmuller/2013/01/02/polaris-rides-atv-and-snowmobile-success-in-bid-to-revive-indian-motorcycles/ Glenn

Stock Pillow Seats?
TDbiker replied to Wayne McClain's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Here is the sheepskin I use and it works great. It's easily big enough to cover both rider & passenger seats. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70026822/- 22 replies

I was wondering if anyone here has these on their bike. They are Saddle Bag Trim Rails: http://www.starmotorcycles.com/assets/accessories/500/STR-1D672-50-00-500.jpg They fit the 2nd Gen Ventures and the '05 - '09 RSTD. I can't say that I've ever seen a bike (pictures or in person) that have them installed. I wonder if it's because of the price (list is $177.99), or if it's because to install them you have to drill into your saddlebag lids. My local Yammy dealer went to the creditors a few months ago and I picked these up at the creditor's auction yesterday for $28. There was lots of other stuff there, unfortunately not much for the Royal Stars. I did bid on a few other items but they went for more than I wanted to pay. I guess I'm looking to find out if I should install these, or if there have been issues with them. Thanks, Glenn

Wanting to put an RSV trunk on my RSTD
TDbiker replied to canadad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with almost everything stated here, with one exception. You will not be able to just drill a hole in your chrome fender rails because the front mount holes line up precisely where your removable backrest locking pins are. Some have cut off the pins, others (like myself) have replaced the RSTD fender rails with RSV rails, which are direct bolt-on replacements. In either case, you lose the ability to easily swap between trunk & backrest. Good luck. Glenn -
RSTD passenger backrest
TDbiker replied to slim_32's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
This is partially correct. In order to mount a Venture trunk mount on a RSTD, you will either need to replace the chrome side arms on the back fender with a pair from a Venture (exact bolt-on replacement), or you will have to remove the locking pins for your removable backrest on your RSTD rails. This is where the forward holes on the trunk mount need to attach. When I installed a Harley tour-pak on my 2005 RSTD, I used the Venture trunk mount and rails, both of which I got on ebay from Pinwall. I also mounted the grab rails. Good luck. Glenn -
RSTD Turn Signal Relay, Maybe...
TDbiker replied to Telos's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Keep in mind while troubleshooting this problem that a stock 2005 RSTD (and other years as well) do not have rear running lights. The rear turn signals are "dark" until you hit the turn signal switch. If your rear turn signals are also running lights, then there must be a run-turn-brake controller installed. If you have one of these, I'd check those connections. I've had a similar issue to the one you describe, and that's where I found my trouble. Good luck! Glenn -

Hi Mark, no worries as I have no plans to sell mine! It just seems to be the best fit for us. I think I still owe you a phone call; sorry, I've been distracted with some work and personal things lately. Take care, Glenn
